u can play trap/axe/torch with spirit elite for tpvp. i hate it, but there it is.
for spvp, more things work. im playing GS/SB beastmaster with 3 signets and RaO. lots of sustain and great damage.
the major problem with 5v5 now is that people ragequit very often, so all servers have high turnover, which causes more serious balance issues before autobalancing kicks in. or even 5vs4 is really bad. small team imbalances arent felt in 8v8. so after playing 5v5 for about two hours tonight, i think im done with it. going back to 8v8 for better rank leveling.
i like GS a lot as a secondary utility weapon. im enjoying GS/SB right now.
i tested spirits, theyre still terrible.
love it. my fav map right now.
so we did away with the bunker ele. now theres just less bunker variety. the main culprits still remain.
thieves still do 16k burst on 1400 toughness targets. you guys nerfed the wrong skills
portals largely unaffected.
therefore, tpvp meta will not be seeing any changes, and overall thief silliness remains in spvp and WvW (thanks for the culling fix in spvp though).
guess my imagination got the better of me. im really tryin here guys. i also almost made a “GS is awesome” thread, but then i realized after 1 hour of testing that it really, really isnt awesome in any way lol.
this patch felt like i got punched in the stomach. i wasted my evening (my own mistake i guess) waiting for the patch, eager to play with new ranger builds. instead, i ended up deleting him.
It really seems like they fixed the wrong Orb on the Guardian, people wanted the scepter Orb speed increased and we instead got the staff Orb speed fixed.
All in all my biggest issue is – they didn’t adjust the capping system at all.
sshh my staff guard loves his faster orb.
well, thieves tickle by BM/power ranger right now. im not saying rangers are amazing or anything, but thieves are definitely not a threat any more.
point is Jon, the changes that you guys did introduce are next to useless! for such a large patch, you gave us nothing we could work with in WvW and Tpvp. my favourite change is the instant activation of signets, which wasnt even in the patch notes.
so once again i ask, when is “next time around”?
JP, when is “next time around”? thanks.
awesome, I can now instantly not activate them on my highly competitive spvp builds.
oh ok, i guess we should all listen to you and not activate signet of stone while receiving gang bangs, not activate SoR when we have 10 conditions on us, and not activate SoW when we wanna do burst.
that will go a long way.
they are now instant, and thats kinda huge.
Eva asked for a “little bit of patience”, so it is likely not coming at noon, or 3pm EST. im gonna go play with my dog, do some groceries, and hope it arrives tonight because ive got work this weekend.
any ETA on any of these fixes?
after the big cannon is destroyed, the story stopped progressing. we waited for about 15 mins. there were two risen grubs stuck inside the ship which we killed with life transfer, but no fix. i also did disconnect right before the big cannon got destroyed, after which is rejoined the party. i dont know if that affected it.
epic endgame moment ruined. i wont be trying again, takes too long. looks like it will take about a year to fix the bugs in the current content by the looks of it.

They couldn’t design better events, or even improve the open world, so they went for a knee jerk bandaid fix. I won’t be grinding infusion gear so I guess I’ll never see late stages of Fractals. Thanks for giving me content that I’m excluded from, content I’ll never see. Sosad to see yet another wow copycat.
I just finished grinding my exotics and nightmare set. And I can’t even wear my sick new gear in the later stages of Fractals. Agony is such a pathetic attempt at improving endgame. I guess designing more interesting encounters and cool armor sets was the harder thing to do so they just bypassed it.

you can do this entire zone with like one or two friends.
im doing dungeons and WvW until tpvp is given the room to evolve. im hoping this patch will make one or two dozen new builds viable, at the competitive level.
they created a huge thread for us to report clipping issues. it’s many pages long. it seemed like they really cared about documenting armor clipping issues, which wasnt the case for GW1. because they took the initiative to get the thread rolling, im wondering if it’s going to be in an upcoming patch soon.
it can be argued that the dozens of serious armor clipping issues are just as important as improving pve, or adding new content. serious armor clipping seriously breaks immersion.
I disagree, GW2 is very much living up to its potential. Besides, you just have to be more patient.
any armor clipping fixes coming this patch? there are too many serious clipping problems to count.
i completely disagree. GW2 plays like a smooth shooter to me. there are tactical aspects, but most of it is dependent on your reactions. it’s a skill-based action RPG. combat is the one thing ANet did perfectly imo.
Just to stay on topic here. I’m 500 hours in, rank 30, one 80 and a few alts. I just can’t get bored. Not complaining or anything.
PvP is great. Good enough for me to invest 250 hours. Problem is meta has finished evolving so soon. More builds need to be viable
Right now there’s like 5 at high level of my play? Lol
not really sure what youre talking about. i have to use all my skills to link up combo finishers and maximize my dps and survivability. why are you asking for more abilities if you cant even use the ones you have to their maximum >.< no one should be spamming autoattack for anything. i mean you could, but youre kittening yourself.
u guys need to chill out and be patient. many good SPVP additions are coming over the next few months. im pretty sure they understand how important SPVP is for the game. balancing, ladder, and obs mode on their own can hugely improve the experience. and all those things are in the works.

Sounds like the game has only gotten worse, think I’ll stay away…
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
uh nope. thats not what i said at all. i actually said the game is doing a lot better. but youre welcome, and it sounds like you just didnt like the game in the first place.
Not sure how to respond here, endgame as a concept has been warped too far to make any sense anymore.
honestly i think it should just mean “stuff to do at max level”, which this game has plenty of. in my OP, i was actually trying to say that if defined traditionally (i.e. gear progression), im still enjoying the end game.
that being said, i never found a point in stat-based progression. it’s really, really silly to be driven by little number increases. vanity, on the other hand, is much more appealing. i love looking the way i want, and not falling behind the gear treadmill.
The fact that there are no duels and very limited 1v1 fight opportunities is surely driving a lot of PvPers away. I will always wonder why MMOs prefer to develop primarily for the group play minority when the much larger percentage of the population would rather have good balanced 1v1 that recognizes their skill in a ladder system.
1v1 balance is actually very good (maybe with the exception of sword/pistol/shatter/staff mesmers, and some bunker builds), so i dont think this is the problem at all. ladder system is definitely a must, but theyre workin on it.
So, what balance changes are we sure we’re getting with this patch?
- Ranger fixes for a lot of their utility, and some of their weapons.
- Stealth fixes and thieves’ burst toned down at the compensation of something else (higher sustained damage?)
- Changes and bug fixes for all 8 professions.
- Possibly some nerfs to bunker builds?
yes, i can say with confidence we’re getting all of the above, based on what jonathan and JP have posted. im not sure about mesmer nerfs…theyre badly needed, especially for portals, but as long as thief and bunker exploits get addressed i’ll be ecstatic.
all parts of the game, except for tpvp (which is stagnating due to a superior, two-dimensional meta), are very healthy. Nov 15th update will create another huge influx of players…expect most servers to be full.
ive had no dilemma bypassing Orr completely. i get all the karma i need from other high level zones and world completion. Orr isnt a terrible zone. it’s just that DE’s need serious tweaking to become more challenging and dynamic.
cant say i understand the complaints about GW2’s endgame. i stopped playing WoW because i couldnt participate in the game’s coolest encounters. i did not have time to grind for gear. therefore, i missed the best PVE and my characters never looked how i wanted them to.
im 500 hours in. im burned out on the current tpvp meta after about 250 hours, so ive been catching up on my PVE. im having a blast in explorable dungeons. ive been runnin TA and Hotw primarily to get my Nightmare and Kodan pieces. i buy cheap exotics to get max stats, then transmute them into my favourite looking sets.
i also run Frostgorge Sound, a few other zones and casual WvW to gain karma for my favourite T3 weapons, which i will transmute with cheap, high-stat exotics. i dont participate in the Orr grindfest. the zone is decent, but i much prefer other 75-80 zones, which also give decent karma.
in conclusion, im able to customize my look while getting max or near-max stats on my gear, by playing my way. anyone else having a blast endgame?
the game is growing, there’s no denying that. people asking for merging are misunderstanding the problem: players arent leaving the game, theyre just concentrated in certain areas of the game, primarily Orr, WvW and dungeons.
Orr needs to be nerfed and the rest of the world rewards need to get buffed so that people have an excuse to spread out. hoping to see some significant changes soon.
i dont see a problem with paid/free tourneys at all. tourneys should be for premades. when they introduce ranking, it will make pugs very happy though. it’s quite easy to earn tickets with a half decent premade team. i earn gold boxes at a decent rate with a casual premade that doesnt follow the meta too stringently.
New MMO’s should not have an expectation of more “time” to only repeat the same mistakes as their predecessors. That’s why people are so quick to leave. We don’t want to have to go through the development cycle “AGAIN” with another company, especially if we’re working on the same problems of previous games.
this is why they must deliver pvp tweaks and content much faster.
and no, i dont think GW2 was released when ready. likely too much pressure from NCSoft toward the end. they could have used another 3 months of large-scale beta testing (like Valve is doing with DOTA2), at least for the pvp aspect of the game, to squash all bugs and horrible balancing/meta problems (hello mesmers, backstab, bunkers). Valve is doing it perfectly.

hey, a few of my friends and i are always looking for more laid back people to grow with in spvp. we’re not a formal team (yet) but you can add me and we’ll see where it goes!
yes. balance rewards across the world so that players have a reason to get out of Orr, dungeons and WvW, which is where everyone is.
again, it’s not the servers that are dropping in pop. populations are concentrated in certain areas of the map.
only one profession that performs “worst” if played perfectly is the ranger. the only viable build is the condition build with traps and spirit elite, and other profs (necro especially) do conditions better and/or have more survivability.
there are other OK builds, such as power/crit and power/pet/regen that give decent survivability and burst with signets, but other profs do it better. for example, my GS/meditation guard brings so much more utility, dps and survivability than my tanky power ranger.
in addition, rest of it goes like this:
- bunker: ele, guard
- mobility/dueling/burst: mesmer, thief
- conditions: necro
- warriors and engies are generally subpar in the above roles, but theyre still kinda viable, which is why you only see a few here and there
unfortunately, the current meta is extremely limiting, and the ranger cannot find itself anywhere. hoping to see some great changes on the 15th, both to the meta and the ranger.
(edited by nerva.7940)
please remember that mesmers are actually the real problem in tpvp, while thieves may dominate spvp. at high levels of play, the sword/pistol/staff mesmer is absolutely brutal and needs serious tuning down. good thieves are balanced in tpvp, while mediocre/bad thieves need not apply.
i actually love the downed state. but it needs tweaks. bunkers should be able to knock people around or get as much stability as they do currently. and thieves should not be able to disappear 3 times before getting stomped. mesmers should not be able to do so much dps. it’s ridiculous.

after hundreds of hours of s/tpvp, i have found myself drifting toward the PVE/WvW side of the game, which is fine. im having a blast.
i still have tons of fun in tpvp, dont get me wrong. but it is obvious that the current meta game is superior to any other, and unfortunately, two-dimensional. it has already finished evolving =(
i have a lot of hope in ANet making some bold tweaks in the 15th patch.
i love it. many interesting builds. they just gotta fix all the bugged traits, and buff some.
nov 15 patch is a big balancing patch, likely to change the meta. at least this is the assumption since they stated they were in the process of tweaking bunkers and burst damage, in addition to fixing many bugs to open up more builds.
if they do a good job, many will come back to check out the new map and paid tourneys.
i liked it until i got GUILD armor from paid token + sliver 3 times, instead of, say, Inquest. right now im scared to put another paid token in there.
They would need to halve the number of servers to save the game, but oh well.. I guess they’ll wait until it’s too late.
uh no, they need to adjust rewards so people have a reason to visit the rest of the world. most servers are still full or high pop. the pop has actually grown since release.
everyone is in 1) Orr, 2) WvW, and to a lesser extent 3) dungeons and spvp
im doing wvw, dungeons and tpvp now. my world PVE has ended at Frostgorge Sound, which is my favourite zone. i went into Orr for about 20 mins, saw someone abusing some boss’s AI by kiting him infinitely while 50 people pounded on it, ported out and never came back.
im doing select dungeons to acquire my favorite looking gear, and loving that aspect of the game.
i really hope that rewards are equally re-distributed across the world so that people will disperse away from Orr.
all depends on nov 15 patch. if balancing is in the right direction, then maybe we’ll grow the spvp scene
