Nope, it’s not the cannons with red circles. This is something else entirely. It happens BEFORE you get to the boulder part, while you’re still on the candy cane stick. If you don’t dodge you die in another 2 ticks. I’m not having problems with the red circles.

I keep getting “learn the patterns” which I have basically done now after like 50 attempts, but there is still that weird thing which keeps knocking off my health. Some other poster was rude about it, and another one says it’s a bug.
If it’s the bug, then it’s really bad It basically ruins your entire attempt.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Nothing seems different with the exception that I’m more consistently hitting that fall bug while running down the candy cane after the presents.
Which fall bug is that?
The one you normally see if you jump down a hill and take fall damage as you walk down it. I think the one in the JP is tied to if you dodge roll down the candy cane.
This is a video of the bug:
That’s similar to what’s happening to me, except it leaves me with about 600 health and seems to only happen right after the skritt yell.

You must not be experiencing what I’m talking about at all.
When you’re on the way down the candy cane stick, AFTER the snowman, you hear a skritt yell “attack!” or “get it!” or something like that, and if you do not dodge or are too early/late, ALL of your health is gone except like 600 hp. This is before you even get to where the boulder is rolling. There is no red ring which appears on the stick.
Maybe you need to do it a few more times or something, cause it sounds like you’ve only done it once or twice this year and something might have been changed.
Lol hardly. Made it past that point more than “one or twice”. Maybe you need to improve on recognising the patterns as besides my perception of the time allowance to work through that section possibly being decreased, nothing changed regarding the skritt attack patterns. Or maybe stop standing there waiting on the candy cane.. again.. patterns…
So you came in here to troll a frustrated player. I see.
You made no mention at all of the part which I just pointed out, so apparently there is no “pattern” for it. After I pointed it out your response is “lol stop standing there lol”. Nice. But since it makes you feel better to be kitteny, go ahead, nobody is stopping you.

The giant snowballs aren’t as bad as the random skritt and icy blasts knocking off health, and the red rings on the ground that are too wide to dodge all the way from one side to the other. If you’re forced to wait too long you just die.
Those aren’t random. They’re the same pattern as the past two years.
But, it did feel like we’ve even less time to navigate that area this year. There’s very little room for error on the last stretch. You can only wait for 1 extra snowball or the 1st icy wind from the snowman. Waiting a second time for anything isn’t really possible. Maybe I’m remembering incorrectly but I seem to remember that last stretch being a bit more generous. I’d usually have more health left at the end than I do now.
And how about a player who does everything right the first time and makes it past the presents? They have no way of knowing a skritt is about to throw ice at them and knock almost all their health off, do they? The only warning is “attack!!!” being yelled. Yeah, dodge when you hear it, but they wouldn’t think anything of it. It’s pretty unfair.
And as I said before, you can get some bad luck with boulders going and then 1-2 red rings appearing right after it passes, so then you have to wait for the next one to pass. The red rings are too wide to make it all the way across.
Like I said, usually I really like jumping puzzles, but 15 times is just stupid. They must be really proud of that puzzle.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
The presents and Giant Snowballs are difficult, but once you figure out the pattern it is actually easier than the snow flakes.
As for the wind gusts dodge through the first one, the others you dont have to worry about unless you go to high on the peppermint candy to avoid the snowball.
The skritt cannons should not be an issue if your timing is correct.
It will never be easier than the stationary snowflakes where I never have to time my jumps or dodge. The giant snowballs aren’t as bad as the random skritt and icy blasts knocking off health, and the red rings on the ground that are too wide to dodge all the way from one side to the other. If you’re forced to wait too long you just die.

I’ll have to run it again and see if there’s anything I can say to help you. All I remember is that you could get hit by the Boulder once and still be able to make it.
The few times I’ve been hit by the boulder, it either totally knocked me off the side, or pushed be back downwards in it’s path thus hitting me multiple times.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
I just did it again. More and more often I can successfully make it past the stupid presents, only to have my health tick off so fast that it’s impossible to complete the puzzle. I’m doing everything right… The snowman didn’t blast me with ice, so idk what happened.
Super annoying.
Are you constantly moving or taking breaks between jumps?
Constantly moving of course.
The problem is there is too much random crap that can totally ruin it and no amount of “skill” really helps. The presents can make you fall, icy blasts can knock your health off, skritt can randomly shoot ice or something at you when you finally make it to the end part, which knocks off so much health that you have no chance of making it.
I’m not complaining that it’s hard, I’m complaining that it’s hard, too much random chance, AND we have to do it 15 times for the achieve/title. I’m not here for advice, I’m here to complain/see if anyone else agrees.

Lol, then I got to the very end and made it to the first blue present on the final stretch. Nope, big boulder was close enough to completely knock me off.

I know, I’ve figured that out, but it’s such a random factor.
Not to mention if you actually manage to get past them there are icy blasts which can knock your health down and you have no chance to get to the end. You also need even MORE good RNG, because if there is a big ball rolling at you and you hide on a ledge, and then there are immediately 1-2 red circles after the ball goes, you’re basically screwed because your health ticks off too fast.
15 times. It should have been 5 or 10 at the absolute most.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
The present part is the worst.
I want to get at least all the achieves for the title (I’m not going beyond that just to get AP), but this one is really going to be bad. I’ve gotten it once out of like, 20 attempts, with most failed at the present part. I’m sure I’ll get it; after all I just need to do like one a day to make it, but seriously, FIFTEEN times??
Ouch.
Edit to add: I’m not even bad at jumping puzzles and I actually really enjoy them, but VERY few of them would I voluntarily go out and repeat 15 times. Mostly just the pretty ones and certainly not ones with such a random factor.
Edit: To avoid even more confusion in the replies, yes, there IS a “random factor”. There is a bug at the end of the puzzle when you’re walking down the candy cane. It knocks off 80% of your health.

My husband and I are still learning the game, and we recently started on the living story. We have been getting some of the MF ingredients for Mawdrey thrown at us by the stories we complete, so we decided to go ahead and try to get the backpiece since we don’t have an ascended one yet.
Well, we’re fairly new and we don’t know how long a living story season lasts, so we don’t know if we have time to grind out the dust/clusters/etc. needed to craft this. We play daily but aren’t serious about anything in particular, and we jump around from pvp to fractals to dungeons to living story.
So, like the title says, would we have time (at a reasonable pace) to craft Mawdrey?
Thanks.

Yeah, happening to me also after I just bought that pretty snow globe finisher. I agree with the guy above – we didn’t buy cool ones (or earn rank ones) just to have it go back to the plain pole.
Appears to happen if you previously had the finisher window open, load a new map, and then click back to go back to your equipment or something else. You can see the finisher change back to the pole right as you click back.
Very annoying, please fix.

^ And it’s things like that that make me choose engineer over the others. I’m by no means a “great” gamer, but anyone can be pretty good with a lot of practice. It’s much more exciting to me to try to master this kind of stuff.
I guess most people get knee deep in engi, look at it as “too hard”, and then go back to their warriors. Then, since engi takes longer to figure out, they decide it probably “sucks” because they don’t know it can do those things.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Personally, I like spamming grenades. I hated the kit at first, but then I keybound all my junk to a gaming mouse, and now I AOE the crap out of everything out in the open world where the kit I use doesn’t matter. Still choose that one 80% of the time; I don’t find it stressful.
But maybe what I really wanted was a “complicated” class – something where I have a lot to learn and a lot of room to improve. I feel like some of the other ones (warrior, as I said) are very limiting. I know people play it and find it fun, but it’s too boring for me. I want to master the content, not complete it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Err, I don’t think it’s a bug? I’ve noticed it too, mostly with FT. Because you can cast it while moving, it maybe finishes the cast even though you switch kits?
Dunno..
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
As a new player myself, I can tell you that I already feel like I have SO MUCH STUFF to do just to be even half on par with someone who knows their stuff. If they had even more advantages on top of it, I wouldn’t look at the game like something I need to become more involved in. Instead, I would see it as a warning that it’s being run by a not-so-smart company.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Got the wolfineer guide favorited; it’s good. I’m using a couple builds from there
It’s a matter of taste, dis-information and being lazy.
About taste:
Many people simply don’t like the steampunkish design of the class and want to play a mighty warrior / guard, an epic caster like eles (avatar-influence says hello), be the master of death (necros) or want to be the all-superior master-teef -> thief.
Other just find it remotely compeling but got driven away by the complexity and high skillfloor-required to play engi properly.about dis-information:
welp, the eople above never really played an engi, and those who tried gave up without really looking into the class. So we have a kinda bad reputation because these people who tried, failed and rerolled a warri / guard think they’ve seen all we’re capable of.
I figured it was something along these lines. Well, I love it, but I’m going to be angry if I go into a fractal and get kicked just because of my class. Yeah, I could bring my warrior, but why would I play it when I find it so boring? But, I assume there are a lot of players out there who won’t judge you for the class you play as long as you play it well.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Well if that’s the case, then mesmer definitely sounds like a lot more fun. Won’t bother with ele.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Hey guys.
I was reading Chaos’s guide, and going by that, it looks like I’ll be using a lot of S/S in my time as mesmer. I plan on doing fractals with it and not much pvp, or at least not as often. However, I don’t really enjoy being melee all that much and prefer range, even if it’s just medium range (like engi). Because of that, I’m thinking maybe I should focus on ele before doing mesmer.
What are your experiences at high level fractals? Is S/S really the meta, and other things are less acceptable?
Thanks.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Ah well, I still have my non-80 mesmer to decide which one I have more fun on. But as far as I’m concerned, I’m not hopping on my warrior just to do a fractal/dungeon, especially if you guys are saying anyone who blames engi is the one at fault. Btw I am using the meta build, but of course it takes a bit of time to get used to.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
I’m having a great time on my new-80 engineer, and bought my first ascended. I previously played a warrior (pve) and found it a total snorefest. Engineer is great with a lot of ways to play and lots of abilities, compared to warrior where I felt like it was “use this build, and these weapons. No deviation.”
My question is, why don’t I see more engineers? Is there something about this class most people don’t like/just can’t get past? I feel like I see a LOT of elementalists/mesmers, but almost no engineers. Is there some pitfall to the class that I don’t know about or haven’t experienced yet, or are they just a unique preference?
I asked in map chat and was told all the generic things such as “they suck”, but others said they have lowish DPS, are not good in level 50 fractals, etc. Is that true? Do you guys ever have a hard time getting into 50 fractals on your engis?
I’m hoping there’s not some horrible reason I don’t see more of them; for example, rangers are not so common since they have a bad reputation or don’t do as much damage as other classes. There’s nothing like that going on that I haven’t noticed yet, is there? I hope not, cause I’m having so much fun it’s criminal.

How about the auto attack randomly stopping against the same enemy?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Glad someone reported this.
My husband and I came across this in game and reported it.

Happens to me occasionally as well.
The autoattack also seems like it randomly stops working sometimes, too.

Eh I thought it might be something like that. I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t missing something.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Yeah I know, but what they were saying sounded more like “if you use it, you will die [because of it]”.
No reason for that then? Must’ve just been a weird group.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
I just need help with a simple thing.
I was just in a group run in Twilight Arbor and we were doing one of the paths, and during the fight with Leurent they told me to “not actively use Healing Signet, if you do you’ll die”.
I’ve looked it up and I can’t find any reason why using healing signet = die on the fight; can somebody enlighten me?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
I bought some off the TP for cheap-ish.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Meh, I think I’m also not that huge of a fan of melee classes as mains. I thought I could get over when I chose warrior, but I haven’t yet. It doesn’t help that using number 2 with GS, the mob often moves out of range (I don’t play alone), rendering the attack useless and triggering a cooldown. I just need to find a good “fit”, and I don’t think it’s melee.
Oh yeah, and the last sentence there – I only planned on playing PvE with my warrior, even from the beginning. PvP I will be doing on either my mesmer or engineer, or both.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Oh okay, I didn’t realize it would be a waste. I thought I could leave it sit or something. Just too new to this game I guess.
I’m already working on a couple other classes that I think will be more interesting. Thanks for the help :P
Just curious, what did you not like about the class? Warrior IMO is one of the most versatile classes to play in this game, as many builds are viable to some extent. Especially in PvE.
Just feels boring AF. I’ve looked around the forums and read the guides, and compared to mesmer, which has 1,092,872,198 guides stuffed with information and different builds, “use the weapon you like” etc., and then with warrior it’s like “well if you want to DPS in a group just do this berserker build, use greatsword, etc.” (I’m paraphrasing). GS is not fun to use, and after comparing the warrior guides with that super long mesmer one I was reading, I feel like they’re not very versatile at all, and you can’t truly play the way you want to and still be viable in a group.

Don’t know, guess I’m just used to WoW-mentality where you usually would gear your character off of crap gear you bought and then let it sit in case you needed it or it became viable again.
Thanks guys.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
So basically what you’re saying is there is no good cheap gear I can get off TP.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q0OWwwqPxDI
Hey guys.
So today I have finally hit 80 on my warrior, and to be honest the last 20 or so levels were a real drag. I’ve always planned on being zerk for my warrior, and using the other classes I play for other things. However, I just am dead-bored on my warrior and wish to drop it as soon as possible and play another class. I’m not sure if it’s the weapon I was using or if I’m doing something completely wrong, but I don’t like it.
I’m pretty much a noob and not quite sure what the “check list” is for a new 80 in this game, but what I’m interested in is the most easily obtainable and decent gear I can get, whether through the trading post or earning it. I just want something I can get somewhat quickly so that I can drop my warrior, but I don’t want the gear to be bad enough that I’m gimping myself or anyone in a group, either. So, can anyone give me an idea of what I should get/where?
Thanks.

We’re now past chapter 4 and on chapter 5 if I’m correct (long break) at level 60.
I am apparently permanently Order of Whispers and stuck in the storyline, after never having received said prompt mentioned above since I was originally in my instance when this occurred.
I don’t expect there can be any “fix” for this, but please be aware that something, somewhere, went wrong.

All other MMOs: classes, professions
GW2: professions, crafting

Well since I have been doing a lot of it lately: being severely kitten mobility-wise in WvW. So annoying. If I don’t start moving right when the commander does, I’m probably going to fall wayyy behind and even die if the other server comes up on us.
I think most people probably don’t use WvW to level, and yes I understand I shouldn’t have the full benefits of being 80 while I’m still just 50, but the mobility is awful. Maybe I play the wrong classes. :P
