i dont see this build being viable for spvp. do you have any experience there? runes/amulets?
im not saying everything is fine and dandy, but that hater just wants to see necros fail. that’s just not the case.

rocking spvp now, finishing first almost every game. tpvp QP ranks speak for themselves. plenty of good necros up there. sorry to disappoint u hater.

just rolled a necro. my favourite caster by far. ele – i just wasnt digging attunement swapping (too frantic); mesmer – was fun but a little too simple. necro – there’s just so much you can do. utility, bunker, conditions, burst. many viable builds. having a blast.
we’ll see where the ranger is at on the 14th. hopefully a lot of the buffs JP promised will make it in this time.
i think we’ll be in an excellent shape by Feb next year. this interview has certainly reinvigorated me, GW2-wise.

what happened to the other huge thread on clipping issues? it had 20+ pages i think. also, any updates on when we’ll start seeing some clipping fixes?
i would say the main issue right now is that weapons simply cannot be discerned while holstered, across most armor sets.

LB warriors always had a place on good teams.
Obviously you will see more thieves in hotjoin matches, they are the “assassin” class and everyone likes getting kills and racking up points, not that this shows thieves are OP, just because something is effective at killing in a cluster kitten of mostly 8v8, does not mean that it is imbalanced.
you are seeing this many thieves in spvp because it’s easy to 1-shot noobs. this alone is the biggest problem thats turning off all the newcomers. i would like to see a 30% damage reduction to BS in the dec 14 patch.
This will not solve any problems, it will only totally destroy the viability of high level thieves running Backstab builds in tPvP, which is not what Anet wants, they want to balance the game for newbies and veterans alike, which is hard when there are a VAST amount things you need to know how to counter in this game.
high level thieves dont rely on BS. directly nerfing BS damage would exactly solve most of this game’s problems, which is new player retention. no one ever had problems with thieves in tpvp.

Sword/Dagger provides enough evasion to avoid more burst more often that SoS,
you actually need both. even then your bunker will still be subpar compared to engie/ele/guard specs. a very interesting combo might be sword/dagger/GS/BM/marks or BM/wilderness. but then you’d do zero ranged damage.

I run a Sword/Dagger trap based build and it can bunker fairly well, the one problem I run into is that some of my evades can potentially take me off a point, but at the same time most other players aren’t able to sit on the point when its constantly getting fresh traps. I like pairing it with Axe/Horn for the extra mobility and Axe #2 provides me with some nice additional damage when opening fights.
I will say most of the times I struggle with the character it seems far more to do with me screwing up my timing on something than the build not cutting it, so overall I’m really enjoying this build. I’m not sure I’ll ever achieve some of the performance I’ve witnessed from other bunker classes, but I’ll keep trying :-)
you cant bunker with traps in your utilities. bunker build requires signets, healing spring, 30 in BM for regen. and then you can go 30 in wilderness for empathic bond to give up SoS for more cleansing, or 30 in marks for SoS.
other than SoS, you have no other way of taking burst as a ranger and you cant disappear to reset the fight. so youre right, you’ll never achieve the same performance as, say, engie, ele or guard.
From the sounds of it there are only a few people here that are actually succesfully running a bunker ranger build and they are all running it a little bit differently. I’ve been pretty succesful using a gs/lb bunker in tpvp and can survive 2v1s for some time and can sometimes even down one of them in a 2v1 or 3v1.
“successful” is a relative term. anything can be successful in spvp. in tpvp, there are no “successful” ranger specs. at least, not any that dont bring down your team.
dont hold your breaths guys. “theyre thankful for the feedback, theyre aware of the issues, and theyre working on it. more info when it’s ready!” it’s the same broken record since the game came out. id like to hear an announcement like “we’re hiring 15 more staff to help us roll out pvp updates faster.” anything else will be kinda meh.
other than SoR and SoS actives, signets are completely useless and need a total rework. in fact, in PVE, both SoR and SoS are unnecessary. in boss fights where youre getting tons of conditions, your pet is either dead or the boss can reapply conditions instantly. and dont try to justify using SoW over a trap or some better skill for example.
it would make sense for pets to have sharp senses allowing them to attack those pesky thieves and mesmers while invisible. this wouldnt be OP, because it’s just area denial and on a CD. this in itself would make this shout viable in pvp

they lack focus, theyre all over the place. they should have left the world as is, and just improved rewards and DE scaling to keep the masses busy. this would have allowed them to focus on their babies, spvp and WvW. both have been horribly neglected, and spvp is as good as dead.
instead, they chose to introduce the gear treadmill, and put it in one dungeon, effectively killing world PVE!
bunker ranger is the strongest ranger spec, but prepare to be disappointed when comparing yourself to what other profs can do =P
i have dozens of tickets saved up, and i still dont do paids. it really makes no difference. need better balancing, more bug fixes, proper ranking system, more interesting meta, and different game modes.
biggest problem, out of all, is that last patch did not neuter the current meta well enough. meta still sucks.
i have over 300 hours on my ranger alone, who’s been doing tourneys since the game launched. i also have a number of youtube vids out showing off various builds. i know the prof inside out. i also invented the evasion tank playstyle (or at least, was the first to do a tutorial on it), in addition to using various BM regen builds.
but if you look at the current QP ranks, you wont see any rangers up there. there’s a reason for that. every prof has a spec with more survivability, more utility, more tank, better condition application, or more burst than anything the ranger can offer. the ranger falls behind in every area.
thieves never were a problem in tpvp, but they ruin WvW and spvp, turning off many casuals. i dont care much for the GW comparison because i never touched that game. all i know is that balance was a joke.
GW2 has made me sick to my stomach. with the recent introduction of gear treadmill, WvW neglect, and disappointing mismanagement of spvp, i havent logged in for 3 weeks.
partly, it’s my fault. ive been waiting for the game for 4 years, so i invested about 600 hours in it since its release. so it could have been burnout in general. it’s week 3 now and i have even less desire to log in than before. sad to say, but im likely done with the game.
most of all though, like others, i feel like ive been lied to. i was under the impression that ANet would pay most attention to keeping the entire world alive, meaning they would make constant tweaks to all zones, adjust and add rewards, etc. instead, they chose to pander to the “waaah-there’s-no-endgame” babies by adding dungeon grind and a gear treadmill. all the while spvp has gone from bad to worse.
so in summary, i thought id be playing GW2 forever for its dynamic world (not dungeons), WvW (which has been neglected since release), and pvp (which has been horribly mismanaged). instead, i may be finished with the game just 3 months into its release. im back in dota2 for its superior and balanced pvp, and playing PS2 as it’s better than WvW in every possible way. havent looked back yet.

competitive and dedicated teams have already tried this aspect of GW2, only to whither away due to boredom, horrible management of spvp, and lack of balance in general.
exactly. playing a thief is GW2’s version of godmode. with a little bit of skill, you have the best mobility, best evasion, and most burst out of all the specs in the game. not to mention stealth stomping, stealth rezzing, and quickness abuse.
and we all laughed at how horribly Blizzard managed rogues. lol, this is way, way worse. bunch of amateurs.
playing a thief in this game is essentially cheating. not only can you drop people in seconds, but you can disappear as needed, only to repeat the same combo again and again. all the while killing a “skilled” thief requires perfect timing, all cooldowns, and even more skill. it’s disgusting how long theyve let this drag out, and no hope for a proper fix in sight.
So when is the next patch?
It’s been over a month since JonPeters posted here and he hasn’t come back since…Honestly don’t blame him for not wanting to post anything with the juvenile tantrums thrown and the huge amount of personal attacks levied against him.
Honestly… what else would you expect?
He should have thought twice before he lied to us…saying that they had ranger improvements on the previous patch but had to pull them in order to test them further and then saying it would be in the next patch, come next patch and the improvements he said where already done where no where to be seen giving us an answer that they where limited in time. So they have the time to patch and buff and test stuff for all other classes, but they don’t have time to just test what they had already done for us?
Don’t be a fanboy, you know he lied to us which is why we got pissed at him. Worse part is he comes on here saying that they acknowledge that ranger’s need the most love because we’re the worse off profession then come patch and we get the least amount of fixes and no buff’s while professions that are already overpowered, like warrior, get buffed up even more. That’s just adding salt to the injury!
To add onto the end of that, It got personal when the class that got the buff that we where hoping for, a long bow or even a short bow buff was the one class that is
1. Over powered
2. His favoriteSorry, but really? really. inb4infr
also, no apology, no post to outline upcoming changes, nothing. just silence. i havent logged on for 3 weeks. im tired of killing or getting killed by thieves on my guardian main (that’s what spvp has become for me). likely, im done with the game seeing how poorly pvp is being managed. not holding my breath for the next balance patch either.

we likely have to wait until Winter’s Day patch in January, which will make it 2 months since ive last logged in.
^ i disagree. they had a good thing going. main reasons why spvp has gone downhill so hard is due to horrible imbalances, gimmicky high-level specs (min-maxing), and lack of ELO-type matching not being addressed. the former two needed to be fixed months ago. players’ morale is so low now that they need to do way more at this point to bring everyone back, whereas it could have been fixed easier earlier.
they should start by balancing out the thief and ranger. one is broken OP, other has been next to useless in pvp since release. bringing 2 out of 8 profs in line would attract a lot of people back.
do we seriously have to wait until Winter’s Day for the next round of balancing? the thief and ranger have been broken since release, and that will make it 4 months before one prof is buffed into usefulness and other is nerfed to where all the others are.
it’s been 3 weeks since i last logged in, and i have no reason to do so now after the recent FoTM patch disaster (gear treadmill, thief burst unaddressed, ranger virtually untouched).
God, no wonder a lot of you think rangers broken, a weapon “isn’t good” according to you unless it does tons of damage, I personally did a back flip of joy because my main weapon just skyrocketed in awesome!!

Wear more toughness gear? I don’t have much issues with thieves, then again they can’t hit me as hard as they hit the people that build for MOAR DAMAGZ!!

Funny, he was right. Good necros are running around owning face with good death shroud execution.
Mace guard, svanir runes, bunker guards in general, evasive arcana and bunker eles, daze thieves and invis abuse. Portals to a lesser extent, but portals need more nerfs.
Point is, things are moving in the right direction, hence the thank you.

Even though I was a little bummed about the ranger changes, I wanna thank the PvP team for breathing some life into a boring meta. Thank you for eliminating a lot of cheesy builds. We’re back on track. On top of that, new map is sick, Capricorn is kinda fun, and 5v5 queues are a very welcome addition. Hope to see the new map in tourneys.

In my opinion you’re wrong. They revitalized PvP and gave new life to tpvp meta. All the serious pvpers know so. They did kill some extremely cheesy builds.
Ranger isn’t even underpowered with the nerfs everyone just got. Ranger never had issues in pve. So what now? Enjoy the GS. It’s viable. Once spirits are properly buffed, rangers will be in a decent shape.
A bm/condition build is far from useless in dungeons. Just in some boss fights where pets can get 2shotted by aoe and no amount of micro can help u. They said they were addressing this. I was talking strictly pvp
I will post the build when I get back from work. I played it before the patch with SB/sword/dagger, but GS has so much more utility. It’s worth taking JUST for the extra stun and #4. Add cripple, decent bleed and gap closer, and you have great utility weapon.
I run with SoR, SoW, and SoS. SoW can be replaced with protect me. I have about 1800 toughness. Last night I took on 3 thieves (none basilisk tho) downing 2. Pet does most of the damage.
The regen and extra stats from bm really gives a lot more viability to your pet. Anet has to tread carefully when buffing pet mobility because the DPS is substantial. If pets start attacking while moving, DPS will need a nerf.
I absolutely love it. It’s a breath of fresh air. Hope it makes it into tpvp rotation. Capricornis a lot of fun now too. Don’t mind going in the water any longer
i use panther and fern hound. cat will give you overall more consistent dps than the bird, and dog is great for the cc. some people like going double bird for max burst though.
Guardians w/o mace bug + svanir runes can be taken down 100 x faster than it was before so now guardians will be harder to kill than other proffesions, but calling them bunkers… nah bros. (They have got the lowest HP base in game)
Elementalist bunker staff, finally nerfed. Now those randomly using skills ele’s will have to l2p actually. Treb cant be takend down with meteor shower on tanky builds that’s good.
Thiefs: -50% dancing daggers, guys open your eyes.
That skill could hit 3 times and hit 2/3 of backstab dmg, lets count: it used to hit twice backstab dmg. If you play w/o using any defensive strategy, or escape mechanism, dont be suprised that theif can take you out. You just play bad.The bad thing is QP ranking, because u never lose your QP, so the player who plays more, can earn more.
My team is casual, we still got 15 QP, because we play good, but we can’t play every day for 4h+ so we will never catch up even if we beat the top teams.Air rune -25% sure sir: it will hit now much less in whole game. Every 10 seconds you lose 25% of burst you used to have. Whole game is 15 min, do the math.
Arena.net cant buff you guys they strive for perfect balance. I’m former closed beta player of league of legends, there was “jax” then “mr. yi” OP, but they did the nerfs, not instantly, but after long time this game came up to something. So will GW 2 do, because I like this game much more than i used to like League of Legends.

sorry guys ima let you finish, but GS/SB is the best weapon combo of all times. i roll with BM, marks, signets and about 1800 toughness. pet (when it hits) hits like a truck and sustain is awesome.
GS gives you amazing defense with 1 and 4, in addition to 5 chained with SB’s 5 for long stuns. GS 4 also links up with SB’s 4. these two weapons synergize.
yes, like yourselves, i felt like i got punched in the stomach today with this patch. but i do wanna keep playing my ranger, and this is the one positive i found. try it out. it’s a great alternative to yawn axe/torch/traps.
