Since NCSoft has multiple companies…they could simply request them what they need. So…Arena.Net might work on this new project. If NCSoft says ,, we need 5 devs for this project from Arena.Net" , then 5 devs will work on that.
Recently, Arena.Net stated that they would make updates more rare and consistent, instead of small updates every two weeks. Was this decision taken by them or NCSoft requested this, to give them more time to work on the new project? When you have more time before deadline, you don’t need to struggle so hard to make players happy.
“We plan to release our best game ever using our Unreal Engine expertise and the new state-of-the-art Unreal Engine 4 tools,” NCSoft said.
If they say best game ever, and Guild Wars 2 is a model for all MMOS, then I think they might involve Arena.Net . They say they want to develop something better than GW2, but since GW2 is the best of all… what could they do more?
Hi. Searching the net…I have found this:
http://www.examiner.com/article/guild-wars-2-publisher-inks-unreal-engine-4-guild-wars-3-coming
Seems that NCSoft publisher wants a MMO with Unreal Engine 4. Is Arena.Net involved in this?
The idea that they could work on GW3 is pretty improbable, due to the massive updates in the last period. Will we see the next Arena.Net MMO ? Everything seems possible now, if NCSoft took this decision.
Another thing that seems interesting to me is the fact that they use UE4. I am also interested in developping games with UE4. I am a 3D modelling hobbyist and Blueprints seem all I need to make games without learning to code… To find out that a great publisher is using the same tools is awesome. In this way, their players could give a different type of feedback…we could know better what is behind the scenes.
Hi. I have modelled in Blender a Charr for my guild’s contest. The contest time was very short so I barely succeded finishing this version. I plan to continue to work on it. What do you think so far ?
Could such a system be implemented in Guild Wars 2 ?
Hi. I have a question. In the past, I wore several armors, witch currently I don’t have. Will these armors be counted as skins, or all the armors equiped after feature pack?
Hi. I have made a few suggestiond about how the current music system could be improved. They could be found here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/audio/Musical-System-Awesome-Requests
Hi. I have some requests that could be implemented in the current music system.
1. Lower Latency
A lower latency means better music controll. The current system is not good enough for band play.
2. Add sharps
The current musical greatest limitation is that you cannot play sharps. Here is how could they be implemented: when you play, if you hit a note it sounds normal. When you hold Ctrl and hit the same key, the note pitch raises with a semitone.
3. Add abc files support
Abc system allows players to play their own tabs. They create a tab in notpad, place it in a Guild Wars 2 folder, and, with an instrument equiped, if players write in chat /thesongname, their character plays automaticly that tab.
4. Multiple notes at a time
Currently, players can play a single not at a time. They can’t play more, to create chords.
5. More instruments with chords
I would like to see more instruments with chords, such as mandolins, guitars etc.
Here are some players in LOTRO, playing in the same time. I would like that these kind of bands to be possible in GW2.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&persist_app=1&v=MfKSVJIcDK0
And here is how their system works. Mabie gw2 system could be updated.

Hi. Currently, in GW2, there are two environment instruments: two organs, one underwater, and another in a small twon. I would like to see more instruments of this kind.
Also, here is another suggestion: after visiting and completting all the instrument puzzles, you get an achievement, that gives you as reward a special instrument that you could play, an unusual one.
So… if feature pack goes live …should I wait for a price drop? Nowdays…people are buying character slots…and the price is high
So…now I’m quite confused. After feature pack gems price will rise a lot?
They can’t reverse engineer it. Once the users subscribe, they pay every month a fee. Before subscribing, they accept some legal documents. Arena.Net could actually get enough money for ip protection, because if you were releasing a mmo with their engine, you would have to pay to Arena.Net a percent of your sales. If Arena.Net keeps the C++ source code locked, they can’t even think to reverse engineer it. Even more…who would want to risk that ?
Hi. Arena.Net, while making Guild Wars games, has developped an in-house game engine capable to work with a great server infrastructure. There were a few game companies, that released their in-house tools for indie devs or other AAA game studios. Nowdays, there are no game engines, oppened to the public, specially designed for MMO development. Here, Arena.Net could strike. They have more than ten years experience in MMO development. They could combine their in-house tools to a development pack, then making it accesible via subscription. If, in their
pack, they also include visual scripting tools, then anyone, with no coding knowledge, could do awesome games, concentrating only on the artistic workflow. Another idea is to give, in that engine editor, some Guild Wars 2 mechanics as example. (a kind of demo).
Now, as an Arena.Net developper stated here, http://www.gamedev.net/blog/355/entry-2250155-why-you-shouldnt-be-making-an-mmo/ , the server part is some kind of dark voodo. For a valid mmo engine to work for indies, it needs a lot of simplification. As stated in that article, for indies, making a MMO is not a good job to start. Mabie, Arena.Net could simplify things in such a way that MMO development would become affordable to anyone.
What do you think?
Hi. I wish to buy a flute, by changing gold to gems. The question is… when should I make the transaction…before feature pack or after? When will gem price lower?
Hi. I know that in the past, there were similar threads, but all I have found is locked under old suggestions forum. So…nowdays Arena.Net tries to modify the servers infrastructure, adding the new Megaserver feature. In this case, is the Linux support planned…along with these new updates?
Will the new Feature Pack contain tools that allow players to create their own events…let’s say…creating custom rushes in any location?
However…I think they read about 3 pages of forums. I don’t think they look at older posts. Everyone is trying to grab the attention of the devs, to show their feedback. CDI might be a better way to do that. However, if your feedback is not on current discussed topic, you have to wait a long time, and continue hunting, until you find the CDI topic your feedback fits.
What I have noticed is that posts that have a lot of debate get seen. If you have a good idea and everyone says ,,ok…‘’, they won’t post, and your thread gets flooded. People tend to disagree, rather than to agree.
On these forums…giving feedback to developpers might be a problem. If you post on forums, in General Discussion and your topic is not kept alive by other players posts, your topic gets flooded in a few hours. How to raise your topic’s chance to be seen by developpers? What is the best way to get heard? An idea is to post your topic in Arena.Net time zone. I have noticed that they visit forums within a limited period of time. For a GMT +2 player, at what hour is best to post feedback, to avoid flooding?
How could you raise your chance to get noticed?
The idea is that everyone could create tracks and invite others. It doesn’t mean to be everytime official. I think it would be super fun. If a checkpoint goes near a vista, there would also be jumping puzzles along the track.
Hi. A few days ago, I participated at Foostival, a community event. Some of the activities were marathons, in which players were racing on the track decided by event creator. The problem is that for this kind of events, the game lacks technical support. You don’t know where to start, the track shape gets confusing and at the end of the marathon, there must be a person to see which player crosses first the finish line. If there are many players participating, it is pretty hard to see. Even more, without clear checkpoints, some of the participants could cheat.
I think that if the player events would have a technical base, it would be easier for communities to create their contests. I imagine an item that would allow the players to create their own track. After usage, you get some skills: one allows you to place the start line, another checkpoints, and the last the finish line. After you complete the track, you invite people to participate to your marathon. Once they accept, the track becomes visible to them. When the marathon starts, all the participants are placed automaticly at the start line. The marathon creator could also give rewards to the winners trough an automated system.
What do you think?
Hi. I usually sell things when my backpack gets full. I don’t sell the items at scattered sellers, I sale them directly on TP. When oppening Trading Post screen, I wish I had more options when right clicking an item to sell. I wish to have two more buttons, among sell and preview: Deposit Collectible and Equip. I open the backpack less often than the trading post screen. These options would be helpful.
Proposal Overview
Dungeons as capture points, in which controlling players/server could buy and place creatures.
Goal of Proposal
Adding gameplay variation, opening up new interesting strategies.
Proposal Functionality
On WvW map, the enemy server players enter the dungeon, and the point to capture is in the middle of it, let’s say underground. On the way, enemy players fight mobs, placed by the dungeon owners. Choosing which monsters/traps to buy and where to place them could be an entire strategy. Each monster has an area (circle) around. If the monster is more powerful, that area is larger, so you can’t put another one just beside him. Each dungeon is divided in zones. Each zone has its own mob power limit. If the enemies capture the point, all the monsters die, and they need to be replaced.
Associated Risks
- Buying and placing mobs might be time consuming.
- It requires a different game ballance, harder to achieve. We count here that monsters alone might have a slight chance of defeating the players.

I have network lag, since the last patch. My net works OK, I have tested it on other sites. I can’t even play the game. I enter, the mobs don’t attack me, I press the skills, symbol is active but nothing happens. When I press to teleport to a waypoint, I am sent back to menu. Numerous disconnection problems. I am playing on Seafarer Rest.
I have found a site that tries to make some sort of Guild Wars 2 3D model viewer.Mabie asking them to add creatures would be helpful. http://www.guildhead.com/3d-model-viewer
Hi. I have a simple question that probably everyone is asking. The CDI was live for some time. Everyone is suggesting. So far, what actually got implemented in game due to CDI topics ? What was the real impact of the CDI on the game?
Hi. I am thinking that in the future I could model a 3D Charr, and post it on official forums, in sub-section fan-generated content. The ideea is that the users could download that model and create their armor designs on it. I have a question: Could this be safe? I don’t want to have trouble. On forums, it is stated that everything you post is a commision to Arena.net . Does this apply to files located on a external site, that have a link on the forums to them? Should I put them in a archive, along with a txt file that states that they are commisions? Do the official forums permit attachments other than images? Should I mail Arena.Net before starting? What do you think? I want to be sure that everything is ok.
After some days of thinking, I went to a viable plan for the CGDP. The main purpose for the CGDP is teaching the Guild Wars 2 community how to make art, to build a stable, creative player base, that could make awesome things at the Arena.Net contests. So, have you ever wanted to make original 2D or 3D cinematics, like the ones in this game? Have you ever wanted to learn 3D skills, that could let you build stuff out of your imagination? The Community Game Development Project is all about that. Creative players, helping creative players. You make community tutorials for others, and learn from other community tutorials. Share your knowledge, and get knowledge, all of this in the Guild Wars 2 environment. So, in the end, the community would show its true creative potential, and let everyone stunned.
Now, I want to thank everyone participating in these threads, for helping me decide on this concept. Your help is really valuable. Hope that someday, the CGDP will be more than a concept, from which everyone could benefit.
P.S. If you search on the internet Guild Wars 2 behind the scenes, you could find interesting information about how various things were made in this game .
Probably, somewhere in the future, I will put a base of the CGDP, if no one starts it before. Thank you again for your support and remember: you might join this project anytime, if you want.
So, what you are saying is make fan art, then send to arena net for review and maybe we would see that piece of art in the game sometime in the future.
That would be nice. But that would mean that they would have a team just reviewing all of the art that comes in on a daily basis. I don’t see a reason for them to do such a thing. They have their hands full with making the living story a viable thing, plus some yet-to-be-revealed-background-projects that we might not ever know about them.
Why would they spend money and time on this, even if it is an awesome idea?
I think you are right. For devs, verifying every art input would cost precious time, that could be used elswhere. However, I am thinking of a new system that could channel the community artistic power, so it would be viable. Here is how could it work:
1. Getting more modelling power
Nowdays, in the community, there are quite a few 3D artists. For this project to be viable, there should be more. I am sure that in this community, there are a lot of people eager to create, but they lack technical knowledge. So, to help them, some guys could launch a series of tutorials, made specially for the GW2 community, that could teach them how to deal with 3D ( modelling, UV mapping, normal mapping etc.)
2. Some special CGDP (community game development project) threads are released, each one with a certain topic. Let’s take for example a topic saying “Creating the Tengu City-CGDP”. In that thread, the 2D artists post their concepts about how that city could look like. The community discuss, and choose the best concept . After that, the 3D artists focus on that concept. The 2D artist which had its concept elected could create refferences to lelp the 3D artists do the stuff. So, trough community debate, the developpers assist is minimised, so they could concentrate better on their work. Of course, they could, from time to time, take a look at what the community is doing, expressing their oppinions, giving support, but not in a way that could put their development time in danger.
3. Implementing- after the project gets to a certain phase of complexity, it could be implemented into the game. A beta server for testing new content would be nice.
After reading these, what do you think? If you are fan of a game, have time and development power then find these kind of projects would you participate?
The evolution thread is open right now. Perhaps you should drop in and ask if such a thread would be possible. There have been similar questions about having a CDI thread hosted by their staff artists and if they do that, maybe showing off art for review and inspiration would be appropriate.
Been there, posted that. Still, no feedback. I am really curious about how this idea will end up. What do they think about this…
we can choose to shelve, rebuild or ‘can’ content or a feature at any point and we don’t share info on features or content until we are happy with the quality.
This mitigates disappointing the community and allows us to develop at the appropriate pace.
If that is what CDI is about, then GDI (Guided Discussion Initiative) would be a more appropriate and less misleading name. (I’m not being sarcastic here, just writing my honest impression.)
If we picture the development cycle as:
1. Observe: collect information and opinions about the current state of the game
2. Orient: make sense of the observations
3. Decide: converge on the next set of features and fixes
4. Develop: work on themThe current state of CDI involves “just” the Observe and maybe Orient stage. I understand that the Decide stage is up to Anet.
But the Develop stage can also be broken down to smaller Observe – Orient – Decide -Develop cycles. Is there no way for the community to give feedback there? Perhaps something like setting up an “alpha” world and doing alpha-testing there. I’m getting doubtful even as I write this, but posting nevertheless to hear what others think..
I would also like to see more involvment of the community in development process. I would like it to do more than observing, to be actively a part of development, to gain various roles.( testing, and even more)
Hi. I have a suggestion about a new type of CDI topic, hosted by staff artists. In that topic, the players could give a different type of feedback than writing down their concepts. Their collaboration could actually consist in making and posting 3D models that, if accepted, could get a chance to be integrated in the game. The staff artists could show off art for review and inspiration (workarts or blueprints) , and the community, based on the images, could create new content for the game. Nowdays, the 3D content creation applications have become more accessible for the common folk. Anyone could create stunning art, with no financial sacrifices.
What do you think about this? Would such a thread be possible?
Nowdays, the Collaborative Development Initiative is based only on discussion. I would really like to see a new Collaborative Development Initiative, in which you could participate with your 3D art to the game. Here is how could it work: You create a 3D asset in an external application, that fits the Guild Wars 2 environment, then you submit it for review. If the Guild Wars 2 teams consider that your piece of art is worthly, they implement it in the game, and you also get an in-game achievement, to keep you motivated.
The process of collaboration could also be conducted towards a cretain dirrection, by challenges implementation. You get an artwork, or blueprint, and you have the challenge to create an asset based on it. Better done, better chances to get it implemented.
By actively doing works of art, you get a new feeling, of accomplishment, that no other game achievement could give you. You’ve done your work, you struggled for it, and the game rewards you. Even if the reward is symbolical, with no special attributes, you know that ,,the game knows it’’, and that reward comes from outside of world of Tyria. It is a new type of implication, that no Tyrian gods could ever guess it…
There are still some problems:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/88709-guild-wars-2-fan-made-unity-community-game-questions/
Is this way safe? Don’t want trouble. I stated there that I am thinking, not actually planning.
There is no arrogance in this. It was purely just an idea. I never stated that idea that players could do a better job than real devs. They could make something fun to play, as a tribute to the game they like. It is not even a remake.
I got an idea how to solve this. Firstly, the community working on this project will be splited in three: developper players, testing players and normal players. The developper players are actually developping the game, making meshes, coding scripts etc. After a game version is finished, they give it to testing players"guild". The testing players test the game and see if game ballance is ok and there is no exploit. If everything is fine, then they post the tested version on a site and this is the semi-official version. Normal players actually play the game, by downloading the tested version. If the testing players realise that the version that developper players version has issues, they ask them to solve. The testing players"guild" should be made of players you can trust. Eventually, when the online version is out, they maintain the server. A version already tested can also be put again on the table of developper players for further work. In this way, the game would be correct.
Even more, codes could be reused. For example when capturing a point, in that place, there could be a cylinder used as a triggerer, with a script on it that gives points to your team on capturing. This script can be set on any invisible collider/capture point on that map/other maps. Also, if Mecanym system is used, animatiions from a human character could be easily transfered to a Norn or Sylvari. Only with the Char there are some problems, because for it there must be some custom walking animations.
If the project remains oppened, every player could add something, a mesh, a line iof code etc. I think that firstly, the game should work on local Wi-fi, with transfering progression file. In this way, it won’t be so overwhelming. I saw some tutorials with Unity on Youtube, on which the creator of the tutorial had GW2 icon on desktop, so there might be some guis more experienced that could help less experienced ones.
I have found on youtube a video on this topic. Still, I think that what I wrote above is the best approach for a community project(if there would be ever such a thing),, because of obvious reasons.(compared to that video)
About editor: I think there could be an alternative: Guild Wars 2 Mobile. This has never been done, altough Anet planned a mobile SDK release for streaming gameplay. So, instead of using an in-game editor, the comunity could use some existing editors, such as UDK or Unity. I think that if the hype is big enough, a PvP version of GW2 mobile could be created. In that case, creating custom arenas would be possible. To get a similar graphic to the original game, the edges of the textures could be smoothed.(at least, that I read in a game review).
You’re right. If an editor was planned, then the entire game should have been coded from the very beginning to support that. Also, Arena.Net never advertised such a thing. Probably we would see this in the MMOs launching this year….
But if the editing capabilities would be limited to a private instance, where you could invite your friends? Will this be easyer to implement?
The story of Guild Wars began as the gods invoked Serpents, mythical creatures that had the power to shape the world. This fact could be used as a plot for a new Guild Wars 2 feature, where, trough the Eye of the Serpent, you shape your own story. So, here is how it could take place:
When accessing this feature in-game, an editor window is oppened. The developpers make avabile for you, depending on the period, a pack of assets, as well as some tasks you should complete. For the best stories, the developpers give marks for Voice acting, Level design etc. If your story is good enough, it could get a chance to be adapted in the Game World. The assets packs are not avabile forever. They are made avabile in editor to allow players complete a certain task. For example, developpers want to test community creativity by making avabile assets for making zone x. The plsyers start to build it, trying to follow developpers guide.(tips for how should it look). In the end, the best is selected, and get a chance of being adapted.
For cinematics, the editor could have three main timelines: one on which you put expression blocks(anger, fear), other mimics(hands gestures), and other lipsinc. All thesr merge together.
The editor could be benefic for game and comunity because: 1.It could create masterpices. Look at Nehrim. 2. The bound between developpers and players would tighten even more. 3. There will be more voices in voice acting. 4. It will be fun to controll a Serpent, and in the same time edit the lands.
I have some questions: what is the purpose of asset kit and why it was named so? I could see that currently, inside, are some images. Initially, I tought there were some obj or fbx 3D models, which devs have given to players for creating their own GW2 storyes, animations or fan game.(fan-made content) Asset usually means a game component : script,image,sound,music,3D model etc…
But what happens when you add new content to end game- I wrote an entire essay about how the end game could be made. It is an alternative to all the things you’re complaining in this thread. Instead of just complaining, let’s take a more creative approach. Mine is like this:
I have reached max level. I have a guild, named A. The leader of my guild declares war to guild B. From that moment, the game gives me the option to participate in the current Guild War, or not. If I say yes, then the war starts. All the opponent guild members that participate to the war have their color changed in red, so they are enemies. The guild war takes place on Tyria map, when pressing M, I can see all my guild members that participate scattered on the map, as well as other objectives.
The Objectives- During the war(or even before it), my guild search for hidden artifacts, placed in secret dungeons, that give all my guild a buff. To be functional, the artifact need to be placed somewhere safe. Where? My guild can buy dungeons, and in those dungeons, the artifacts are kept. By spending gold or other currency, you can buy mobs, buy traps and place them in your dungeon, to prevent the other guild from stealing your artifacts. Every dungeon is divided in sectors. Within a sector, there is a limit of monsters you can put, depending on the creature power. By upgrading your dungeons, raising their levels, you could put there more mobs per sector or more powerful ones. A powerful mob uses the same amount of creature power as several less powerful mobs.
While engaged in a guild war, it is a real danger for the player so while he is engaged, when he enters game firstly, after selecting the character, the game gives the option to warp to the last point where he disconnected, or choose checkpoint. This is because if you spawn alone, there is a posbility to get killed by a group of players of enemy guild. In menu, you could talk to the other guild members about a safe spawn location.
If you are killed for 5 times by a opponent guild player, you are automaticly kicked from the guild war, and all the enemy players appear for you as normal green players. In this case, you are worthless for the war. A guild wins the war when the opponent guild died for 5 times.
For obtaining the artifacts, there could be also some interesting quests.
By winning a guild war, your guild gets experience, its level raises(the guild could gain level as in the case of players), and when the guild is higher level, new types of creatures, more powerful ones, are unlocked for buying.
Ah… I forgot…in the case of dungeons, in the bar, instead of skills, there are mobs that can be set. The numbers above show how many of each your guild has. When you or other member of your guild sets a mob, that number descreases.
In the end, there could also be objectives similar to the WvW ones…
Note that guild wars can be accessed only at level 80, when main quest is over. This is for raising the gameplay time.
I think all the MMOs share the same end game activities: farming for unuseful objects to show to your friends. What can you do with an Unique weapon with 9999 power if there is no challange for it? Same thing everywhere. I think that implementing Guild wars can make a real difference for the end game.
Guild wars won’t be an alternative to zerging, as described above ? I mean, this is another thing to do. In addition to that, the game name gets a sense. Are Guild wars zerging?
Got an idea: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-Wars-2-suggestion-real-Guild-Wars/first#post2706726 . If they would implement this( or something similar), there will be more strategy.
If they would do this, being level 80 would be something really cool, and the game name would get a sense. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Guild-Wars-2-suggestion-real-Guild-Wars/first#post2706726 Meanwhile, at level 80 I think it is quite booring to play. A better alternative is to create a new level 1 character, with different story etc. In this case, you have more reasons to play.
