Gaaaaaahhhhh! Remove the Engineer? What the Kitten??? Finally a class comes along that is challenging to learn to play and we have to fight for it’s existance? What with the tools and the turrets and the flamethrowers (ah, the glory of a good ol’ mob roast!) and rocket launch guns and rocket boots and net shooters and elixirs … really??? Get rid of them? Wow. My head just exploded. I’m done.

LF casual friendly guild on Devona's Rest

I would like to join a guild that is friendly, with more of a casual ‘for fun’ attitude than hardcore. I’ve mostly soloed the PvE content up to Orr and would love to learn how to run the dungeons with a team that I know, instead of a PUG.

I completed three of the four GW expansions (never got to finish Nightfall) and have played GW2 since launch weekend. I’m not hardcore by any means – I like to play and explore the world and just have fun. I have an odd schedule, playing mostly weekend mornings, but when I’m on I’m on for a few hours. I would really like to get to know a good group of players and run some of the group content, learning and then helping.

My current primary is Tabernathy – please give me a whisper if you see me online.

Thanks!

Thanks for the info! I think I’m going to wait until I can do the block of ten story missions at one time so I can keep track of what’s going on easier. The little summary on the character panel only hits the high points – lost my warband and didn’t know where they all went!

I must have been sleeping when it happened, but somehow my warband of me, Euryale, and Soure Doomsday was paired down to just me an Euryale at some point in the last few personal story missions. I can’t find any mention in the few sites I’ve checked to see what happened to him and when. Huh.

Hi! I’m looking for a casual, fun guild on Devona’s. I’ve levelled a Ranger and have a number of toons in the 20-30 level range, mostly playing PvE. I’ve soloed a little WvW and have tried to PUG a few dungeons (with mixed success). I would be interested in helping with dungeon runs, PvE exploring, and some WvW too. I’d love to join an active guild that’s just out to have fun.

My primary toon is Toran Allaires but I’m levelling Tabernathy (charr warrior) now. Please feel free to contact me in-game if you see me and I’ll try to do the same for the players listed in your above post.

Thanks!

I’ve played a LOT of these games (GW1, DDO, LOTRO, DCUO, CoH, CoV, WoW, CO, WXYandZ) and this game by far gives me the most choices for playing the game different ways. Dungeons require a team, WvW works solo or with an army, beating event bosses needs a good sized group (usually), events may or may not need a group, maps can be explored solo – there’s just so much to do and so many ways to do it in this game. I have not yet hit a wall where I say to myself, “Self, there’s no way you can do anything more on this toon unless you get a group – I’m stuck.” Not once.

Player homes not worth development effort

There was an added feel of realism to the housing system used in LOTRO, the first MMO (actually ONLY MMO) that I played that had a system. As someone posted above, LOTRO had it’s strengths and weaknesses – the way LOTRO implemented it would put it in the solo as opposed to sociable content. What I loved about it was the different maps each neighborhood had, depending on race, and each house occupying a different plot of land – if you wanted a waterfall view, you had to visit a number of neighborhoods to find one where this piece of land was up for sale. But yeah, you could make a case that it was more Sims than having value to the game.

The LOTRO Guild Halls were another thing though. Our guild had many private parties there and it was awesome to see our entire guild together at one time, drinking from a beer keg, yakking it up – pretty fun.

What I would like to see, if they implement housing, would be a reason to have a house that goes beyond cosmetics or being a gem sink. Maybe something like staying in an inn, ala WoW, where you get a buff for either experience or something the longer your toon stays in his house prior to going back out and adventuring. Also having a number of crafting stations available, but not a crafter, which would be in line with your toon buying crafting equipment so he could craft at home.

Also, maybe have an instances and non-instanced part of the house, a foyer open to the public in which you can mount your trophies or suits of armor (as someone mentioned above) and then the rest of the house which is yours. We could go visit the showroom of some of the more elite players on the server and admire their rare trophies. I’d love to see housing used as another element to round out my toon’s character in relation to the rest of the world.

You may officially call me an idiot. This was part of the new update that added waypoints to Straits – I had already done it (thought I did and was surprised to see it showing as one waypoint less than complete). I went back and got it but didn’t get the reward because I already got it, prior to the update. I got to lay off the Jack Daniels.

I’d be kind of cool with the agro dropping way down when my 80 is in a lower level zone. If I’m a 6th level bandit and I see Judge Dredd with a stick coming at me, I’m going to go find my little level 6 hideout and wait for better weather. It’s just annoying to have to fight EVERYTHING in the zone just like I was a lowbie. Pappa Death should be given some slack for slumming.

It is too funny reading the ubers trashing the complainers – holy cow, can you guys be more cliche???

I have to wonder what the point of doing the dailies are? Are they supposed to be easy things that, if you played enough for the day, you would naturally do them? I’m not sure because even the previous daily required you to re-zone just to get the variety.

Are they supposed to carrot-on-a-stick push you in the direction that the developers want you to play? Maybe – the GW1 team was very specific on matters like full hero teams and other little things that required another player and repeatedly voiced that intent in discussions on the forums. And I thought one of the ‘bravo points’ of GW2 was the way they encouraged people to work together – so we were doing that already, weren’t we?

So what is the point of changing the dailies, then? I’m pretty sure they were not intending on creating something that requires more than a casual has time to do – I needed around an hour to do the previous dailies if I was in an area where I could get my events in. But this requires very specific things to be accomplished. So, why make the change? were they giving away too much Karma? Or are we just puppets in the grand play of Tyria?

New Dailies

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: mjhungness.8059

mjhungness.8059

We’ll see how this ends up but one of the things Ioved doing was dailies. There are a good number of times when I log in with no specific goal in mind and the dailies were there to do. I really felt like I was ‘bumming’ around the land, doing a bit of this and a bit of that, sometimes keeping my eyes on the achievement tracker, sometimes not but knowing I was getting close to completion. Now it seems like it will be tougher and more rote. Maybe the 4/6 will make it ok. Or maybe better rewards for doing all the bizzarro stuff and keeping the old dailies with karma rewards.

One thing is for sure: I don’t want this to turn into a GW1 argument about whether the game should force us to play in groups or with others, ala the full hero team wars.

Are you getting tired of Gw2?

I played the crap out of GW1 and honestly, that was why I stopped and played something else. True, there was a pretty good high when I completed a GW1 quest that succeeded, especially knowing that there was no safety net to catch a mis-step or run of bad luck, but after a while it was so frustrating that it almost felt like work. I figure out what build I need, what runes and signets to equip, which heros or who in the guild to fill out my party, then run the instance for an hour of white knuckle playing, hoping beyond hope that we do finish it without so many group wipes that we aren’t sitting at 60dp (and then have to re-start all over again), only to finish it with success and then … have to do it all over again in the next mission instance. Fun the first dozen times, but that razor’s edge between success and fail didn’t keep my interest. It irritated me, actually.

Rangers in GW1

Posted by: mjhungness.8059

mjhungness.8059

I was not a hardcore GW1 player by any means but I did play it solid for 3-4 years and completed all 4 campaigns in PvE (didn’t do much PvP). And yeah, I felt like a specialist in GW1. I got pretty good at interrupts and the most awesome time I’ve ever had in any MMO was when I pugged Hell’s Precipice and did all the pulling. There was no feeling better than scouting ahead and pulling one and only one mob out of a cluster at exactly the right moment so he could be lead back to slaughter by the rest of the team.

GW2’s ranger is fun, but it isn’t GW1’s ranger – not even close. And yeah, that was a design point for GW2, making all the classes a little less specialized and a lot more generic. I’m fine with GW2’s version, it’s been fun. But different.

You know, I think that if you made the Quaggan a $20 purchase it would still be rare. And really, what’s the point of ‘rare’ items – when you can’t put them on the trading post? I would think there would be an issue if you were allowed to flip Quaggans but you can’t. So, ‘rare’ is still valid. You’re just being more reasonable with real money purchases and I would guess Arena Net would make quite a bit more dough. But, all that said, I’m personally fine not having one but if I really did want one, I’d be pretty kitten if I spent a LOT of my money and just didn’t get lucky enough to get one.

Great job, Wintersday team!!! I’ve played everything (and by play, that means making 4-5 jumps in the jumping puzzle, max – I suck at Mario!) All of it is a blast! The artwork is amazing, particularly the detail of the mini’s. City decoration is what I expected from GW1 and then some. Tixx’s dungeon, at least the one that I got to play with the rest of my guild, was a rollar-coaster (none of us are close to 80, so it was white knuckle all the way). Just a great time and a great job! THIS is why I look forward to the holidays in GW!

The content that I saw and was able to play was a lot of fun! Get the technical difficulties worked out, but content-wise, I thought it was imaginative and pretty cool! Specifically, opening up a new map has a lot of possibilities and the scenery, as is the new standard, was fantastic. The Karka is a new toughie that’s exciting to fight (not sure if I’ll be able to take down even one of the small one’s alone, though). And the whole Consortium storyline was pretty good – going all over to solve the riddles was entertaining. As I said, get the technical snags worked out and keep plugging along with this kind of content – you got the best game on the market right now!

I love this game and the fact that I couldn’t play a lot of this weekend, either due to work schedules or bugs isn’t going to kill me. But, coming from an engineer, you guys made some crucial decision that relied 100% on a no failure mode, with no fall back planned if something did, in fact, fail. My recommendations, for what they are worth (hill of beans?):
1. One time events have proven, now, to be too risky with the technology you are using. Scrap them – make them available multiple times for real life scheduling and for mitigation due to technical difficulties.
2. Provide immediate responses back, in-game (you have an in-game mail system) relating to anything not going to plan.
3. Mitigate disaster – have backup plans in place for the event of bugs and key elements not firing correctly. I think you may be expecting success with no fall back for disaster. It just takes planning – do they have Failure Mode Effects Analysis in the software gaming industry?
Huge kudos to your team for attempting to pull off something big like this – the concept is amazing and the thought that went into much of the design of this weekend is fantastic. Get the product to market right the first time and fix it fast if it’s broke.

Not to call us Lemmings or anything like that but whenever there is a reason to be someplace, chances are we will be there. I think that when we like a game like this, we invest in it, and we want to feel like we’re part of the world in which we’re investing. Yes, it’s just a game, but it’s a game in which we choose to spend time in, again investing in it. The one-time only events are a cool idea, like, “Where were you when Mad King Thorn blew out Lion’s Arch.” But unlike real world one-time events (you can’t go back and re-live the first lunar walk) there is precidence for being able, through some of the suggestions above, to do exactly that.

I’m disappointed I can’t shift my real-world commitments around to experience Lost Shores in a week or so, and disappointed that the game I’m investing in is going to march along without me, at least for that three day event. I’m not going to lose sleep over it, but yeah, I’m disappointed.

I loved the event and bravo to the team that put it together! What I would change is making content like the storyline-book quests all accessable to lower level toons (kind of crappy to start it and then get stalled at the last two higher level zones and then hope I get help – time invested thinking I was going to get to finish now may be wasted unless I get some help in the crypts) and second comment would be to try to schedule over two weekends, not just one. I didn’t get as much playing time in as I wanted and would love to have another week to enjoy the festival. But great work – you guys are leading the pack!
