Mobile Authenticator malfunction?

in Account & Technical Support

I was awoken at 2:30 in the a.m. by a text from the authenticator system with a login code. Since I had been sleeping I was obviously concerned, but the system here shows no new or different login information.

Is this an error, if so is it with the mobile authenticator (malfunctioning) or with the security information under my account (not displaying the unauthorized login correctly)?

The issue people in general have is even if they didn’t want boosters they are inherently more valuable, as per the game economy, than a ToT bag.

Boosters value is 100-150 gems, approximately 30g.

ToT value is currently around 5 and a half silver, or less than 1 gem.

There is a value loss of nearly 100%, that’s a huge disparity, and the other QoL improvements don’t make up for that loss of value.

That’s not an inherent value. ANet artificially sets the prices of the boosters… if they set them to 1 gem, you’re argument would be completely invalidated. Also, boosters cannot be sold in the TP, where as the ToT bags can. So the ToT bags are more valuable for the game economy because boosters have 0 value. Your reasoning makes no sense.

For me personally, even if the boosters were set at 1 gem, I still wouldn’t buy or use them…. the ToT bags have more value for me than any booster does.

~EW

Remove ToT bags from every other source in the game.

Put them on the gem store for 100 gems for a regular, 150 gems for a personalized.

Do not change the current loot table.

Is it still worth 30g to you?

My #1 issue with it, though, is it’s replaced a BLTC item with an in game drop. The allure and fun of chests and keys was getting things that aren’t otherwise available for purchasing (even boosters I forget to use).

All home instance nodes have been removed from the loot table for BL chests except for the ghost pepper harvesting node, as someone pointed out. RIP home instance completion, unless these are added back in (or unless this is a mistake and the preview simply isn’t showing them for some reason—if so that should be clarified) most of us will be unable to continue trying to flesh out our home instances because the prices on all TP-tradeable nodes are going to skyrocket.

Please tell us the preview window isn’t accurate and these are still able to drop?

So I’m just guessing here, but it makes sense if you preview the loot table and look at the name of the chest – it’s called a Halloween Chest – and all of the items currently in the loot table are Halloween themed in some fashion … ghost peppers.

Get it?

The other nodes will likely be available during other seasons, time will tell how they sort them to make sense. On one hand it sucks because it’s going to increase the cost of all nodes during their off season, on the other hand it reduces your chance of getting one you don’t want if you refrain from gambling during their peak season & also lets you buy for cheaper during that time.

That’s my guess, it could be wrong.

I’m not happy that 1 of the 3 rewards was a guaranteed ToT bag. I don’t want to sound greedy but… really?

Pretty much how I feel. Before, during festivals, the seasonal drop was the fourth reward. And now it replaces a reward. I’d rather have a booster.

The very least they could have done was to make it a personalized ToT bag. :/

Seconded. Seasonal drop should be a 4th bonus reward, not replace something otherwise useful with easily farmable bags of junk (most of the contents of which are worthless and useless to the point that even the tradeable ones aren’t worth selling).

Please, Anet, we don’t want to buy garbage.

A+ on the rest of the chest update, definitely QoL improvements the rest of the way around.

WvW Poll 31 May: Mixed Borderlands (CLOSED)

in WvW

Posted by: obastable.5231

What’s next?

  • We’ll poll the community to see if at least 75% of them would like to see the Desert Borderlands permanent removed. This won’t be next weeks poll, but likely the week after that.
  • If players vote to remove DBL, then the results of this poll will be void (as we’ll only have one borderlands map.) Otherwise, we’ll move forwards with the results of this poll.

Why wasn’t this the first poll?

If you determine that one map is to be removed, there would be no reason for asking about a rotation preference. If both are kept then there’s a point to having this poll.

Asking which rotation preference we would like assumes we want a rotation in the first place.

This is, potentially, a very silly waste of time.

Hypothetically Speaking... New Worlds?

If it were up to me .. I’d take the bottom 6 servers in NA and merge them in to 3, and set their permanent population cap at somewhere between “medium” and “low” and advertise that these are permanent low population WvW servers designed for their specific style, and then do something similar with the middle servers for medium/high population. That would allow you to move ahead with merging some servers (please give them new names, things that honor the merge and recognize the contributions of both servers to the new team) but also preserve the play styles of the people who are on them by choice. Close them to incoming transfers for the first three weeks while offering all current residents a free transfer off – this would mean merging one set – waiting while their populations choose to stay or go – then merging the next set, allowing for the lower tiers to move up if they wish without being locked out of the mid tiers.

I dunno if I explained that well, I haven’t had any coffee yet and I’m sick. Bleh.

I don’t recall but I think I voted for the show me the results option. I’m not ambivalent on the matter, it’s revitalized the feeling of the game and has brought some players back, but I personally don’t care for it. I feel like there could have been more options included in here rather than yes/no/results.

I don’t want to be on a high population server with queues. I don’t play often any more but it’s nice to log in and be able to play, rather than log in and look at the queues and then log off again. It’s probably been a few solid months since I’ve played WvW but the few times I’ve had the time to play I’ve had no inclination to sit in a queue and opted to log off and go play something else. I’m sad about this but my free time is sparse and waiting to have fun isn’t how I want to spend it. With unlinked worlds at least I know if I’m going to have queues to deal with. World linking means I have no control, and unless transferring becomes free and available to do more than once a week I just can’t agree with world linking being a solution. I’d just as soon stop playing altogether than fork out $$ and wait to transfer every time I want to play WvW.

Official Feedback Thread: WvW Stability

in WvW

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

It’s strange to me that the question being focused on here is, essentially, about how to fix stability in WvW, rather than how to fix the problem of the entire game mode being so heavily reliant on one, and only one, boon.

In WvW the issue isn’t stability so much as the amount of individual skills piled on top of each other that can affect it, so maybe instead of tweaking stability further you could put some thought in to how to bring the skills that operate on it in to a healthy balance.

This was a really good start, but there should be significantly more discussion about how to balance CC and boon stripping in such a way that no one class, specialization, skill, boon, or number of people becomes mandatory to being competitive or successful in WvW.

That being said I don’t have any suggestions to offer as I’ve had next to no time to play lately, but a bunch of my Guild are logging in and enjoying the game again and that gives me great hope that you’re on the right track.

Legendary weapons

HoT delivered everything they said it would. Word for word. That some people don’t like it or parts of it, or that there are bugs are irrelevant of the fact that everyone got what they paid for.

There was no promised timeline of when new legendaries would be released post-HoT, only that it would ship with 3 (which it did) and the rest would come eventually. Even if they come 8 years from now they will still be “on time” and delivering on promised content. This doom and gloom talk is ridiculous, mainly because you all agreed to the ToS & EULA which gives them full rights to modify/remove access to any content at any time but also because you’re complaining about not getting exactly what you were promised when you got exactly what was promised.

Any legal action would be a waste of your money as the onus is on you to prove that Anet deceived you intentionally and took your money knowing they weren’t going to give you the product as advertised, or to somehow prove that the ToS & EULA don’t apply to you.

A link keeps popping up about the legendary weapons, but even it explicitly states that HoT will ship with 3, and the rest will come eventually with no timeline given for when that eventually is or how that eventually will be delivered. Only that HoT will give you exactly THREE. When you paid for HoT you paid for those three and none others. You did not pay for non-existent future content.

No one was ripped off.

No one was lied to.

Your top 5 priorities for WvW-Overhaul

in WvW

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

Hi all,

This is a great thread. It’s constructive. We’re all reading it and referring to it in team discussions.

As we said in the AMA, our top internal priorities have been population balance and rewards. From this thread, your top five priorities are, in order:
1. Stability & skill balance
2. Fix or revert DBL
3. Rewards
4. Population balance
5. Scoring

Yes, we will take the feedback and make stability, general skill balance, and fixing/reverting DBL our top priorities. We’re not currently working on scoring and that has to be a longer-term project.

Karl is working specifically on WvW-focused skill balance. He’s looking for the wins for WvW that don’t screw the rest of the game.

We’re investigating whether to fix or revert DBL. They’re both a lot of work. These next couple days will be your last chance to give feedback before we make a decision, so speak now or forever hold your peace.

I want to reiterate that everything we work on either ships in April or starts beta-testing on Live servers in April. We’re locking down dev work for the April release soon — next up is localization, QA, integration and regression testing — but we’ll extend the deadline for WvW skill balance.

There is one thing that doesn’t need to get wrapped up into the April release: Friday night resets. That doesn’t require a Live build. We’ll do it.

Mo

I don’t post often but this is worth responding to. Thank you, Mike, for taking the time to communicate with us as much as you have since stepping in to this role. I like your list but I’d rearrange a few things.

1. Stability & Skill balance – without a doubt these are the top priority.

2. Fix or revert DBL – I don’t see how you can fix it to a point that it provides the spaces and playing type that the Alpine map does. Tirzah’s work on this map IS phenomenal, though, and it has great merit and potential to be an amazing PvE zone. Her work need not be wasted, just implemented in a different (and more fitting) game mode.

3. Population Balance – Obviously an ongoing issue but a worry for me here, and I’m sure for many others who’ve invested themselves and their money in supporting a community, is how this will affect those existing establishments.

4. Scoring – The score only matters for some people. I’d argue, it matters to the people who are still playing and not so much to the people who left when the map and skill (primarily stability and CC) changes eliminated the fights. Also very closely tied with #3. I know the theory is that scoring creates the need for fights but I think it has been demonstrated a fair bit that we don’t need a scoring incentive to fight each other, we just need the opportunity. For me the scoring is only on the list to satisfy the vocal minority.

5. Communication – You NEED someone who actually plays and is involved in this game mode to be a conduit between the community and the developers. Not a “Forum Expert”, not a handful of streamers that curate their game play to attract viewers and make money, but people from the normal Guilds that play WvW. Most of those Guilds have 50 or less members and aren’t Really Big Things in a dozen other games … these small, normal, average Guilds are (were) the core of your WvW population. Find someone there you like, hire them or contract them as a remote worker and let them talk to your community – let them talk to your developers – let information pass back and forth.

You have no idea how much fear and trepidation there is about the forthcoming WvW “overhaul” that everyone is talking about but no one is actually talking about.

Many Shubs and Zuuls knew what it was to be roasted in the depths of a Slothasor that day, I can tell you!

Questions!

Are the Grublings some form of Vinz Clortho and Zuul, or are those two yet to be revealed?

Will Gozer take on a different form for a future fight (one with marshmallows maybe)?

Most importantly! Do we get lasers? If so, can we cross the streams?

Is the release date for this, by any chance, April 1st?

The raid is a collection of puzzles. Once you figure each one out it’s no longer difficult to perform.

A group in our Guild has had moderate success in the raid and has made a point of making sure everyone else that has interest doesn’t get left behind – we move people through in groups to help them learn the puzzles so they can (ideally) continue to be successful regardless of who they get in a group with.

They are taking active measures to discourage WvW, it just doesn’t make sense. If “character progression” was really a thing, why aren’t mastery per character?

Because it was supposed to be alt friendly, but only in PvE and sPvP apparently. Even at the initial HP cost it was still more alt friendly in PvE than in WvW, but people complained about the time it took to get one character through with the mastery levels necessary to rush repeats through, and people complained about the HP’s themselves being too difficult (some of them legit were hard as kitten), and hey guess what? They were all scaled back – less mastery levels needed, less challenging HP’s, less HP total to unlock the specializations.

AND YET these things are supposed to be character bound? You’re kidding, right?

Earning specializations (skills and traits) is intended to be character progression. Ex: If you want to fully train up your warrior, you actually need to play your warrior for some amount of time.

If earning specializations is supposed to be character progression and require playing that class for some amount of time then please remove account bound mastery systems that provide easy access to elite specializations across multiple characters to PvE players only.

I played one class through the new content just long enough to unlock enough HP to have access to my elite specialization. Redoing it on subsequent characters takes an “investment” of approximately 20-40 minutes, depending on who’s around to help kill Champs. If that’s what you consider “some amount of time” then just give us a 40 minute gating period before we can actually access the specialization on a different class in WvW.

Comparatively this has failed to provide equal access, or even access that makes sense in terms of the future state of game. Are we supposed to sit on stacks of these Heroics so we can auto level future specializations, or are we supposed to just waste space saving the extras that will be made useless at some future point so we don’t have unfair access to the next specialization?

What was the thought process about the future use of these Proofs? What point is there to earning (or keeping them) once we have everything unlocked on a character?

This is not a good mechanic as implemented. It’s not awful, and if it wasn’t character bound it would be somewhat on par with the PvE friendliness of the account bound mastery system, but it just seems so poorly thought out.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

Unless I am mistaken just to unlock half of the training line, we need 212 hero points?

It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.

You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.

Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

Hi Colin, I have a question regarding this in relation to the rate of gain in WvW.

How many Proof of Heroics are granted on a rank gain? Does this system take in to consideration the balance between different WvW types of play? Will I, as a solo and small group (5 or less) roamer, be able to progress in the Elite Specialization track at a fair rate against someone who participates in zerg play or karma / WXP farming in EoTM?

I guess what I’m really asking is have the WvW rewards been balanced or does it still only reward one type of play (zerg)?

My concern is that it’s going to take me 6 years to unlock these Elite Specializations across all of my different classes. I think that’s an honest and fair question given that I have at least 1 level 80 of every class and regularly play at least 5 of them, and while WXP is account bound these Hero Points and Specialization unlocks are not.

Some people in the Desert BL map have stated that they have access but have not gotten the email. I asked the people that stated this if they checked their spam folder but they also checked their spam folders.

If there is to be another Desert BL test, other than the shield generator feature, the sending out of emails should be looked into.

Yeah, out of over 2 dozen people in my Guild that we know for sure (now, thanks to this PSA by Anet) only 3 of us got email notifications and we are ALL signed up for them.

So that’s the bulk of one Guild at least, in its entirety, that has missed 2/3rds of this stress test. How many others?

I’m pretty sure they KNOW now that something isn’t working right, otherwise they wouldn’t be reminding people about the beta. I was playing in it for HOURS and barely saw anyone else, either team mate or enemy.

World Population Changes Are Coming

in WvW

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

There aren’t even enough OCX players in tier 1 to form queues on ONE map on all 3 T1 servers in NA let alone spread out to 6 or more servers. This change really does nothing to balance out anything, they should have looked at timezone server status rather than across the board because having 100 people during SEA is different to having 100 people in NA prime.

I don’t think there’s any disagreement that this concept and its implementation is primarily focused at the main population of both server sets, that being EU and NA prime.

If the Guilds & players from both of those time zones destacked and spread out there would probably be full maps across all servers in their prime play times. Realistically that isn’t going to happen, however further stacking is also not going to happen and the lower tiers are going to gain more healthy WvW populations.

A+. It doesn’t serve everyone, but it does serve the majority even if they don’t yet realize it.

Problem with skill queuing since Patch.

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

Any update to this? It’s really making it a nightmare for me to play. To queue up skills, I have to spam the button to make sure it activates immediately after. For example, as a mesmer, I queue up duelist, magic bullet, and confusing images. For each of these, I have to press the skill 2-3 times in succession for it to activate immediately on completion.

The problems is also evident when wanting to use a skill after dodging. Previously I could press a skill mid dodge and it would activate when the dodge was over. Now I need to spam it repeatedly to make sure it starts.

I was playing with this a bit today and if you start a sequence of skills it will always skip the same skills in the sequence (at least for me).

For instance, on Ele with Fire, Water, Arcane lines selected but NO major traits chosen it always skipped the following skills per weapon set:

D/D
queuing skills 1-5
fire – 4
water –
air – 4
earth – 3, 4
*
queuing skills 5-1
fire – 4, 3
water – 3, 2
air – 4
earth – 4, 3, 2

D/F
queuing skills 1-5
fire – 4
water – 4
air – 4
earth – 3
*
queuing skills 5-1
fire – 3, 2
water – 4, 3
air – 4
earth – 2

S/F
queuing skills 1-5
fire – 3, 4
water – 3
air –
earth – 3
*
queuing skills 5-1
fire – 3, 2
water – 4, 3
air – 4
earth – 2

S/D
queuing skills 1-5
fire – 3, 4
water – 3
air –
earth – 3, 4
*
queuing skills 5-1
fire – 4, 3, 2
water – 3, 2
air –
earth – 3, 2

Staff
queuing skills 1-5
fire –
water – 3, 4
air – 3, 4
earth – 4
*
queuing skills 5-1
fire – 3, 2
water – 4, 3, 2
air – 4, 3
earth – 4

I toyed with a few more randomized queues and it always skipped the same ones in those less organized sequences, too. The only thing I really noted offhad from glancing at this is for some weapons when you reverse the queue order it still skips the same skills (ex: 3, 4 / 2, 3).

I hope this gets fixed soon, can’t do most of my combos with this bug.

I’ve been having the same problem ever since the patch with my Elementalist,

The instances of this happening seems diminished for me on Elementalist and Mesmer both when I turn on the new “Lock ground target at maximum skill range” feature, at least as long as the ground targeted AoE’s and blinks go.

Maybe it was a thing of practice instead? Or maybe you changed a trait. The queue-ing issues seem to mostly happen when traits do active effects on F1-F5 skills.

Hmm couldn’t say, and didn’t get a chance to play today to see if that was it.

Because of it, now everyone thinks that way: what am I paying for? And I’m afraid you’re technically correct on that one. If one buys a product, then the price tag on that product should be about what that product has to offer.

Yes, it is technically correct, though you are confusing the value of a thing with the price of a thing – these are not one and the same. When a product is marketed to me at $50-$100 for it, I expect that content to have value.

If everyone who doesn’t buy that content is getting most of it for free, the content I am paying for drastically increases in price while decreasing in value.

This shouldn’t be hard to understand, and the people who DO purchase the expansion shouldn’t be expected to cover the cost of everyone who doesn’t purchase it yet gets free access to 70% of the same content anyway.

Poor business practice.

This is for weapon and armor currently – weapons use the same recipe as armor to stat change except they use inscriptions to allow you to change instead of insignias.

Alas yes it does destroy the runes and sigils in the item, the mystic forge doesn’t currently have a way to allow us to do this kind of stat changing without it working that way.

Is there perhaps a way to implement this that allows us to extract the runes/sigils that we’ve already paid for and invested in to with our Ascended gear? A separate Ascended Forge tab maybe? We could put in the Ascended item and it’d first display similar to an upgrade extractor with 4 slots below it to put in the ingredients to change the stats – select the upgrades you want to extract and click “Begin” and it spits out your stat changed Ascended item and whatever upgrades you extracted from it.

Yes, I know, upgrade extractors exist but they are gem store exclusive and too expensive. Either make them more accessible, create a version that is only usable on Ascended equipment that players can craft and/or access with a PvE and WvW currency (your spirit shards and badges of honor perhaps) or figure out another way to let people get their upgrades out. Do something, if you do nothing you’re just changing the rules and punishing people.

A Detailed Comparison for HoT

I thought the new PvP Map, the new WvW map and the new guild halls will be available also to players that did not by HoT. Am I wrong?

Guild halls are located in the Jungle, so I’m not sure how this would work for those without the expansion. The PvP and WvW maps are included, so far as I know.

Things that are GW2 updates, and not part of the expansion:

- Stronghold
- WvW Borderlands map
- Guild Halls
- Mastery System (however there are area specific mastery lines that are inaccessible without the expansion).
- Raid type content, however / whenever they implement it

While these things are being released simultaneously WITH the expansion, they are not exclusive to those who purchase it. Anet has already said that we will be able to use Guild Halls, Raid content (when it comes), Masteries, and both new PvP maps whether we buy the expansion or not.

IMHO that means they aren’t to be considered in the cost of it.

What you ARE paying for if you buy the expansion:

- Access to the Revenant class
- Access to the jungle map expansion in PvE
- 9 Class Specializations

Going by what Anet has said I don’t believe the map population is a set number, but rather a percentage of available resources. The WvW wiki article also points toward this.

Say your available resources for a map is 80%, divided equally between 3 servers = 26% of resources allocated per server. I think this is why there’s no definitive number floating around of what the map population cap actually is, because that number flexes according to what’s available resource wise.

There was an incomplete list of things posted long ago by a Dev. that mentioned siege, population, upgrades, pets, clones, minions, etc., as things that used resources but I think over the years a few things have been removed from the resource “cap” for population and given separate caps (siege and siege types, minis, upgrades, but not sure about clones/pets/minions).

WvW Lag March 2015

That is, beyond a doubt, absolutely, 100%, a problem with your ISP.

Ah but that’s exactly what I was thinking as well and then I decided to play on my NA account and guess what, no lag at all!

I was having a better connection to the NA servers than the EU ones whilst I am in the UK!

There is so much more involved in a connection between you and the game than just your ISP and the game servers, though. It’s entirely possible that somewhere between your ISP in the UK and the EU servers (in Germany?) there’s a “hop” experiencing high load/stress/technical problems and as a result you’ll experience connection/lag issues there yet there’ll be no issue connecting to the NA servers because your connection isn’t going through the same routing table to reach its destination.

Reading this wiki article would probably help you understand more what I’m only kind of explaining.

If the amount of interest you have currently going for sPvP is enough to make it worth investing in, then by default so is GvG in it’s current form.

1 – Create a GvG Arena that players can purchase, identical in purpose to the sPvP Arenas but with different (largely flat) maps with a different set of administrative parameters (obviously), and using WvW available gear/items. We’ll call them Guild Arenas, and let it be the birth of Guild PvP (gPvP).

2 – Put it in the Gem shop for $20 and sell a few hundred (at least).

3 – Wait a month or two, create some hype, and let us get accustomed to the gPvP Arenas. See what works, see what needs to be fixed, give us some options to remove or disable skills from arenas the same way we remove maps from rotation.

4 – Eventually introduce an automated ladder system based on team queuing. Balance and adjust as necessary, as with any competitive PvP.

The foundations to make all of this happen already exist in the game, ya just gotta put in some time/money to make it happen. You don’t even have to offer prizes or run tournaments any time soon, just create the tools to let us begin making this “imagined” game mode something we can all enjoy.

Invest in it at least half as much as your players have.

The legal reasons have to do with labor laws being different around the world regarding volunteerism and the simple fact that U.S. laws make this permissible and legal for them to do with U.S. residents.

As I understand it, in order to do this in a way that would allow people to apply from other countries they would need to hire some lawyers there and sort out the legalities, making it very expensive to implement with zero financial return on investment.

It’s not unreasonable and it isn’t them being mean and excluding all of us outside of the U.S., but it does really suck.

RNG as a concept: Discuss

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

I know “everything is working as intended” but how it’s intended to work isn’t a very attractive system to the players.

Magic Find is supposed to be a boon to the players for RNG and what did you guys do? You added bags that weren’t affected by Magic Find. Not only that but instead of just having our MF go up automatically when we salvaged items, we had to salvage an item and get “luck” in the form of an item that we had to double-click.

Instead of streamlining the system and making it more attractive to the playerbase you opted to set up the illusion of a better Magic Find system and in fact made the odds favor the house more by adding loot that was unaffected by Magic Find.

In a word: Yuck.

I don’t even mind the unaffected bags or the Mystic Forge.

I just really hate all the clicking. I don’t understand why MF is an item we have to click to add to our account. It’s all account bound, what else are we going to do with it? Throw it away and say “NO! I don’t WANT better loot!”???

Pffft.

The current system punishes players if they don’t salvage items, and then punishes them for salvaging by making you sit there and double click forever to improve your chances of loot … and this is a system that’s supposed to have been designed to reward players.

The entire MF system could have been implemented better when it was “overhauled” to be account bound. Why did you not emulate the reward track system for sPvP?

MF should automatically add to your account when you perform activities that reward it. Also, once a player hits a certain level of MF (or the cap if there is one) they can unlock alternate reward paths that’d work like the sPvP system. MF is accumulated toward a player chosen goal of a different account bound bonus – skill point scrolls, level tomes, laurels, weapon and armor skin unlocks, WXP points, Guild influence.

Simplify MF. Reward your players.

I’ve always wondered where my account lies on the RNG field. I’ve always felt that I have comparatively horrible “luck” as compared to literally everyone else I’ve played this game with. Given my GW1 track record of taking 5 years to get a black dye drop while my guildmate got at least 8 every week … well … so far GW2 hasn’t been much better.

The community asked for Guild Wars 1 style GvG WAYYYYY before the WvW community came up with a 20v20 deathmatch ‘GvG game mode’. If you want to play zerg vs zerg, then stick to WvW. If you want to play coordinated GvG with in depth mechanics where only good players can succeed, then you’ll have to play REAL GvG GW1 style.

IF the community reaaaaaallllllly wanted a GW1 style GvG game mode they would have made it themselves in the same way they made the existing one.

But they didn’t, did they?

Expansion WvW Content

Does the expansion:

- address scoring problems
- fix population and coverage imbalances
- give better rewards for scouting and defending
- give better rewards for WvW in general
- support GvG in any way that doesn’t at all involve the restricted constraints of sPvP?

A map is nice, but also pointless if it doesn’t fix the issues that have caused you to lose enough population to make it pointless having more than 1 (sometimes 2) maps on all but a handful of servers during their prime times or on ANY server during off hours.

Can we have an E.T.A. on the GvG CDI?

in WvW

Posted by: obastable.5231

obastable.5231

GvG as it currently exists in the game (a player created fighting format in WvW) is what players want support for.

We have custom arenas that allow for GvG’s within the games sPvP mechanics, but this isn’t a thing the players are interested in.

As far as WvW goes, ANet has catered to their flawed scoring system for 2 years, much to the detriment of their own game. They have watched their WvW playerbase diminish from constant queues across all servers, to minimal queues on T1 servers.

There are many contributing factors to the loss of players and player interest, and the lack of game support aside from the creation of OS for the GvG format is indeed one of them.

There are dozens of GvG guilds that have left the game, both NA and EU. While “dozens” doesn’t sound like a lot you just have to do some simple math (or keep up with the GvG’ers) to realize that equates to, literally, hundreds of players.

If you look at the currently active (and much smaller) GvG “scene”, and do the simple math of dozens of participatory guilds, they too represent hundreds of players. I represent one small WvW guild with a roster of 50 players that all GvG.

WvW population is definitely a minority part of a minority population of the game, but people interested and participating in GvG are not the minority in WvW. People queue maps to watch them with streamers having hundreds of viewers simultaneously. No one queues maps to watch xyz blob guild cap a keep.

language is a non-factor. i’m sorry if you believe it is, but in truth it isn’t. english is the international language of business, and if i’ve learned anything over my decades of travel it’s that people outside of english speaking countries usually speak/read/write the language far better than most immigrants that’ve passed their language tests to gain citizenship. as a matter of employability most non-native english speakers begin learning english in childhood. yes, i am generalizing, but it isn’t as broad and sweeping as you’d think. i have yet to meet a single person that i couldn’t interact with in english, in any foreign country i’ve ever been to, ever. i met a 7 year old in turkey who spoke, read, and wrote better english than my neighbour. i know we like to joke at americans who think everyone speaks english outside of north america, but the truth is about 90% of them really DO.

i’m not strictly speaking in terms of “solving wvw” when i say the servers have to be merged, but rather addressing the long term fact that anet will merge them as a cost saving initiative as the game dies, as they did with gw1. for a multitude of reasons, merging servers has to happen. whether it happens now or later is only relevant to wvw as a population balance adjustment.

they will merge servers because as the population declines it is not cost effective for them to maintain 50+ separate wvw servers when the population of all of them combined could be hosted on 30 now and probably on less than 10 2 years from now.

they will merge datapoints because as the population of na and eu declines it is not cost efficient for them to maintain two when one will support them at max active capacity. latency rarely has anything to do with the datapoint itself but rather with routing, which can be an issue regardless of where the datapoint is.

our input here on the matter only bears relevance to anet in how they do it.

i’m not being dismissive of other inputs, i’m being realistic to what is going to happen. they ARE going to merge servers, it’s just a matter of how/when/where & how they balance what we want with what is cost efficient and realistic for them to both create and maintain as gw2 declines across the years.

i am in no way belittling some of the really great and creative ideas in this thread for addressing population, but they are not realistic for a 2 year old game in decline. they would be great for a new game launching, and maybe anet will take them to heart for an expansion or gw3 or even a stand alone wvw game, but for this game NOW anything that doesn’t include server merging is not being realistic to the current and future state of affairs.

servers have to be merged. there is no way around it, and nothing else at all that isn’t a punishment or a step backwards to address the population issue.

servers HAVE to be merged. this only addresses the population and coverage issue, yes, but it’s not meant to address the ppt issue (which also doesn’t address the coverage issue).

anet has the wvw metrics of every server across every time zone. i’m sure it’s already been said but i’m just going to reiterate it to show support:

step 1 – merge NA & EU. yes, there will be language problems, but they will be overcome in gw2 as they were in gw1. the language barrier is virtually non-existent and is only made issue of by lazy/ignorant people who are afraid of everything different.

step 2 – merge servers according to metrics of wvw participation to create as balanced and even coverage as possible. if any gaps exist then open a free transfer from ONLY the most populous in that time to ONLY the least populous, limit it by number & publish that number in real time if you have to so you don’t split guilds.

yes people will complain, but it will be short lived and whether it happens now or in a year when the game is even less populated than it is now, it’s going to happen either way in the end.

it is sad and disappointing that you’ve left the problems of WvW to fester for so long and bled so many players, but with attention and care i hope it can be fixed. please, for the love of all that is holy and brilliant in RvR/PvP, save this game mode. there is nothing at all that even compares to your combat system, anet. nothing. you have designed the penultimate and all others are held to your standard.

if the reward was the same for defending as it was for capping people might actually defend more. cap something and you get karma, wxp, xp, money, ascended crafting mats, badges, and champ bags (chance at exotics and fancy things).

defend something and you get some karma, xp, wxp.

see why no one defends (other than yaks bend)?

probably not easy to implement, but i always thought it’d be nice if you could set a default value on your preferred play style and be rewarded appropriately.

ie: offensive, defensive, scrim

offensive: your rewards are scaled appropriately up for caps, yaks, offensive siege usage and scaled DOWN for player kills and defending.

defensive: opposite of above obviously – rewarded higher for escorts, upgrades, and defending, less reward for attacking and player kills.

scrim: rewarded more for player kills, less reward for capping or defending.

let us toggle between these 3 at least for individual rewards. there’s really no reason not to, and it would encourage people to do something other than karma train.
