sure. but spirits have been useless since the game’s release (since the beta nerf), and i dont quite understand why they thought that buffing proc chance by 15% would solve anything =S
even IF the proc was 100% and the spirits were invulnerable, i dont think id have any in my utility slot due to the 10s internal CD. when youre getting focused, as we often do in pvp, how is RNG defense going to help you when help is badly needed? anyway, spirits are neither invulnerable nor non-RNG. im just not clear on the design intent here.
40% pet damage for 10 seconds really adds nothing because pet-reliant burst is not on-demand (therefore useless in spvp), and because traps and signets are infinitely more useful for damage, cc and survivability.
anyone putting anything other than Protect Me in their utilities? anyone?
spirits (with extra health trait) still get two-shot, and their entire tree (Nature Magic) is arguably useless.
on a more positive note, thank you for the projectile buff, SoH, and pet attack improvements.
can we look forward to future shout and spirit improvements? these two hunter themes will never, ever see any use in tpvp.
shouts are still useless, signets havent really been touched, and spirits still get 2-shot. but i’ll take the buffs to BM tree, improved pet attack and SB trajectory speed, and be “content”
yep, with 25% move speed from SoH, pet almost never misses. pet is rooted, but you’ll notice the 1 second “im gettin ready to attack” animation is more or less gone.
yes, that too. speed itself is faster though.
i am. definitely noticeable. watch the actual projectile, it traverses distance faster. also, pet pathfinding is still crap, but they can no longer be juked as easily when the target is right beside it. with signet of the hunt, pet almost never misses in melee.

just want the patch to hit already so i can read the balance changes and test new builds. couldnt care less about this Winterday stuff.
I personally don’t think there’s enough practical depth.
my hammer guardian would like to disagree with you.
- slam fire field – 3 stacks of might
- slam dark – aoe blind
- slam ethereal – aoe chaos armor (overpowered)
- slam poison – aoe weakness
- slam water – regen
my ranger would like to disagree with you.
- shoot ethereal – several confusion stacks
- shoot ice – chill
- shoot water – regen
- shoot smoke – constant blindness
i can keep going. anyway, you could not do any of the above and it would not have a huge effect on the fight, but if you choose to do the combos, you will win faster and easier. make sense?
if they dont find a way to reinvigorate the world, the game will just disappear of the map. i would have bought pandas if i wanted to grind freaking dungeons.
fully agreed….game needs PTR badly lol.
open world. dungeons occasionally for the team coordination and strategy. but getting funneled into one dungeon to grind gear? pretty much made me lose all trust in this company, and theyve yet to redeem themselves. as a result, ive been away from the game. having a blast playing XCOM and BL2 over the last 2 months or so.
no theyre not fine. theyre too easy and give no significant rewards. not to mention broken. people have been complaining about their low level of difficulty since release.
agree with almost everything. DE’s were a major failure, mostly because they were left to rot in the sorry state they were created in. in fact i havent touched PVE in over 2 months. mostly doing spvp and WvW, which are quite enjoyable. even though i play the most gimped profs (ranger and necro), i have quite a bit of skill so im having fun for the time being.
but i still cant get over how their lack of care about the open world and DE’s. theyve done everything imaginable to alienate their fanbase and the manifesto that they used to sell the game. they used DE’s to sell the game then just dropped it. DE reward and difficulty scaling, untouched. bugs, still rampant. aoe tagging, still a problem. Lost Shores, a failure (might as well delete the zone).
i left PVE in the dust. the spvp department seems passionate about their work and im looking forward to the balance patch. wont be touching Winter’s Day stuff…it’s silly fluff.
on a more positive note, even though the game hasnt really moved forward in any way so far, it’s young and the potential you speak of still isnt lost.
(edited by nerva.7940)
repair and update existing content.
DE’s dont scale properly in difficulty and reward (never did) AND theyre broken. WvW is stagnant, but we know changes are coming there.
fully agreed. tired of getting invisi-stability-stomped. quickness is tricky but at least you can still react. thief and ele stomping is absolutely ridiculous
thing is if you look at online reviews, many share my gripes about Razer products, especially the Naga. and compare that to the G9X (or Logitech products in general), which has 5/5 on newegg after 800 user reviews. if you have a Razer product that last for more than a year, then youre lucky.
it was a very bad move releasing point control mode instead of team DM. i think that decision in itself killed tpvp.
Razer is complete garbage. it’s cheap and breaks in less than a year. while my Death Adder felt great under the palm, it broke after 6 months of moderate use.
Does your ‘moderate use’ mean you throw it every time you get killed? I can’t think of any other way it could break in 6 months. I’ve had the same Death Adder even since it was first released and used it heavily for years, including traveling with it every couple weeks. Still works perfectly.
nope, the wheel actually started skipping when scrolling after a few months. cheap parts.
actually GW2 pop has been steadily growing. most servers are full.
Logitech G9x or go home tbh. best bang for the buck. you get weights, durability, huge dpi, 9 buttons for $100.

Razer is complete garbage. it’s cheap and breaks in less than a year. while my Death Adder felt great under the palm, it broke after 6 months of moderate use. Naga’s record isnt any better.
i still cant believe how hard Lost Shores flopped. i dont think anyone goes there any more. they should just delete the zone.
fully agreed. i dont think a single camp is happy, except maybe the people grinding dungeons. FOTM is indeed great.
convincing, dynamic, replayable open world – not delivered
pvp experience – not delivered but getting there (apparently)
dungeons – delivered
no gear grind – not delivered
WvW updates – not delivered
it was, but unfortunately, GW2 isnt much better. the PVE anyways.
i dont get the continuous GW1 references. i hated that game. WoW was better is every single way, which is what everyone played. GW2 feels like a brand new product. it has lots of flaws, but it feels very fresh. if they actually stuck to their freaking manifesto for the new content updates, the game would have simply exploded with players.
they have failed to deliver a convincing, replayable open world. end of story. i didnt buy this game to grind dungeons, so i certainly havent been participating in FOTM, which is where everyone is.
having looked forward to Tyria’s dynamic events and the open world, i was terribly disappointed by GW2’s PVE. i havent touched PVE in over a month, and i havent even killed Zaitan (my main is sitting outside of Arah) because i just dont care. ive been doing just spvp and WvW, which are great, but i have no reason to run PVE content. the open world has nothing for us.
Tyria has been rotting a few weeks after release. no one is out there, except for a few alts and noobs here and there. DE’s are broken, they dont scale, rewards suck. nothing was done at all about aoe tagging, nothing was done to make these events more challenging. the open world end game is a snoozefest (Orr zombies). FOTM and ascended gear pretty much crushed whatever was left of the open world. i still cant comprehend why this was released.
*so my question is: when will you tend to that which you used to sell the game to everyone, i.e. dynamic events and the open world? *
(aside) personally, i cant stand the holiday fluff. the events are goofy, silly, childish and if anything, they break whatever little immersion this game has (lol floating candy, candy monsters =S). and they remind me that dev time isnt being invested in what matters. but im glad people love the holiday content as it improves retention. the only thing im looking forward to in Winter’s Day is the stuff that should have been there on release: spvp balance and bug fixes. if you want feedback, here it is…i didnt do half of the Halloween content, I didnt do any of the Lost Coast content (except for exactly 2 FOTM runs to try it out), and i dont plan on participating in Winter’s Day because I have zero interest in fluff. i’ll be in the Mists.

This isn’t wow, thank god!
i actually felt way more attached to my hunter’s pets. pets are the worst part of the ranger unfortunately. some of them just look terribly goofy.
Even if it is 25 on necro I would never equip it on mine. Necros don’t benefit much from kiting whereas it makes a huge difference for rangers
Thanks jon. Even a small improvement would increase pet reliability and dps significantly cant wait to test it out. Thanks for continuing to improve it.
I’d love to see an overhaul. Pets in this game are just so uncool, not to mention near useless.
Already been running signets. Hoping for some more significant changes.
l doubt we’ll see any pet changes any time soon. Pets are the weakest aspect of the ranger and they’re a disaster tbh. Just poorly designed all around and it would require way too much work to actually make them useful. That being said, pets can do some decent damage if target is crippled or immobilized.
But if a dev wants to prove me wrong l’d love to hear it!
(edited by nerva.7940)
nah, d/d ele is faceroll. you have 50 boons up at all times, you come in, unload, get out, heal up, and repeat. it’s the dumbest spec, only second to d/d thief.
pet movement buffs are unlikely, so i dont think we should set our expectations too high. maybe spirits will get reworked into something usable. without good pet mechanics, ranger is just a kittened thief.
like many others, i was in love with this game for the first 500 hours, after which ANet just kinda lost me. the open world has been left to rot while they introduced gear grind concentrated in one dungeon.
i find the new events and content updates really lame and childish. Lost Shores was a mess and now the island is dead. so the content updates added nothing to my experience. all the while the selling point of the game (DE’s) remain bugged, and unadjusted for both rewards and difficulty scaling. not to mention deserted because everyone is in freaking Fractals grinding away. this was the biggest slap on the face for the loyal fanbase to cater to the gear grinders who left the game anyways.
the only thing im looking forward to is the balance update on the 14th so i can explore more builds, and WvW is always good.
lol, they dont even compare. necro is a bunker buster and can clear an entire point with wells and staff/scepter/dagger. rez signet has nothing to do with it. corrupt boon is where it’s at. i played a condition ranger and when i rolled necro i never looked back. trap rangers just have no survivability whatsoever.
i dont think dagger/power builds are viable in any way, compared to staff/scepter/x. we’ll have to wait for patch, but currently there’s no reason to go axe or dagger MH.
spirits need a rework, all signets need buffs, pets need improved pathfinding (i doubt it will happen). SoH buff is nice, couldnt care less about LB buff. hopefully way more stuff.
dps ranger was killed by QZ/SB nerf. LB/birds ranger tries to do the same, but it’s just not as good. ranger puts out pretty sad dps in pvp and has to give up too much survivability for it. we’ll see what 14th patch brings.
if each prof has 3 viable specs that do different things, then we’ll be in business.
it takes no skill to play a thief of any spec. you have to be in serious denial if you think otherwise. thieves cause way too much stress in pvp. can they be killed? yes. but im tired of fighting against thieves outside of tpvp. and im tired of them simply leaving the fight unpunished whenever they feel like it. wvw theyre all over the place, spvp theyre all over the place.
i hope we’ll see some serious nerfs in a few days. also hope to see dozens of quality trait fixes across all profession to promote build diversity. otherwise, we aint gettin far, even with the new features.
there are lots of good rangers out there (ive been pushing it to the max since game launched), but the prof is a joke. take all that skill from playing the ranger, try another prof and the difference is day and night. excited for the 14th patch though, it’s starting to sound really good.
i rerolled to necro for a less painful experience. then i tried bunker ranger for a day or two. went back to my necro for a less painful bunker experience. waiting for 14th.
what do u want me to say? needs more features, needs more balancing, and we need to wait for all of the above. whats the point of your post?
Apparently it is cuz I know how to deal with caltrops? Youre repeatedly ignoring the point im making – the thief can neutralize the point with little effort and no risk. If caltrop spam occurs on the point, you have to eventually get off it. And a good caltrops spammer cant be pinned down. What im saying is spamming caltrops ad infinitum with no risk should not be a viable strategy.
And ure perfectly right. D/d aoe spamming is the same low skillcap crap. Little risk, little effort for significant effect.
(edited by nerva.7940)
Youre forgetting about one new role: bunker buster. Filled by necro. Overall I agree though. Not all profs can fill roamer, bunker, bunker buster or burst roles at the competitive level. But even if they could there wouldnt be enough build variety in the current meta.
siphoning is garbage in current state, yes.
You’re contradicting yourself somewhat. You’re saying offense > defense (which is utterly kitten imo) and then you would point out the condition thief’s tankiness to reinforce your “argument”?
offense > defense because players can apply conditions and CC much more frequently than you can defend against. meaning, once you’ve popped all your CD’s youre dead because the conditions are still piling on. im not contradicting myself because a good caltrops thief will have both the defense (ability to disengage at will) and perpetual condition application, which is not balanced.
How about you try to find solutions to whatever class/build bothers you in pvp instead of opening one stupid “How is skill xyz of a thief not broken?” thread after another?
as i already stated in an attempt to protect my credibility, ive been tpvp’ing since beta, so i have hundreds of hours in tpvp alone and i know most profs inside out. you dont have to believe me. however, if there was a pragmatic solution, i wouldnt be making broken mechanic discussion threads. that’s why theyre “broken”.
(edited by nerva.7940)
with 30 in Soul Reaping, the LF bar fills up pretty quick. i havent noticed a need for a stun breaker. i just pop into DS when i see a burst coming. Foot in the Grave is absolutely essential for spvp, it gives you 3s of near on-demand stability for stomps, or for avoiding knockbacks. Spectral Walk is a stunbreaker but it’s just a survival ability, meaning that it’s not helping you kill or buff, which wastes a slot imo. you also have an aoe fear, as long as u use a staff. and doom in DS.
