never been to fight club, i think it’s a silly thing. what i find most amusing in this situation is that people are very angry with [Mend], however if it had been PAXA it might have got maybe 1 or 2 comments and then been forgotten.

[Mend] did what so many others would LOVE to do, and what many others HAVE done in the past.

everyone isn’t obligated to participate in your arbitrary rules, so losing your kitten when they don’t is … well … silly.

here’s a novel concept …. and i realize this might be hard for you to grasp .. but there are 3 exits from spawn, so why not take one of your other options?

if you are dumb enough to continuously exit via the one being spawn camped then you are dumb enough to deserve to be spawn camped.

it’s like .. if you choose door 1 you will get kicked in the nuts when you walk through, but if you choose door 2 or 3 you will be able to safely walk out in to the world. yet, you are taking door 1 and complaining about being kicked in the nuts.

what baits people in to forum warrior’ing is when you make blanket statements and pass judgement on an entire server based on a few encounters with a mere fraction of it’s population, rather than on the merits of all the individuals that play on that server.

someone said hod lacks skill, i countered with ioj gets wiped by less than half it’s numbers – and now everyone is up in arms about who is better/more skilled. point proven, i should think.

what you don’t see much of in this matchup thread is people giving credit to the good fights, and that is terribly disappointing. :/

ioj in general is losing because they have 25+ person groups, both pugs and guild teams, that are dying to less than half their numbers.

mass invis affects more people because it’s an elite skill. if it didn’t go over the aoe cap it would be a pointless & redundant thing with a stupidly long CD, a short invis duration, and a waste of a skill slot entirely.

our forums are moderated in moderation, but on the subject you are discussing – there was actually a joke thread made a few weeks ago because there was a decided lack of kittening and complaining and swearing going on. it made a lot of people LOL.

to add to what glorious Mergh has said, HoD has a rather nice balance of people who like to play for good fights & people who like to play for the PPT.

miraculously … we all get along & enjoy the game together. even more miraculous, we all show up to fight whether we’re winning or losing, regardless of who we’re matched against.

HoD as a server just really likes to fight, and we (overall) don’t care if we win or lose so long as the fights are good.

something worth considering, i think, if you’re looking for the good fights as opposed to just winning.

i thought we were supposed to get more varied matchups … not the same matchup week after week.

I wouldn’t be so quick to come to this conclusion.

i realize this was facilitated by DR & IoJ’s extreme and unnatural hate for each other, but i maintain that FC does have the population to be competitive with other servers.

ET on the other hand is lucky if they can get 25 people at prime time, and until this changes they are not capable of being competitive with anyone and, in fact, unbalance any matchup they are in by allowing the stronger server to focus fire and artificially dominate.

To be fair, when FC was match with IoJ and DR we did much better than we did this week or against GoM. We did better because ET doesn’t take as big a shot as we do. It hurts us more when ET can’t roll with the third server.

If people would transfer down to ET (or FC) I would be really grateful. It would help us both out more than you can imagine.

this is very true. when paired against IoJ and DR without ET in the mix, FC was able to hold it’s own against DR. it would be ideal to see some transfers to ET to help bring them up to a more even playing field. right now they are in a very underpopulated class of their own (WvW wise), while there are maybe 6 servers above them capable of being somewhat competitive with each other.

new system is doing something the old one couldn’t. it’s putting servers that were sitting at artificially high standings down, and servers that were stuck at artificially low standings up. yes there are some blowouts along the way, and those may not be the most fun matches ever, but even then you should be able to find good fights somewhere.

i am enjoying this very much. “losing” the ppt battle to BP was more preferable to beating the snot out of ET/FC. at least while facing BP there were people to fight. most of the time when matched with ET or FC it’s hard to find anything other than NPC’s, and when you do find either server it’s typically their entire WvW population in one zerg (i realize for ET this is actually true and i feel very sad for them).

about the VP vs KoM at bay thing:

you didn’t faceroll KoM. you didn’t kill anyone. you ran out, downed but did not finish one person, killed siege, got a few of your people killed & then ran back in to bay where you proceeded to emote and set off fireworks from the wall while the rest of your team tried to defend against the northern attack from BP.

KoM set up some siege to get you to come out and fight – the siege served no other purpose aside from getting YOU to come out from behind your walls and fight person to person. obviously you were more interested in fighting siege than people.

you can use whatever line you wish, you started out by saying you were looking for fights of equal numbers and switched your story to you just wanted to hold bay for the tick. doesn’t matter. you had opportunity, you passed it up, and you lied about it. the first two things are pretty inconsequential, but lying and throwing excuses is a poor way to build a good reputation for your guild.

all that aside:

i’ve really enjoyed the matchup. i don’t mind being zerged down, i really expected to die a lot more than i have considering i’ve been using a staff ele all week & have not played one prior to this in wvw. for the most part it’s been good fun times and good fun fights (if a slightly painful learning curve), with the many friends and guilds i am privileged to know & be invited to run with.

i look forward to an opportunity to face DR without a higher tier server breathing down both our necks, so we may get better acquainted and test each others mettle more accurately.

he won a BIG, GIGANTIC, ENORMOUS, SPARKLY, DAZZLING pile of nothing but OHMIGAWD is he ever proud of it!!

can’t speak for everyone, and obviously not for the negative nancies that already posted, but i had a hell of a lot of fun last night & have every intention of continuing to have fun for the rest of the match-up.

Oh look, it’s Zombieland … that Guild that refused to attend a server wide meeting of WvW Guild leaders because it was on the community mumble and NOT on their Vent. Now that’s what we call “Teamwork, ZL style” over here.

Miraculously, most here really don’t miss them. Also miraculously, our WvW activity is infinitely improved & better coordinated on Henge since they left and took their ALL CAPS LOCK ALL THE TIME brand of Commanding and “Our way or no way” attitudes with them.

FC & ET guys insult their own small man teams when they insult PAXA. there are teams on all 3 of our servers that are very capable of doing these things with 5 or less players, and that go out and do it nearly every day.

i don’t understand why people put PAXA down.

they do what they do very well. they are as likely to jump the solo guy as they are to jump in a supply camp with 20+ people standing there unaware of what’s about to land on their head. <- seen that a few times, and it’s pretty hilarious.

if everyone that got ganked by more than even numbers came on here and cried about it …. kitten … we’d need a separate server for each match-up thread to handle the qq’ing.

well i would assume the pursuit of points for no reason must be because it’s fun, and if it isn’t because they think it’s fun then i’d really have to wonder about their mental health and stability.

i assume PAXA does what it does because they enjoy it (for various reasons), much like those who play for points enjoy it (for various reasons). there is no in game reward for either format of play, and it’s all a matter of personal satisfaction/enjoyment/fulfillment/fun.

i don’t think anyone questions which type of “fun” takes more skill, but the arguments that pop up about who’s fun is more justified is … erm … a bit silly.

most of the ppt players on henge adore PAXA & admire their skills, and they encourage people to become better individual players instead of blobby zergers. our wvw community considers them an integral part of our make-up & whether they play for points or not they do inadvertently help everyone that does by being general bad kitten and messing kitten up all over the place. kittened kittening kittens. =^.^=

any server that has groups like them should consider themselves lucky, and on henge we are very lucky to have a few groups.

and all of the supposed skill it takes to do any of these things doesn’t win you anything different in last place in the bottom tier than it does in first place in the top tier.

that’s the point you’re missing. it doesn’t mean anything.

play and have fun in whatever capacity you want to play and have fun but please don’t pretend that your version of fun is somehow more valid than PAXA’s, because at the end of the day you both win the same big shiny pile of nothing.

^ this is mostly accurate. henge is primarily NA, with a few aussies and oceanics. our “night crew” is pretty slim and has always struggled.

you weren’t outmanned by henge, but rather by et (1st pic, maybe 8 of us and your orange swords – two mesmers on our team so we get extra dots).

however, that aside, picture number two is by far my favorite part of last night. whoever you were, your badness was not unnoticed.

there are dedicated players in every tier but the difference between the ones in our lower tiers vs the ones in your higher tiers is we’re dedicated to having fun and good fights, whereas you’re dedicated to winning nothing in particular. you win the same thing in your tier that we do in ours, regardless of what color you play as – the prize is the same – a big fat lot of nothing.

i can’t believe people spend money to transfer so they can brag about winning nothing … that just totally blows my mind.

there were only about 4 people guarding the keep, everyone else went to take other objectives – this is how we capped 2/3rds of your bl last night (and by we i mean mend, phze, fkb, and all us pugs).

flappy ran his small guild group with a couple of pug tag alongs. phazeon ran his small guild group with a bunch of pug tag alongs. battlecamp ran a small skirmish team. while the numbers were probably unnecessary, it was a good exercise in co-ordination and working together.

our ability to communicate and return to defend a point isn’t really what i’d call sitting in a keep, but it is a far superior tactic to qq’ing on the forums.

and you’re right, considering the numbers we had on last night (holding our bl, holding most of your bl, holding the lower half of fc’s bl, and holding in eb), it was a very efficient use of manpower that pulled us ahead in ppt & helped us catch up to fc this morning. thanks for noticing. =^.^=
