Adding a rifle to this class would do exactly what specializations set out to do, bring a new play style to the class. Not improve the base class, no. But to bring a new play style to it.

Have you seen the Chronomancer reveal which is basically a Shatterer 2.0? Or the glorified Auramancer 2.0 Tempest Ele? ^^ At this point, saying sepcs add something new to the classes is basically lying to yourself… sadly.

They messed up the idea of bringing something new to each class badly with ele I’ll agree. While not a bad elite spec overall. It brought nothing new.. I agree.

Chronomancer I can’t speak too Much on, but reaper and Dragon Hunter did exactly what the elites were designed to do.

So one flopped . Chrono may have flopped, I can’t say to much again. And reaper and Dragon Hunter did very well..

None of this changes the fact that these elite specializations where designed to do exactly as I stated.

To say that the tempest and chronomancer didn’t meet the design, or your expectations is fine. But to say that the idea behind elite specializations no longer exists is wrong. My point about rifle thief elite spec. Still stands.

My excitement this morning when I woke up to new blog posts on the home page was unrivaled. Then to read the headlines and see what they’ve “announced” broke me.. I’m so sad right now. I just want to know something new about what’s coming.

My take on staff vs. Rifle

Just a quick typo aid for you, have a few grammar police on these forums. Line 1- thrones.

Also, I agree Rifle would be amazing. I WOULD LOVE IT IF RIFLE PLAYED LIKE NOVA IN HEROES OF THE STORM!!!!! I mean, I would just auto delete everyone on my account and just…play Nova. I’d buy a rename, I’d look for the armor, I’d PAY ANET SO MUCH! TAKE MY MONEY ANET! LEMME BE NOVA! Sorry…ahem. You didn’t see that.

Fixed, thank you!!!

My take on staff vs. Rifle

in Thief

Posted by: meeflak.9714

meeflak.9714

This is literally a copy and paste from my post in the heart of thorns forum page thread that already existed. Thought it was more suited here so here it is

Staff sounds pretty amazing thematically I agree with this point. Pretty true. I’d love to have it for the overall feel. However!!! I’d much prefer thief to get rifle, we need it! Remember elite specializations, are meant to bring the weak areas of the class forward. To add an additional playstyle to those we already have for each profession.
Base thief is amazing in melee combat… Perfect almost. I’m a horrible thief, but there’s still very few classes I find even close as fun/rewarding to thief in melee range. Even the warrior. Or my personal favorite other then thief, ranger..Lol..(srs melee ranger so much fun)
Thief doesn’t have any good Ranged damage/support/cc/Condi/aoe. Nothing really.

Adding a rifle to this class would do exactly what specializations set out to do, bring a new play style to the class. Not improve the base class, no. But to bring a new play style to it.
Like what stof said. We’d (possibly) have to gut our melee damage Or survive ability to spec for Ranged. And what’s wrong with that? Anet said there will be benefits to using the elite spec. In some areas, and using the base class in others.
Like I said thematically melee staff sounds amazing… It sounds like so much fun … But to me most of that will come from the animations, the feel. The theme. What most people have been saying will make it good, but this doesn’t mean it’s the better option .
Rifle can be amazing too! And with the base thief we have now, adding a rifle will be more then just a ’re skinned melee thief with Pretty animations. It will be a new thief with pretty (hopefully) animations, themes, and mechanics and functionality that the thief is currently lacking..
That’s my take on why I want rifle. Even though staff sounds amazing…
P.s. I’m bad at owning my statements. I’m speaking for myself and myself alone not on behalf of all of tyria. Please don’t yell at me

Edit: I’m not finished with you yet!!!! (I have more to say)
Lets take a look at all existing professions for a sec

Ele: amazing Ranged /amazing melee
Warrior: amazing melee/pretty good ranged(shoutbowhambowect)
Mesmer: Pretty awesome melee/ pretty awesome ranged
Ranger: amazing ranged/ pretty good melee
Engineer: idk what to say here. Amazing ranged/ amazing In melee range Anyway? Idk. They good alright
Guardian: amazing melee/poor ranged. (Dragonhunter fixed this)
Necromancers: lol.
Thief: best melee imo imo/ not to good ranged.
Every class has a pretty good balance here. Thief does not. Thief needs rifle. Thief wants staff. Thief can have staff next time. I’d rather take what we need now

Seriously, why rifle? Just to get an extra 300 range? For what? Shooting people from walls one bullet at a time?

And to do that you have to gut your melee capabilities or survivability by taking an elite spec oriented for ranged combat?

ArenaNet has, thus far, shown themselves to be either unwilling or unable to make pistol mainhand, or the supposed ‘go-to Thief ranged set, P/P’, not absolutely abhorrently awful. They are married to the incredibly weak Vital Shot as the weapon’s autoattack and have done nothing to address the fact that Vital Shot deals absolutely pathetic damage, both Power-wise and Malice-wise, or that in order to do any damage whatsoever on P/P, every last single point of Initiative you have needs to be dumped into Unload. The P/P set’s skillbar may as well look like “___, ____, Unload, ____, ___”. It’s been this way for three years. The only trait which made the pistols set even halfway tolerable, Ricochet, was a casualty of the Specializations update, leaving P/P to deal weaker damage than the Shortbow, which already deals exceptionally weak damage for a ranged option and is only saved by/taken for its excellent utility, and also dealing weaker damage than every other ranged option every other class in the game has.

I would rather fight with the Guardian’s scepter than with P/P on the Thief. The P/P set is that putrid, and ArenaNet is that hellbent on keeping it that way.

So yes. I will take a specialization with a rifle and gun-related traits and a distance combat-adjusted tweak to the profession mechanic over l33t h@xx0rz n!nj@. I can already do l33t h@xx0rz n!nj@ with a D/D set and ninja-themed armor we already have in the game. I still cannot make a dangerous rifleman in GW2, on any class, with any trait set-up. It is impossible to make a powerful rifleman; the Warrior has absolutely zero support for its rifle and the rifle itself, while solid and fairly sensible, has little play to it, another weak autoattack (which pretty much always ruins a weapon) and no real ability to pressure enemies, especially compared to its longbow, and the less said about the schizophrenic disaster that is the Engineer’s ‘rifle’, the better.

Do I need a stationary 1200-range boomheadshot gun on the Thief? No – but then, I never figured we were going to get one. Is it going to ‘gut my melee capabilities or survivability’ to take a rifle? Not really – S/P does its job just peachy-keen fine with nothing but Critical Strikes and Trickery, it doesn’t need the one weak trait still in the game to support sword to be everything I already make it. I’ll just use the rifle when I currently switch over to P/P long enough to dump Unload at things while waiting for melee to be bearable again in whatever fight I’m fighting.

You think that all there is to any potential rifle set is stand-stock-still plinking? Cool – keep thinking that. If it would even remotely help I could post at least half a dozen different Thief rifle sets with different themes, mechanics, and options for play. Some at 1200, some at 900, some even at 600 if you really wanted. None of that matters, though. My take on what Thief rifle could be doesn’t matter – only ArenaNet’s does. Provided we get the rifle and not “Let’s transplant the Rev’s staff over to the Thief! Huzzah, elite spec done!”

+1 agreed. Calm down though too angry. Got me all worked up too.

How does a druid not fit in with the theme of our current ranger? Like what??

Rangers are very much in tune with nature, look at spirits. Look at things like entangle, healing spring, the pet mechanic, ect.

Giving them a staff , and seemingly the ability to be even more in tune with nature. ( referring to the skill from announcement trailer where the ranger casts those vines forwards the enemy,) makes absolute sense.

Saying the “stick” as you refer to if, isn’t ranged is most likely wrong… The skill they featured was even ranged. And I’m sure being a ranger elite spec. The staff will be ranged as well.

I dint understand what your using to base your argument off.

Shouldn’t all Attunement Overloads have a break bar to provide some sort of protection from getting interrupted, maybe even have a shorter break bar(is that even possible) if the channel is only a few seconds.

We will just have to wait until tomorrow, there’s always a chance they didn’t talk about those mechanics for the other overload, there could be a trait that provides stability when channeling, who knows. Hopefully they have something like a grandmaster or master that allows you to get the break bar for all attunments

For those of you who don’t know, the current implentation of tempest’s new f1 skill is the ability to overload an attunement to gain access to pulsing skills that correlate with that attunement. Here is the catch 22, if you leave that attunement after it is overloaded, you will be locked out of that attunement.

Here is a couple problems with this idea. Sometimes an ele may unintentionally stay in the attunement too long and lose access to key skills they may need at clutch moments.

Another problem is that the overload skills can probably be interrupted, making your reason for staying in that attunement a waste and locking you out anyways.

Keep in mind, this is only my assumption of how overload will work.

If anet wants to promote single attunement play they can’t cause singularity to crutch the elementalist.

My proposed changes will make single attunement feel worthwhile and won’t prevent them from accessing water skills if they need to throw a heal down or air skills if they need to throw some cc down.

Singularity-This skill will function different from before. Now, if the elementalist stays in an attunement for more than 10 seconds, the skills in that attunement will have a reduced recharge of 25%. This skill will be affected by other reduced cooldown traits. For example, if you have -20% fire recharge from a trait, it will calulate that, then reduce that by 25%.

Yes, that means you potentionally have 15s meteors or 24s healing rains.

Overload-this now becomes a grandmaster trait that procs automatically after you reach the overload threshold. Overload fire, overload water, overload air, overload earth.

Additionally, players will not be locked out of that attunement if they need to switch out of it.

I feel this would more effectively promote single attunement play, while not crippling the concept itself.

I don’t think you understood the way overloading works, or if you even read the blog post or the tth article..

“Sometimes, an ele might unintentionally stay In an attunment too long and lost access to key skills”. What are you trying to say here ? Overloading an attunment is by the choice of the player. After the player has stayed in water long enough. They will have access to the water overload ability. If they use it. That attunment goes on CD. It’s the players choice to use it or not. The amount of time you spend in it doesn’t matter. If you dint use it and swap to another sttunment, your CD will be as it would on the base. Class. The only way the ele will lose access to abilities is if the player activated the skill themselves then swapped to another attunment, that’s the players choice.

And about channeling skills being interrupted, I agree that will get annoying. But it’s on the player to know when to use the skill at a time where it won’t be wasted. Every mechanic needs counter play. And this doesn’t break the mechanic in anyway, it just required more situational awareness .

I predict the specialisation will be called Berserk or Berserker, and they’ll get Torch.

Torch!!! HAHAHAHAHA so anet will screw 3 classes with HOT if thats the case.

Three ? I can’t even think of one. Unless you’re referring to mesmer and ele for getting off hands.

If you are then I really feel like you didn’t read up on anything that came out of there information reveals. I can’t think of a single person who thought shield was bad after they released the information, unless it was about just the look/appeal of carrying around a shield.

The same complaint was made for ele warhorn. “If I can’t use bolt on my ele then tempest sucks!” Is about the majority of complaints I see. On top of the legitimate complaint that ele really could use another good main Hand.

I don’t see anything wrong with shield or warhorn. People just complain because there roles / playstyle over existing professions isn’t to appealing, or viable throughout most of the game. (Even with that there’s Still exceptions) but none of us know exactly what’s coming with these elite specs until we get that information from a net them selves.

(sorry for the small picture, pulled it off of google just now)

Sure will love when I need to heal and am locked out of water or when I need to do damage and will be locked out of fire / air, sounds super!

No good ranged single target weapon.

i assume you believe that scepter does not fill that void? yes i know its shortcomings, and that it’s heaviest damaging abilities are very avoidable, but at base level it is ranged and it is single target.

I said good, scepter is lousy ATM

If it’s got good ranged damage, it’ll probably be very heavily gated by huge cooldowns.

I really encourage y’all to turn into Points of Interest on Friday on our Twitch channel. They’ll be showing the warhorn and skills and all that good stuff, and then you can better get a view of how it works as the Elementalist’s elite specialization.

We don’t dislike The specialization, we dislike The choice for The new weapon. It’s a bad choice, a poor choice. It has nothing to do with the new mechanics.

It is just that The warhorn is simply not a very interesting weapon, most players dislike it on most classes. Oh, The skills are not The issue, it is the weapon itself. It’s just not “sexy”, especially when compared to other more interesting weapons.

I think you guys failed on that (poor) choice for our weapon.

“Our” weapon isn’t a fair thing to say. Neither is “we” Thematically the warhorn has the ability to fit perfectly with a tempest. Storm caller. Whatever. And it’s “appeal” is going to be relative to the individual. If this weapon does some pretty awesome stuff then hey. Its awesome

And please tell us. What you mean by " New mechanics" what new mechanics do you know of that this particular warhorn will be synergizing with ?

We have no clue…… We don’t know…. It’s very un reasonable to say this weapon doesn’t work with game mechanics, and should not be called poor till Friday

Warhorns are usually passive with boons, so that’s why people don’t like them much.

People want a weapon that does actual damage, such as an axe, pistol, or a sword. We don’t know what the actual skills will be, but i seriously doubt it’s going to be anything like these other off-hand weapons. At least with the Mesmer’s shield, it does pretty amazing damage skills, but if this new warhorn is anything like current warhorns, then it’s going to be useless.

Look at what your saying though. You countered your own argument. Shield on most classes is defensive is it not? Very low dps if any. And here we have chronomancer with a spec that will have the shield doing a good chunk of damage.

They took a passive weapon . Made it dps . There’s nothing saying the same can’t be done for the ele and warhorn.

All this warhorn QQ is driving me insane. We have absolutely zero information about it… Remember mesmer shield QQ? Then they came out and showed it off and people were like “omg that’s amazing” ..

Give them the chance guys. We literally have no information to make an argument against warhorn . It could be anything. We just don’t know

Not gonna argue here since you’re right for the most part, however you’re overestimating the hype for Mesmer shield quite a bit. Two new skills with high CD aren’t that much to be excited about (although they’re not bad).
People are hyped about Continuum Shift.

Concerning weapon skills however, Elementalists are already better off with their attunement mechanics.

Btw:
Is it already confirmed that Warhorn will be offhand? Haven’t seen anyone considering it mainhand. Just saying.

No it’s not confirmed. We have no idea, again. It could even be a stand alone weapon that slots the warhorn in your off hand and has a mechanic similar to light on thief . We have no clue. I don’t see the teaser pic holding a main hand, and it does appear that the warhorn is In the off hand " left-hand" but all speculation. We just don’t know

Because warhorns are lame. It doesn’t inspire combat like an off-hand sword or axe would. If i could sum it up, people don’t want a “passive” weapon.

What if it’s offensive? What makes it a dedicated “passive” weapon. There’s no way of knowing if it will be passive or not until they realease more information about it

Well, i’m only speculating, based off the current warhorns in the game. There’s only 2 skills for it, and it’s obvious that the warhorn will be about blowing the horn which is probably a boon skill.

I disagree. For example look at ranger. It has a boon skill yes. But it also has a pure damage attack too. With a pretty cool effect

I agree that most wsrhorn stats have been passive. But we have already seen what They’ve been doing with there elite specs and the revenant as well. I think it’s very pre mature to say this will be a passive boon applying weapon .

Lets hold out till Friday before we riot.

I really encourage y’all to turn into Points of Interest on Friday on our Twitch channel. They’ll be showing the warhorn and skills and all that good stuff, and then you can better get a view of how it works as the Elementalist’s elite specialization.

Please guys listen to gaile, this could be amazing. Thematically I already feel it Is amazing.

Only a net can give us the information to make an argument for or against the warhorn.

They’ve already shown they have some pretty good tricks up there sleeves. Let’s give it a shot.

You should never get your hopes up from data mining, this is the exact same reason a net doesn’t announce anything until its “ready”. Unless it comes from them themselves, there’s no way one can say they didn’t deliver on what they said was coming

“Once you get people expecting one thing then give them something else, a lot of them will be annoyed”

^ that was the fault of the players. Never once did arena net say hey ele’s you’ll be getting sword. I’m sure the mesmer for example, had tons of different ideas being worked on for what weapon they will Get until the decision to Give them the shield was finalized

The players can get upset with the weapon they got because of reasons like, it doesn’t fit the class,we don’t need another off hand, sword would be so cool.. whatever. But by no means can they get upset that they didn’t get what they expected. Data mining isn’t concrete, nor is it official, and really, isn’t a legitimate way of obtaining information anyway.

It’s silly to see people getting upset they didn’t get what anet had lead them to believe was there weapon.

On another note. I’m super excited to see warhorn!!! =) nighttwin was right, we will be getting 8 new 4-5 skills. That’s still pretty awesome. And we have no idea how they will work, nor do we know what utility skill type we are getting or the synergies between the two! Don’t let that hype for ele die off just yet! We still have a lot to learn (;

I feel like all the negative feedback to the warhorn is unwarranted. We dint know anything about the spec. And unlike any other class to get an offhand, we will be getting skills for every attument , well already be getting more skills then any other class would with a mainhand, Idk. I’m not worried about it.

Ugh, why did I read this. Now I won’t be surprised when I go and watch the replay.

I guess I will Chronomance my way back in time.

Lol I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to spoil anything*!!!! It was just such exciting news, literally restored all hype to see arena net take there community so seriously.

I had my doubts going into this expansion, and even though some of the news has been a tad too slow, it’s refreshing to see them take everything we say to heart like that.

I mean we literally just finished the beta weekend ( I didn’t personally participate) and all the complaints of low dps staff, ect. Where already answered.

If it’s taking them this long to release info because they are putting this much care Into all of there desicions, then by all means take your time!

This , ontop of the pre purchase community address, and and the overall quality it looks like this content is being created with , I can honestly say again that I’m excited about this expansion

I feel like this kind of care they are putting into it is going to make for a well polished addition to gw2

Arena net , thank you for including weapon swapping on the revenant. This was needed

Although you weren’t required to use the weapon designed around a specific legend, it felt like using say, the staff on shiro. Or vise versa, took away from the feeling that legends role was supposed to fill. Adding weapon swapping to match the ability to channel two legends was the last thing I needed to be hyped for this class.
It always felt to me that no weapon swapping made the class feel even more locked into a particular build based off the weapon/legend you were channeling .

So yeah. Thank you lots !!!

As a community. We’ve had some good things to complain about over the Years, and we’ve provided nearly as much feedback as possible. And to see arenanet handle our complaints and recommendations in such a mature and fair way is amazing to see.

I was upset for a while at the state of the game . But it’s good to see the game is in good hands .

As long as all players that have been playing 2+ years are considered ‘noobs’. (Check posting history.)

I, then, am merely a neophyte! Lol.

That doesn’t matter. His time in game matters. I’ve been playing everyday since launch and my first post was only a year ago. He said he quit for A while. Game time and experience Is what will dictate if you’re a noob or not

I’m like 90% sure that HoT will remove the last few remnants of underwater content.

It has been removed from PvP, WvW, all starting zones, and a few mid level zones already. Additionally underwater weapons have not been added to weapon sets for over a year now.

The only thing left is the last few mid to high level zones that still contain some water. These will be drained, frozen, or just removed. I am not, however, sure of what they will do with HotW or the underwater fractal. The fractal they might just remove, but I can’t see them removing an entire dungeon without a pretty big community backlash, unless they add in new dungeons as well.

No . What your saying isn’t even possible. Idk why a net would remove all that content for really no reason at all. Look at the straights of devastation. Look at personal story.

I can’t think of anything more upsetting then removing uw combat from the game “just because”

Lore wise even, it’s a ridiculous notion. Quaggan . Largos. On and on. Not going to Happen

Need to make Support give credit

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: meeflak.9714

meeflak.9714

Support roles get rewarded the same as DPS roles, Condition Damage Roles etc but all roles are required to do some sort of damage to at least one enemy in order to get a reward. This is for both Dynamic events & PvP.

Perhaps more context is needed in your post for me to fully understand what you mean precisely, but as a general rule, you only need one or two hits per mob or enemy player, and you get credit on their death, which equals reward whatever your role is.

He’s going under the assumption that since Revenant apparently have defined roles based on the legend used, the entire system in the game that tracks participation should be overhauled to give players who want to heal the zerg the entire fight credit for the event.

And to add onto what I said, the OP doesn’t understand the impact his suggestion would have. It would require an overhaul in the participation tracking like I mentioned but also require an overhaul in how scaling is done.

I actually think what he’s talking about comes from the poi from last week., where Collin said they are bringing support roles into a more defined position in hot. And will quite possibly be required for harder content

With all the over-use of CCs in some places, over-use of insta-gibs in others, there is just no incentive to run a tank or a healer. You have nothing to gain and a lot to lose.

GW2 will never, without very significant changes, support Trinity play, nor should it.

Tens of thousands of players, like myself, would run to the hills if strong Trinity was implemented.

I don’t think that anyone is arguing for a strong trinity. I would love a weak trinity where supportive play (damage mitigation, buffs, debuffs, control, etc) is actually a rewarding experience, instead of just a weight on your group’s speed run.

Silverwastes is actually a pretty good example of this in the live game. I love playing it on my zerker longbow ranger, but I also enjoy keeping people at high(ish) health and condi-free on my support shout warrior and pumping out heal/bringing people up on my Bloodmagic Necromancer… and it actually is helpful to the group and is somewhat necessary.

This completely. Support roles have been pushed so far to the side, with the expetion is of platinums idea of it. That players who would like to engage In those roles feel punished because there is no rewarding feeling in playing those roles , the game as it is now just doesn’t have a use for it. So it doesn’t have a use for those players.

The content in this game should not be so easy that pve content can be rolled over in just a few minutes while using half of the combat system while the rest of it just sits there. All classes being able to support all roles doesn’t make for a strong trinity. It makes for a better layered combat system.

Zerker armor should be a high-risk, high-reward proposition. The Reward has always been there, but the risk never has been.

Hopefully, the Expansion will fix that somewhat.

After 2 years of same dungeon content of course players will easily overcome any content with ease.

The longer you play content the lower the risk.

The ease came from updates that made zerker too strong and Dr emphasized other builds in the game. Dungeon runs took a lot longer and usually ended up with a lot more failures back near launch. Yes partly because players didn’t know well what they were doing. But also because dps wasn’t scaled so poorly.

When the ferocity patch came in. It was extremely noticeable that dps had just became the king. Ferocity was broken. Dungeon run times decreased dramatically because people where just rolling through the content. No body los’d every fight. Or stacked . Because zerkers melted before the could get there damage off.

We want to see content that brings this combat system out of the state its in.
