wow, nailing the coffin so early
it’s got almost a week left
30% of its duration still left to go

next patch I hear has a small update to fractals

Wouldn’t say nailing the coffin, I’m enjoying SAB a lot, was just curious :P

Just out of curiosity, since Super Adventure Box is ending soon, what do you think is going to be in the next patch… or what IS going to be in the next patch?

I know that the old World vs World map is going to come back, I know that Scribing prices are going down, and that’s all I really know.

Anyone else know more?

Thanks.

Hi guys,

So with raids out and popular, and with the changes to ascended crafting I thought I’d make an updated guide to making ascended gear. This time around I have an ascended weapons guide, with a step-by-step guide and material list. I’ll be creating an armor guide soon too, since my outdated one is a bit old.

Too bad it’s a video. Text and screenshots, or even a series of short videos for each specific bit would be much more practical because it would allow players to find the bit they’re stuck on right away.

Admittedly I can’t speak for everyone but I certainly don’t want hand holding through every step of the process, that would suck all the fun out of it. What I want is to be able to look up one thing I’m working on (e.g. the location of the A-maze-ing furniture shop), find a dedicated guide to how to do that one thing, then go back to playing normally until the next time I’m stuck.

Thanks for the feedback, however this really isn’t a guide for each of the zones and worlds, rather a general overview of what there is to do, and what there is to get.

Type of Player Are You/Goals You Should Have

in Community Creations

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

If it’s one thing I’ve seen many people say it’s that they don’t know what to do in Guild Wars 2, and that they are lost, and find it boring. Because of all this, and partly with the fact that for most casual players, and those who aren’t interested in raids, or PVP, this term of us being in a “content drought” seems to become evermore so popular.

Hence, I decided to take some time and actually talk about this issue, and discuss the different types of players that play Guild Wars 2, and how one should identify themselves as one to make the game more fun. Guild Wars 2 has many opportunities to make your own goals, and allows you to play how you want to play, which is what makes it so great, but if you don’t know what type of player you, and don’t have any goals, it can get rather stale pretty quickly.

If you’re interested, or are in the same situation as I’ve described check out my recent discussion video here:

Are you an explorer, story nerd, grinder, achiever, a participant of Fashion Wars, etc? And have you finished all your goals?

How People Get Into Fights On GW2

That’s long been fixed.

I’ve completed the race numerous times under another guilds “banner” while not repping them and got credit.

Well my experience 10 minutes ago says otherwise, along with everyone else on map chat complaining. Maybe they had missed the one Bear Lope, and didn’t fix that one.

By fighting over who is going to activate the guild race banner. That’s right. If you want your kittening personal reward chest, you have to start the race. If your guild doesn’t start the guild race, and activate the banner, you don’t get personal credit even if you completed the race.

Now what kind of bullkitten is this. It’s been months now since HoT release, and still this kitten is bugged. WHY!? I just wasted an hour an half trying to figure this out, and finally realized you can’t get personal rewards unless the guild YOUR IN, starts the mission.

Stupidest idea ever, to gate this behind an exclusive activation, on a one instance map accessible by everyone, and gated behind a 30 minute time wall!

If the link I posted above in my edited post includes all the decorations that we’re only getting for the guild hall, then I’m really disappointed. Where are the placeable holiday food, placeable presents, placeable Christmas tree, placeable christmas lights, candy canes, snow sleds, etc. There are so many things that could have been added to guild hall decorations.

And well… PVP is already a let down, lol. Do you see how the meta is right now. One of the Pro league teams even quit mid-game. And Fractals? Well… we’ll see what the patch brings today.

A single DH wouldn’t have made any difference in that match man. Bummer you got put against them, guess you should have rolled Ranger, or Mes, or Necro, or ANYTHING with a pet/ai driven character. Want to make a DH mad? have a pet walk through their traps.
Want to beat a DH? Play something that can out survive them. The longer the fight, the harder it is for DH to win.

Yeah I realized that, but I am playing Tempest, and sure I can deal with one DH easily, but not with 4 of them. I don’t have enough Diamond Skin to avoid the condis, I don’t have enough dodge rolls to dodge the traps, I don’t have enough stability overloads to be knocked around.

maniamsmart.7981

EDIT: Well I posted this a couple weeks back, and looks like I’ve been let down. There aren’t many new guild hall decorations coming, and pretty much the same is coming this year for Wintersday with a few minor additions.

http://dulfy.net/2015/12/11/gw2-guild-chat-wintersday-preview-livestream-notes/

If you have full exotic set gear, you’re probably going for ascended through crafting and gold farming. If you have ascended, you’re probably going for skins through achievements and gold farming. If you have skins, you’re probably going for legendary through collections.

What if you don’t care for skins though because you already have the one you like, nor legendary interests you? No point really for you to do dungeons, you got your skins, no point to do fractals you got your ascended and skins, no point to do raids you don’t care for legendary. Hence, no point to gold farm.

BUT. There’s pvp ranked leagues coming up which I applaud you for and thank you for. And there’s guild halls, which pretty much makes dungeons, raids, fractals and gold farming all worthwhile again so you can build up your guild hall and decorate it to your imaginations content.

So please, do not mess up pvp, please do not discontinue it after one season. Please, do not discontinue updating guild halls, please do not keep us with the same buildings and decorations forever. Christmas is coming, please add some neat stuff for us to craft and earn to decorate our hall, not just through gems.

There’s now pretty much a place for everyone at end game, please do not leave a part of the community out who enjoy a certain part of the game more by not continuing to update it and add on to it, because rumor has it you’re good at that, no offense.

And of course masteries and elite specs which I have faith in you in

Yeah, I like hard trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

I wouldn’t call it hard. Many of the roles are soft, in that they are ill-defined and can be done by many classes. If I were to break it up…

Burst DPS
Sustained DPS
Ranged DPS
Burst condi DPS
Sustained condi DPS
Ranged condi DPS
Primary boon giver
Specialty boon giver
Hard CC
Soft CC
Projectile Management
Boon Stripper
Blast Finisher
Healer
Rezzer
Tank (either bulk HP, block tank, or evade tank)
Two types of DPS: AoE vs. Single Target.

With classes doing multiples roles. For example, take the Herald. The herald is the primary boon giver, giving out might/fury/swiftness and occasionally protection/regen. The herald is also the sustained DPS, having a very high damaging auto attack. With further specialization, the herald can also be the healer/projectile management. With even further specialization, sustained condi and boon stripper.

The need for each role depends on the content.

If Herald is the primary boon giver, what is Guardian then? :/ I thought they were supposed to be the best at giving boons and defenses.

I am literally just asking this because I don’t want to build all of my characters around the same type of armor. Like I have a Berserker set for my Ele when I want to play the burst max dps, and I have a Magi set when I want to play the healing auramancer. So I am trying to get into my guardian now, but don’t know what they are good at.

Healer Guardian

in Guardian

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

Guardians aren’t meant to be healers, they are mean to give passive healing, boons, condition removal, defenses, etc.

Druids and perhaps event Herald fill in the healer role better.

Yeah, I like hard trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

I guess what I am asking is kind of what are the classes best at? Guardians are good at giving defense to the group, Druids are good at healing, Elementalists are good at bringing tons of damage. What about the others?

Yeah, I like hard trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

The “Trinity” of Guild Wars 2 is Control, Support, and DPS.

Also, the poster who said, “Warrior/Berserker is DPS Support and does both worse than other classes,” has no idea what he’s talking about, ignore that one. Warrior is one of the most indispensable support classes (Empowered Allies, Banner of Strength, Banner of Tactics).

Oh I figured it wasn’t the worst, just wanted a good understanding of each class.

Thanks for the links. So would this be a good categorization?

Warrior: DPS/Support
Elementalist: DPS/Support
Guardian: DPS/Support
Thief: DPS/Support
Mesmer: DPS/Control
Ranger: DPS/Control
Necromancer: DPS/Control
Engineer: DPS/ Control
Revanent: DPS/Support/Control

?

Yeah, I like hard trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

Warrior/Berserker is DPS Support and does both worse than other classes.

Support as in with shouts and banners?

Yeah, I like hard trinity...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

So yeah, I’ve always been into hard trinity, play your role, class specific type of gameplay. I know that Guild Wars 2 doesn’t really have that, because it is different from the traditional MMO gameplay. However, I still think there is a hidden hard trinity. For example, playing a Zerker Ele will do more damage than a Zerker Guardian. So I am trying to figure out the hidden hard trinity for the classes.

Elementalist/Tempest = DPS Burst
Necromancer/Reaper = DOT Condi
Ranger/Druid = Heals
Guardian/Dragonhunter = Tank
Warrior/Berserker = DPS Support

Does that sound about right? Where would the other 5 classes stand?

Thanks.

Will edit list for my self as people comment.

Tempest: High DPS & Semi-Support Build

in Elementalist

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

Hey guys,

So I am playing Elementalist, and I love the staff and some of the Tempest overloads, I am looking for a build that sort of does tons of damage but can also grant buffs to the group. This is a general build for PVE, Dungeons, and Fractals. I am currently using part of WoodenPoatoes’s Tempest DPS guide he showed on his YouTube channel, here is what I have. Do you have any other suggestions, or changes I should make?

GEAR
Armor:: Ascended Zerk, Scholar Runes
Weapon: Ascended Zerk Staff, Force and Night Sigils
Trinkets: Ascended Zerk

SPECIALIZATIONS
Fire: Top, Top, Middle
Air: Bottom, Bottom, Top
Tempest: Top, Bottom, Bottom

UTILITY SPELLS
Arcane Brilliance
“Feel the Burn!”
Glyph of Storms
“Aftershock!”
Glyph of Elementals

One of the neat things about this build is that I can Fire 2, and then Fire Overload and tons of damage comes from it. Not really sure how to utilize the other overloads, but I know that I do share some auras. I also dodge pretty well and can stay alive for quite some time, so I am not too worried about being too squishy, however, if you feel like building Toughness or Vitality could be helpful, to make things easier, please do tell. Let me know what you think about what I have so far.

Thank you.

Making gold for a legendary?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

o_o

Do people actually spend hundreds of dollars on a shiny video game skin?

Here’s how I see it. In the end I am going to end up with my shiny new skin. Now, how do I want to get there?

I can earn my gold by playing the game for roughly 150 hours and grinding, flipping the TP, running the same dungeons, farming, etc. Or, I can do my current job for a few days, convert cash to gold, and enjoy my skin. I skip the grind and get back to playing fashion wars 2.

A younger (single) me would grind because spending a few hundred dollars on a game sounds ludicrous. My older (married w/ children) self understands what I can do with those hundred hours not spent grinding.

Good point. Well made too.

Do People Still Do Dungeons? Or Fractals?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

Yeah, another question out of curiosity.

One of my guildees just messaged me saying he got 60k epx from AC dungeon and his mastery bar literally moved half an inch. He was in the dungeon for 15-20 mins. I know for a fact I get way more exp from doing events. And we all know the gold nerf dungeons got. So what’s the point in doing them? It feels like they are really neglected. I see no purpose in doing dungeons anymore, maybe you guys can give me a purpose.

And fractals? Sometimes I spend more gold getting the keys to open the boxes then I do selling the contents within the boxes. And the gold transfer to fractals? I don’t see that anywhere. And high fractal levels are so long because enemies have massive amounts of health? Is there a purpose for doing fractals even?

Why Would Anyone Buy Black Lion Keys?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: maniamsmart.7981

maniamsmart.7981

As I already saw in this thread, and in other threads, some people refuse to buy anymore ever again, including myself. So how does that make any money, or make any sense even

Because there is always another “you” coming along and buying keys. And that’s all that is needed, a continuous stream of people who either don’t know the odds or don’t believe the odds or get lucky the first time, so they keep on buying.

You’d still make a ton more if everyone else still were to buy keys because they actually saw it was worth.

Maybe. But maybe they’ve listened to studies that say lots of low rewards and occasional, rare high rewards motivates people to try harder. It would explain the whole reward structure of the game if that’s it.

Oh well, not my company. I just won’t buy anything anymore
