looks good, but i wouldnt roll with this in wvw. it’s hard to apply conditions in zergs. and u just dont have the range. even though u have a lot of survivability, you’ll get overrun quickly.
im glad ure enjoying yourself with that build OP, and it may be ok for WvW. but for spvp it’s quite terrible as you have no survivability other than SoS. survivability builds tend to revolve around the BM and wilderness lines, along with condition damage. but you could try power regen builds. you’ll hit like a wet noodle without precision though.
All I was able to get out of that was "rangers have burst,
they have a lot of burst. with a stealthed jag, berserker gear, LB and QZ you can do 15-20k damage in a few seconds. yes it’s harder to pull off, no it’s not 15k damage in 1 second, but it’s also a sniper build and u can do it from any distance. i’ll let u figure out the build.
what? u mean that 2 viable builds in tpvp arent enough? some profs dont even get that. spirits need a rework still, and pet movement can always use more improvements.
i use LB in wvw for its synergy with pet (im 30 in BM as well) and huge long range burst. with you pet and piercing arrows u can stack 20 vuln on multiple targets which is huge for my cat’s dps and my group. i use SB in spvp and am a huge fan of it, but LB outperforms it in every wvw situation.
i find piercing arrows + LB + QZ disgusting. if youre good at lining up your shots, u knockback or burst down multiple targets.
SB remains the superior condition/close quarters weapon. in wvw, u dont have the luxury to stack conditions and most engagements occur in open areas.

good thieves are virtually unstoppable in wvw. if theyre downed it’s because they made a mistake.
doesnt matter. AOE is getting nerfed soon, so these guys might as well enjoy it while they still can.
Im telling u. SoW + carnivorous appetite + natural healing = pet doesnt die. I hate how people start whining without even trying the different options. I keep 25 stacks of master’s bond on my jag at all times for even more ownage in pve
has no real burst damage
this made me lol so hard. it’s amusing how noobs think. while ranger’s burst isnt as faceroll as a BS thief or 100b warrior or shatter mesmer, it’s still there. you have access to 6 seconds of quickness. on demand. think about that. with investment in power, crit and BM, you can burst anything down from 50-60% health, easily. jaguar alone can unleash 6-8k burst on a crippled/dazed target. add LB #2 or SB #1 to that mix and it’s lights out.
you can achieve similar results with cat and bleed stacking. the ranger is the best bleed stacker in the game, hands down.
Blinding Powder: 3 second stealth 40 second CD
Cloak and Dagger: 3 second stealth, 6 initiative cost, requires melee range
Hide in Shadows: 3 second stealth, 30 second CD
Shadow Refuge: 10 second stealth, 60 second CD, requires the thief to sit inside it for the full 5 second durationWhich is these is OP again?
shadow refuge and CnD. thanks.
skirmishing is essential to maximize pet. pet’s prowess and carnivorous appetite, 30 in BM. SoW and Natural Healing. between this and your heals, pet will be alive forever. gear-wise, id go for power and maybe a little more precision.
Good d/d eles make a mockery of all pvp in the game especially wvw and most specs are kind of inferior. Once aoe gets toned down d/d will fall in line. Rangers are pretty cool and have a variety of viable builds. For example, with traits in skirmishing and bm, pets are a serious addition to long range dps. Condition builds are perfect and power builds are good with bow buffs.
Spirits need a rework and pets need more work.
Made up my mind. Going 30 skirm 30 bm to lock people down with sb/gs. Gear will be pvt. Lots of crit, survivability and utility along with some of the best mobility.
Pet with guard/sic em and qz for long range sniping and sieging. Skirm trait line maxes out the pet essentially.

well mystic forge needs an entire revamp. if we dont get it in the spvp update, id be really surprised.
Hmm. I usually do not recommend full soldier’s equipment (pwr/tough/vit) because you sacrifice a ton of damage due to the lack of crits. Also rangers have a moderately high base hp (15000ish)
As for sigil/runes… What weapons are you using?
with maxed out skirmishing and maybe runes of thief and some precision in accessories, you can easily get 40% crit, have decent power, and a load of toughness.
ranger is excellent. tpvp has at least 2 viable builds. lots of power builds are viable now after bow buffs.
also, theyre really wrecking wvw, but thats another story.
need to basically copy dota2/lol exactly. teams are formed based on ELO-like rating, tournament begins. #1 team gets QP points, then proceed to live tournaments. ditch paids. ditch spvp (replace with custom arenas). once majority of players stop playing 8v8, many balance problems will recede into the background until theyre tackled properly.
im praying new system is something like this =) key is to not fragment population like it is currently (majority in spvp, some in frees, and next to none in paids).
decent build, i used to roll with SB/S/D/power (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s_EoFNCZ0Rg trolling around few weeks after launch pre-QZ nerf). but you can do way more damage (condition) and have a similar level of survivability with SB/axe/dagger/cats, stacking bleeds like a champ. bunker beastmaster builds synergize so much better with the wilderness trait line for the +cond damage and extra defense through toughness and empathic bond. also makes d/d eles cake. unlike other bunkers, rangers can do some serious damage with conditions and pet…wouldnt wanna waste that. comes down to preference i guess. i like my ranger to sting, rather than just dodge around all day.
regarding Forge, i can see the appeal, but GW2’s combat system is way better, not to mention the AAA quality and customization available for your character. you go on a rant about spvp giving only aesthetic rewards, but imo it’s a great system, something that Forge wont have to the same extent, if EVER.
i totally feel you though, but im quite optimistic GW2 will be a more serious pvp game once the update rolls around in early 2013. right now, im still figuring out new builds and having fun.
regarding moderation: fully agreed, not sure what theyre trying to achieve here. ive been suspended multiple times for writing docile, semi-constructive or very constructive posts.
cheers.

they need to get on their stuff man, this thief garbage is killing the community. regardless of tourney balance.
im running with spectral wall instead of well of suffering, i prefer it for the instant 10 stacks of vuln, not to mention the prot. any reason to pick the well instead?
There are some nice burst builds but they rely on pet.
My thoughts exactly. Less squishy than I originally thought. Depending on how fast I can build LF. Does take quite a bit of practice but it’s hella rewarding as it can put as much pressure as the condi wellmancer
Anyone try Axe instead of dagger?
getting trained by warriors and thieves is brutal on this build.
(edited by nerva.7940)
actually, it’s not very fun for casuals, which is why we’re seeing a decline. and a lot of fun for those who know the intricacies of the mechanics. im still loving tpvp and learning new builds every day.
they need to tone down gimmicky builds if they want casuals to participate. toning down burst and bunkers would open up the game to at least a dozen more viable builds.
that of course is just one piece of the puzzle. we need ELO, and a different game mode, in that order of priority. releasing the game focused on point capture and tournaments was a serious mistake, but i can see what they were going for.
power necro seems to be an assassin type burst spec. nobody would be kiting him. u come in from the side, immobilize and burst. or just annihilate an entire point with lich like any 30/30/10 necro would.
traps is pretty bleh. little survivability and a niche role in tpvp. try my bleed bunker build, it’s a lot of fun. i roam as well as hold points in tpvp with lots of success.
i thought it was, they kinda started out strong, but the cracks began to show too soon.
the mechanics are amazing, combat is fluid. but they have so much work left with respect to improving the meta and adding content.
i really really like the build, but it’s very reliant on a good team. much higher learning curve and seemingly much squishier than my bunker wellmancer. the damage is worth it though =)
i find spectral walk to be a powerful ability for this build.

is the LF generated by signet of death significant or noticeable in a fight?
Haha som1 finally made a post about this. I can confirm this. Once the pet heal starts u need at least 3 people to out dps it
Two builds. Glass cannon trap condition build and vigor regen condition bunker.
Not so sure about that. I played a gs/staff guard in tpvp as a roamer. Brought lots of utilities and burst to my teams.
Well this discussion shut me up. Excited to try this out. I only played a bunker condi necro so I kinda dismissed everything else.
How do u not get melted by conditions and what do u bringto your team Khalifa
When im having an awesome 1v1 with someone and some scrub instagibs me out of stealth, I just “leave the mists” when he is midstomp
thieves need to and will get addressed as well. i mean they dont have to, but then people will just stop playing spvp.
not viable. necros dont have enough stability to brawl in melee range, and siphoning is a bad, broken mechanic. i tested the crap out of dagger builds. staff spam, scepter/dagger, is all thats really viable on the necro.
OP, this is why there are less than 100 people online in spvp at times.
All this game needs are bug fixes and the tools to improve the pvp area as a whole like matchmaking, rankings, seperated solo/grp queues and so on.
Most of you guys still talk about balance in a 1v1 mindset, but it just doesn’t work that way.
okay, so it’s acceptable to have 6-7 viable builds that outperform everything else? we’re talking about improving build variety, which is what my suggestions revolve around. no where did i discuss 1v1 balance. unfortunately, as things stand in “competitive” pvp, players are very much focused on dueling and bunker specs. basically, there are only two roles: bunker and roamer. bunkers absorb damage, roamers duel and/or burst. this sucks.
thanks for your input.

Last night around 3am est there was less than 100 people in spvp. Coudnt even get on a map I felt like playing. Kinda sad.
Every thief spec is good at attrition which just shouldnt be.
I also agree with power but in gw2’s case, after u explore, u just go back to whatever is most effective if u wanna win.
Just because people don’t know when to pop protection does not mean something needs a nerf.
Well if the thief is nearly perma stealthed u cant know when to pop it. And if youre already engaged with cds down, getting instagibbed by a roamer is not fun.
We cant ask for everyone to have perma prot. Thats why im saying we should attack this from 2 sides: bunker and burst nerfs.
Good points on the thief. But bs damage is only balanced in a sea of bunkers, mesmers and d/d eles, all of which can mitigate or escape. The problem with people doing 10k+ burst on 2k toughness is that it discourages squishier specs like power/crit or utility, which is more than half the builds in the game.
Thief, d/d ele and shatter burst, and bunker meta are the sole reasons why we’re only seeing those builds and nothing else. Address the burst, then address the strongest bunker builds and we should start seeing more builds. Otherwise it’s just a vicious cycle.
To the poster above, I disagree about removing downed state. It can be a lot of fun, but invul/invis stomps and rezzes need to be taken out of the game. Great points on the ele though. Hopefully it clarifies a few things to those unfamiliar with the prof.
(edited by nerva.7940)
thief instagibbing needs to end soon. Too many scrubs thinking they are “highly skilled”
sure. But if there isn’t a NEED to run anything else, people won’t. Current “top” builds are too effective.
For me, MOBAS suck. I’m done with them. Other than Sc2 (HotS) and a few FPS games, GW2 is best.
