So after the patch it looks like we have some hard choices to make.

We won’t be able to get bloodlust stacks and then swap out the stacking weapon and keep the stacks.

But, we’ll be able to run 2 on weapon swap sigils and have them both proc (assuming they’re different sigils).

So i’m thinking Sigil of Battle might be better than Sigil of Bloodlust, as long as you can reliably get 8 stacks of might (280 power) in the first few seconds of the fight.

Thoughts?

With 7 lvl 80s, laurels are now my main bottleneck for ascended gear. I imagine this is an even bigger problem for people who’s schedules don’t allow them to complete every single daily.

I have a few rings and weapon drops with stats i don’t need, so it would be nice to be able to salvage those as an alternative method to get laurels.

if you want to do more dps in addition to backline support, just remember you don’t have to pigeonhole yourself into the cookie cutter 0/0/10/30/30 cantrip build. it’s a solid build and a good place to start, but as you get better at positioning you can spec more for damage and still support just as effectively.

your main sources of support for your zerg are 1) your water fields and 2) your control skills (static field, unstable ground, frozen ground). these are just as effective with any other build, assuming you’re alive to deliver them.

The article says: “When you unlock a dye after the feature pack is released, all characters on your account will have unlimited access to that color.”

Didn’t see anything on: "already existing dyes on one character will be account bound.

Do we know if there is a chance for duplicate dyes again after this change? For example, say I have two avvies right now who have both unlocked the color “Unexciting Brown”. On patch day, one of those will get reverted to “unidentified”. Is there a chance that that un-id’ed dye could be Unexciting Brown again? Or am I guarenteed to get a new color every time I open an un-id’ed dye from here on out?

i’m assuming unid’ed dyes after the patch will pull from the same pool of colors regardless of what you have unlocked, so yes you could get “unexciting brown” again. your options will then be to sell it on the TP or recycle it in mystic forge toilet.

When the patch goes live, the price of UID dyes will plummet…not rise. You do understand that EVERY duplicated dye will be turned into a UID dye…the market will be flooded with them (I estimate my 8 characters will get between 20 and 30 UIDs when the patch goes live).

true, the market will be flooded right after the patch, but once all those dyes are sold, the price will climb back up since no more unid’d dyes will be dropping.

i see a lot of assumptions one way or the other, but really we have no idea.

If the ICD is per target that will be awesome as it will work well with Flame Burst (either from EA dodge or staff 3), Drake’s Breath, etc.

If the ICD is per spell cast, then that will just suck unless all you plan on doing is 1v1.

I am, so far, wholly disappointed with the new traits and how they will relate to staff. Besides making staff ele a pure healbot—I don’t see much viability for them in the future given these traits.

As it stands with what we know—I think the only viable staff ele build is going to be 0/0/30/30/10 with pure +healing. This just basically makes us a bunker.

But there are still unannounced details about the balance coming out, so who knows.

Krazy, i’m quoting you from another thread but wanted to post in this one since i think it’s more appropriate. I was inspired by your use of Elemental Surge and have been having a lot of fun learning new combos with it.

What do you think about a 30/0/0/10/30 staff build using blinding ashes and ES?

I dont think that will work very well. You would be forced to be in Fire and use them Arcane skills in Fire to get the Blind. Elemental Surge is rather weak and that does not change with this trait.

Maybe going with Focus offhand, Signets grant Fire Aura and such with Dagger or Scepter Main hand would be a better option to go with? Fire’s Embrace and Elemental Shielding could mean decent up time on Blind, Fire Shield and Protection. Shame that it’s just a 3second duration proc.

i disagree that elemental surge is weak. i was turned onto it via this thread and have been loving it. it’s quite powerful when used deliberately for the effect you want.

also this is a staff/wvw build. other weapon sets aren’t an option for my playstyle. and any trait/ability that requires me to get hit for it to work (e.g. fire’s embrace) is bad imo. i rely heavily on range and proper positioning to avoid getting hit if at all possible.

Losing stacks on weapons is going to kind of suck when you unequip but I honestly never go and get stacks that much anymore or I would get stacks but just keep that weapon on.

On-Kill sigils (those sigils which trigger when you kill something) have received an update as well. The functionality of each sigil has changed so that killing a player is worth five stacks of a sigil in any game mode, while killing a monster only grants one stack. This type of sigil will have more strict rules applied on them, so that a player will no longer be able to gain 25 stacks and then un-equip the sigil.

if you rotate attunements and skills properly, the cooldown is never really an issue. most weapon skills have cooldowns longer than 10s anyway.

the gear is just what i currently have…open to suggestions for updating it to work better with this build.

This is for WvW in T1 (zergy!) so the playstyle is generally supporting the commander pushes with fields and aoe dps.

A typical rotation on push would be static field on the enemy tank ball -> earth 2 -> water 4 -> arcane wave, giving our tanks frost aura and chilling the enemy. Post patch i would switch to fire before dropping arcane wave to apply aoe burning, blind, and vulnerability.

if i’m under pressure, arcane brilliance (in my own water field of course) and arcane shield in fire attunement cause aoe burning, blind, and vulnerability as well.

Any thoughts/suggestions/analysis appreciated!

balance doesn’t have to mean making all classes the same. maybe leave it at master and make it grant immunity to cripple/chill/imob while under the effects of protection. That would offer good synergy with Elemental Attunement, and would be an alternative to Rock Solid covering conditions not affected by stability.

Not sure if you actually read my quick explanation of what P2W really is. You should read it again, and see that every single example you posted is completely off base.

I’ll try to simplify it more by asking a single question. In Guild Wars 2, can you tell me what content, which gives large statistical advantages, is exclusive to “paying” customers over non-paying customers? The moment that you can answer this question, is the moment I’ll tell you GW2 is P2W.

Don’t be patronizing, I’m not an idiot.

You seem to be defining ‘P2W’ as a way for people to purchase exclusive items that is not otherwise obtainable by those who don’t. That is not necessarily true. Paying to win can also mean the person spending money is able to obtain said item faster or easier than someone who doesn’t. Basically it eliminates the time it takes for someone to obtain some end-game object, accelerating them to the ‘winning’ status.

So, by your definition of P2W, I cannot give you any example in this game because there aren’t any since gems can be bought with in-game currency. But if you would stop being so narrow-minded and open up to different interpretations of the phrase, maybe you can see where a lot of people are coming from when they say the gem store is P2W.

I’ll give you a short and simple scenario:
There are two people, Jane and Joe.
Joe started to play the game and decided he didn’t want to spend a single penny on gear, so he farmed currency for the next 3 months to buy his gear.
Jane started to play the game and decided it took too long to farm the currency, so she bought $100 worth of in-game currency and bought the SAME gear.

Jane just paid to win.

you have a strange definition of “win.” convenience, saving time, and and cosmetics are not winning. the only context in which the term “pay to win” is even relevant is in regard to stats.

if they fix all damage going through gates, whether by players or siege, i think that would be (obviously) logical and more balanced. that way a defending force could repair the gate from the inside without getting melted by aoe.

maybe adding a t3 upgrade to doors so they could go to fortified from reinforced would help also.

i’m one of those people that doesn’t eat food or adjust my build/utils, and autoattacks from max range because I DON"T CARE ABOUT PVE. the pve in this game is so easy you can do it AFK half the time and still succeed. the only time i do pve is to pass the time if i’m in queue for WvW, or if i just want to turn my brain off and get a few champ bags for salvage.

But in WvW it’s a different story entirely. Food/Oil up all the time, changing builds on the fly while running, Teamspeak, etc. etc.

Firstly, something that I’ve seen in more than one proposal and something that we just can’t do in our game, is the idea of consolidating maps or making larger maps. It is a problem on multiple fronts, but the most obvious issue is that we simply can’t fit more players onto a map than we already have, so even if we were to make a larger map, we couldn’t have a corresponding increase in the number of players on that map. Proposals that rely on that idea are simply untenable.

you can’t within the confines of the current game programming. However, if sufficient resources were dedicated to this endeavor, of course it would be possible. And the game would be better for it.

Also, making the maps larger does not imply that we would want correspondingly more players on the maps. Just increasing the distances between objectives would give more opportunity for open field clashes, and more value to waypointed keeps.

Edge of the Mists has a whole host of differences from the WvW maps that we built before launch. One of those differences is the number of waypoints. Not only does each side only have 1 waypoint, but they can’t even capture and use the waypoints at enemy keeps. Do you think that the amount of travel that you have to put in makes the maps feel better? Does it feel like there is a consequence for dying and that you can whittle down an opposing force?

I’m curious what your thoughts are and if you think it would make the fighting better or worse in the borderlands and EB.

ok here goes. waypoints in the current system don’t really matter because the zones are just way too small. the difference between waypointing to a keep and just running there is usually < 1 minute. A zerg with swiftness can do laps around EB in minutes.

In EotM, it only feels like a lot more running because the paths are so convoluted. I’m guessing they did this to make the zone feel bigger without actually making it bigger, maybe because of some tech limitation.

so my proposal is this: merge the 3 borderlands and EB into one huge zone, where the 3 borderlands are connected to EB at each spawn area (still not big enough imo but w/e). In order to get to an opposing servers BL, you’d have to run through your BL, through EB, and into their borderland. With this system, waypoints would really matter, and getting a waypoint in an enemy borderland would be a huge tactical advantage, not just a minor convenience saving 30s of running. By the same token, breaking an invading forces waypoint and sending them back their own borderland would be a decisive win for the defenders.

Obviously their server tech would need a massive overhaul to allow 4 maps worth of players into one zone, so i don’t really expect this to ever happen, but hey, it’s a thought.

quick idea to avoid counting AFKers supply: make a command like /ready which broadcasts a popup alert to everyone in the radius (or /squadready for everyone in a squad). When the player clicks “ready” on the popup it adds their supply to the total count, and obviously lets the commander know they are ready and not afk.
