just testing it in the mists…does not seem to scale with healing power. at 300 healing power, 133 per tick. at 944 healing power, 133 per tick.
is this working as intended?
theres a reason why i have 600+ hours logged. by next spring, this game is gonna be ridiculously good with the spvp and wvw updates. hopefully open world update too.
the aoe immob, when landed at the perfect moment, can win the fight for your team. timing makes all the difference. also annihilates thieves and eles muddy terrain is better. but having both is priceless.
Since the game went live we all knew about this build, it has 9xx or more healing and 22xx Toughness with 16k HP, its a bunker that pretty much negates conditions and has average damage from the ranger and high damage from the pet.
the build i posted has marginally less toughness (2100) and healing (850), and but boasts 3k more HP and does huge condition damage.
rolling without SoH is just silly, especially if youre relying on kiting. the speed increase is too good, and actually makes the pet viable. my 2c, but good build otherwise.
my suggestions:
lightning reflexes > protect me for survivability
muddy terrain instead of sharpening stone.
id use SoH instead of QZ, but having 6s of quickness is cool for power rangers
Tonight I got pulled by an engineer who was on the ground, who proceeded to blow me up… when i landed I was pushed back by a mesmer into the gate point where a necro feared me… All in about 5-7 seconds.
all countered by 1s of stability. get stability kids!
this is my build. tanks like a champ, stacks bleeds like no other prof. tons of damage. tons of endurance regen for near-perma dodging and protection. tons of regen. no downsides really. way better than any trap build. not trying to brag, but i melt d/d eles and muddy terrain basically nullifies mediocre thieves; good ones will still be a challenge, but always doable. enjoy =)
you can put 30 into BM if you want even more regen, but i just love the damage. if you melt them fast enough, you wont have to bunker as much
another boss build is BM power ranger with signets. and ive been hearing whispers of a good condition/spirit build. now that pets are kinda of working, there are a dozen interesting builds.
signet of hunt is a must imo, because it just give you so much survivability, and makes pet almost perfect. my cat soloed two scrubs today because they couldnt shake her with 25% speed boost.

ranger, hands down. arguably one of the top pvp classes right now. all it took was some pet and mobility buffs. melts everything in pve with traps and axes, mind u all profs can do that. in spvp, crushes d/d ele and thief facerollers. condition ranger – best bleed stacker in the game.
we can only hope that the might stacking is a huge bug or something. otherwise, theyre just nuts.
Chill bro. Ranger still needs a lot of work. Was the patch good? Definitely.
they did nothing to address shouts this patch.
thief faceroll unaddressed, mesmers OP now (might stacking put em over the top), warriors UP. other than that, we’re good
I guess we gotta start killing the clones now or die
Yeah this buff was simply atrocious. Can anyone confirm if this is broken? kittenmesmers were borderline op and I was hoping for some nerfs actually
Thanks for the suggestion. Trap may not be needed as I already have 2 cripples and a ton of bleeds. Badly needed an immobilize! Will consider swapping Protect me for LR. SOH is just too good.

Yes and no. Youre giving up a lot of hp and boon buffs just so u can throw one trap. Thought about it, prefer the survivability
ranger has excellent condition removal. empathic bond removes all conditions every 10 seconds, then u have healing spring. and signet of renewal if needed for hard condition removal, but it’s excessive.
im genuinely not disappointed. thanks for a great patch.
are people crying cuz thieves didnt get nerfed, or because thieves didnt get buffed? =S
really? ive been melting d/d eles all night. im heavy condition build tho.
Balanced setups will have a hard time against cheese starts. Many teams are already looking into double mesmer portal play.
cool thanks for the insider info bro. might as well make it 3 mesmers for 60 stacks of might.
sword can be used to leap between opponents if youre skilled with it. it has 2 evades, and a leap finisher. just take it off autoattack and practice.
check out my condition assassin thread on front page. it’s not just a condition build it’s also BM and tanky.
arent two other grenades now doing damage in addition to applying conditions? + sigil buff makes it worth it. also grenade spam was lame and this may encourage people to try different things.
i dont know, i find SB amazing now. i’ll take this SB over the pre-QZ nerf SB any day. cant hate on reliable dps.
Healing Spring any day for reliable condition removal. with the amount of +healing u get from this build, regen ticks are substantial. with HS and Empathic Bond u dont really need to worry about conditions, unless youre getting focused by 3 necros or something.
SB + GS work great with the new marksmanship tree (reliable opening strikes, longer daze/stun)
im using SB/Axe/dagger for a bleed build, works fantastic
GS/sword/dagger still best for bunker
honestly i feel most if not all ranger weapons are now viable. havent tested LB yet.
loving this patch. nerf to weapon switching on its own will change the meta. oh and hey, rangers are back.
you know i might complain about this if my new and improved condition ranger didnt absolutely melt every d/d he came across tonight. maintaining 100% prot doesnt seem to do much for you except, well, give you protection all the time. it’s a predictable pattern, one that can be easily countered.
if this change kills tpvp as we know it (it wont), then all the better.
So you are saying that one team managed to do a good cheese start and therefore should automatically win because of that?
[/quote]
no actually. cheese strats just dont work on balanced builds. this change in itself restored a lot of my faith in ANet. really seems like they know what theyre doing.
You just have no idea of how games are going to be played now. The game will be a HUGE snowball where one team will dominate the other just cause they counter picked.
uh, this is how competitive pvp has always worked, in every other game. the change encourages more balanced builds. in LoL and SC2, once you commit to a strategy, it is near impossible to do a 180 halfway in, which is why people use versatile builds.
i agree with the decision. it brings in the unpredictability factor, something that tpvp has not had. once you commit to a build, you have to make it work, period. constant switching was just silly. so if one team decides to do something out of the ordinary, and they pull it off well, why should the other team have the capability to directly counter that almost instantly? this change will encourage planning and organizing before a match. and as poster above me said, it encourages balanced builds that can adapt to different situations.
if this change kills tpvp as we know it (it wont), then all the better.
+1, my ranger is a beast. loving this patch.
this patch was quite good actually. playing my ranger again fo sho. you’ll be seeing a crapton more rangers is t/spvp and this in itself will bring some much needed variety. my new condition ranger can chew through bunkers like theyre nothing. not like necros couldnt before either. we may see the meta shift toward more condition removal now.
i love underwater combat and always have. across ranger, necro and guard. i really hope they put it into tpvp. dont listen ANet!
lol i gots to try this
Edit: Can’t tell if working. Thought I moved faster, then realized I wasn’t wtf.
It indeed isn’t working.
good. GOOD.
after this patch, yes, rangers are in a very good shape.
JP made huge progress fixing pet melee for this patch. with increase to pet speed via Sic Em, trait, or SoH, my cats are landing almost every swipe, and they cant be juked as easily.
once aoe damage is nerfed across the board (possible upcoming change), pets will be in a decent shape. however, pets still need improvements to pathfinding…it’s still terribad. they cant seem to turn in an arc, just on sharp angles.

SoH is a must for skirmishing/kiting builds (all of them except bunker?). but ye +1, my ranger is loving this patch.
after a few hours of testing, i can say that SoH, improved pet melee and increased SB projectile speed have fixed most of the ranger’s woes. these changes alone were huge. people need to understand that with increased projectile speed, the SB can now reliably stack bleeds because it misses less. less missing = more bleeds and more instant damage = more dps.
sic em need more… maybe fury, maybe longer length. not sure. Guard would be amazing if pet could sniff out stealthed players (been suggested before). S&R is looks good, but does it justify using up a utility slot? not so sure.
in my opinion, this was the missing piece of the ranger (or one of them). i actually feel like a ranger now. i can kite, pop in and out of battle, my pet can hit stuff. ranger buffs were huge this patch, hope u guys are startin to see it!
now get on those spirits JP! <3

yea. lots and lots of tank with this build too.
it’s better now as SB and cats can reliably apply bleeds. SoH is new. dagger instead of torch is new. improved pet condition damage is also new i believe. anyway, nothing too mindblowing, it just works much better now.
anyway, nature’s bounty is quite good with Healing Spring. best tier 1 in Nature’s Protection, unless youre going for power or spirit builds.
(edited by nerva.7940)
im actually more into the reliable bleed stacking with cats atm (see my condition assassin thread). think of it as “condition burst”. way better. i use lynx/jag.
hah. it feels like getting punched in the stomach, right? i felt that last patch with rangers. necro is my alt. at least we got gluttony. i was hoping for some huge minion, power and lifesteal buffs to make weapons and builds other than scepter/dagger/staff and conditions more viable.
right now, stacking bleeds is…incredibly reliable. in fact, it’s impressive with improved SB speed and cats landing hits reliably. here is the build, it’s far from perfect but play around with it.
people just melt. on an immobilized target you get stack 20-25 bleeds in like 3 seconds. thing is, you can do it on a short CD. this is indeed a “condition assassin.”
nature protection is there for survivability but can be changed. lynx on his own can give you 10-12 bleed stacks in 2 seconds, which does about 30% less dmg than your conditions, but it’s still huge.
poor d/d eles. all i can say =(
update: switched torch to dagger. SoH instead of Sic Em for constantly high mobility for u and pet. runes can be of Lich, Undead, or Thief. i felt like i needed more vitality so i went with Lich.
also, if you flank someone, and open up on them with all these bleeds, they will melt in seconds unless they have some serious condition removal. welcome to the new thief.
lastly, SoH gives you incredible survivability. you can actually kite like a champ now and your pet will land almost every hit. TRY IT.

u can use muddy terrain for the immobilize. or stuns from GS + SB. but pvp is never this simple.
