I’m hopeful at Chris’s latest post – I mean, the whole move is still slightly disconcerting.. but.
We do have the assurance that they do not intend to keep increasing stats.
So, basically, this is a one-time move intended to give players a bit more ‘meat’ in the gear-up process when they hit 80. Now, bear with me – Arenanet never said getting gear at 80 would be absolutely effortless. They said you’d do it with a little dedicated effort, get your max stats, and then be done. Hopefully that vision is still intact.
As for the whole agony mechanic.. well, heck. I’m going to trust the GW1 vets who said this ‘Mursaat’ mechanic was no big deal way back when. I’ll take a wait-and-see attitude.
i’m glad he posted that. it’s not looking so bad now. if i can get the ascended gear over time without having to do the dungeon with the stupid agony crap, that’s great. i’m in.

daoc style realm ranks please. with visible titles (so invader/defender changes to your rank title). and NO gear progression!
and while you’re at it, make it so you can tell what guild has a keep claimed (guild tag on guards)

There is plenty of content to play, I have no idea what problem Linsey is talking about in her post because I’m not experiencing it and neither are the people in my guild. We do see a problem with new tiers.

one of the things i love(d) about this game was the fact that you could get max quality gear from any desired end-game activity: you could craft it, you could buy it with karma, you could buy it with dungeon tokens, or you could buy it with WvW tokens. so i really really really hope that this new level of gear is added to all those options, and not just to this new dungeon and/or the mystic crap hole.
If you can get it through all the major end game activities, great. if not? then i’m super bummed because i really liked this game and wanted to play it for a long time, but i won’t if i’m forced into some crap dungeon to get gear the gear i need for WvW.
and the worst part i’ve read so far is the dungeon specific condition “agony” with it’s associated required gear. that’s just about the worst and laziest mechanic ever invented, and i definitely won’t be taking part in that.

the wording definitely needs clarification, but i’ve always taken the “rarer mats” to mean one step above the mats inherent to the item being salvaged. in the case of exotics, there are no rarer mats above oric/ancient/gossamer unless ectos count also. If ectos don’t count and all kits have the same chance, i’d really like to know that.

P.S I’m very interested into why the current system has failed so miserably to the point of actually discouraging people from even attempting to get a legendary. As mentioned there are a small percent that want a legendary and an even smaller percent that have one. But we’re forgetting the majority of the playerbase who simply don’t have any motivation to begin the “journey”, which as a game designer I know I’d start to question exactly where I went wrong in my design :/
I’m one of those people with no desire to work toward a “legendary.” After looking over what would be required on the wiki, i don’t see anything fun or challenging about it, just a grind for gold and karma.
I figure if in a year i’m still playing this game i might have enough mats to make one, but by that time the system might be changed anyway, so i’m not too worried about it.
I am however going to try to work toward one of the more achievable mystic forge recipes requiring “only” a metric crapload of ori and lodestones.

I’m really surprised they allow this actually. They pulled so much from DAOC in the design of WvW, but the one thing they missed was the timer for quitting.
In DAOC you had to type /quit to exit the game, and there was a 20 second timer before the game would actually exit, which reset if you were attacked or entered combat.
Exiting the game in WvW should be out of combat only, just like using waypoints (which should also have a 20sec timer imo).

first noticed this the first time i went into the mad kings labyrinth, but now whenever i pan my camera below a certain angle, textures go transparent (see screenshot).
I’ve been running all graphics settings on max since release with no issues until now.
Graphics card is an Nvidia 460 GTX with the latest drivers.

yeah, the loot tables at high levels kinda suck in general. i haven’t looked forward to looting a chest since about lvl 12

It would be good to have some indication of the actual name of the guild (not just the emblem) that has a keep claimed. A tooltip on the map and the guild tag/name on the guards would be good.

WvW gear should at the very least have different appearances as you go up. right now the lvl 80 exotic badge gear looks exactly the same as the noob karma gear.
