Taking a break from GW2 to play various
Nintendo games..
Okay this thread is getting a little out of hand. At first the OP was nice and polite, but now hes gotten quite agressive about this. Plus he ignored my last post on this thread that frames this situation quite nicely.
But whatever, people don’t like their beliefs to be argued with. Anyway OP, this thread will accomplish nothing because nothing you ever say or do will be enough to sway those like myself that are in favor of GvGs.
Yeah thats true. I guess I should just go with what wins games better, but when most opposing teams have 2 burst classes, I’m basically neutralized the whole fight.
Are your actions aimed at helping increase your world score? You have your answer.
Sigh. We will never be able to resolve this argument. Let me reiterate that WvW is a sandbox, and though it doesn’t seem right, you can’t tell guilds GvGing in their BL or looking for fights to stop because the server hivemind is made up of many differing beliefs and differing perceptions of what is and isn’t fun or just. While I’m totally down to help out with PPT sometimes, as my guild is, I personally don’t really care whether or not my server wins. I care more about having fun. And if fun to me is sitting around watching other guilds GvG or being in a GvG myself, then you have no right to tell me that I should stop having fun. If the queues are getting in the way of your fun in regards to working towards sieging, then thats tough luck. Queues can easily get in the way of me running with my guild or keep me from spectating GvGs or doing what I think is fun too, and thats fair.
But WvW is too open in its possibiliities, choices, and options that one person or group of person cannot decide what is universally right or wrong in a sandbox setting. An exception to that is spying and griefing, and players do what they can to minimize that, like verify server TS permissions and whatnot.
Yeah the September date makes sense. Go to the thread and ask if they’ll look at player feedback but they should give us a sense of what changes they’re planning.
Well you can always boons trip with idisenchanter. The only CC applied really are chaos storm rngness and cripple if trained on clone death.
So I’ve started solo queuing on mesmer and while I like the burst shatter specs I hate being play things for thieves and medi guards so I’m tempted to go back to the PU condition spec which is the easiest mesmer build to play well.
Will I be a detriment to my team if I run this spec or a more power based PU spec?
I like a lot of these ideas, but the Victory or Death idea is a bit absurd sounding in my mind lol. The mercenary system wouldn’t be good, as we don’t want hotjoin GvG, we want guilds that have a strong connection with eachother.
And also no siege other than rams plz. ACs would just make it annoying and dumb.
@OP
Wait, I’m confused. You don’t mind that people are playing how they want, you don’t mind they are having fun, but their way of having fun is interfering with your fun and would like them to take it elsewhere because of queing issues? I’m just trying to understand your point…
However I would say that GvG even in BLs would actually be helpful. They are specially quipped and trained to deal with zergs. So instead why not work WITH them? If they are intercepting zergs, other guilds or not, you can go and take points. Gather a point capturing group and go cap points while the GvGers deal with the other zergs/GvGers? If the enemy zerg is occupied, they aren’t capping points, or defending, making it easier for your group to capture them. It seems that in general you are upset, not about server ques, but that others aren’t playing how you expect them to. Go get a commander tag, and organize WITH the GvGers and go do what you have fun doing. And in the end everyone wins.
Their not there to intercept zergs or work with anyone.. they are using a WvW map as a free PvP arena.. We all understand they don’t have alot of choice but we also understand that it messes with map queues if you host on your own BL during primetime.
Yeah, but telling guilds not to do that is pointless.
You’re better off trying to get the Devs to make structured GvG real or to make overflows for the OS like everyone has been trying to do for a very long time, which would actually make everyone 100% happy, but the devs won’t listen. Until then, guilds are free and certainly allowed to do as they please because of the sandbox nature of WvW.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Ready-Up-Episode-18-7-25-Noon-PDT/first#post4231316
Basically theyre doing a mini-discussion about upcoming balance changes for engineers and rangers on Friday’s ready up.
Huzzah!
Vs no armor? Really?
Let’s be honest here – if you’re getting hit for more than 12k by an evis that warrior is full glass and can melt if you focus him.
Of course he hits hard with 0 defense.
Which was really my point. All those high hits only work because they’re from a glass cannon in a very good scenario. Heck, I run axe/shield with Knight armor and Berserker trinkets and I pretty much never see >10k eviscerates.
Then can you explain that guys screenshot?
Jeez, this thread is still alive. I though it was pretty much finished yesterday, but I guess not. Wasn’t the OP “Done” now too, I recall him saying that maybe 3 or four times, yet he still thinks he can make a valid point by replying. Just end it. I though I summed it up quite nicely when I said “There is literally nothing you could ever do about it, so don’t waste your breath”, but I guess the message wasn’t received.
Yeah I was a little concerned and alarmed when he jumped my harmless, happy post about the sandbox nature of WvW with very threatening and alarmingly absurd ideas. Which kind of set. me. off.
I thought Ajax was on AR? Did he go back to Kain again? :o
Also +1 for Eredon Terrace just because i’m on itYeah I heard Ajax returned to Kaineng… Maybe he saw that they made a ranger-only guild on his name and decided to go back.
Should consider joining kaineng. We have the greatest player in the game here. He’s really good at spreading his wisdom.
The legendary Ajax Blue has returned to Kaineng once again?
I have so many memories of him when I was on kaineng for all of last summer.
Sorry but no, just no. Is straw man your only way to argue ppl? I NEVER EVER said anything remotely close to “everyone in the map has to be actively contributing towards PPT 24/7”. This is pure BS. I’m merely saying, be mindful of the impact your play style has on the game. It wasn’t particularly fun to be queue on EBG only to find out that several guilds were doing their little business without PPting at all.
So let me try to understand this, you may have never said that everyone has to contribute to PPT all the time, but you also feel despondent when you can’t get into a map when guilds aren’t PPTing? If we’re not supposed to PPT all the time, what else is there to do, run around in circles and have picnics with hylek in EBG?
That sounds like a direct contradiction to me.
And yeah your hypothetical GvG busting guild, even if it did get formed, wouldn’t amount to anything more than a single drop in a limitless ocean.

To clarify a point in the original post:
Regarding the “Skill Bar” segment, we’re going to be covering future balance updates for both the ranger and engineer. We’re only covering two on each episode because we want to make sure we’re conveying the information in a more easily digestible manner, and we want to make sure we’re giving every profession its due in terms of coverage.
More professions will be covered in the coming weeks.
-Grouch
Okay I totally understand ranger being first, but why engineer so soon? Or is it just picked randomly? Just wondering, though, since I’m just glad that we get to hear about what you guys have in mind at all and that we’ll hear about each profession eventually
We thought about doing it alphabetically, but then we were like, “BOOM, WE’RE SPONTANEOUS!”
Hahaha I appreciate that spontaneity!
I just hope necro and mesmer won’t be last as they need almost as much love as the ranger and patience is not my virtue!

Also last I checked this thread was about DPS, maybe I was wrong.
Well if we’re talking speedclears, almost everything should be dead within 30 seconds, and maybe thief could get its group a better time by providing more stealth for trash skips than an engi could.
Anything goes there, and no one should complain about how other players and groups of players spend their time there.
Really? So, like I said earlier, if I make a guild whose sole purpose is to track and wreck any GvG activities you will still think that? I can already see the Guild sig [GvGW] (GvG Wrecking crew). When you play the "anything goes "card, you better be prepared for “anything”. This is a very absurd stance to be blunt about it.
Then bring it. If you assjam my guild or any other guild during a GvG we can and WILL wipe you. You may have ruined a GvG match, but we’ll just reset it elsewhere where you can’t find us. Thats assuming you find enough unpleasant people that are actually good ZvZ players to even make such a guild, which I doubt that you will. They’re all in guilds they’re absolutely loyal to, and tend to appreciate GvG and respect it as an important community function of WvW guilds even if they don’t participate. And I’m sure such a thing would ruin the reputation of your guild and anyone in that guild.
While my guild typically focuses on fights in open field against other guilds (we’re reforming our GvG team now since we just moved), we do our fair share to help out the PPT good of the server. We even had an open server wide raid on SoS that anyone could join, in which we captured objectives while fighting off enemy guilds along the way. Most other guilds I know that are fight oriented and that have GvG teams do not just run around not contributing anything to WvW, they take objectives and help take objectives, and they fight off enemy servers so pugs can cap things without being stopped.
Anyway, as for the sandboxy nature of WvW, where anything really does go, there are images and reputations to be upheld. Many guilds only assjam others if the guild they want to assjam has previously done it to them.
In other games, like the extremely sandboxy but kinda bland archeage, there a player based justice systems that let other players punish one another for commiting crimes against allied players. It’d be cool if something like that could help persecute spys or siege trolls or whatever, as there isn’t an actual crime system in WvW and nor should there be. Guilds fighting other guilds in organized and fair matches in open fields is perfectly fine.
If anything you’re one being absurd here by stating that everyone in the map has to be actively contributing towards PPT 24/7, when people who enjoy guilds fighting other guilds don’t take away anything from said PPT and in many cases provide assistance whether direct or inderect to helping their server gain points.
I had some elites thought up on another thread but that thread died. Here you go.

Yeah only pain would be is map compleation later on :/
Still I want to try the EOTM
Is there a badge vender in EOTM or do you have to go into EB??
They should be in EGB and any BL
Since you’re a necromancer I highly recommend getting a full set of Rabid from the Orr vendors with all that karma. You can kick some major kitten in WvW with epidemic. Loot bags for days.
Its okay, but power with wells can tag just as well and contribute way more in organized guild fights
While it wuld be nice if the devs finally gave us a structured GvG system separate from WvW, it exists fine and healthily enough in WvW’s current state.
WvW is meant to be an ultimate endgame sandbox of realm vs. realm combat.
Anything goes there, and no one should complain about how other players and groups of players spend their time there.
Well it used to be a very strong and useful trait, but Anet decided to nerf it to the ground and reduce mesmers to a portal/veil bot in WvW while also nerfing confusion damage across the board.
They 100% killed what was probably the best and most viable condition damage spec to ever exist in WvW and now its hard to get loot bags on a mesmer as a result. Its also made confusion weaker in pvp, so this is an example of total over balancing that hurt the mesmer quite a bit.
Hey thanks for the reply. I actualy have 3 level 80’s already but have not played since before EOTM came in.
Thanks for the info about badges of honour tho as never really done much WvWvWThanks alot man
OH! My mistake, I assumed you were a new player that had never played this game before, in which case leveling with Eotm only would make you miss out on the basic premise of the game, but since you have other 80s its perfectly fine to streamline the leveling process as much as possible.
inb4 Forum"warriors" storming this thread.
Something has to be wrong, when a single skill deals 12k damage, heatseeking, doing 180s in midair and all that on a 7-10s cd.
Mind, that is only 1 skill. If it was the only i ever had to dodge against a warrior, it probably would be ok, or if the warrior was somewhere as squishy as a thief built for that amount of damage. But in combination with their abnormal mobility, damage/condition/cc immunity, reg, innate high toughness and vitality and overall high damage, it’s simply too much.
Please flame me, now.
Here’s an Axe Warrior in full Ascended gear, with food.
Assuming that he crits, has 25 stacks of Might and 25 stacks of Bloodlust, he will deal 12k damage if:
900×3645×2.3x1.05×1.07×1.05x3 / A = 12000
A = 26,702,474 / 12000
A = 2,225A full ascended Warrior in near-perfect conditions will deal your 12k damage if:
- He’s facing a light armor character with <342 extra Toughness
- He’s facing a medium armor character with <191 extra Toughness
- He’s facing a heavy armor character with <38 extra Toughness
Those are pretty low numbers, considering that:
- A traitline can give up to 300 Toughness
- Ascended armor gives 235 for Minor and 329 for Major in Toughness
- Runes of Melandru give 175 Toughness
For comparison, against this condi bunker warrior our Axe Warrior is going to dish out a far less impressive 8,261 hit. If he crits. And if he runs into his Knighted clone he’s going to be at 6,780 damage.
Conclusion: 12k hits are not a common thing outside of glass cannon vs glass cannon fights.
Personal experience: I run Axe a lot in WvW. The one thing that always trips me with Axe is that it has kitten mobility. Even with 50% uptime on Swiftness and 100% uptime on 25% movement speed, people still get away from me easily. The reason for that is that the only thing Axe offers to keep things in place is a puny cripple, which really isn’t enough.
How much might does one need to hit 12K in spvp on a light armored target with no toughness? Since most mesmers have to run glkittenter in order to do anything in pvp.
The best new Ele elite is obviously going into the Avatar state.
Stopping attuenments and wielding all the elements at once to crush your enemies!!
And the necro one the OP mentioned should be a well instead of a mark and should siphoning 3% life force per target per pulse while doing damage equal to or greater than well of suffering.
A mesmer idea I had is based on the psionicist time loop skill from allods online. Its called mantra of time, and using it would allow you to move to teleport to the location you were at 10 seconds ago, and with the health and cooldowns, and boons and conditions you had on you at that time, essentially resetting your own time a bit using that skill. It would be excellent for disengaging and strategically repositioning and can also be used as a pusedo heal cleanse or to do more with burst. The only issue would be with clones/phantasms which the class in the game I’m basing it off of didn’t exactly have in the same way. So maybe using the mantra to go back in time would destroy all a illusions? That could also keep from being too offensively overpowered on phantasm builds.
(edited by nearlight.3064)
WTB energy sigil buff and a new trait that applies 30 seconds of vigor to necromancers whenever a warrior comes withing 1500 range feet units whatever.
Torch, sword and pistol are in all honesty friggen awesome offhand weapons (focus in theory is, but the unreliability and bugs deem otherwise).
I’ve had equal amount of success with the three in different situations and regularly trade them out accordingly.
Thanks for your feedback guys, its really helpful!
Part of the reason why I ask is that I have a penchant for the legendary offhands, and after making howler for my necromancer like 10 days ago, I’m deciding which one I will making after I get ascended weapons for mes/necro. I was considering rodgort, the minstrel, and quip, but since I tend to do the best in WvW and pvp with torch, I’ll probably make rodgort, since its awesome and relatively cheap.
The Necro ones are very useful.
the only one I have a problem with is the moa-form, I wish there was a way to get turned into one in the mists to practice those skills
yeah plague is so nice.
And yesterday I saw a youtube video where a guy was moaed and precided to peck the mesmer down and killed him, and it was so funny!
but usallly if I get moaded I just run away.
I’m totally fine with doing story runs under level 80. Its a good way to immerse yourself into the game if you’re new and learn how dungeons work.
You will need to make sure that your group is okay with essentially carrying you though, but most people shouldn’t mind too much if its story though. For explorable, the challenge is steeper so notbeing 80 can hinder your group a bit more.
You can buy full sets of armor with Karma, in Orr.
yeah but you can’t salvage it and you can’t get berserker stats from that I don’t think.
OP, I’d do CoF p1 runs each day for berserker gear. Check out Spoj’s necromancer PvE guide on dulfy’s GW2 blog, it will explain everything you need to know. Scholar runes are nice if you can get them, but they’re kind of expensive so any rune that offers power can work in the short term.
For ascended gear, which you should start accumulating, you can buy amulets with laurels or laurels+250 WvW badges, and you also use laurels to buy rings, but getting into fractals of the mists and progressing them every day can get you more rings for free, however its a difficult dungeon that recently got a bit harder as one of the mosses now deals much more damage at lower levels. For accessories, doing guild missions with a good guild can get you 1 of them every two weeks. For an ascended back, you can get one from doing a TON of fractals or for paying 100+ gold to make one. You may want to make the shadow of grenth backpiece as its necromantic in appearance, but you need to level tailoring to 500 first which is kinda pricey, and there are a few slightly cheaper mystic forge backpiece options, but they are still really expensive.
After you ascend your trinkets you can start working towards ascended or legendary weapons and armor. For all your karma, I’d definetly suggest buying obsidian shards with them. You need those to make ascended weapons/armor and you need roughly 481of the them to make a legendary weapon (and a crap ton of other expensive stuff).
Oh, also feel free to mail or whisper me ingame. I can answer any other questions and teach some of the easier dungeon paths if you want to learn them.
(edited by nearlight.3064)
Meh am leaning towards selling it as i Want Bonnit’s Rapier (think thats how you spell it lol).
Thats a good idea, since bonetti’s rapier is a much cheaper but still very stylish sword skin, so you’d get like 30 extra gold after selling that!
You can level using Edge of the Mists, but if this is your first 80 I feel like its a really bad idea to not level the traditionally way.
Sure it will be several times harder, and harder still as a mesmer, but if you ignore the challenge of open world leveling and immersing yourself in the personal story, then you’ll hit 80 and know very little about the game or your class or what to even do in the game. Using the Eotm will also set you behind on map completion, which is important so you have waypoints in every zone you need to go to or so that you’re not massively behind if you every want to make a legendary and have to complete maps for it.
The advantage of Eotm leveling is that you get badges of honor which can buy you exotic (2nd best) gear when you hit 80. This makes gearing up for armor/weapons easier before you start getting ascended trinkets with laurels, fractals, or guild missions, however be careful that you don’t put valuable runes or sigils into WvW badge gear because you can’t salvage those, but it could be nice placeholder while you farm a dungeon exotic set that you can salvage, so you can keep the upgrades if you ever get ascended weapons.
Anyway its up to you whether you want an easy leveling experience that takes you away from learning and immersing yourself in the game, or if you’d prefer a much harder way to level that lets you get to know the game world better. That depends on what your trying to get out of GW2 though, and I’ve listed the pros and cons of each.
Yeah I leveled mesmer as my first 80 last winter and it was quite the strugglebus.
I remember my PvX guildmates at the time dragging me to AC p2 when I was level 50 as my first dungeon in this game, and that scared me away from PvE for the longest time.
But yeah mesmer has always been the hardest class to level. Its not impossible, but very aggravating given our minimal access to speed boosts and the aforementioned trait dependence. If you stick through it though and ask for help when you need it (you can whisper me ingame and I can help you out if I’m not too busy) you can level, but it will be painful challenge when you’re solo.
The dire balance state of the mesmer, as well other classes I play such as necro (mainly for pve balance) has tempted me to look for another MMO to play (with no sub fee). But I really can’t find anything else I’d actually want to play. All the other subless MMOs seem to be korean p2win grindfests. And I’m too busy being a college student to actually pay for something like wildstar or ESO which aren’t even that great, and I honestly don’t think I could handle the grindy ridgid quest based leveling process of themepark MMOs, whereas in GW2 you can do anything and you’ll reach max level in a few weeks if you play enough, every other MMO I quit before max level.
I tried looking into Archeage for its sandboxy nature that seemed cool, but I really don’t think I could go back to an MMO where basic spell attacks have a 3 seconds or longer casting time in which the user is rooted. Their world seems really immersive and interesting, but after experiencing GW2’s combat, I really don’t think I could play such a dated or immobile system, and archeage’s skill lines all look rather boring in my opinion.
In GW2 the combat is so fast paced and mobile and responsive that I couldn’t play any other MMO, and I genuinely like the professions, including the mesmer. Sure its difficult, but my mesmer and necromancer are my favorite things to play ever and I want to stick with them as long as I can.
But I can understand why some of the more veteran and experienced players would quit gw2, as I did from october to may of this year. Other things in life become more important and things get tiring. PvE in this game has gotten really tiring for me after making Howler recently. Now I can only stomach to do 2-3 runs of CoF/SE in a day and Tequatl or the Wurm for my income, and I’ve been focusing on getting better at solo q and WvW. I still need to make 4-5 ascended weapons for my characters, and I’m tempted to make another legendary, but the thought of spanking the spider queen 3 times a day with bad pugs is scaring me to death.
Anyway, I love the mesmer, but its really up to our patience and priorities to decide whether we can stick with this class, and game
So… how does a Mesmer punish the missteps of a zerg in WvW?
I think he meant that the class punishes users of the class for their misteps, not the class punishing others for their misteps, which is how things should be.
How would they even fix it? Give every asura an elephant dose of growth hormone and watch as they become giant but more menacing than cute creatures?
Are you really that hung up over the cancer thing?
Also just so the convo doesn’t derail too much, if you think engie isn’t 2nd DPS, maybe you’d like to tell me what you think it is.
Yeah I am in case you didn’t notice.
While I’m all for people respectfully disagreeing with others about certain things and standing up for their beliefs and opinions, I was really deeply hurt and offended by your comment and that you made no attempt to apologize.
I work in a cancer research center, its a big deal to me. I understand that you’re very opinionated about your beliefs, but I feel like much of your comments, especially the one’s previously directed towards me and the necromancer community in general were particularly hurtful and spiteful.
As someone who actually plays necromancer,
Yes Axe training’s damage modifier factors into the damage of lifeblast. Assuming ascended weapons, axe/x damage is 1000, and staff damage is 1100, so with axe training, axe/x damage is 1000*.10=1100, which makes using either staff or a traited axe the way to maximize life blast damage. Sigils of force should also bring their extra multiplier into the equation, but if you want to be absolutely sure, I recommend going to dulfy’s GW2 blog and looking for the necromancer PvE guide written by Spoj, he tested everything regarding necromancer damage in PvE.
Also for future reference OP, I suggest posting necromancer related questions in the necromancer section of the forums, we’ll be able to give you better answers than non-necros and we won’t troll you, we’ll only help you and provide constructive advice!
And the epic showdown between Zelyhn, a champion of the informed and knowledgable vs. Guang, the person who called me cancer on the necro threads, has begun.
Go zelyhn go!
For pvp, I don,t think mesmer is a bad class and since it’s fun, I’ll be playing it even if it’s the worst class. But I heard recently on the /map that mesmer got the highest burst on pvp and my mind was blown (I thought that mesmers and guards had the lowest burst ).
The highest “theoretical” burst in pvp is fresh air scepter/dagger elementalist, if you define burst as a combo of damage happening all withing the span of a single second, before an opponent can react. Thief is only slightly behind Ele in this regard, and glkittenter mesmer might come right after that, but I’m not really sure. It could be triple static discharge engi for all I know.
2 months ago this top tierish thief called yishis was working with ele and thief theorycrafters to determing the highest possible burst. I think he planned on working on mesmer and warrior max burst numbers after that but I don’t know if he ever got around to it.
For PvE, ele conjured weapons (FGS 4+wall/Icebow 4) have the best burst in that environment. After that thief and necromancer are suggested to have the best burst within like 7 seconds or something like that, but a lot of people have disputed the necro claims.
Awww this is a really nice post!
While I love joking about this forum feeling like a suicide forum, its somehow made me go back and appreciate my mesmer a bit more. I also have been maining necro recently, and ele before that and there are so many things I absolutely love about this class.
Sure I may 2-shotted by thieves and warriors, but it takes many deaths and perserverance to learn and improve. I’ve also loved watching mesmer videos on youtube (as for necro as well) and it makes me sad that my laptop is too bad to record my own and dazzle everyone with my great taste in music and edited footage of skilled gameplay.
If you want player housing go play archeage and enjoy its clunky, outdated, bland, and nearly immobile combat system and all of its 3 seconds cast times!
3) Bring back the original GW classes focused on “holy”, religion, buffing, healing. Combine the dervish and the paragon to make some sort of inspirational religious zealot with huge buffing potential. Bring back the monk entirely reworked to have better offensive capabilities yet effective focused healing. Things like this could work wonders with GW2.
May I introduce you to GW2’s new profession, the Guardian! What a great addition to the game!
I like your videos a lot! Your mesmer’s utter beauty and wealth of the most expensive of legendary weapons is one of the primary reasons why I watch your videos :o
Alright yeah that makes sense completely. The torch out does sword defensively for the reasons you mentioned, and I feel like it’d be probably the best weapon to use for most situations. I usually play power PU or shatter, which can both enjoy torchiness
A shame about the focus though, do you think Anet would ever make it a decent weapon again? (outside of pve I mean)
And its kind of odd how they never fixed the swiftness bug with focus 4..
Well OP, I’ve only been on SoS for a week, but I don’t fully agree with you about everything. Yeah the hammer trains are punishing to us peripherals, but you just need to learn how to dodge it and not mindless walk into static fields without stab. The hammer train can’t turn in mid leap, so use that to your advantage and dodge it.
As for a condi zerg meta, I haven’t really noticed it when fighting Mag or FA, but my guild always has boatloads of cleanses, so thats probably why. Every so often we might be assjammed by a group with 10 necros, but thats life.
Any way as for the rest of your post, I’m not sure if I wholly agree with you. Didn’t anet raise celestial’s base stats to offset the ferocity change? And as for mistform, if I can’t heal or use utilites in deathshroud or plague, I don’t see why eles should be allowed to do either of those things in mist form. Granted mesmers can with distortion, but thats different because they have to sacrifice damage in order to use that panic button. And aren’t most staff eles traited so that they get a single cleanse from cantrips? And theres also lemongrass to help with the condi spam if you really feel like its that much of an issue.
Most people would argue with you that the meta has shifted away from condition damage, especially for zergs. I personally feel like I do way more damage to an enemy guild on a power necro spec than a condition spec, and the chill and weakness and whatnot is just extra stuff that helps alot but I never really even spec for anymore.
Anyway for examples of over class balancing look at 1. The mesmer glamour nerf that reduced them to a ganker utility bot in WvW, and 2. The necro dhuumfire nerf (and nerf of several unrelated skills to compensate for it, before reworking dhuuumfire and leaving all the other nerfs in place).
Since getting back into mesmer for WvW veiling and ganking, as well as some solo q for that champ illusionist title, I’ve been debating about what the best all around offhand for mesmer is for these situations, in either a 4/4/6/0/0 or 4/4/0/0/6 set up with GS or staff as the other weapon.
Sword is a great pve offhand, but since I don’t pve much anymore I’m not considering this really. But the block is a good defensive skill and the phantasm is low cooldown and pretty decent.
Pistol has a great phantasm and a great stun making it a great offensive option. Its only problem is that it doesn’t give you any defensive utility, but that can be alleviated by running staff over GS (for pvp anyway).
Torch provides great defensive utility regardless of running PU or not, and the traiting for condi cleanse can be very helpful. Even in a power build, the burn can add a lot to burst and overall pressure. The phantasm is kinda meh, but its nice if you just plan to get a cleanse from it or to just shatter it straight off.
Focus movement speed is wonderful, but this weapon is bugged as hell, and since the nerf that prevents you from detonating the pull right away, its a bit easy for enemies to avoid. I’ve been using centaur runes for wvw, so the swiftness isn’t as vital, and I find the phantasm to be kind of lack luster and easy for an enemy to avoid and ignore.
Are people seriously asking for consume plasma nerf? /facepalm
You can facepalm as often as you want, but yes, that is what I was suggesting since release. It is not a game breaking skill, however, it gives the thieve an advantage that is neither in line with other steal items, doesn’t fit in the mesmer characteristics, from which the item “originates” nor is it fair in a straight up fight. Why does the thief need stability next to all the other boons from consume plasma when fighting a mesmer?
why doesd mes need invul
why does need mes stealth spam
why does mes need perma protection/regen when he spams stealth
why does mes needs crap load of pets on demand
why does mes can do 3 different things with his pet via F1,2,3 while thief can do only 1?
why do mes pets follow me even if mes not targetting me?
why do mes pets can body block my backstab?
why are mes pets allowed to attack me when mes and my thief are both in downed state?
why is that, that if i kill mes pets i take crap load of dmg, if i don’t kill them i still take crap load of dmg?
why does mes has a port and can have treb up for his team 24/7 on khylo map?
there are PLENTY of crap that mes has and that make thief life unbearable
just because some other steal spells are actually garbage and hardly usefull outside of very few ocasions, doesn’t mean that consume plasma has to be garbage too
oh and btw YOU CAN DODGE steal, not that is hard for a mes which mindlessly spams dodge non stop to generate more AI
bottom line, mesmers have enough spells/features that make them really stupid in many ways… consume plasma can be waited out, stipped or even converted if necro is nearbly
trust me, you are not losing fights because of thief steal
I have a friend who plays mesmer and thief and he rakes a dump on any thief he meets on his mes. So issue is not cosume plasma, the issue is between chair and monitor.
Well if you play PU condition with scepter torch, then the thief is pretty much dead.
If you play glkittenter, though the thief can burst you down quite easily, as the mesmer is paper and will often play much more aggressively than PU condition, meaning that its a lot easier to pick the mesmer out.
And lets not forgot how viable PU builds are in tpvp for how great they are at holding points. Oh wait, that was sarcasm.
On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest (imho)
Necromancer: 3. Kind of up on some builds (terror mancer, some power necro spec’s, etc). Not too bad to deal with but certainly has a lot of sustain even when not entirely focused on it.
Elementalist: 4. They have received a large number of nerfs which indirectly ruined other builds. The changes towards them need more thought not in just how it effects a specific build but how it affects the profession as a whole. This is true for most professions sadly.
These are the only two points I don’t fully agree with.
Necromancers need the must work for PvE because they have no prescenece in speed clears and pugs go on necro kicking sprees (along with rangers). In WvW, they are in a perfect place. In pvp, condition builds just need more life force generation, since its a bit weak on the scepter and staff (without soul marks). Other than they they’re mostly fine imo as long as their team can help negate focus fire for them.
Eles had a lot of old nerfs reverted in April, and together with PF and Fresh Air I think they’re in a mostly great spot across the board, but are slightly underpowered in spvp due to their reliance of might stacking to deal damage.
That was my point for ele, they are in a pretty strong spot but at the same time it’s not like they have all the windows in the world opened up. Also suggesting a nerf to them would seem unfair (although I entirely think some spec’s of theirs deserve it) because they did spend a long time of suffering. Necromancer could use some pve love but it’s not like they can’t do dungeons well, they just aren’t visible with the tunnel vision mentality that the elitists wear all the time.
Yeah exactly! Like ele should not be nerfed at all since they really are in a good place for the most part, and any imbalance regarding them is more relegated to strength runes or celestial stats as a whole, which isn’t too significant. After playing ele enough I can counter them on necro and mesmer, since you really just have to soak/avoid their main might stacking burst rotation and keep the boon removal pressure up.
Yeah and the necro hate is a big reason why I’ve been quitting dungeons for the most part, and have just been doing pvp/wvw while flipping to make money.
As for other classes, like thieves for example, I think thieves are fine in themselves, but some of the classes they have a clear complete superiority against, like glassy light armor classes (fresh air ele and shatter mesmer) could stand to be buffed in some aspects to counter thieves a tad better while still being able to play a burst spec. But thats just my opinion, as I die in like 2 hits if I play a non condition mesmer against a thief.
There’s power PU too !
Yeah power PU is pretty nice when you’re on veil duty for your guild and you want to stay alive, especially with torch cleanses. You can even spec to have stronger shatters and whatnot, you just can’t lock targets down and mindwrack them as frequently and without the 4th self shatter, but when you have thieves in your gank squad, that hardly makes a difference.
