Stunlock Needs to Go

GW2 is imo one of the few MMOs that gets stuns and CC just right. If you are being chain CC’d, then clearly you need to employ a more evasive build or fight at a different range. All the mobs have weaknesses you can exploit, but it takes a thoughtful build and reasoned approach. The Engineer spamming 1 clearly knew how to play, while the yolo ranger’s time was up as soon as he entered melee.

What Ventari is missing

in Revenant

What they need to do to fix the clunkyness of the tablet is very simple:

I will give another game character example, Oriana, from league of legends. She carry a metal ball and throw it in places, and then use skill that come from the metal ball, exactly like the Ventari tablet.
So why Ventari fell so cluncky and she not ( not arguing between two differente game genres)??
Its because when the tablet get out of range it just dissapear, but for orianna when she get out of the range of the metal ball it teleports to the top of her head and float there, she can still use skills without moving the ball so it will come from the top of her head where the ball is.
If the Ventari had the option to absorb the tablet and then every utility that he uses would come from where the revenant stands, but still having the option to send the tablet, it would be miles better, you could sent heals allies far away, but if you keep together with your allies you dont need to worry about the tablet position as he would be “inside” your character.
Having the tablet travel time + the delay from the heals make it really bad on pve with a really heavy moviment combat (which is one of the strong points of gw2 )

Dude, as soon as you said “other game” I immediately thought of my favourite support / mid character Orianna’s mechanics are indeed great!

Hold up a moment! Which do you enjoy playing? Because in the end, that’s what matters. Watch some videos of endgame play with both classes and figure out which mechanics you prefer. DPS only matters in Raids, and is heavily dependent on the current metagame. If you choose a class solely on the basis of it being able to deal fractionally more damage, but don’t actually enjoy how it plays, you are going to be dissapointed. The Rev puts out plenty of damage, so don’t be daunted by that. The question is, which play style do you enjoy the most?

As a Revenant main, I’d just like to thank you for the patch. From the perspective of someone who doesn’t use Ventari, there are indeed very few changes. However, and I think I speak on behalf of all Revenants when I say this – Thanks for not making things any worse. I, along with my brothers and sisters, eagerly await the next balance patch, wherein you actually take a look at our class. Cheers and in jest

Sudden death in WvW is exacerbated by players occasionally popping in long after they’ve seen you first. Even if you spin your camera around like a madman, you can be caught off guard by players popping right before they are in range to teleport to you thanks to latency to/on the server.

The more divergence you add to the game in terms of modes, the more difficult changes to the game become to manage, and the more confusing shifts between game modes become to players. Some skills are already scaled differently in PvP vs PvE, separate stats may “fix” game balance issues, but will introduce a whole new can of worms.

I wish Aurene didn’t exist. That mission where you have to train her up is very reminiscent of ANet’s earlier attempts at “interesting” new takes on quests – where you get transformed into a dog/toad/flowerpuff with useless skills. For once, I’d like an escort/companion quest where my ward isn’t a useless sack of kitten. Or a blue baby dragon. I suppose she is more interesting than Taimi at least.

I had a quick look at the first vid and took notes on your use of the hammer, and especially on how you chain dodges, shiro two and hammer three. I do have a question though and perhaps I’m missing something: you have 16.8k hp in your glass build, my Rev with full zerker and (apparently) no buffs has just over 17k. I’ve actually not jumped into wvw just now to check it there, but is the difference maybe something ANet do to scale stats in pvp? It’s just a silly thing that was bugging me with an obvious answer I think. Anyway, nice vids and a refreshing musical choice.

Thank-you, this has been my experience so far as well. At a first glance Rev seems to have passable mobility, but it’s locked behind legend and weapon swap. Swapping legends is definitely part of the playstyle, and I reckon it separates a good Revenant from a great one, but other classes seem to not be quite so held back by their own mechanics. My other main is a warrior, and I’ve never felt at odds with its class mechanics. When I die on the warrior, it’s usually a spectacular death. On my Rev, it’s usually because I spent too much time out of attack range trying to even the playing field, while waiting for a combination of available skills/legend swap and an opening for counter attack.

I love the Rev though, so I am OK running a support build for my team mates and keeping them up. In terms of stat combinations, would anyone care to recommend something? Maybe zerker mixed with a few defensive stats to bolster my HP by a few thousabd points?

Bit of a thread necro, but I’m interested to hear how/if Rev has changed in WvW.

I’m thinking of playing it a bit more seriously and am weighing my build options. I usually play power/shiro/glint but that’s not going to cut it, since I’m not good enough to run a glass cannon like that. I’ve had luck supporting groups instead, but input from experienced players would be great. Ideally I’d like to keep my sword and Glint, since I adore both, but other than that I’m not too sure. Unfortunately my armour is and will likely have to stay exotic, but my trinkets and weapons are ascended, so I feel like I have to potential to do well with my Rev, with a bit of help from you fine folk

Is Revenant really that bad?

nosleepdemon.1368

I mained a warrior and thief when HoT launched, I took the warrior through the HoT zones and got the story / zone events done, then built a Rev and levelled her up with my huge collection of tomes.

Right off the bat, it didn’t feel great. Until I got Glint unlocked, I felt extremely… Unable, to adapt to things happening in a fight. My warrior could quickly go on the defensive when needed, and felt powerful (or at least, worthwhile) even when backed away a little to recharge hp or wait on defensive cooldowns. Not so with the Rev, who I found to be basically buggered when caught in a stance that had run out of defensive options.

Now that I have a finished build, with experience playing the Rev and, crucially, Glint, the class is a lot of fun to play. So much so, that it is now my main. I am not sure however, if I would recommend it. The learning curve is certainly there, but I feel that the difficulty is a wee bit tilted toward the class not being quite there in terms of workable builds, than L2P.

If you don’t mind power/zerk/glint/shiro for life though, giv’er!

While it appears to be a shame that the farm isn’t what people had hoped, maybe some of you guys are taking this a little too hard. A mental calculation I perform when playing games is, is what I’m doing fun? If so, great! Keep doing it. However, if it is not fun, why am I doing it? So OK, I need leather, and this is a leather farm but, since leather can also be purchased with gold, maybe I can farm gold more efficiently (and a key point – in a more enjoyable way) doing something else.

Ever since I got Kaiser Dagger from Super Adventure Box I have wanted to use it on one of my chara ters. I know Warrior is getting offhand dagger in their next Elite, and I could also play my Thief or chimp out and roll an Ele, but those are not Revenents. Please can the Rev get Dagger offhand (or even the second spec in game to use dual daggers – Ele does not count), it could replace Sword and have cool effects like ranged life steal dagger toss, or apply weakness. Thanks!

There was a glorious time during the beta, and even shortly after release, where the mobs were actually fun to fight. After that, the difficulty got dropped and places like Oor became the cakewalk that you waltzed through OP, without a care in the world. The sudden hike in difficulty in Heart of Throns is the game returning to its roots (hahah), and you are going to need to play more defensively until you have your elite stance sorted out. The Warrior is particularly good at surviving when it honestly does not deserve to, so take a look at some tougher, more defensive builds. Once you learn the mechanics of the new mobs, you can go right back to the meta glass cannon go zerk or go home spec. Try the zones a bit more; once you get better at not being murdered, navigating them and actually taking in their brilliant design becomes quite fun.

The thing about making a precursor for less gold, but taking more time, is that gold is not the primary currency of guild wars – time is. How much time you spend in game can be directly equated to gold earned and because of this, a low gold cost / high time cost option would have worked out to be no better. Adding to this, since legendary weapons and precursors function as a means to keep the economy stable, any low gold cost precursor would need to take significantly longer to acquire to allow for the usual tp flushing or outright purchasing to remain viable. Bit of a catch 22, really.

A quick question for anyone in the know that I’m having difficulty finding an answer to:

I’m trying to complete the fractal initiate achievement, this requires completing a fractal at each of the first 25 scales. The trouble is, I have noticed that sometimes I don’t get credit for a particular scale, so I suspect I don’t understand how this scale system actually works.

Sometimes I am convinced it is down to my personal level, yet other times this does not appear to be the case. To add to my confusion, I completed a fractal at personal level 20, real level 26, and got credit for some random scale despite already having achieved the scale 20 requirement previously, and there being no scale 26 requirement at all… Help?

Most Difficult Base Class to Play?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: nosleepdemon.1368

nosleepdemon.1368

Warrior is the hardest play: you have so many options that you really need to know the class to play it well. I would say Mesmer and Thief are the easiest, since in both cases you can just smash buttons to deal tons of damage. The Revenant is also ridiculously easy in this regard, although it does require a good sense of rhythm to optimally switch between legends and weapons to not suddenly end up with no skills available.

You can run berserker builds fine, the caveat is that you need to be snappy on active defence, and know how many ways you have to avoid damage before the gig is up. Pocket raptors are especially annoying in this regard as their behaviour is… Flakey? I’d say more or less broken, but we can go with flakey: Often they will ignore you, sometimes they will “follow” you and deal damage despite being nowhere close to you physically. It’s best to aoe them fast to deal with their constant damage before it gets out of hand. I would recommend a ranged weapon and slotting active defense skills that will throw you away from whatever is attacking you. Some mobs have skills that can immediately down you, so you may find that fighting veterans and elites is best accomplished by stun lock, or using dash type skills to put distance between them. Of course, that way you tend to run into raptors…

The developers probably balance around pvp because it takes the most skill to play. In PvE you can get away with murder, so to speak, but in PvP the true potential of a class will shine. Therefore, PvP is a good test to see if a class is a little over adjusted in terms of relative strength with other classes. The Rev was a wee bit strong at moderate to high levels of play, so it got toned down. It will still be perfectly viable for whatever it is a PvE player wants to use it for, so don’t worry!

I had the pleasure of doing two Dragon’s Stand maps back to back this evening, after having a wander with my Rev and seeing that it really is quite a beautiful map and the one I have explored the least. The first play through was with an organized guild running the show, so it was by the numbers. The second was random players including a few from the first map that were inexplicably telefragged by Mordy once the timer ran out. This run was really chaotic, and nearly ended in catastrophe with Mordy on a sliver of health suddenly going on an island munching spree. I really enjoyed the mechanics on the map, and the 20 minute ‘aftermath’ of equal parts jubilation and mad scramble for noxious pods was a neat way to end it. I suppose what I’m saying is, that despite having only set foot in the map a total of four times, it is really quite epic. That just leaves Auric Basin as the red headed stepchild of HoT. Get it together, Auric.

This is the case with nearly every game… Except that in GW2 in terms of lore, HoT is more like the third expansion!
