^ i would have preferred the gap closer removal to damage nerf. So its hard to pull off but rewarding.
i agree with a lot of that apart from the Area of effects thing, i really dont have a problem letting go of my right mouse dropping and aoe and holding right click again. And i dont think keyboard turning should ever be viable, or just letting your skills auto home in on people heartseeker im looking at you.
Nothing more annoying than a warrior or thief blipping in while you are in the middle of a fight with someone while stunbreakers are down and instantly killing you from 60% health.
I would like to see them increase the range on camera i usually like to zoom out quite far , makes it hard to see people coming up behind you. Also camera on range while downed seems even worse for me most of the time.
might just be your spec and runes, although i haven’t tried it on the NPC’s. I usually see myself getting hit for over 6k when below 50%hp
You’re damage is a bit low did you use runes of ogre , beserker necklace? i can hit maybe 3-4 times harder than you.

its fine in tournament but in 8v8 its impossible to res people without dieing yourself, even from full hp which is about 22k for me.
Seriously guys, learn to play the game a little, and things will work itself out. Here’s a little encounter I had with a poor player a few days ago, when my Thief was still using Dagger MH (paraphrased, of course)-
Idiot: “GG HS spamming me to death, noob”
Me: “You were using Dagger storm, and I’m D/P and Shbow, heartseeker is literally the only non autoattack skill I have that will hit you.”
Idiot: “I’m surprised you can type while you’re spamming 2 so much”
Me: “Regardless how you feel ‘Using the only ability i have that will hit you’ is pretty tactically sound in anyones book”
Idiot: Repeated nonsense about HS spamming, etc…There’s 2 factors here. When you don’t understand how an ability works, its OP. I thought Mes was OP, until I learned how the class worked. I thought Frenzy->bull rush-> hundred blades was OP until I realized packing a stun break was more important that going glass cannon. As people learn, HS will become more understood, and people will learn its counters.
Factor 2 is that people parrot everything they hear, especially bad players. “I’ve been killed my HS spam, and everyone says its OP, so it must be!”. Seriously, the game hasn’t been out a month. Give it some time before you cry about how OP everything you don’t understand yet is.
I have played all the classes now apart from necro ( dont really like their play style).
And i can say by far the easiest classes ive played are guardian and thief, anyone thinking they dont need an adjustment is kidding themselves. i also played all the beta’s. I was originally going to go for thief as my main from BWE1 but this is just a boring play style to me now, i preferred the stealthy type sword dagger thief. I have used both pistol whip build and Heart strike build.
I would like to see someone dodge my stealth into immobilise quickness pistolwhip. Even if they break it they have either already taken too much dmg and i autohit them to death while throwing dazes at them with skill 4 or restealth and repeat without quickness. Also most immobilise breakers have a longer cooldown than devourer poison. Rangers root break for example is on a 60 second cd 48 seconds while traited. Thiefs poison is 45 seconds and 36 seconds traited.
Even if the enemy breaks my immobilise like a “skilled” player and starts hitting me, pistol whip makes you evade all attacks while its being cast. Also the only class that can catch you if you want to escape is another thief.
I dont think a big nerf is in order but one of the aspects needs to be toned down either the great mobility/gap closer , high burst or the fact most thief ability’s make you evade attacks.
Or they could give every class a reliable immobilise breaker or make stun breakers remove immobilise too. Hell you cant even turn while immobilised to use a stun or knockback so you might as well be stunned.
Not all the classes have counters to thiefs, mesmers and warriors are really good against thiefs because mesmers can go invisible themselves while doing dmg through images and warriors have shield block endure pain along with nice damage.
Do you use the signet of stone for your ranger infuser? or the signet of renewal.

They do need a bit of a buff in my opinion, i played ele in beta and a bit in release and it feels like everything hits for much less than it did, also did they nerf the eles glyph heal?
If you decide to use scepter dagger, start in air knock them down with skill 5, switch to fire do dragon tooth phoenix fire grab, then switch to water kite a few seconds, then to earth use the knockdown repeat. If that doesn’t work use ride the lightning to get away and do it again.
if you un-target the enemy, i usually use the escape button , ride the lightning will send you in the direction you are facing. also turn off auto targeting or it will just re-target them when they hit you.
they should stop the auto balance when near victory, some people just give up leave then you get the match loss because you got switched 20 seconds before winning.
Shotbow does much more damage, also with the crits chance to bleed it does even more than longbow because it crits more often. I use shortbow in both pve and pvp. For pve i use shortbow/longbow so i can do the aoe, i should probably just switch to shortbow ,axe/horn though.
I do take longbow for aoe in WvW where the weapon really does its best.

At the minute no unless you join a empty Spvp game and get them to join you. I heard they are going to add duelling not sure when.
I look forward to fighting warriors on my ranger its probably the most equal fight i have. Although if they dont take endure pain + the talent that procs it when they get low its pretty much a win for me no matter what. Unless its in a team fight then you can just get instant killed by a frenzy warrior without your stun breaker ready.
Yeah, at this point it’s almost always immobilizes that get me killed in PvP. Really think this should be changed.

First. Now Signet of Renewal is the only viable skill to remove conditions, since bear pet is for tanking and rather bad in PvP.
Yeh i agree with this , for people who say use a bear, you need a dps pet or one with snares for pvp, i use wolf , black widow, for 2x immobilise a stun and a fear. Also my pet if he actually hit the target most of the time would do about a third of my damage. he hits for 2.5k without any points in improving my pet.
when it says 22 hits its like hundred blades, thats him casting it 3 times with quickness, and skill 2 teleports him instantly to your location , which immobilises you, then procs the immobilise poison locking you down even longer, also pistol whip does a short stun and makes him evade all attacks , meaning no1 can peel him by attacking him or using a knockback.
This is pretty much how a fight in 2-3 seconds goes if my one immobilise removal is on CD, if pistol whip didn’t make them evade all attacks while casting it I could use my shortbow skill to daze them like I do to warriors.
i would just remove the video , or make it private at least till they fix it.
I did feel I was shoehorned into a more bursty spec toughness as a non plate wearer just doesn’t seem do much , i tried a build with permanent regen + traits to improve it, 2k toughness and could still be dropped in a few seconds. I think its just due to the fact ranger greatsword does really low damage atm so i couldn’t do enough pressure to make people play more defensively.
almost 20, ive been doing a lot of pve though.
A is in my opinion the biggest problem of the class right now. We’re missing out on 1000s of damage per fight simply because our pet is pausing before each attack and missing moving targets. Should be a priority fix in my opinion.
yeh, or they could fix it by putting the damage from the pet back onto the ranger so pets are just for the utility they bring , and making a new trait in the beast master line something along the line of you do xx% less damage but your pet does xx% more dmg and runs quicker. Or do the reverse of that and put it in the skirmishing line , would make some nice unique builds for rangers.
Maybe if players can stop their urge to solo 1v1 of either Thief/Mesmer this topic would not exist. They are independently strong like most classes build around DPS for quick secure on kills. But they are top priority to get focused on in team fights 75%+ of times I have experienced because they can take down important units quick and vice versa. So if you fight in a team, Mesmer/Thieves are already nerfed in my opinion.
It doesn’t really say much for the class balance if you HAVE to make them your focus, atleast they can stealth back behind their group if they are focused.
I think think thiefs get to make mistakes too often without it killing them.
Oh that guy dodged my pistol whip ability never mind it makes me evade all attacks while casting it. oh no i got bursted down because i spammed heart strike from too far away, no problem i go invisible when i reach 25% hp.
Every other attack of the thief just seems to make them evade or become immune to some form of damage.
If im fighting a team that has more than one thief im pretty dead, remove one immobilise with signet every 50 seconds but the cooldown for immobilise is much less, so if one immobilises me and i get out the other one does the same and i die instantly.
My build has pretty high toughness and 19k hp got 20 points put into it and 20 into power. he must have just been glass cannon. When i got to the point to start fighting with the group he already had two swordsmen up.
I wish i had a screenshot but i took about 11k dmg from 2 swordsman hits, i was pretty shocked myself tbh when it happened.
I never die to warriors because rangers have a nice stun breaker which also leaps you backwards at the same time. Immobilise pistol whip on the other hand is very hard to get out of also the skill 2 teleport with sword is a pain. I dislike thiefs who say dodge it, because for most classes its impossible to dodge an instant cast poison that can be applied through an auto-hit or even worse if they start from stealth with shadow refuge.
I dont think its right that ive had to make my build specifically for taking out thiefs and then its still a up hill battle, because the other classes are much much easier to deal with.
Thiefs are by far the best roamers in my opinion with the 25% run speed signet and good burst they are a must have almost.
Yeh i agree, i try and avoid this map whenever possible or if i do get on it i don’t bother going into the water.
Our elites are a bit lackluster, some of the other classes are to. But some are just much better. I mostly use my elite as a second way of gaining swiftness.
Can you increase spirits range with traits? if not the range is just so terrible you are making your group very susceptible to aoe because they have to hug the spirits that die in 1-2 autohits.
I think the biggest problem with most our utilities is they NEED to have traits spent on them just to be viable.

You should also take a look at cone targeted ability’s like the drakes lightning one or moa’s screech they miss 100% of the time because the enemy just walks past them or to the other side which makes them miss or just cancel the ability.
This is even more of a problem in Spvp, maybe you could make the pet lock on to the enemy when they cast it and turn to face them constantly while casting it.
You are probably right about the phantasm part malakree, it was a swordsman that was hitting me that hard , might have been something else in the group throwing confusion on me too. If they buffed rangers greatsword damage a bit i think i would be on par with mesmers because shortbow is really bad at hitting people when they stealth because it starts shooting at the floor or over their head, and greatsword cleave would be nice to hit them while invisible or cleave down images.
For Spvp i take Shortbow and sword/axe in pvp. Nothing makes me feel better than reflecting the thief’s elite dagger spin back at him and getting the killing blow.
It really revolves around quickness , taking quickening zephyr and also quickness on pet switch, if i can get behind someone unnoticed they are pretty dead.
To counter thief’s ive been forced to take the utilities lightning reflexes and signet of renewel as a gap closer and way to remove poison immobilise. I use rampage as one i just think it surpasses our other elites in most ways.
For pets i use wolf and spider, wolf does good damage and has a stun/aoe fear, spider has 2x root which is also nice for keeping things still to flank.
Pve i do the same but short-bow, longbow. The longbow is mostly for aoe and the knockback.
For a heal i use troll unguent, I find im moving to much to use the healing spring.
Says Thiefs and Mesmers are OP, but doesn’t say anything about bunker Guardians.
Pretty much invalidates the whole thing.
I dont have much problem with killing guardians apart from retaliation ones, if i die to them its usually 50% of my health taken by retaliation back to myself. i do agree though they could use a defensive tone down.
I find mesmers and thief’s very annoying as a ranger but mainly because heartseeker is an amazing gap closer and most of rangers CC is a cripple which is completely negated when they leap 10ft forwards. And they have really good immobilise with poison which is hard to deal with because rangers have 1 condition removal on a 48 second CD when traited.
And with 2-4 stacks of confusion on me with short bow i could down myself from full hp in a few seconds if i didn’t stop attacking. Not attacking is hard when illusions are hitting me for 5k each though.
Also every Spvp i get into has 4 thiefs a side ive seen more and sometimes i see less.
