honestly I have no idea how GW2 is going to recover from thieves the way they were released. Any newbie with a green arrow is just fresh meat whether in a group or not. Not exactly beginner friendly. Who knows how many people soured on the game after getting griefed for the fifth time in a row after giving WvW a try.
DAOC nerfed the living crap out of archers for an entire year (made them free kills for rogues) soon after release. They were not nearly as IMBA as thieves are right now in WvW. At least when the archer two-shot someone he had a long restealth timer and no speed at all (scout).
This build is probably the most effective one we have. I mainly run with a conditions/shatter build because I am better with it (little tankier more forgiving). I wish we had an inspiration/shatter build that worked half as well as this.
Honestly these types of builds are the only thing that keeps the thieves away or at least makes them think twice before engaging.
I have been running with Yaks the last week and a bit. I took a vacation to get away from the mindless CD zerg. This week I was curious to see what Ebay looked like from the other side. Ebay is actually very impressive.. small numbers of good guild groups working together. I already have a bone to pick with some ShadowMoon thieves
Mag is the same as always.. buncha stubborn cusses that don’t know when to quit.
to the OP: I see this stuff all the time. One P/D conditions type of thief griefing a group. Best to just ignore them zerg up and move on. They are playing the game in god-mode.
The worst of it is this is the type of IMBA class that attracts the min/maxers that know the mechanics of the game inside-out. Really playing WvW as something other than a thief /DD ele is sub-optimal right now.
balancing patch is coming on the 14th so tough it out until then.
edit – LOL I just saw that the OP is an ele. Did you know that the DD bunker ele is the most OP WvW class in the game right now and the only thing that thieves fear? Do some research on the ele forums and respec

Agree with the above post. Thieves are making a joke of WvW right now. Most OP class I have ever seen in any game
It is strange just how well this build works. Doesn’t have much burst but great survivability and good sustained DPS. I have tryed all the popular builds and have a bank full of differant gear. Dwayna runes and melee range regen fron defender along with omnomberries seem to be key.
Don’t be afraid to try different things the next meta mesmer build is waiting to be discovered
I have been messing around with Inspiration since they fixed pet regen. So far I have had encouraging results but with a small dataset.
Basically I go 0 20 20 25 5 and spec sword, focus and staff. Fighting involves the standard mirror images/ blurred frenzy /mindwrack followed by switching to staff and standing on the warden pet and casting defender. I have the Orr precision/vit/healing gear with cleric weaps/jewellry. This seems to work well against PD thieves which I always had a problem with. edit→ also omnomberries are a must (hope they don’t nerf this)
Seems to work well and is very tanky. I am worried that GS warriors and DD eles will eat me though. Anyone have any luck running an inspiration build in WvW?

I stopped using GS before any of the nerfs because I had a feeling it was coming.
I sometimes kill thieves with a scepter and a torch just to rub it in.

the tooltip goes from 3→5 seconds on the Mages confusion skill with 70% condition duration. Admittedly I didn’t get a stopwatch out to confirm if it actually worked.
AoN sould go to Yak’s Bend. They have less population than anyone in T4 somehow.
This would be awesome. Mage is still weak though. He should do a cover condition on confusion. Retaliation is not a good fit for a cond build (melee range). Be better if he did aegis
FYI Mage uses cond duration on confusion. I usually have it up to 5 seconds with food and traits
block on off-hand sword, distortion, mirror images, sword clone/swap/blurred frenzy, mindwrack, sword pet, switch to staff, phase retreat and iwarlock (dodge as required)
As soon as I hear the dagger sound if I didn’t see the thief I hit my o-kitten button (mapped to block)

Well I transferred out of Ebay to Yak to get away from the CD zerg only to run into TC. If anything the situation is worse for Yak ATM. I am seeing some interesting psychology experiments playing out in T3 and T4 with two clearly dominant teams running the board. The other two teams won’t band together but spend most of the time trying to avoid retribution for any upstart actions. It is every man for himself.
If the developers were hoping for alliances I don’t think it is going to happen.
sick of CD and getting run over 10-1. Even numbers they run or die everytime.
has anyone tried to get 100% condition duration to see if they can get two burning ticks on WoC? I have 70% cond dur right now (food + 30% from dom). I could probably go 20% on armor runes and 10% burning on weapon. Before I lay out the cash though has anyone tried this?
If CD has been playing alts all week that would explain a lot (karma trains and lowby zergs getting mowed down). Honestly CD shouldn’t be in this tier but they are doing their best to tank the match
nah full zerk mesmers are lying on the ground after steal(mug)→CnD→BS (see above). Can’t even press a button.
When I run cond/toughness with 20k hp and 1800 toughness I can use my stun breakers and do something. That is full bunker FYI

lol whatever thief dudes. I just had to respec back to bunker before I rage-quit. Yes I was running a full glass/shatter spec to try some stuff out. It didn’t work out (see above). The only ones that can run glass are thieves currently. I was all L80 exotics/zerker gear.
FYI a tactical strike thief got me just after the last screen but I didn’t have the energy at that point to get a screen.
FYI those logs are real.. didn’t see that the Thief was from a diff server.. probably because he didn’t render….
honestly they have nerfed the crap out of the thief and I find them very easy now. Please consider rolling back the thief nerfs.
The problem I have always had with a full glass/shatter build is splash damage from seige and thief adds. Lately the only roamers I am seeing are thieves and D/D elementalists. P/D cond thieves eat a glass shatter mes for lunch. For DD eles you need boon removal to have a chance.
Lately I have been running a 20 0 20 0 30 toughness/cond shatter mes (yep no crit and no clone on dodge) 1800 power 1500 tough 1500 cond damage with cond duration food. My first shatter is N2 and after burst I get ~12 stacks of confusion at ~375 damage and 25 stacks of vuln and strip boons (bye bye Might)
It works well more of a defensive shatter build. The rest of the time it plays like a straight cond mes.
Edit: forgot to say that this build with a trident is the most OP class in the game

It has been a good fight this week. Much respect to Mag for their well built gank groups (AoN) and CD for superior organization and teamwork (and numbers).
so reading this thread it sounds like thieves are a little underpowered in WvW and could use some buffs
The heart seeker spammers are back! Got hit for two 6k HS this morning on my Mesmer with 1400 toughness. Ridiculous OP class in WvW worse even than DAOC archers at release. Gotta love a thief griefing an entire group and getting away over and over
it is good but they have to fix large events/WvW rendering ASAP

Yeah that was my post in Thieves forum that started this. Yes when I am playing my 20 20 0 0 30 IP shatter build with all crit/power gear I can kill a thief if I can stun him out of stealth. How many thieves are you going to catch this way? Only the bad ones. The good ones only come out of stealth after they have stomped you.
Lately I have been seeing the new breed of D/D cond thieves out there. No mesmer build has a chance against this. No class of any kind has enough cond removal for this (not even a healing mantra mesmer with null field).
Not sure about this. I tried it out with about 1300 healing (1500 toughness, 1400 vit). My regen ticks for about a tenth of the average WvW heartseeker hit. I don’t think healing (or defense) is very viable right now at all.
If mesmers need to be adjusted so be it. I usually go full crit/zerkers/shatter and I kill the odd bad thief. The good ones insta-gib me every single time. There are lots of other classes that don’t do as well.
WvWvW is turning into TvTvS(heep). That is the problem. I have a L50 thief and stopped playing it. It is so easy to kill folks even at L50. You could even theoretically macro the whole steal/CnD/BS combo and turn it into a one-button kill. I am sure no thieves have programmable mouse/keyboard? Playing this class screams IMBA. Mesmer doesn’t but whatever.
I remember one-shotting purple-con wizzies in DAOC with my scout and thieves in this game are no different. Prepare for the nerf bat.
I only play WvW on my mesmer. Thieves are getting out of hand. On my server we are seeing stealth teams assigned to various objectives. They are basically unkillable. The map chat is full of complaints about unseen killers. This is as bad as DAOC archers at release (and I had a scout).
I love it how the thieves think that it is all bads with issues. Unless you devote your entire spec to surviving thieves yur gonna die from a thief. If you do go full bunker congratz you made him run away. Now go try and kill something. I suppose we can all stand together in one spot with our bunker builds and cast AoE heals while thieves run off and play the game?
yeah this needs to be fixed. I throw iZerkers all the time when I seige and it is totally cheezy. I feel bad doing it but it gets done to me non-stop as well.

OP: that is a straight shatter build that you are fighting. He is hitting you with confusion on shatter/death so he is likely 10 30 0 0 30 or something.
Everything depends on him stunning you with pistol, getting his clones up and getting in 600 range for his swap/blurred frenzy.
Not sure what you can do.. stun removal and whirlwind to kill all the clones? I hate it when they do that.
Not sure if you have a stance that works against immobilize but that is what he is holding you with for blurred frenzy.
