What WvW builds do you guys use?

in Thief

ofLegends.9853

I kinda fell in love with thief after watching Terissimo owning people :P So that’s made me want to learn the class, when I’d previously written it off (I don’t enjoy thief PvE).

There are only 2 on metabattle, and I guess this one https://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Thief_-_D/P_Roamer probably fits the best with my playstyle and what I want to get out of it. I’m going to be roaming as a duo with my necro friend. We probably won’t be taking on fights unless we have to — we’d rather just go for camps, guards, and maybe towers if we run into other small groups. High mobility is one thing I love about thief.

So, what about you guys? What build(s) are you running for thief in WvW?

I still haven’t decided what class I want to make ascended armor for for fractals, and the friend I play with is going to use guardian. I had also been considering using guardian, but I don’t know whether that’s smart to do. Is running 2 guards frowned upon? Does it lessen our chances of success?

I’m sorry for the late reply.

I also had a character who was past this particular quest but not finished with the personal story. Their quest log is also stuck here and there’s nothing I can do. I too submitted a bug report a week or so before I posted here, but I don’t think they reply to those.

I’m sorry if this has been posted, but I didn’t find it anywhere and it’s really bothering me.

I’ve got 2 characters who completed their personal stories before the quests were updated. However, their progress has been knocked back to the first quest of Chapter 7, and I can’t do it over it again, nor is there anything I can do (that I’ve noticed) to make it realize I’ve done all the quests.

Did this happen to everyone else, too? I’m just asking, as I’ve just returned from hiatus and I haven’t heard anything about this and it’s confusing me.

Charr are my favorite, followed by norn.

But I get a little OCD about having, for example, 5 charr and 3 norn, and none of the other races. What I do is create an equal amount of each race, and definitely not more than one of the same armor type.

So, I guess whatever race I have least of, that doesn’t already use the armor type of the new class.

The mistake people are making is flushing money. The vast majority of people will lose doing this. Over thousand flushs? thats over 4000 rares with a conservative price of 30s the current market value of that would be over 1200 gold before recovery value. You could have bought any precursor with that by now.

You can get a legendary in a few months time if you utilize the resources that are given to you effectively. Stop gambling your money. RNG is designed to make losers out of nearly everyone and you will always lose in the long run. Don’t salvage your rares unless you need ecto. Sell them. Never insta-sell anything at the highest buy offer. Same goes for buying things of the trade post, use buy orders. Utilize your non-gold resources such as skill points, karma, laurels, and use methods to convert them into gold. Making money is stupid easy if you are able to critically think.

22k AP and over 5,000 hours played. Never had a precursor drop nor do I farm or do anything I feel is laborious. Made the Juggernaut 6 months into the game, the only one I really felt amazed me. Have 1,000s of gold to the point I am considering making eternity and reselling it for the two GS skins and making underwater weapons for the cheeve.

Try not to focus on just making a legendary. Play the game, utilize your resources effectively, and just bank em and forget about it. When you go back to look because you think you are close. You will find that you are not as far away as you think.

I, myself, am not protesting any sort if inability for people to grind gold and buy precursors. That’s doable.

Boring, forgettable and utterly inane, but doable.

What makes earning the gold for a precursor more boring than throwing stuff into the MF hoping to get lucky?

I would rather buy a new character slot than delete a level 80. Your old character can be parked at a jumping puzzle for a daily chest and be used as for extra storage of items you don’t want to delete and don’t want cluttering up your bank. When you need to take it to a bank, you can go to WvW or PvP then return you the spot you were.

When I got a new necro, that’s what I did and my old necro is still useful. One mule with 80 slots is the same price as a 30 slot bank tab.

Some people are very bothered by having too many or multiples of the same characters.

I’ve deleted several level 80 toons because I found I did not enjoy playing them. I’ve also deleted a couple 80s post-April patch because I could not see the advantage of spending 42g and 320 skill points on the CORE character asset: Traits.

It’s easy to level in this game. Too bad ANet ruined all enjoyment of it with the trait system.

What was the trait system before? This one is all I’ve ever known.

You opened traits at level 11 (1st tier) and bought 3 books. One for minor, one for major, and one for grandmaster. Total cost was about 3g. You could just use any traits in that tier. The ONLY drawback was that you had to pay 3 SILVER to change your traits.

Wow, sounds WAY better than the system used now. It’s kind of like, if you play one character a lot and get most of the traits unlocked/bought, it feels like you’re gimping yourself when you switch to one with less.

I’m planning on making an elementalist soon, and I thought I’d be happier with a norn elementalist, but I already have a norn engineer. I have a feeling I will like elementalist a lot, and I didn’t want my top 2 played classes to both be norn females, so I thought about rerolling my engineer to be a charr instead (medium armor looks better on charr than light). After a bit of thinking, it would just be too much wasted effort. My engineer has all crafting disciplines at 400 (2 at 500), has done the whole personal story and all of the living world, has full T3 cultural armor, and I’ve spent gems expanding her bag space as well as bought a self-style hair kit. Needless to say, the elementalist will have to be charr.

But this did make me wonder: what is the most progressed character you’ve had that you actually did delete?

For the record, I find the thread misleading. It’s like those people who jokingly say “that’s racist!” when people say they like red M&Ms better than yellow. It’s stupid because they’re applying a very harsh and negative word to something small and insignificant. And your list of words certainly has a lot of small, insignificant ones on there.

I think it would be good to value both the journey and the rewards and not focus exclusively on the end result. The sub-80 you party with today, the sub-50 you teach the ropes, may become your new guildie or a valued fractal/dungeon partner in the future.

I take on board not everyone wants to go this route, but I think in the long run it can be quite rewarding in ways that are more valuable than gold and tokens.

oh, I forgot… “everyone welcome” pugs actually never complete dungeons, they ragequit after 10 wipes and then the noobs go leech “exp” groups to get smooth runs.

Well, you are wrong about that.

When myself and my husband were new to the game, we wanted to run AC because it was the first available dungeon, and we ran it either at-level or a few levels above. How could we have known better? We joined an “everyone welcome” pug, told them we didn’t have a clue, and proceeded to do the dungeon with 3 veterans. We spent hours in there on the burrows wiping, and it was far more than 10 wipes, I can guarantee that. They didn’t give up on us, and we finally completed the dungeon. We will never forget that experience and the patience of those players.

By contrast, we did arah with some haughty, gift-to-the-world thief earlier today who constantly slammed us for whatever we were “doing wrong”, even though we had done the boss before and were simultaneously looking at gw2dungeon guide. Neither of us initiated kick or said a word other than “hi” at the beginning of the dungeon. The dude straight up picked out our ~3k AP and decided we were bad and fighting the boss all wrong, despite the fact that every other dungeon group we had been in used another strategy. Another guy with ~13k AP was doing the exact same strat we were, but he had 13k and we had 3, so we must have been bad.
At the end of the dungeon, we didn’t say thanks as we usually do, but simply left.
This player, we will remember as well.

There are two types of players. Check your attitude and ensure you’re not becoming the second type.

Ugh I HATE AC. Finally got the achieve and I’m never setting foot in that place again.

But yeah, it’s the group creator’s fault for not specifying that he wants only 80s. I’ve not been kicked yet (don’t have any lowbies anymore, either), but I’ve specified a few times that I want only 80s. One time I said I wanted at least 60+, and some brazen lvl 51 joined. I thought it was rude of them when the description clearly stated 60+, but I didn’t kick. I guess it depends on the person. I’m willing to be as tolerant with people as they are with me. The least people can do is at least ASK you to leave and state their reasoning.

Question about ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: ofLegends.9853

ofLegends.9853

You can do whatever you want with the armor.
I would also recommend to not follow the “meta” because it’s “meta”. There are no runes that “should be” on any profession and the only people that will ask you to link your armor in dungeons are gold speed runners.

Another problem might be, as it’s assassin’s meta for now – on the next patch it might be that berserker’s is the new meta. and you’re “stuck” with assassin’s.

Hmm, accessories will all be berserkers, so it might balance out. I think the difference might be so small as to be negligible…..

Ascended is not needed, it’s solely for players that want to squeeze out their stats.

I think it’s also about character progression, for me at least. If I like the character enough, I upgrade their armor to ascended. That is why it’s only the 1/3 that has ascended; the other 2 aren’t as much fun :P

Question about ascended

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

ofLegends.9853

Just a quick question about ascended armor, not sure where else I could put this.

So, I’ve got 3 characters right now, one of each armor type. I’m planning to eventually have other characters in the future. I have full ascended armor (not accessories) on my engineer, which are assassin stats. My questions are:

do most people get their ascended and send it between all their characters of that same armor type?

What about when you just hop on the other character on short notice, but you forgot to send over your ascendeds?

Or, do most people have a backup set of gear (rares/exotics) just in case they forget to bank the armor?

Also, for engineer the stats for armor are supposed to be assassin (according to metabattle), but for thief and ranger they are supposed to be berserker. Is anyone going to care about such a minor difference if they make me link my gear in a dungeon/fractal?

Thanks

Deciding between Warrior or Engineer:

in Engineer

Posted by: ofLegends.9853

ofLegends.9853

Ugh, warrior was my first character. Engineer, second.

Warrior is more wanted in most things, sure. But can you change around what you want to do? Engineers can stealth, heal, direct damage, aoe, etc. I was so bored on my warrior that I just cannot bring myself to play it in any meaningful content.

Plus, when I was newer and had even less experience, I felt like people always looked at me as “the warrior” to be doing tons of damage. I’d be doing my best, and if we died (even if not my fault) it would be “do you even have zerker gear???” Nobody ever has acted like a tool to me on my engi. I think a lot of people just aren’t aware of what you’re supposed to be doing/what you can do on engi, so they leave you alone.

Similarly, I’ve not experienced this “warrior is more preferred in pve” thing. In dungeons, nobody gives a crap. And if they do, I’m pretty sure almost everyone in your party has a warrior alt they can bring themselves if it bothers them so much.
For fractals, a few people have told me “lol engineer isn’t meta”, but there have been times I’ve looked at the lvl 50 fractal LFG and they are specifically asking for engineer. I’ve also not had anyone mention my class when I do a fractal.

So, if you want to challenge yourself, I would play engineer. Almost everyone has a warrior and they are fairly simple, but a well-played engi can be very impressive. You also have to factor in how much fun they are for you.

The achievement you are talking about is a infinite repeatable achievement. You don’t need to do it to get the meta and the title.

To get all 15AP from this repeatable achievement you would have to do the puzzle 75 times. (3AP per 15 completions) That is way way excessive. This is one of the few achievements I say “It just isn’t worth it”.

Yeah, I figured that out after the fact. THEN of course I noticed it was repeatable, and did a huge facepalm. Would have gave up far sooner if I had noticed.

Well I was stupid anyway, I thought you HAD to do this to get the meta achieve. I’m happy you don’t and wish I’d notice the “infinite” below the title.

Last year, this kicked my butt over and over and over… it was like a week of trying on and off before I made it.
This year… made it on maybe my 6th attempt.

You’ll get the hang of it… just keep at it

What gets me is people insisting I must be “bad” or “lol learn the patterns”, when really my struggles are the result of a bug.

I’m seriously considering changing my keybinds jut to get this achieve. I use a gaming mouse and I had to rename the keys, plus it’s kind of new so I’m not too used to it.

The songs are kind of annoying to play, but at least it’s better than the buggy jumping puzzle.

Meh, another engineer main here. I don’t really mind the forced backpacks, but I would certainly welcome not having them and I can see why others dislike them.

Is this game dumbing down?

It’s being dumbed down a bit, but I don’t think they’ll push it too far.

If it’s any consolation, this game was hard as hell after coming from 3 years of wow.

As I pointed out to someone else, I’m not one of those people who wants harder content. I’m new.

Second, did you read the thread at all? A few people have confirmed there is a bug which, yes, is both random and unfair.

For the record, now I have the achieve and I’m never doing that horrible, stupid puzzle again. But I have it in spite of the bug, not because I have 1337 skill.

I just did it again. More and more often I can successfully make it past the stupid presents, only to have my health tick off so fast that it’s impossible to complete the puzzle. I’m doing everything right… The snowman didn’t blast me with ice, so idk what happened.

Super annoying.

Lol, then I got to the very end and made it to the first blue present on the final stretch. Nope, big boulder was close enough to completely knock me off.

15 times. So unreasonable. >:[

What you are describing is a bug which i have encountered. It usually occurs after presents while going down that candy cane ramp to the snow balls. For some reason you take maybe 80% of your hp from two different attacks (so about 40% each hit) If this happens it’s impossible to complete the puzzle. Basically Anet made the puzzle super bugy and even more annoying than last year.

Thanks, I knew something was up. My original complaint was the puzzle felt so hard and unfair and had to be done 15 times. Now I know it feels that way because it’s so buggy. They really should have nerfed the number of completions. My husband refuses to try for it at all after watching me fail over stupid bugs I can’t control. I even watched some person float in the air after the presents fell. They really need to fix this puzzle.
