So… There’s my deluge of thoughts.
Totally agree with you. +1 from me
On a side note, comms are also limited more then originally thought. You get 2 for the week, different mission types don’t award additional comms.
Are you 100% positive about this? I know that different tiers don’t reward commendations but different mission types should reward comms
It’s funny that those champs they added give the same loot as normal mobs (but taking 10 times longer to kill) making most players ignore them until the normal mobs have been taken care off first…
it isnt about gameplay, its a LOOT game.
and it will die as one unless they can find a way to make the utmost challenging content also the most rewarding.
Exactly. I have one possible “solution”:
Mobs no longer give loot, you only get a chest with loot based on your contribution. The game’s philosophy has no “mob-tagging”, but in large World Events, it DOES have mob-tagging, the more you tag, the more loot you get, instead rewards AND loot should be based on doing the event, not based on how many mobs you tagged.
If you could get the maximum merits per week by running tier1 multiple times what’s the purpose of tier2 and tier3?
And whats the purpose of T1 and T2 now? If you cannot have full merits per week? Which everybody wants of course. So they only need to run T3 now.
Bigger guilds dont need T1 or T2, and small guilds are making mission aliances, and when they do, they dont need T1 and T2 too.
So T1 and T2 are useless. Even in that big guild missions forum everybody will write you: form alliance with big guild.
T1 is never useless. It might be useless for a Guild as a whole, but not for individual members, so if some guildies “miss” the big Tier3 guild event (that will give maximum Guild Merit for the week) some of the officers can organize smaller Tier1 Bounties so those guildies can get their Guild Commendations. In large guilds it’s more noticable that not all members can be online at the same time, though obviously it can happen on a guild of any size.
Tier2 exists as a middle ground, as proven by experience, Guild Bounties scale and sometimes less people can make them easier, so based on how many people are missing their weekly Commendations, guilds can choose the appropriate Guild Bounty tier so everyone gets theirs.
On the other hand, having “extra” Guild Merit for the higher Tier Bounty Missions is making them still viable and not obsolete. They DO require a lot more coordination and planning so shouldn’t they also offer better rewards? And even smaller guilds can do them, if they group up with other guilds.
I don’t think the recent increase in people doing the big world events has anything to do with guesting. There are conflicting opinions regarding loot, do you get loot from a chest if you guest to another server, even if you already looted that particular boss chest with your character? Can anyone say for certain that this is indeed how it works? If the answer is yes then the solution is simple, disable the option to loot a chest more than once per character if you change server.
That is not a solution to the main problem though, the fact that people get rares by going afk… I don’t think the majority of those doing the events are guesting, even without guests there would still be overflows. The problems is different and I can think of a few possible solutions, unfortunately they all have drawbacks:
Normalize timers across the servers, but that would hurt people with limited time. If I can login for 1 hour, shouldn’t I be able to check which server has the Shatterer soon so I guest there and get my rewards?
Have these big events occur at the same time on a particular server, that way we can prevent the event hopping…. also it will boost guesting on other servers (possibly those with low population), you do Shatterer on one server, Jormag on the other and Tequatl on a third. However it will hurt legitimate players who don’t want to switch servers to do all events, should they be excluded from their own server?
Add a “Outmanned” buff (the same used in WvW) when a Dragon/World boss event starts on an low-pop server, it will lead to people guesting there.
Making chests account bound or nerfing the loot from chests are possible options but I don’t need to write what the drawbacks will be….
It should look like this:
First run of tier 1 gives 15 merits, every next run with tier1 will give 1merit.
You can do one tier3 or 16(16×200influence + speed up) runs of tier1.
First run of tier2 will give 20 merits, every next run 1 merit. You beed to do 6 runs to get the cap. This is exactly what I am missing. And it will give 1 merit to a total number of 25.
So you can choose to run T1 many times, or one time T3 for full of 25 Merits a week.
If you could get the maximum merits per week by running tier1 multiple times what’s the purpose of tier2 and tier3?
Does the Guild Bounty not need to be successful for players AND guilds to get the rewards?
Or, say we’re doing a 3 boss bounty but we only kill 2 in the timelimit. We fail as a Guild at the Bounty and so don’t earn our 20 merits, but would people who were in on the 2 kills get their ‘personal’ rewards even though the bounty failed?
For the Guild to get Merit the Bounty must be successful. For the members to get Commendation they must defeat ONE bounty.
I’m also going with the assumption that a player who does T1 on Sunday, say, then joins us for a T2 on Wednesday will not get the Bounty reward the second time, since they’ve already done a Bounty event (albeit T1) in the same week?
I’m not sure about your first question so I will only answer your second one because I know it from experience:
The Guild Commendations are awarded per mission type not per tier. So if someone completes ANY tier of Guild Bounty on Sunday, he won’t get any Commendations from Bounties during that week.
Keep in mind that different tiers award the same Guild Commendations.
Hopefully ArenaNet can take the blown opportunity in the personal story and turn it around here to give the game some narrative depth. I’m not holding my breath though. If these past updates like lost shores and the guild missions fiasco are any indication, this Razing will crash and burn as well. No pun intended. If these past content updates are even slightly indicative of the quality ill be shelling out for for paid expansions, i think i’ll just be really upset. So far, it just seems that Anet misses the mark entirely on what players want to see in this game and what it really needs. More depth, less grind, more reason to play with other people in meaningful ways, etc. Hopefully the game won’t stay this premature forever. Some things, especially combat need a good, long, hard looking-at if this game wants to stay competitive.
Alright… people asked (at least a certain vocal minority) for some bits of vertical progression → we got Ascended Gear, others didn’t ask for it, but some did
People asked for large group content, something for BIG guilds to do, Anet gave us Guild Missions which is an excellent way for big guilds to play together.
I don’t see them missing the mark as much as you do. Sure their choices annoy a part of the community, but another part asked for the them, now which one is bigger or has the majority, we simply don’t know and can never be sure.
That is just wierd.
So there is no point doing guild missions more times then one per week? Then I dont understand why they advertised that guild missions will bring guilds together.
And thats even worse for small guild because they never be able to do T3. Killing 6 in 15 minutes when there is problem to kill 2 in 15 minutes?
Not every member of a guild can be up when a guild mission is happening. So guilds will run more guild missions during one week in order for the majority their members get guild commendations.
If Guild Missions could happen more than once per week then a large guild would get 100000 guild merits in one week… (Maybe more)
I always wonder when I read these types of posts about “time gating”.
First, are those new pieces of gear important and essential in any way? The simple answer is no. They don’t offer as much of a difference (yet) that can influence a dungeon run or even WvW, world pve is a joke anyway.
Second, will you get the same gear as anyone else in the game? Yes, you will, it will only take you more time. Unless you (and anyone who talks about “time gating”) are thinking of quiting the game in a month or two why are you concerned about not getting the gear fast enough? Because others will get it faster?
How is somebody else getting that gear faster affects you? Simple answer: it won’t affect you in any way or form.
When I see people complaining about the dailies or even the guild missions, that they can’t get the new currencies fast enough, I always think that they are planning on leaving the game sooner or later, then why do you need top gear for?
Modern ritualists in GW1 use both magic from the Bloodstone and spirit-empowered magic. Meaning that they still use one of the schools of magic, but they can bypass the limitation the bloodstones created of the four schools through the use of spirits.
Yes but if magic is to disappear for some reason, if the Elder Dragons consume it all, then the Ritualists could still use “supernatural” powers using their Spirit source.
By the way, on a similar topic, it is said that after spliting the bloodstones no mortal can master all forms of magic, but in Guild Wars 1 mortals could certainly use more than one (dual profession), was the link between the Bloodstones weakened over the last 250 years, to the point that nobody is able to master (at least) 2 schools?
Also, with the dual-profession system in GW1 someone might say that you could actually have access to all 4 schools, but not at the same time, in GW2 it seems like it’s not possible.
I can’t login at the moment to check inside (apparently the login server died) but I checked my Gw2.exe (the launcher) it connects to 5 ip addresses:
Three of them are in the US and one of them is in Germany:
This one: 212.205.126.10
The fifth is dead, probably the login server
R.I.P. servers. I guess they couldn’t handle the big “Events” :P
No they are hosted in Germany
1) I don’t think they typically have a “look” to them, but rather a theme. Destruction is the school of magic that Elementalists use (and this is the only case of a profession’s school of magic being confirmed); Necromancers are believed to use Aggression, Monks/Guardians are believed to use Preservation, Mesmers/Thieves to use Denial. What magic the other professions – if any – use is less generally agreed upon though my view is that Ritualists summon spirits to bypass this, though I suspect that they utilize aggression due to similarities to necromancers when spirits aren’t involved; similarly, I suspect Dervishes utilize Destruction, Paragons use Preservation, and GW2 Rangers (as GW1 Rangers showed no signs beyond nature rituals to use magic, and we don’t know _what- those are at all) may use Destruction (similar to the Elementalist in theme) or Preservation (most/all of their magic focuses on the same field as Guardians – lightning and healing/protecting).
Ritualists existed before Abaddon gave the gift of Magic to the races or Tyria so they were unaffected by the Bloodstone split and follow their own rules of Magic.
Source:
More than a thousand years ago, it is said, the gods of Tyria left this world behind—but not before granting the power of magic to the humans who lived there. Although Cantha was settled by humans hundreds of years before the northern continent, Canthan humans did not possess magical power as we currently understand it. Indeed, true magic seems to have appeared in Cantha at the same time it emerged in Tyria. Before this time, however, the Ritualist tradition was already long established.
According to historians, these early Ritualists from the pre-magic era relied on a similar power granted by the dead—by ancestors of the great and powerful who maintained a connection to their descendents. The power of Spirit allowed mortal humans to practice what might be seen as a form of magic. These human Ritualists adapted to true magic when the gods introduced it, but still rely on the Spirits of the dead to put these skills into practice. Unfortunately for scholars such as myself, the skills of the true Ritualist are no longer to be seen; but those that evolved from the merging of magic and Spirit certainly are widespread. Master Togo of Shing Jea Monastery, to name just one example, is a Ritualist of uncanny ability.
Your all fighting the symptoms and not the root. The problem isn’t the low pop servers. The root of the problem is that the world events occur at different times on different servers. People are server jumping to increase their chest drop rate. Its basically an exploit. If you synchronize all world events across all the servers you will lose 90% of the server jumpers and trolls. The people on the small servers will still come but they should be allowed to as they are otherwise blocked from that portion of the game.
I agree, this is the best solution. Guesting players should get their rewards if they helped with an event, that’s the whole point of guesting, the “problem” appears when people guest, not because their server is empty (Which is the intented purpose), but to find an extra chest to loot. This is the root of the problem and what Anet must solve. One way is to synchonize the big world events across all servers, the other way is to make the chest lootable per character/boss instead of character/boss/server so players can loot the chest on one server per boss per character istead of multiple times.
A character can guest on 2 servers, so someone with 3 characters can loot the dragon chests x3 (chars) x 3 (3 dragons) x 3 (home server + 2 guest servers) = 27 times. If they remove server from the equation it will result in the much lower number of 9 times.
adding ascended gear is fine, adding only a few variation of gameplay to get them is not fine
upgrades of earrings is so minor anyway
Upgrades on earrings are minor
Upgrades on rings are minor
Upgrades on amulets are minor
BUT, if you add the stat upgrades of all of them, the difference is larger and once weapons/armor are introduced the difference will be a lot higher (I believe around 10%?)
Like Eliyahu, I think OP could be describing a legit bug, because my pug group brought her down despite the complete lack of coordination whatsoever, with terrible spark running, terrible DPS, and a tear thrower that required constant babysitting through party chat, spamming our petrified status and even writing it down in caps because he just wasn’t reactive enough.
Indeed, there is a bug that makes her re-stealth immediately making the fight near impossible (once she stealth after a SINGLE hit). Instead of nerfing her healing rate, which is a joke now, they should’ve fixed that annoying bug… Exactly as you say, no uber dps needed, no running skills for the sparks (she regens so slowly now you can take your sweet time).
The only reason for a failed run is the bug…. I thought it was fixed with the latest patch but apparently it wasn’t.
There are lots of threads about it, no need for another one.

It depends what type of gameplay you are interested in: WvW, PvE, dungeons, sPVP?
In PvE and Dungeons I use mixed Berserker/Rampager gear with 6x runes with +Boon Duration and Berserker weapons. I survive by using my Skills (cantrips) and my traits (0/10/0/30/30)
My Elementalist is only 20 in Fractals so far but have no issues, while in any other dungeon I perform very well.
Of course you get 2 commendations if you kill “one of 2/3/6” depending on tier. But no, your guild has to kill 2 bounties for tier 1 to get the merits, that does not mean that you have to kill 2.
What? My english is not soo good, so I dont understand you.
For merits, you need kill both bounties in T1.
For Commendations in chest you need to kill only one of bounties.
Right?
Yes. Commendation = any boss, merit = all of them
That way guilds can defeat all bosses at the same time, thus saving time.
Before doing any new changes to Simin, they should first change the final boss of p4… for the final boss of the final dungeon on the final path, it’s so ridiculous I can’t even understand why it even exist in the game. It’s similar to Zhaitan (Story mode) in how pointless it is…
You don’t get recommendations if you are guesting a server. You only get it once per mission. Note that the reset timer is on saturday (Saturday evening (7pm EST) – same time as the daily reset time.) You get those commendations (and 2 rare or better + 50s) if you killed one of 2/3/6 NPCs.
Yes but you get it if you switch guilds… that’s the problem
It’s that kind of attitude that makes me stick mostly to guild groups. Today’s players have no patience with others, and need to rush everything and faceroll it with maxed out gear. At least in my guild, we won’t snob a member because he’s not maxed out in exotics with optimized stats, we accept everybody and we advise each other about how to play better instead of that “if you’re not optimal by my standard, you’re a scrub I don’t want to play with” attitude. Attitude which was bred mostly by WoW and its clones.
Trust who? The guy who says he has 20 AR and gets one-shotted by the Maw because he clearly has 0? Or the guy that comes on this forum and brags how he is using two sets, one full MF and one full zerker both with CoF skin so he can “hide” his MF set?
I never asked for full inspection so people can view if you have optimized stats or anything, that’s not good at all. There are lots of people that hide their gear EVEN when they join groups that ask for specific gear (for example “full zerker Warriors only”) and then come here and complain they got kicked… That’s not a better attitude at all.
Still only AR and MF visible will take care of the majority of problems, plus some reading comprehension from those joining groups.
To you a guild is simple a big group of people ? Then my server is a guild.
Im in a small guild, and we are a small guild of people who meet and play four 7-8 years togheter, shared fun, met each other and speaking almost every day and not only while we are playing GW2 means more be a “Guild” than a guild of 100-500 Players who are there to use the “guild chat” like a LFG chat to do dungeons etc…but what dont give a poo for other players if they dont win anything.
But arena.net think that is not, and is curius after reapat repeat and repeat in the story mode with a 5 Member guilds ( ex.6 ), share bounds, be friends , trust in each other. etc…. SLAP in the face, go a big guild nobody cares about this, pick recomendations now !!!
I’ve been in both big guilds and small guilds in the past on various games. There were times when I joined a guild with friends and we continued being friends and playing together even when we joined a big community, and maybe make some more friends in the process.
Even in my Guild Wars 2 guild we have people that used to play together in other games and still play together, I also play with my friends I made in other games, or know in real life, but I also made some new ones as well, I don’t understand why joining a big guild will ruin a community or make your life miserable in any way.
In fact, you can join a big guild with your friends and continue doing exactly what you do now, but maybe make some new friends in the process, get to know more people. Joining a big guild doesn’t destroy your identity as a group of friends.
Want to know about my equipment?
ASK ME! You know, TALK TO ME! Send me a whisper! I will gladly link you my gear and tell you how to get the pieces you cosmetically like! And maybe you could even make a new friend, who knows!
There is one problem with this… everyone can link different gear with same skin but different stats or even link gear from gw2db. So gear linking is useless when you are interested in knowing the stats, not the skin.
Saying that, I would never want them to add a full inspection, just an easy way to see Agony Resistance and maybe Magic Find and I’m happy, anything more and the drawbacks far outweigh any potential benefits. Still AR and MF should be visible in one way or another.
A Guild of 6 members isn’t a guild though…
Nope, 6 members are guild, 100 members are Order of Tyria.
And 500 are what?
A Guild of 6 members isn’t a guild though…
Can we get some sort of official response to when these rewards are suppose to drop?
Some guildies have 6 commendations, other have gotten nothing from these things for 4 days whats going on Anet…
You can get more if you are in multiple guilds runing missions. Reward is guild bound not account.
That still does not explain no reward at all (if it is true). The commendations should be something all guild members that take part in the mission should get.
Imo this is another example of something implemented without proper testing. Like the 1st day of the new daily system. Lets hope they fix it as fast.
I think you need to get credit for the event to get the commendations. Like in all events, by doing some damage on the boss, otherwise you get nothing.
It’s the faceroll-easy-mode World Boss Events that attract all the people. At least if they made them somewhat challenging, or make them happen at the same freakin time, so the population would need to split instead of going all from boss to boss
I don’t know about open world npcs, they seem as easy as they’ve always been to me, but those open world bosses certainly need a huge buff, they are such a joke now, they can be killed while being afk… That’s not better than having hard encounters
NPCs are killable in 5 people? Yeah, sure but not in time limit. Some NPCs are really nasty, like that in Frostgorge, half ele half thief with Lt.Kholer pulls.
Or maybe Vet. Karka? While there are other vet karkas there? And when You kills karka 2 times, you need to kill champion NPC. Really not doable with only 5 people.
If one of the npcs you get is a “tough” one and the other is easy, you can send two groups of 5 to find both, one group follows the “tough” one while the other group kills the easy one, then you all focus on the “tough” npc, 10 players should be enough, keep in mind that with more players scaling kicks in and makes the fight even harder, not easier.
Also, advertising in map chat helps
Guild Merit or Guild Commendation? There are two different currencies here.
Guild Merits (the guild currency) resets on Sunday, which means if you did a Guild Bounty on Friday and on Sunday you will get rewarded for both.
Guild Commendations work differently, you can certainly get only once per day (per mission) but not sure if you have to wait a week for them to reset as well (like Merits)
We tried to use guide at dulfy.net but no guide wont tell you exactly where NPC is. if you need to run on whole man trying to find NPc you will just loose much time.
As I said, we almost done it, fighting second NPC, maybe in half and Bounty failed.
Maybe advancing time to 20 minutes will be good. Smaller guild will have more time, bigger guid are not worried by time, because they can send people to find them before starting bounty.
The way to do the bounties is to split your guild into teams. For tier 1, two teams are enough, you shouldn’t all go searching for one bounty and then search for the other, your chances of succeeding are lower that way. Splitting is the key here and since bounties can be killed with 5 people, 10 people are enough to do a tier 1 bounty, maybe even less if you get help at the location.
You only get the chest reward once anyway so being there to kill all bosses is pointless, you will not get more chests if you kill more bosses, and that’s obviously good.
guesting isnt the problem;
overly rewarding facerollable open world events on timers are.its time to start thinking guys….
Too bad dungeons now are a joke compared to these events…. Just spam one one one even with 200000ping and after a while get your super rares. This is totally unfair, effort should be rewarded not standing still.
I’m just sad because if Anet ever think this is a problem they will just nerf world boss rewards, which isn’t the solution
The drop rate on the World Bosses is fine. Now they need to change the droprates on other parts as well, doing a 15 minute event shouldn’t have better loot quality than a 1-2hour event.
One does not do dailies for gold…
if they nerf all of that, I’m just back to farming orr and world event and never do dungeon again.
Now that the major world bosses always drop at least rares the dungeon chests need to be buffed, maybe even add a daily reward to them, like the world bosses? It will encourage running different paths instead of running just one path of one dungeon.
Nicely done!
(we oneshotted all 3 tiers on Wednesday but we barely beat the timer – Prisoner 1411 Y U reset?)
the prisoner and half baked were the ones that got my guild wrecked when we tried higher than t2.
Prisoner just booked it the whole time, and vanished right before they started the bounty.
Half baked on the other hand took 30x longer to kill than any other boss, and given that every hit was burning us, he’s one of the few bosses that was damaging everyone at the same time.Prisoner needs to be able to be stopped along his route, and half-baked needs an hp nerf for sure. Other than that the rest of the bosses we fought were fun.
Yeah half-baked is certainly very powerful. Although I believe that those 26 stacks of defiant he got when I tried him with my guild were certainly an issue, I can’t remember how many the other bounties got.
Or just make the ooze royalty battle essential to progress. That was a fun fight, too bad it is completely optional.
I’m using a D/D build with Powerful Auras I can support my party very well, even better in a party full of melee characters (that can benefit more from the aura sharing)
Time and time again i go from mmo to mmo and I find that devs feel the need to change something that was working or people enjoy
Well, a lot of people complained about it beforehand, so criticize them and not ANet, they just did what these people called for.
Really? I literally know of no-one who ever complained about AC exploration needing to be change…
I believe the changes to AC are just a hint as to what we should expect from the other dungeons in the near future. Since it’s the first dungeon players will encounter it makes sense that it will be the first to be updated.
Now to see what kind of changes they will put on the rest of them
I was doing CM story today, I haven’t done it in ages, and every single separatist had some form of knockback from the fighters to the snipers, EVERYONE has a knockback skill… with a very very low cooldown. I can’t remember if it was like this before or not.
It is a gear chase, and it will always be. Before ascended, it was a gear chase. It’s a mmo. I have five alts as well (my poor mesmer is neglected). What is your answer, then, to the gear chase problem? Once you buy something for one toon they all have it? It’s a juggle to try to keep people satisfied and to keep them playing.
It’s a juggle that I thnk Ascended tips way too far into the grind category. I don’t think that buying something for one char should give it to all, that would be too easy. I think exotics were fine, and about the limit for what the gear chase should be. We don’t even have full ascended gear in the game (only 6 out of the 16-18 pieces of gear), and it already takes a month to get just those 6 pieces. By the time every piece is added, we’ll be up to 3 months (maybe more if weapons/armor take more time/items) to equip a single character.
New pieces of gear can be acquired from different parts of the game. It stands to reason that armor/weapons will also be available from another part of the game, so if all those ways were available now, it would take you far less than 3 months to get everything.
The only exception is laurels, they already shown us that everything will be available with laurels (but at a high cost). You can only get Rings from Fotm and only Accessories from Guild Commendations, maybe in the future only laurels will have everything, that would mean it will take a long time to equip a character if you only do it through laurels, if your playstyle is diverse enough it will take far less time.
It’s funny that those champs they added give the same loot as normal mobs (but taking 10 times longer to kill) making most players ignore them until the normal mobs have been taken care off first…
It’s only fair for me to point my fingers at crit damage caps being double in WvW compared to PvP.
And of course that’s another fine example of Anet “balancing”… due to PVP and PVE having the same skills, yes WvW IS PVP.
Don’t worry, mobs only attack every 2 seconds anyways, so a 2 second Internal cool-down won’t effect PvE!
Yes but it will affect WvW, another split will benefit both, not only PvE.
They already solved the issue with confusion in PVP by reducing damage there. IF you are having a problem with it in WvW tough luck, Anet is not going to split skills for WvW and since confusion is already weak in PVE they can’t nerf it anymore ^^
Until they split WvW and PvE skills the game will be broken…
But i actually know the answer when i think to guardians……
Balance PvP>www> Pvedespite gamers population is
PvE>www>pvpmakes sense….
The thing is PVP balance doesn’t affect PVE only WvW does and it is really ridiculous that they nerf professions due to WvW. If skills are such an issue there SPLIT them. It’s impossible to have a profession balanced properly in a pure PVE settings and a PvPvE setting (WvW)
