rng for machines is impossible..thats one of the first things electricengineers learn.

If you learned that, change the place where you learn. No good will come from there. This is plain wrong.

http://programmers.stackexchange.com/questions/124233/why-is-it-impossible-to-produce-truly-random-numbers

True RNG is not possible, but true RNG is not necessary.

The important thing is that it is possible to have simulated RNG that has absolutely no connection to your account – so that even if it’s not completely random it will be equally random for everyone and no one will be guaranteed better or worse results.

Which does seem to be the case in GW2. Or at least the only evidence I’ve seen against it is purely anecdotal and more often than not along the lines of “My friend just pulled his 3rd precursor from the Mystic Forge, I once threw some rares in there and I lost money so obviously I have an unlucky account that will never get any good drops” with a follow up post further down where they admit that yes their friend does combine rares or exotics in the Forge several times a week and has never kept track of the results but suspects he’s lost more gold than he’s made overall.

As far as i see it really matter and it really have an effect on the acc bcs u use the same computer usually….for me i would vote for useing non rng rewards also…like u have a 0,01% chance for a pre drop..if u didnt get it on the 1.000.000 loot ..u will get one…and then it restarts…if u got one before reaching the 1.000.000 ..then it also restarts

The main problem with “casual v hardcore” is that games are made with this duality in the first place. When I was young you had one difficulty called “the f-ing game you just bought” and you either beat it or you didn’t. There were no difficulty settings.

Exactly. Unfortunately, the original game I bought was casual. The “hardcore content” is new.

So, the logical conclusion of this argument would be to dumb down raids and the new maps to make them as easy as dungeons and core Tyria. However, I don’t think this would make people happy, so this argument doesn’t really work here.

U ever played the original orr? there were 2 times more monster..and it was suuuuuuuuuper fun….so i just wanna have it back but…since player enjoy the current orr..why not let both excist?

Because one is inherently more profitable.

While that encourages players to get better as this isn’t a 1 player game it doesn’t work out so well.

Oh im sure there is a way to balance the reward..where is a will there is a way. (also the old orr monster didnt drop so often the bags…at least when they reduced the amount of monster they said “dont worry we increased the dropchance of bags”…so the opposite should be possible.

also…the game is a “play as u like” game…i remember me running alone in the maps..and then randomly seeing someone and we were helping out eachother if needed..was really a cool feeling back then….i felt happy seeing another player…now it is “oh no i hope hes not on zerker..otherwise i cant hit any monster”

If it wasn’t so sad this thread would be humorous.
Only one person has brought up the significant fact that rewards matter.

The one question I have is if you consider yourself a hard core gamer, would you still play the harder content you enjoy if the rewards are the same as for casual content?

So is it the harder content you want, or is it the better rewards?

lets make sure we are discussing what really matters here.

It’s actually players wanting easier content rather than the other way around. Or at least that’s how I took it.

Im trying to ask..to make 2 modes for open world…or at least a way that a player can make himself weaker so the monster r stronger for him alone only.

If there was a better reward while beeing weaker..all these zerker who destroy an event for everyone around would not be so annoying anymore..they r happy (bcs of better reward)..and the others r happy..bcs they can finally hit a monster and get also rewards

for me im playing for fun…so i dont care if i get the same rewards…haveing a fun fight is reward enough (if the generall reward would be ok)

also..if i were to play for rewards…i would not bother to run around central tyria….sightseeing….gliding off from beautiful cliffs….while my guildmates farm high lvl fractals for money….

Here’s why pleasing both casuals and hardcore players is next to imposible:

If you make a “normal raid mode” that gives all rewards and achievements, then hardcore players scream.

If you make a “normal raid mode” that keeps exclusive rewards for hard mode only, then casual players scream.

The best you can do is make hard mode twice as rewarding as normal mode (which allows all rewards and all original achievements, with an extra set of new hard-mode-only achievements), so both casuals and hardcore players will be equally unhappy. That’s still not a great solution.

I get ur point

im just not talking at all about raids..im talking about open world…..gw2 have the greated and best open world in all games i ever player (i player more than 100 games xP)

None of the games I’ve played had a challenging open world. Then again, I get the impression that some of the newer ones might have a challenging open world, but I haven’t played them. When people think of challenging content, they think of dungeons/raids, not open world. The idea of a challenging open world just feels weird to me, and I think it would be frustrating for people who just want to go somewhere and avoid combat.

Thats why im trying to say that 2 same maps with different difficulty would be a solution….i honestly dont enjoy 1 hitting everything..and i dont enjoy 1 hitting 10 monster in an event..and the rest of the player dont even saw the monster comming and get no reward bcs of me

Lol original Orr was just stupid and annoying. You had to properly use condition cleanse and metal gear your way around. If not, you got stun locked to death. It was a challenge though.

Or… you know… you killed things.

y..i was also killing the monster..step by step..and i made my map completation during that time.

But that wouldn’t make it hard mode.
Just marginally harder because it would take a bit longer to kill it.
For one person. You.
That isn’t a new game mode.

If you’d wanted HoT Monster new tactics I could understand it but you aren’t describing a hard mode and the devs wouldn’t implement that. They already gave us harder with the expansion.

Then i should be happy with my ham in the tea?

Downscale a monster to 74 not 73..
You can’t have that and you can’t keep claiming there is even a playerbase that wants that. Do you even have the expansion?

The monster is 74…..my character is 76 in this area….i wanna only MY character be lvl 73..urs can still be lvl 76….that is what i mean…..

sry if my english is not so good to understand xP

and yes i have the expansion..its good made but still the central tyria maps r better designed

What we have now is….1 guy decide we wanna have ham in his tea..and everyone else need to hamy tea also..there is no other way to decide……
i say..let everyone be happ and choose what he want..if he like ham in tea..ok why not..may worth a try..but i wanna have my tomatoes <3 while my friend loves her cheese sandwich…

You are trying to fix an issue that is only an issue for you.
The solution? YOU fix it.
Make 5 accounts. Log them in and go afk on them. Now fight near them, everything will scale up and be hard for you.
Still not hard?
Reduce your gear.

The original Cursed Shore was NOT fun. You literally couldn’t get anywhere without wading through mobs, it was like Serious Sam without any gear because nobody had exotics at that point, none of the meta had been worked out and not that many people had even got there at this point. NOT fun. Also full of bots. So no thanks.

well for some it was not fun..but for others it was fun…..just bcs it was not fun for u u cant say it is no fun…..for me i just wanna hev something that everyone is happy…..i mean…why and how does it annoy u that i wanna fight a lvl 74 monster downscaled to lvl 73..and not to 76?? if u wanna be 76 ok..np..but why not let us choose what we want?? its a game after all we all play..and we all wanna enjoy

So in normal mode – I say only ‘blues’ should drop at 300% MF.
Anything more would be outrageous.
Map progression should also be capped at 50%
All nodes (harvesting) should also be removed.

‘Hard’ mode – has the existing MF Rate – and other stuff.

O___O normal mode should stay as it is…why punish player? thats nonsence…for me the fun alone is rewarding enough…sure it would be cool to get 3 rares in 1 h instead of 2…

Anet had to please the hardcores somehow, and the best way to do so is give them content that only they can clear consistently. As an added bonus, some items exclusive to the raids. Having a hard mode is pointless if it doesn’t give the proper rewards. It gives them a special feeling of upper status, doing gear checks, little extra income of selling raid team seats, etc. It is after all, the hardcores that stay around the longest. Having end game content like raids are inevitable, just like other mmos.

its not only about hardcore…..raids r ok…but whats the big problem is..if there are 1 or 2 lvl 80 player in central tyria..and they make an event with 5 other (who r not 80)…these lvl 80 will instant kill all monster appearing int he event..resulting the 5 others to get nothing..maximum only bronze participation….
the event scale is sometimes faaar too low..yesterday i made an event withsomeone (me haveing no power gear)…and there were 7 people afking near the event..the event ws made for 9 people..but me and the other made it..it was fun for both of us..it was difficult..but we managed it (he only had 200 AP) now if the other 7 were with us..there would have beein no fun at all..bcs the 2 of us (with weak gear) killed 10 monster easily

Well, its one thing to choose not to play together, but who gets to decide the label on the account as casual or hardcore. Who decides the definition of hardcore for that matter. And how do you convince the hardcore, they need to be handicapped, so others can enjoy the game a bit more.

It varies from player to player mostly in areas where gameplay is boring so they force themselves where others would quit.

Generally speaking

*Casuals – laid back game play, shy away and are easily intimidated by challanges. Follower mindset. *

Hardcore parkour (not possible to not add that last bit lol) – Consatntlytrying to push the limits, often handicap themselves – such as solo gameplay, weaker gear or gearless runs.

As a casual player, I find this extremely offensive. I play solo most of the time, but by your definition I’m a mindless sheep. Not appreciated.

y i also agree this definition is wrong…i think everyone sometimes wanna try his limits..and run alone..and make experiments..and everyone gets upset if things doesnt work out after the 100th time..and want to try it easier….everyone is casual and hardcore i think ;D just depened ont he mood of the person and the time that person have. (and how good the reward is and how nice ur friends r u play with)

The answer we’ve been given is that they don’t want to do that in GW2 for a myriad of reasons.

Beyond that, I honestly don’t think they’d be able to make it work in any feasible or enjoyable way.

really? why?….i loved the gw1 hardmode..it was super cool….

bcs people can start small..and once they mastered the game in normal mode…they can make the hardmode instead of leaving the game

and i dont think its impossible to just make another version of a map where downscaling is hared and 2 times more monster….in the past there were muuuuch more monster than now..so if they reduced it..they can also increase it

The current system is already requires heavy amount of resources. Doubling that cost when they need to use megaservers to fill maps wouldn’t be good business sense.

was just thinking…there is a way to make it use less resources…i didnt programm many games yet..but other things…lets imagine queensdale get a super duper LS3 event..then instead of haveing 10 megaserver..there will be 50 or 100…so..i dont think it will cost very much resources to have 1 or 2 hardcore maps…since they r the same just with different settings ..like monster amount or such

If there is a “normal mode”, it must have significantly less rewards than its “hard mode” counterpart. So if raids had a normal mode, the chances of getting any of the drops should be lower, collection items should not be 100% drop, and less shards are earned.

100% agree
same goes with stronger downscaled player

I don’t know what kind of games you used to play but what I used to play would be considered ultra hardcore by the average casual GW2 player. The so called “casual” gamer didn’t exist some years ago. “Gamers” were all players who loved games for what they are, loved games for what they presented and felt good when beating them. The “I just want to play 10 minutes to relax” mentality appeared after the actual “casual” games became a reality.

Now every game tries to be “casual” and all that wonder of old is lost.

Nope.

Difficulty settings were commonplace since the days of 16 bit game systems, almost 30 years ago.

Some games were definitely hardcore. But there were also lots of titles that were less demanding and could be played at a more relaxing pace.

Also, consider that one of the main reason the gaming industry flourished is by making games more accessible and appealing to a wider audience. We wouldn’t have half of the awesome stuff we do today if they kept gaming ‘hardcore’.

true
it had different modes…but atm gw2 is not haveing different modes for the same thing…
leaving out player who wanna have a real battle out of the beauty of central tyria is unfair…..i think everyone have the right to enjoy the game the same as thoso who wanna glide for fun in the jungle but die all the time…for both its is super annoying.

By definition hard mode is not for casuals…. It can not be called a casual game if all contents isn’t for every one. Other wise its a casual game with a band aide (hard mode) for a few people who brought together a large enough voice to be heard by developers. This just pushes it away from casual then.

Even in Mario cart, if a casual and hard core try to play together… then one of them isn’t in their element.

So no I still don’t see a good example proving they can co-exist in a game.

but if in mario cart both r playing seperated its tottaly fine. ..both r happy with their wanted difficulty…..and people r able to find players with same skills..so if they wanna play with someone..they play with someone with same skill lvl

I can’t speak for everyone, but my frustration with the games comes from having experienced the first 2 years of the game. It felt more alive (megaservers help with events, but they damage community). WvW was oodles of fun, and I felt a true sense of immersion in the zone. Spvp is still good imo, but they recently released a ranked season that forced players to have terrible matches for the beginning. (either you facerolled, or got facerolled) Living world updates were frequent, and even though they claim the quality was not great, it was fun and exciting to see the world change around us. The expansion (and patches leading up to it) have damaged the community, and it shows to players who have been playing since launch. Otherwise, you would be right, it is still a great game, but it just feels like it’s gotten worse instead of better, which is disappointing. (10/10 -> 8/10) Also, the expansion was the same price as the core game, but was just a fraction of the value, a big frustration point.

I 100% agree…..i played gw2 since the beta..and the first 2 years were the best ever! I didnt buy any other game during that time (which is really rare for me..in 2 years)…and i didnt even though of other games..bcs gw2 was perfect how it was…fun..always something new…and improving.

Thats how i play….but the way i play annoys many player..bcs im camping spots where more than 5 monster appear….and in worst case these r needed for quests..and then..when i see an event..i enjoy attacking all the wave..but if the others r not so fast me..they get no reward from the event…..i feel bad bcs i hurt others

I mean..whats the problem in making 2 copies?..everyone choose what he wants..and the thing is done Oo…i feel really bad taking all the mobs from new player who just start learning the game..im taking away their fun…they r just standing there in events and cant hit 1 monster…im already running around with super bad gear ..but there r others who instant kill the mobs bcs they r still pure zerker

If you want to decide, as a player, as you have stated then take off your exotic berserker gear and run round in some green gear with a healer weapon. Heck, run round naked!

Actually.. I imagine a naked group of staff wielders could be a lot of fun.. I might try this out later.

im actually doing this already..but it doesnt help..and it doenst feel right…it is no fun

That would resolve ALL hardcore-casual problems.

It will solve some problems..but mainly the ones about pvp and group content. What about solo play in normal maps? i find it really hard to find a place where r more than 5 monster so close than i need fight all at the same time. I grew up with old orr..and it was a super cool map back then. And many player who play this game since release will surly have the same problem…they dont even go back to open world bcs its deadly easy for them…

Partial hand disability...

Im trying atm a tanky revenant..its staff/hammer with the dwarf legend. U can even fight 5-10 monster (central tyria) and dont die..just makeing autoattack on staff and useing the 2 hammer around u (with the dwarf legend). Its really fun and easy build
thats the solo version:

Hello people of tyria,

More than ever..i think we r haveing a casual hardcore problem…some people enjoy it when they dont need to die many times…and some player enjoy it to reach their limits and to steadily improve

so..why not make 2 copies of 1 map(im mainly talking about central tyria)…1 of them will be as it is now..or a bit easier…and the other will have double amount of monster..and downscaling is stronger.

what do u think?

(there r already many megaserver ..so many copies from the same map..why not let the played decide between easy and hardmode in maps?)

anyone knows if im just haveing bad luck or if it is meant bcs central tyria became free to play? (or any other reason)

I really hope Anet wakes up

i guess the first post is not against raids..but against the direction gw2 is taking..it become pure grinding…in the past u could freely run around and have fun everywhere how u like..now u need do special things that u dont even enjoy….and there is sooo less content except brainless grind thats not even fun. The old open world in gw2 was super cool and it have the potential to grow even better if someoen take care of it..and add more different activities for everyone (so everyone can choose what to do)….and in the past gw2 was never boring..there was always something going on…now its doing the same over and over….

to tell the true…..i enjoy HOT as it is now..and im 90% soloing it….its finally fun to kill random monster…or to escape if a situation gets difficult..and then try it again with a better start
well im not playing normal xD…i mainly explorer the region..just have fun seeing new places..and kill anything that moves on the way. it was difficult in the beginning..but once i learned to kill 1 monster safely..i started to attack 2..then 3..and so one im getting better and better slowly..i even try making skill points alone..its often failing…but after winning in the 20th time it just feel great! like “omg i did it!”
and…usually when i run around central tyria (thats my main hobby bcs the maps r just so beautiful) i find it boring to 1 hit everything i see…and usually i find myself camping mini dungeons where 30 monster spawn so that i can kill them for fun..unluckil the fun is over after 30 sec :/ and events….omg events..the only challange now is to be able to hit every monster 1 time only…so u get reward and the others too.
