Thief is broke.

I don’t think his intention was to say the thief is broke per se. I think he is simply perplexed and quite rightfully angry at thieves because of the pure hell they get off with. I think its unfair to say he is simply “QQing”, cause we all have our days when we feel something is unfair, nobody likes losing and when we do, we often blame the game rather than our own playstyle. In this case however, I think Aaruhn has a valid point to make on this. As we all know ( and if you have any idea of how it is to play games), the issue is fairness. Thieves can be killed as many go for the glass cannon , high burst builds and it really is effective. But what is not really 100% fair is the fact that you are literally stabbing in the dark hoping to catch it with a burst of aoe or a lucky strike. I have seen good warriors, eles etc all taken down by glass cannon thieves, simple because they have stealth and are very fast. The thing is to play a good thief is a good skill and playing a thief is not easy I assure you, but I am sorry all you thieves out there. You do have things far too easy and that’s the bottom line. If you deny that, its a lie otherwise to play glass cannon in another build would be suicide. Taking into account that a few well known server teams use a lot of similar thief and Mesmer builds and in great numbers, you know it works.

I actually stopped playing my thief because as a gentleman, I knew that the current Anet configuration ( even after the last so called nerf) was frankly stupid and really far too overpowered as a class considering its armor class. The stealth feature is very unfair, after all every other class does not have an ability to stealth as much as a thief can. I kinda have to go with the agreement side of this, I know how upsetting it can be when a fight does not go the way intended, mistakes are something you can fall back from and learn from. A good example of this was in Piken BL today, fighting what I thought was one player ( an ele I think) on a very high ledge. No sooner as I downed him, a thief just appeared beside me. The guy literally was standing there through the whole fight stealthed as there was no way to get on that ledge without some portal or hack. Now I give him his due, he was gentleman enough not to intervene in a one to one fight, not many would be that gracious ( so whoever that was WTG). However the toe rag decided that with my half health he would make a meal of me& he almost did, but thanks to my engie downed burst skill I toppled his glass cannon butt over the cliff as I downed him, which I so lolled at afterwards.

And this is what I think many are complaining about, why should any class be allowed to stealth pretty limitless like that? Nobody else does, engies don’t and they have a similar health pool. So yeah, the mechanics are out of favour to be honest. These days I refuse to go into WvW with it because I do feel I was having a bigger advantage over others. As an ex -thief to be honest, I don’t think thieves are nerfed enough. Now I wait for the “QQing” cause frankly the biggest QQers are the thieves lol

Completely neglecting an entire class for this content is inexcusable, regardless of the reason.

No class was “Completely” neglected. Even if we don’t like it, every class can use at least one super weapon skin.

I imagine they worked hard to make sure of that.

We have kits, we don’t weapon swap. The pack detaches as soon as we wear a kit so most of the time said backpack would vanish. Thankfully I use a shield but i would have liked a pistol to go with it. As for the poor rifle users, well they have nothing . It should be something that can be displayed all the time. After all warriors can have a short sword and shield to wear simultaneously, why should an engie be any different?

Be sure that if your party members leave that you actually kick them from the party or leave it properly.
I had a group of 4 but only 3 were in the instance (and I didn’t realize the other member was still in the party thus counting for doors/chests).
What we did to counter that was at the doors we just moved real quick across 2 of the pedals and it opened. Should have kicked the other party member though lol.

The party of 5 was the worst idea. having it as a solo dungeon or at least for two would have been so much better and enjoyable. I am pretty fed up of these bad attitude speed runners, not all of us are there for the instant gratification of loot. The Super Box is an awesome world but unfortunately like most MMO’S, the nature of the beast is you will have some immature minded person, with little people or social skills to ruin it for all; especially if they decide to quit cause nobody is playing the game to the speed they want.
Unfortunately some of us have jobs, families, responsibilities than to stand in GW all day to know every jump at hand.. A solo would have been a great move gaming wise for Anet. In fact it would possibly bring more interest to new gamers having this perm on GW who look on 8 bit culture fondly and with nostalgic sentiments

P.S – if anyone is having issues with such toe-rag players, whisper to me inworld and we can try and set up some guild to work on such dungeons without the need to PUG and added stress of loot speed runners.. I know some people are having difficulty finding dungeon running guilds ( I know I did ) that don’t have patience for new or in-experienced players. Will be nice to hear from you, of if you do run such a guild – give me a whisper.

When I first went in I was totally amazed, I think Anet should keep this on for various reasons. I will give a good story to this . Yesterday was my first time in the Super Box, I was like a kid again with my NES and I would have loved to spend time looking around and exploring the place carefully ( hell some of those jumps are hard ). What spoiled it was one of those arrogant immature dungeon runners was in our team. Yeah you know the story – rush rush , want the goods, cursing and demeaning the slower ones , you are all noobs etc – Thus Quit the team early as we had already told him off for his jerky behaviour. He huffed so we could not finish the dungeon.

However I did enjoy what time I had in there , I just wish you could continue the game without other parties. The scenery and detail in this dungeon is unique and was so much fun to take part in. Please keep this on , please make it more open in the next update in fear of more huffed out players. A lot of younger players won’t appreciate this world, seeing it only for another skin/ loot opportunity. But some of us old enough to remember blowing on cartridges to get them working will look on this fondly .

Weren’t engineers left out in earlier events as well, as far as getting all 3 skins they can use?

IF you guys do this because of limited resources, than at least rotate the professions that get it all.

It’s not the end of the world, but really: just plan this a bit more carefully.
At least look at what skins you didn’t offer in previous events…

Aye agreed, but I cant see what limited resources Anet is talking about. Perhaps if they explained this in better detail it would stand better but if they have a rifle/ pistol already in code format, the transformation would be little more than cosmetic. So what is this limited resource?

We are a very small team. The more skins we made, the less stuff we could make in the Box. So we settled for a minimal set, with plans to add to it with each new World we release. I love Engies and I wish we could have served them and Thieves better this time around, but had to make some tough choices.

i am sorry but to me as player that sounds just as excuse and very insulting.
basicaly it sounds like you saying for some classes there is no reason 2 do the new content cuz you will get nothing for your class from it anyway… really sounds unfair

I totally agree, this has been the issue with Anet and Engies since day one. They created a bad class difference, made the performance of damage disgracefully poor and now have even gone as far now to totally disregard this class for rewards in a dungeon that all should have something for them for attempting. Come on Anet, it’s time to get real and time to start admitting you are failing this class , everyone knows it and perhaps its about time for you all to look start making this class shine and more importantly , treated with as much care and importance as others. We all spend the same money here no matter what the class and that’s the bottom line.

It’s a start but its not enough , Thieves and Mesmers have far too much advantages to builds than others do. So let’s hope Anet really do the work and work to balance all classes equally to have fair 1 v1 survivabilty. Sorry Anet but your classes are not equal and do need addressed :/

Last Friday was totally amazing in E.B , we Piken compadres totally annialated the opposing Zergs when they stormed Stonemist several times. It shows just how important a good commander is and how if they know their stuff, how it can really bring a team together. The best ones I say are the ones that actually talk, command the team and aware as not to leave valuable manpower behind. Find the opposition, annialate and move on to keep valuable manpower safe. Sad to say I have seen a few poor commanders who are fixated on their own thing and simply " hope" others will follow. It’s not a great battle plan but thankfully on Piken we have some great commanders to make up for the poor ones.

Now I am not a person to say " I told you so" but for you guys on Gandara, I am really sorry you guys are having issues but this was exactly the BS we were getting on Piken before some of the big guilds left. Piken got well undermanned further when the rest of the fame cheezeballers left to go with them cause they were now on " the losing side" Payback sucks hard and comes at a price :P
It’s not as if we never told people this would happen, we all did and guess what … “it’s happening and many moved regardless”

I have been on the Piken square side for months and I must say the people on there are really cool. I have never been asked to stop following because we know every person on our server is valuable to balance the French Zergiest. The answer for those suffering from elitest and unfriendly guilds and said groups, is " quantity is not always quality, they may be good fighters but some have very questionable personalities and really bad people skills".

I will admit I am not a fan of AR gameplay, I find the manner in which they play very questionable and a little trollish, relying on numbers to gain kills. However is this any different in life ?, hunting in packs is as old as mankind is . However it is WvW, groups will naturally spawn and AR are organised in what they do and the game is to beat your enemy. Where we have fault is the fact that AR serves both French and French Canadian players and because of that, we have the situation such as on Piken where we are very undermanned. This is due to them literally clocking in on rota /sharing time, therefore creating almost 24 hour clock of larger numbers and therefore capitalizing on points – when we sensible euros are tucked up in bed for work the next day. It’s not anyones fault but Anet’s fault and the fact they need to address this .
The other answer is come fight for Piken, worry less about the fame of big guilds ( cause most of them are not that great :P) and have fun. Nuff said .

How would you fix Zergwars?

Good Answer Sanhayn, I think that Zergs should be unrewarding and that your rewards would be penalized depending on how large the numbers were on the server side. Of course Anet already has the Outmanned buff that gives us a better percentage, but I compare this pretty much to the " Magic Find Runes" , Offers plenty on paper, deliver nothing per % of kills with only a minor fraction of a lucky find. Possibly no better a chance without the Runes in the first place. Secondly an outmanned buff is useless considering that you will come across many zergs built for power and relying on the sheer numbers alone . That buff is rendered useless as you have no chance of a win as you would be toast as soon as such small group meet said Zerg.

I must admit though that Zergs have been good for loot, those glass cannons have advantages for us. But its based very much on your team and how good they are and how such AoE support players are supported by the Team. But there is a lot of exploiting of boons between zergballers, constant stacking that really kills the gameplay.

I don’t have a solution other than debuff the zergs and give them almost minimal chances of rewards when in an over-populated side. The other for Anet to understand the servers and stop the examples that are happening such as on Piken Square, where both French and French canadian are sharing servers, therefore capitalizing on almost 24 hour zerg based on time zone, it is very un-balanced as standing now and pretty kitten unfair to the very talented players on the Piken Square side ( you all do good despite the issues)
Lastly give us Engineers with fantastic damage to destroy the Zergists and we shall party hard amongst the lootbags.

P.S – beginning to see more nade Engies on Piken Square, nice one – hope to see more of you guys and girls on the field.

So there I was getting ready to make Quip when I realized that getting my beetletun seals is possibly the the 2nd most difficult point on gaining the seal. The reason is nobody seems to want to do this dungeon, it is constantly empty yet I see many flocking to the entrance of the place. I have noticed the Sorrows also follows this similar fate.
I would really appreciate anyone who may give an insight on this and what are my options in eventually getting these Beetletun seals. I wish Anet would make such seals and general rewards from dungeons transferable for sale on trade post.

Better Alternative to the HGH Build

I do love HGH builds, they are possibly one of the best things engineers have alongside supply crates and speedy kits. If anything I would recommend any engineer take on the HGH trait line. Might is an engineers best buddy I would also say X on explosives is a great trait too, but I like my speedy kits and pistols really need all the full 30 in firearms to make it worthwhile. But I am not really into swapping runes, for other classes they are good but for engies they end up messy. Keep sigils passive as best you can, some good precision somewhere in your trinkets and some life steal food and you should be ok with HGH.

I hope they do too, if they don’t then I want to see the gameplay developers actually come into WvW as a test to see how they fair with this class. I am sure if they did, revisions would be made quickly. Engies always should have had heavy armor, they should be built like tanks and would explain the low damage/ low speeds of this character.
I hope the devs will spread some much needed steroids to this class, if and when they do they will soon see more people becoming engies. Engies are fun to play, just really poorly matched.

The Engineer is possibly the most expensive class to have. Everyone has an opinion on a build and if it works for them thats pretty cool. I don’t think people are whining though, to be honest people are not whining enough TBH. If you were to talk about how much gold wasted on sigils, runes etc on the back of other peoples builds and finding later the play is not for them, well they have a right to complain.

There would be far more builds and advice on this class if more played it, but because points mean everything and winning fights, then people will choose to play the classes Anet favours in its damage and versatile nature. The proper way to develop the engineer is through Anet themselves and to raise what is a very average class with low health pool, protected by medium armor and lacklusture weapon damage even with berserker amulets etc. The fact is we pay the same prices for runes as other classes, the issue is these additions are pretty much bolstering very poor base damage. Until then we are pretty much wasting time until Anet will ( after much pushing) to raise this class to a point that it is on match with others.

That being said, there is no fast rule to make an engineer class your own style of build. I have run glass cannon with nades in WVW with mass zerg teams on both sides and made plenty badges but its at a very horrible personal damage price. A warrior can run 100 blades, take a massive amount of health off you and has armor as tough as old boots. Thieves can gain almost limitless stealth and massive damage compared to thier fragile nature. And run a guardian and elemental tag team, well we all know what happens there. If Anet had really thought about the engineer, the Golem should have become part of the engineers elite skills but one that works similar to ranger pets.
Basically we need to stop poking fun out of people for actually making a point on this class. You play the engineer cause you like the class, if you like the class poke Anet some more (in numbers of complaints) to develop the class you paid good money to play for. That is the only real way forward to gaining what people want.

The key word is engineer, things like stealth should have been part of engineer class due to the technological basis of the character. Where is the technology of the thief? Shadow would have been more in calling for thieves and something that would only be possible in night situations. It’s just something thats really have not been thought through and it’s pretty apparent.
Instead we have turrets with laughable damage and breakability even with added trait lines, we have grenades which have a base damage and condition tick where water balloons would have been more aggressive. It’s just plainly not really practical as far as the rest of the game mechanics and damage system goes.

We don’t want a god mode class, that would be pointless and would never happen. But we do need this class to be looked on properly with the developers, that provides a decent health pool and better base damage ratio to pistols and rifles to compete in WvW, with better boons and some passive sigils. We should be ( as which as been mentioned before) , similar to the Hybrid Elemental. The engineer is versatile but has really rubber band damage unless you choose to go horribly glass cannon which in dungeons and in some WvW servers where some sides are horribly outmanned, then you will die quickly. P.T.V is the way to go, just make sure you have a little punch somewhere to give you some damage as a support role. But the engineer will always be the achillies heel in a party against stronger aggressors.

Is everyone certain this is the case? Because when I tested it with the FT it seemed the effect did not happen when jumping, but the global cooldown was actually still triggered.

As far as being dead goes; I haven’t thought so for a second. Our problem is the same problem you always see with class balance: There are other classes that can do similar things with seemingly more ease.
They did show they’re paying attention to kits and although it wasn’t perfect they did some very nice work last patch (the EG and FT reworks show they’re working with a scalpel instead of a sledgehammer imo, which is promising).

This is exactly the point made regarding speedy kits. It’s taking away practicality and constant finger bashing on keyboards for repeat turns. Speedy kits is not the answer and its takes away points from creating other important traits needed on the field. Speedy kits is also in all fairness a very bad attempt at a gap closer. The issue is some classes have a normal run speed that far outclasses this.

We are versatile yes but at with a very clumsy operating system. Why should we spend those points on a kit thats nothing close as a gap finisher when other classes have speeds better than this in passive. Let’s not mention with grenades, EG, FT etc, thats a lot of work for a class with average armor, health, toughness and speed. What we need is to be boosted to heavy armor class with a good health pool or give us the speed. We also need something that is activly passive like sigils to meet with other classes.

Problem is as cool as the Engie is, it’s in drastic need of some Anet bonuses to keep it on par with other classes on a one to one. PvE is fine, its where WvW and PvP comes to head ,that the engineer classes really fault. I am still waiting for Anet to test the engineer out on WvW and prove to us that we do not need a ton of improvements to " close the gap".
Even in PvP engies can hold their own despite the slow speeds and other issues known to engie players. WvW is where its at and Anet need to field these this to see how best to tweak this class as a stand alone class as others are.

I agree Penguin. Closing gaps is what we really need but I maintain we need a faster running speed on par with the rest. We don’t do as much damage as Anet would make us out to have.Medum armor, medum health, average damage, low speed – is pretty much how it boils down . Unless Anet would like to enlighten us in how to actually get the best out this build, so far I have seen nothing yet. I think even they would be pushed to find one if they were honest.

I love the engineer class, its something I will always play and is a lot of fun. But for Anet Devs observing forums we do need better permanent run speeds to match other classes, even with added distance to rifles other classes are running out from reach ( even with a swiftness elixir)
13 seconds of swiftness against permanant run speed does not even compare. I agree we need a steath capability too. Classes are not created equally, so intead of nerfing engies who are already a weak class one to one and giving thieves and mesmers ludicrous skills, give us some decent base health, a run speed or stealth so we can make a getaway if needs be and the rest we can sort ourselves.
Our grenades also cannot go over fort walls, which if Anet devised this class to be a kite mode of play – well they really have not worked that out either. Sort this out seriously !!

!00% map completion keeps reverting

I have noticed twice now that even though I have completed 100% of the map, that it will often revert back to 98% . Whats strange is that even though all waypoints are showing up on map, when highlighing map areas it is reporting that I am missing one waypoint in several regions.
What is causing this bug and is there anyway in fixing it, I really don’t feel I should chase my tail around searching for these " missing " waypoints again. Any ideas whats causing this?

The problem is ( if people choose to look properly at the situation) is the fact that many structured and huge guilds have now amalgamated and are now fighting against what were previously smaller guild allies. I won’t name names as people know who the big guilds are who recently moved servers. This left WvW in Piken Square at a very horrible situation where you have 2 to 3 massive guilds now combined and Zerking the hell out of everything.. Now call me what you like but I find that really unfair and a really trashy thing to do. It’s totally ruined WVW for many in smaller guilds who depended on at least one big guild to even the scores. What Anet need to do is match up the servers to allow even teams on both sides, just now thats not happening and in order to have a system that gives a fair standard of opportunity for badges , rewards per kill etc.

There is nothing good about Zergs of 60 to 70 people against 10 to 15 . All that creates is instant death on one side and a low chance of actually gaining rewards for the other, simply due to the massive size ( or overkill) of some parties where you can’t move due to lag let alone can’t see who to target due to massive bodies. There is no skill now, its all Whaaaaaaaaaagh and charge, and really thats not fun at all. Its nobodies fault but Anets alone, they need to see whats gone on, cap the numbers per side and even it out. Servers should match equally developed players ( inc classes) – and with a massive huge transfer charge. That way you stick with what you got and its a massive decision to make before a move.

The major problem is some guilds don’t talk, there is a degree of web page snobbery when it comes to recruting members. Some guilds are quite happy to not take other people in its ranks and if they do, they take it too seriously with tests, paperwork, forms to fill and other wonderful induction ideas to actually prevent you from applying. What ever happened with in-world recruitment? . If we need to even the scores, smaller guilds now need to network directly in-world and develop good networks to inform and devise evenly matched new allies. It’s something our french counterparts do very well, so why can’t the native english players do that? It makes you wonder? So its time to stop grumping and time to start speaking or unfortunatly the bigger guilds will continue to wipe the board.

P.S @ chronometra. Thank You, I am glad you spoke up. Anyone thats accusing you of drama really needs to take a good hard look at the situation before a comment. It is not drama it is simply reality of the situation. I find nothing enjoyable in spending 40 silver within 30 mins of play in repairs just because our side is now unbalanced and undermanned without so much as a badge kill or loot to balance those repairs.

So how about the smaller guilds start talking, matching up communication contacts and lets have fun again. Actually lets all stop playing in WvW for a few weeks, lets drop the tier and see what happens.,maybe that time could be used to regroup and as Axle says use that to growth and opportunity.
