Well, I’m well aware of the invisible second wall that resets you. You can actually get past that wall by shadow stepping. Once you get past that wall you can walk right into there spawn (assuming you dodge the other sets of legendary defenders) and start trolling the enemy.
Although you cannot attack the enemy player (due to invincible buff) you can run around the spawn leading them on a wild goose chase. Best of all, you can kill the enemy NPC’s such as their Repair Man, Armor and Weapons dealer. It’s really funny. You can also use Scorpion Wire on the NPC while a player is talking to the NPC vendor and it will interrupt the conversation.
I did this a couple times to IOJ and I started wondering if Anet didn’t intend for enemy players to get past the invisible wall so I stopped in fear of being banned for exploitation. I wonder though, why bother having the legendary defenders in the spawn if Anet isn’t expecting enemy players to be in it? For the record, I’ve died numerous times from those guys compared to actual player mobs who chase me.
get an organized group and scorp wire all the vendors out of the spawn area.

would be fun if their Lions Arch portal actually led you to their server

Don’t care about spies as long as they only spy and don’t do stuff like wasting supplies, siege blocking an entire server by building 943089 Arrowcarts etc.
Simply relaying information won’t do much harm besides giving the server accurate information on the commanders whereabouts, supplies in different holds and defensive siege.
Yes, that’s still valuable Intel on itself but what are you gonna do?
How are you gonna prove it?
As I said, I don’t mind, if they feel like they need it, let them do it, you can’t stop them anyway until free transfers are entirely gone.

Lol fall damage reduction traits are useless aswell xD I rather have a: “remove all conditions when activating mist form trait.”
you obviously never played WvWvW. Falling damage reduction is a must have to get around quickly in borderlands.
As Ele lacks a fall damage reduction, I got a better proposal:
Zephyrs Speed is poor as it is. Make it reduce falling damage while attuned to air on top of giving the 10% move speed :>
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
The effect of damage stats you can stack in this game is huge. On the other hand, the skill still needs to be decent for people who aren’t stacking all those glass cannon stats. Their crit multipliers are much smaller and base hits are lower in the first place. Even the glass cannon guy who was shooting here would’ve done only 5k if it didn’t crit. That’s less than double the typical (glass cannon statted) ranged skill 1 in the same time plus extra downsides from the burst skill.
If original poster had 500 more toughness, that would’ve been 10k. Still really big but he could’ve retreated to safety easily in that position. A typical guardian running around in Knight’s gear and with protection would’ve only taken 2-4k – if it didn’t get blocked.
What I’m trying to say is that there’s a really wide scale of potential damage here that they have to balance for. From both attacker’s and defender’s stats and effects. And a defensive guy – with only power or condi as secondary stat – should still be able to slowly kill another defensive guy. To avoid stupid bunker situations.
So it’s quite possible that people will never stop being alarmed about damage numbers in this combat system. In the end it’s a game of active defenses. The burst skill has increased weakness to interrupts, blind, block, evade and so on, and self-rooting is more hurtful than in other games in the first place. I think arguing that culling needs fixing if opponent was really within attack range and not visible would be more successful.
if you really wanna go for a 1hit kill, you can go for a 100% crit(on weapon swap) sigil in your rifle.
Anyway, these kinds of build should not be taken seriously anyway. It’s a joke to think, they’d be any threat on the real battlefield, that is outside pointless 1v1 and 1vx skirmishes. WvW is not decided by kills, it is decided by points.

The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
again it depends.
If you really want to play to win and not for drops/killing players, a roaming thief can be surprisingly effective…
Just snipe Dolyaks and invis out. Repeat infinitely. One of the best ways to play a permastealth thief :>
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
depends on what you wanna do.
An Ele can stall multiple opponents for pretty long and get loads of kills roaming.
A Thief can get loads of kills against idiots but that’s about it.

The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Limiting a portal to a certain number of players taking it would absolutely destroy any viability of the skill. Bottom line is that greater numbers will, most likely, defeat inferior numbers. Whether they portal bomb you or not, which I’ve previously gone over as being extremely counterable, you will lose to a greater force most of the time. The biggest issue with Portal is culling. ANet is trying to fix this issue and it is not a result of portals, it just tends to show the engine’s deficiencies more often. Stop trying to swing the nerf bat and actually adapt to a tactic for once.
This is where I disagree.
While it is true, larger numbers will most likely defeat smaller numbers, often times, that’s not the point at all.
If smaller numbers fight larger numbers, they do it for a reason.
Usually that reason is trying to stall for time.
Either they know, they will die and just try to outlive the next timer to gain points for the team or they wait for reinforcements but point is, they are all turtled up with siege, knockbacks, walls, traps and whatnot and try to stall the enemy at a choke point for as long as possible.
The portal bomb however destroys every attempt of stalling for time. It turns any long, drawn out battle into a five seconds fireworks show.
five seconds fireworks. Then the battle is decided.
No matter whether people are still alive or not, these 5 seconds decide the outcome of the battle.
So we got a tactic which gives the opponents 1 seconds to spot it, relay the message, react and prepare, while deciding the outcome of the battle in 5 seconds flat. There definitely needs to be some kind of tweak at the portal bomb which results in slightly longer preparation time for the defender.
Give the portal a 2.5 second cast time with a clearly visible animation which shows up no matter whether the mezz is stealthed or not.
Heck, let it be instant if must be… and increase the activation time to 2.5 seconds. almost the same.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
I disagree on the traits. It’s way more freestyle than that.
I’d say, 15 in arcane is a good base, anything above is bonus.
30 water is not that much of a must as you might think. There’s also the possibility of going for a signet-aura-build(which lacks stun breakers but gets a ton of protection) and possible 2 or 3 other viable specs. Don’t narrow it down too much.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Next time visit some Skritt before doing it and grab a bunch of stones to throw around.

Arent eles kinda hard to play cause you have to always switch attunements?
Not really. The trick is to not dive into all the attunements all at once, but to work your way up to memorizing your skills and swaps little by little. First, just focus on memorizing the skills in your first attunement of choice (whatever that is). Then, work your second attunement in at around the same level that weapon-swapping is introduced for other professions. Once you’ve memorized that second set and can swap between the two easily, then work-in that third attunement. Once you’ve memorized that third set and can swap between those three attunements easily, start working on your fourth.
Before you know it, you’ll be able to swap attunements quickly and easily!
wrong.
While leveling up, just keep switching and casting random skills regardless. During leveling it dowsn’t matter much.
Don’t learn weird stuff, which you certainly will when staying in attunements. Switch as much as possible. Cast 3 spells, switch, cast 3 spells, switch.
Learn what cast is good in what situation and work your way up from there, switching to the right attunements.
By staying at one attunement for too long, you waste kill time and learn weird stuff. Keep switching from the beginning or you’ll have to un-learn the stuff you learned earlier at a later stage.

For Warriors that’s pretty much the only way to remove conditions except for war horn

Alt-F4 is a command so it should be easy to disable log in for ten minutes for that account. Let’s see how many use it if that was implemented. Increase the duration for each use within a seven day period to a maximum of one hour.
It’s a growing trend and quite annoying when you are involved in an epic battle of 10-15 a side and as soon as the other side start losing ‘poof’ the downed players log off, denying my side badges, drops etc.
The repair bill argument is just hot air.
if you press f12, you stay logged in…
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
The big thing about axe is its instant nature. You got a 600 range attack with no visible projectile whatsoever. Let it stay 600 range, cause a 900 range instant attack would be too powerful. About the damage, that can be changed tho :>
edit: At above:
Necro trait lines need some juggling anyway. It’s the most narrowed down thing in the whole game. You need to specialize exclusively for one thing or it won’t work out anyway.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
the first and foremost rule: You need a sword in the main hand!
Whether you use pistol or dagger offhand is a matter of preference, actually.
Pistol is more straightforward, immobilize and daze all the way, while dagger is more about ripping boons.
It’s not like you can outright win. The question will be, who is the first to hit a dead end with no daze/dodge/heal left to get out. A game of chess, so to say.
It will most likely end Remis tho.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Btw I really wanna see a team “fake portal bomb”.
So you bust in a portal in the middle of their formation, they all go “oh shi-” and spam their rings of warding, feedback bubbles, wells, meteor showers, frost fields and marks on it…
…And then the opponent simply runs in from the flank and all the nice AoE stuff is on cooldown.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Ok guys, let’s calm down and analyse the ability.
Portal provides instant teleportation over a large range to an unlimited amount of players.
As I don’t like that “unlimited” being changed, a suitable nerf would be to tone down the “instant” aspect by either giving the portal ability(or at least the “place portal” ability) a horrendous cast time of 2-3 seconds or disabling every player who just went through the portal for some time.
The only problem with portal is that it’s the only ability in the game which allows teams to melt face instantly.
Btw I love the Idea of having a very long and obvious cast animation on casting the second portal.
Like 2 seconds cast time and the Portal slowly fades in for 0.5 seconds, then becomes even brighter than it usually is, slowly returning back to its normal color and then it’s usable.
The second choice, giving every port a windup time would be nice too. Especially cause it will also tone down mass golem movement for a bit.
The third one is more of a “Hammer” method of just mindlessly destroying any chance a portal bomb would ever have at succeeding. My least favourite one.
And as mentioned earlier in another post, I feel like portal should be an elite. It just feels so wrong that mesmers can hae both Portal and omgwtfTimeWarp at the same time. Have them make a painful choice!
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Personally I don’t have a problem with Thieves culling. More when you rush into your garrison to stop the zerg from taking your lord and it takes you 10-20secs to realize you’re over extended and to your ears in Invaders.

Totally agree with op. It takes the fun out of w3 in so many different ways. It’s cool if you disagree with the op but your responses have been pathetic to be honest. Especially the ones about skill as it takes zero to do and removes the long and fun battles out of W3 which all of you have failed to comment on.
Some servers go for the win, a long drawn out battle may be detrimental.
Your sever may have the ability to break the enemies at the beginning of the fight but if it ends in a long drawn out battle you may be wiped.
Not every battle ends because of a single portal bomb. (Seriously at a fight with Drakkars last week in hills keep, we were bombed and bombed about 7 times each, we were still fighting nearly 2 hours later.)
The people fighting might hate long drawn battle?
Why does every battle have to be long and drawn out?
Your right on the skill point but then it DOES take organization. It take more skill to stop a bomb so try and see it as an opportunity to show the enemy that your more skilled?
I dunno, but it’s not as game breaking and fun ruining as people are making out.
So you wannna use us Drakkars as a measure for portal balance?
Cmon, in terms of being an unorganized mess, there’s not a single server capable of beating us. You guys at Gandara are a totally different level from us and every single fight showed that.
You simply can’t use unorganized karma trains from Drakkar Lake of all servers as a measure for portal balance.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
just add a 2 second “portal sickness” where you are unable to perform any action after using a portal.
ALso swap portal with any elite skill which is NOT Time Warp(xD) and give it a longer cd. Make Mesmers have to choose one of 2 game breaking spells and dont let em have both…

The thief has a few great things going for it:
- You can spam Clusterbomb, which is a big area attack capable of 5k crits. It’s powerful area denial.
- Clusterbomb is also a blast finisher. It arcs over wall nicely when you’re on the defense. If people move out of your target zone, you can pop it into sub-munitions that fly everywhere.
- Moving through a zerg with Dagger Storm is fun.
- “Glass cannon” gear you’d want for big ranged blasts works well with the thief’s melee strategy.
- The class has good movement abilities to get you where you want to be.
- Thieves are the masters of finishing downed opponents. Stomping is fun.
- The downed-state teleport is handy for getting you back behind your own lines.
However,
- Clusterbomb has a very slow flight time due to its high arc.
- Other than Clusterbomb, your ranged attacks are 900 range. You kinda have to run into harms way if you want to start spamming your bouncy arrows.
There are other options… seems like engineer, ele, warrior, maybe wells necro might be enjoyable for you as well. I don’t have personal experience with these, though.
lemme finish your sentences:
- You can spam Clusterbomb, which is a big area attack capable of 5k crits. It’s powerful area denial and the only way, thieves can deal respectable AoEdamage anyway.
- Moving through a zerg with Dagger Storm is fun until that necro turns your stability to fear or that big guardian with the hammer just ignores your elite and whacks you away.
- “Glass cannon” gear you’d want for big ranged blasts works well with the thief’s melee strategy and contradicts the aforementioned daggerstorm brilliantly while making you instand-fooder for anything in the huge ZvZ clash.
- The downed-state teleport is handy for getting you back behind your own lines where an opponents thief will wait in stealth and spike you regardless.
The mob has spoken and the turrets shall be burnt at the stake.
Grenade Engineer is ridiculous… Once you hit level 60 and gain access to the grandmaster trait, giving grenades effectively +50% damage(3 instead of 2 grenades) and 1500 range. Before that, it’s kinda lackkluster and engi is one of the hardest classes to level through the lower levels anyway.
Necromancer with Marks and Wells can be ridiculous too. Bonus for being the hardest to kill out of any heavy AoE classes.
I mentioned these 2 classes first because they are hardly ever played. Necromancer got a bunch of bugged traits and a narrowed-down traitline, making it hard to build anything flexible. Most builds do exceptionally well in one thing and suck at the rest but necro is a hard counter to most classes considered op right now.
Corrupt Boon eats Elementalists alive, wells and marks screw up backstab thieves.
Also Lich and Plague can really turn a zerg battle.
Also Elementalist but d/d is waaaaay superior to any staff build. You could play a signet-Auramancer tho. It’s a real kitten Staff support build.

just roll a necro and spam marks and wells on every downed player you see…

since as an Elementalist I always wanted a fourth utility slot instead of an elite slot, the point is, as many pointed out already, to pick stuff with a strong elite.
So no Asura.
Also no Charr. Just doesn’t cut it, awesome as Charrzooka may look.
What’s Useful:
Human: Reaper of Grenth sounds awesome for a dd ele, avatar of Melandru is awesome anyway.
Norn: Snow Leopard. Aka “Wait… where did that Norn go?”
Sylvari: Take Root is awesome coupled with the native regeneration of elementalists and the ton of healing skills. Can make you invulnerable in a clutch situation to reg up some health and get some heals/escapes off cooldown. Also summons 3 sources of bleeding.

Of course Asurans make great warriors.
Asuran’s outstanding expertise (aka ‘attitude’) means that they’re great at everything. Why would Warrior be any exception?

Doing Karma/XP runs on camps, the lake, rinse repeat, I’ve leveled the fastest toon in 8 days, the longest of those four in 11 days. Every toon had 11 to 12 gold, which was spent on jewelry, and weapons, all exotic of course. Then I spent 5-7 days finishing my Karma out, to buy the Exotic Karma gear in Orr, from the Karma merchants.
Which Karma/XP runs during leveling, “the lake” places did you use? I only recently got my first 80, and I’m gold starved and trying to farm for exotics, so I’d like to level up my next classes that way so I can equip them correctly at 80.
Go to an enemies borderlands, peferrably with the outmanned buff for the 33% bonus. Make sure you have a group, if you’re all low levels, or 3-4 if you have an 80 with you. You can even do it as a Zerg. Take camps, but don’t make it too obvious which one you’re going to next, and the enemy goes back to reflip them allowing for a constant run.
Intercepting Dolyaks is more useful for your team and it’s more likely you get to snatch some lone opponents on the way for badges.

My Sylvari dreamt of Skritt.
Skritt being tortured by the Nightmare Court, Skritt being mutilated by crazed Inquest scientists, Skritt being exterminated by stupid Humans…
She also dreamt of countless shinies. Glittering shinies. Useful ones, pretty ones and potentially dangerous ones. A huge pile of shinies and a couple Skritt decorating their cave with them. She was deeply entranced by the peaceful sight of the Skritt sorting their shinies. Suddenly, the Skritt began to panick. Bandits stormed the cave and took all their shinies.
She dreamt of crying Skritt, broken shinies and a lot of dead bodies.
After her awakening, she decided to spend her life for the Skritts sake. Following that line, my Sylvari will never hurt a single Skritt during all her existance! (Might make an exception for skill challenges)

I’d suggest not to play a rifle warrior.
The more tanky you go, the less damage you deal. The less damage you deal, the more useless will the rifle be. If you wanna go ranged tank with warrior, grab a longbow.
But then again there’s way better ranged tank builds out there.

Oil is good to buy time. The opponents need to take it down before doing anything to the gate, unless they go for kata/treb.

Nah even better, let’s designate a few spots on the map where siege is allowed.

Depends on your build.
Just grab a bunch of immobilizes and he will curse you.
Also corrupt boon :>
There’s so many stuff which can kitten over an elementalist. People just tend to run stupid glass canon builds and that’s their own kitten fault :>
ALSO:
We are talking underleveled characters here. The point ele becomes hard to kill is level 80 with decent gear.

for me, running a sword/pistol thief lev 20(started WvWvW from 16 or so) worked just fine, dunno your problem with melee. Just need to contribute with blinding powder and scorp wire, dazing anyone trying to fire off something big. When the lines break down, you do the killing. infiltrators strike -> pistol whip, let him for the follow up, steal to the next, haste-pistol whip from behind etc.
You just apply some stopping power, tag them while you are at it and then move on to the next as there’s a group, clearing up anyway and your damage does kitten.
Of course, I used short bow from time to time but that was just to tag to get some xp.
“A ranged option” is a ranged option. You still need some stopping power if you wanna be of any use.

Guardian:
Hard to burst down
Can bring lots of heal and boons on the field
Easy access to loads of instant(non-projectile) immobilisation
Warrior:
Banners are AWESOME.
Nice ranged support and huge combo field with longbow
Banners are AWESOME.
Can use shouts to buff allies.
Did I already say, that banners are awesome?
Thief:
Great chasing potential, needs some brain tho.
Can chain immobilises and stuns on escaping opponents(I highly recommend Sword/pistol for low lev play)
GET OVER HERE!
Can escape from almost anything with infiltrators arrow, invisibility, blinding powder and a bunch of other blinds and cripples.
Weak against walls!
Elementalist:
Can pin down opponents for the zerg
Can rain doom on the opponents
Can cover huge parts of walls with AoE
Requires you only to react to what happens around you, if you play with a staff, very intuitive playstyle.
Squishy!
Squishy!
Very squishy!
Very dependant on gear, especially in PvE.
Engineer:
Can’t say much about this one. It’s hard. Engineers just don’t seem to offer much until they got high levels.
Necromancer:
Marks are awesome. No matter your level. Obviously, they pack more punch the further you go.
High survivability.
Can grab, pull and chill unsuspecting victims – all in one move!
Can cover walls with AoE.
Mesmer:
Temporal curtain, chaos storm, null field, Time Warp, Mass invisibility, […], this, that and this too… It’d be easier to list the skills which are NOT useful in WvWvW.
Ranger:
Seriously, don’t play them.
