if it is a d/p 30 SA thief who knows what he is doing then you are probably going to lose. These are the perma-stealth guys that you will see in WvW.
blocks are your friend either scepter or offhand sword (which hits glass thieves really hard)
all else being equal the thief has a huge advantage. it is not so much the stealth as it is the blinds. I don’t even bother with them anymore and I don’t play d/p on my thief either. It is totally imba
yeah that is not even remotely the same thing
FYI echo was an elite spell from GW1 where you would cast it and copy the next spell you cast.
Make it weaponskills only and pop up two phants, two chaos storms, chain two prestige……
Mesmers are weak sauce ATM
To the op: you gotta go GS. Focus is only good for attacking keeps and dropping ppl off cliffs in EOTM. Go 20 20 0 0 30 shatter and mix in some soldiers.
PU is basically the last viable build left for mesmers. Basically it is the last thing remaining from the Mesmer viability upgrade way back when. It is only viable in that PU makes it harder to kill a Mesmer. The black water types run with all defensive weaponsets and do terrible damage. The power types kitten their damage by going 30 in toughness line.
The only roamers left in WvW are d/p thieves and various mobility warrior builds. PU does poorly against these. I use PU to stealth back to the Zerg and swap out a torch for GS and become a mediocre ranged damage class. That is basically it for Mesmer. In every other facet of the game (pvp, pve, support, interrupts) it is done better by other classes.
It is not like the ppl still playing don’t have multiple L80 so it won’t be the end of the world. My warrior and thief are way better than my Mesmer in everything except 1200 distance ranged fights.
PU mesmers slot alot of stealth and ppl hate stealth. I don’t blame them standing there or flailing about waiting for an unseen opponent to unload on them makes for bad gameplay.
There is nothing wrong with PU condi mesmers. I am pretty sure everyone complaining about them here has never played one. They do terrible damage with reasonable survivability. A dire condi bunker warrior/ thief has more survivability and twice the DPS.
Honesty a 20 20 0 0 30 zerker shatter GS/S/P build is more useful in a WVW group. If you want to solo roll a thief. They are so much better at it.
honestly this thread is lame. PU is not that good. Roll up a dire P/D thief and stack 25 bleeds and then come back. My condi thief and condi warrior is so much better than my PU Mesmer it is just silly
Shatter is second rate right now. My zerker GS Warrior auto attack for the same as a fully specced Mesmer zerker shatter. He can 100b for 20k with self-buffs and it is way easier to set up in laggy WvW aoe splash. 100b is a noob killer but then again so is shatter.
This game needs stun immunity.
There is, it’s called stability and blind.
Instructions were unclear
Ran into melee train and died.
Bought more Dire gear for my Ele
Much complain.
That is basically what this thread is to me right now…
It’s like nobody in Gw2 has ever played an RvR game before. doesn’t anyone remember DAOC Stungard (Midgard)?
I don’t really care I am the one with the hammer in this game and I had a healer in the other. Chain stuns should not be happening.
I ran with a BG hammer train with an asian guild doing a guild run on EOTM. Basically I just stuck close to the commander and leached with my zerker GS build. about 30 of us were steamrolling an entire map. aoe stuns, aoe cleanses, aoe heals and just roll through any size blob. This game needs stun immunity.
Well over half the folks you will be facing in WvW will be guardians and warriors like yourself. Conditions are pretty much useless against those classes and in any kind of larger group fight. Half the melee train is spamming condition removal.
My warrior can passively heal over five stacks of 1500 condi damage bleeds. Once I saw that I retired my Mesmer for good lol.
Especially in EOTM everyone carries condi removal because of the spike traps and one of the buffs is a passive 10 second condi removal.
Zerker or support builds seem to work better.
I’ve played a lot of games and played a lot of OP classes. Warriors aren’t on the list. Class balance is actually quite good in this game compared to many others. My DAOC scout could one-shot a wizard from max range in the game from stealth. Good times. That scout got knocked into unplayability with a nerf bat for a whole year.
The only broken mechanic is stealth in WvW which needs to be nerfed hard (and I also have a Mesmer and thief). The thief stealth mechanic is the most OP thing in the game IMO. I don’t know why MMOs keep including this mechanic and actually make it worse in GW2 case.
I remember Left-Axe in DAOC and people getting all worked up cause a stealther could occasionally solo two people. That got hit hard with the nerf bat. GW2 has a whole army of invisible roamers killing with impunity and they think it is normal ?
Warriors are fine. Nerf Melandru’s and condi duration food and all is good.
Confirmed last night. This one is a class breaker in WvW.
Warriors are a decent class though. Roll one up if you haven’t already. I am having fun with mine
<insert something witty here>So warriors don’t have the best damage? Shocker.
No seriously, welcome to warrior. You will love it. And that’s from somebody who started with mesmer also. Warrior feels more… easymode.
Fixed.
Trolling much?
Naw, he’s just sick of getting kicked on a bearbow.
Not really, HamBows aren’t a problem for my Lockdown Mesmer.
I just find it hilarious that someone is going from a Blackwater Mesmer (which is the cheesy easymode spec for Mesmers) to a HamBow Warrior (which is the cheesy easymode spec for GW2 in general).
Easymode much?
Each weapon’s damage is irrelevant. A strength of warrior is being able to swap weapons (Fast Hands) often to maximize damage output. Mesmer can get away with autoattacking more because the phantasms out are dealing damage. But autoattacking rather than swapping to your sword for a Final Thrust is just overtly hand-tying yourself.
I could also have shattered my clones, swapped to sword/blurred frenzy on the mes. It goes both ways.
Nothing against warriors it is just a lot closer than I thought. I have been playing warrior quite a bit hence the testing. I am thinking these anet devs might know what they are doing actually
Got him all geared out with zerkers armor/weaps/jewelry/ruby orbs with Mellandru’s and 0 0 30 10 30 spec (thank you warrior boards).
I’ve been running him in WvW and I definitely need practice but I can see the appeal. The movement is very different than my Mesmer.
What I wanted to share was the result of some informal testing I did in Orr against L80 mobs (Risen mobs). Basically I was running through Greatsword, hammer, and sword/axe/shield to see how fast it killed single mobs . I ran through about 10 iterations with each weapon starting off with bulls rush and running through the skills and using F1 each time. I wouldn’t switch and auto attack as required. Timing was on my iphone just as I hit the gap closer.
It turned out Greatsword was best at 10 seconds, followed by axe/shield at 11 sec followed by sword/shield at 13. I used all the skills in the right spots. Hammer was bad at 16 plus seconds.
I also did testing on rifle and LB. Both were around 16 seconds using the F1 skills.
All this is fine and dandy but there is a twist. I also tested out my Mesmer who has a “black water” toughness/condi stealth/clone death spec. This spec has a reputation for doing weak damage especially with staff. So I tested staff the same way as the zerkers weaps. I would drop 2 clones a phantasm/ chaos storm and auto attack. Using these rules mobs died to Mesmer staff in an averaged of 12 seconds.
Yup that is right between axe and sword and not too far off from Greatsword. Just dropping three clones and auto attack would take 15 seconds. This was better than rifle using F1 skills.
I thought these results were interesting and thought you might appreciate the irony.
Not sure why ppl complain about PU mesmers. I can’t kill them and they can’t kill me. What is the problem?
My warrior is now 50+ so I really don’t care. I hope they don’t nerf warriors. That being said leveling him up has been a lolfest. Every skill unlock is Monty Hall with how good things are compared to other classes.
As an example do you know the hoops I have to jump through to get 10 stacks of bleeding and torment with my 80 mes?
Anyways keep on keeping on warriors unstoppable bowling balls of death
I’ve read all your replies. Mesmers are not nearly as strong as what they were. However after playing a few days I don’t think anyone is. I hardly ever die anymore and that is something new.
I am probably enjoying myself more now so I guess that was the point. I think this is the frog in the bucket syndrome. Everyone feels about 50% weaker. it just happened over a long time.
GS is fine it is not a noob spec but it is what we all were using when the game first came out and we were noobs.
And sorry glamour/confusion specs are trash now especially with the melee train and lack of projectiles.
FYI I am playing one of the power cat /PU builds with traited blink.
I have just been playing my Mesmer after a long break and noticed that she has pretty much been nerfed to dust. I left after the Shattered strength and PU buff. My mes was a PTV shatter that relied on all those might stacks and shared them.
I login and shatter is hardly playable, my glamour/confusion builds are all gone, confusion is gone, healing is still mantras (yuck). All my old builds aren’t viable. It looks like PU builds are pretty much it.
I got hit by a full zerker shatter burst in WvW cause I am rusty and it just took me down to half. Sad.
I go out in WvW and it is a melee train. Warriors as far as the eye can see. I am guessing they didn’t get nerfed? They are as OP as ever.
Thieves seem to have got hit hard I haven’t been ganked once.
I guess the current meta is PU? I am running GS/Power like a noob from the first days of the game. It seems to be the only spec that can assist the melee train.
So you board warriors have been asleep at the wheel or what? How did the Mesmer get knocked down so low?
No confusion or retaliation damage either
Define “Over Powered” and I’m sure we can come to a consensus of whether or not a revamp of skills etc is required for thief class.
When one character class can force build/gear/trait changes in all the other character classes to even be competitive there is an imbalance.
Name a single class that can remain competitive against a thief without mass investment in defensive attributes/utility/gear?
When imbalances like this occur it begins to limit play styles and builds available for use in any competitive instance.
This is why certain set builds are becoming common place……When all the other character classes must run knight, cleric or some other toughness build to just survive an initial encounter with a thief what does that tell you?
That is how I define a class is OP.
Like I said if you have no problem dealing with thieves post your gear set trait build etc and we’ll see if there is a trend……..
My Mesmer is built specifically for thieves in WvW. Full toughness spec, vit and toughness on all armor and weapons, cleric jewelry. I play a condition shatter spec. I can usually make a thief run away
Go power/tough/vit. With tuning crystals and might stacks you can still get cond damage to 1600
Newb mesmers aren’t slotting Signet of Mesmer OP: AoE knockdown 8k crits 2 second cool down
Sword/torch/staff 10 0 30 0 30 and totally owning
get rid of portal and give mesmers a mobility buff
The mechanics of charging mantras is terrible. Basically you are turning yourself into a healing turret
95% of the people on this thread have no reading comprehension.
THIS IS A BUG
There is a bug with shatters that will cause big broken damage if you go in a certain order. People in the know are being hush-hush because they don’t want this widely known. Somebody posted what is going on a few times in this thread however.
Devs know about this and it will be fixed.
I have zero sympathy for JP carebears. I hope you get griefed non-stop. Actually do something useful on the WvW map if you want my sympathy
And I want to trait for an aoe pull on the whip
I want a whip with a pull for shatters. Either that or put a pull on scepter 2
Thiefs in WvW are easy to play and extremely strong. There are counters but the skill level to counter on other classes is much higher. Most of the time the counters are limited to specific builds and weaponsets. For instance on my mesmer I need to play a shatter build with offhand pistol or thiefs will gank me all day long.
This whole dynamic is very unfriendly to new players who get destroyed and some never come back
I have been having good results with this build in WvW:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQNAW8alwzaqXUTsGb9IhpH9G5AH1jrn9vTqAsB
I have been running full power/tough/vit gear and weapons, fire runes for might duration, might sigils on weapon swap, carrion jewelry. Typically I will have 12-15 stacks of might for most of the fight. 1000 cond damage pre-might, 1600 with might stacks up, 2000 power pre-might.
Veggie pizza, tuning crystals (tough → cond damage) are a must. First burst puts 10 stacks of confusion on the other guy and 12 stacks of might on me. It has been working well against just about everyone EXCEPT GC/GS burst mesmers (lol). For them I just stealth away.
This might be the most survivable mesmer build I have played with. Problems are condition removal and this build has no speed.

I have been playing with this for a bit and don’t think it is OP. People freak out over the might stacks (why?) but in practice all it does is level out our burst dps. Our weapon skills are weak by design and if you just shattered your dps goes down the toilet
This doesn’t help your normal shatter spec as much kittenter conditions build and opens up a boon sharing build. This actually opens up a lot of new build possibilities based around less GC more survival and lengthening the fight
You only see two types of roamers: lost sheep and min-maxed OP burst build wolves. I don’t blame the sheep for running.
Honestly how much of a fight is that uplevelled ranger going to put up anyways?
FYI if you play a shatter mes if you put veil in front of the mob/player and leap through it you get chaos armor and the first tick of the stealth buff. Very cool
that would work. I would drop Phant Haste and pick up IP
Best confusion burst is a is a CoF / MW shatter with 3 clones + IP
Glamor confusion builds work well in standoffs + seige. 30 points in Dom opens a lot of possibilities.
Most people are not going to like this without Deceptive evasion but it is not required IMO
Carrion gear + condition duration food would help get confusion to 5 sec on this build.
Another thing: this build kinda sux for seiging BUT you can change things around and do a confusion/blind/glamour build (and use GS) on the fly if needed.
I theory-crafted a confounding suggestions build to deal with all the DD eles and P/D thieves in WvW. I have actually been having great results locking these guys down long enough for there life-expectancy to go down substantially.
Since then the build actually got a buff in the last patch so it is super-easy to get 25 stacks of vuln on the target. According to my rough calculations that is like 25 stacks of might on direct damage (1% per stack.. math isn’t my strong suit). Also you get all the might stacks from the latest patch too.
Here is the build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fgEQNAW8alwzaqnRTkGa9IxpCJH1jrn9vT6BsZ9pB
plays like a shatter build but you throw all your dazes at him as well. Your burst rotation includes three dazes (50% stuns) and a pistol stun. I run this with full power/vit/tough gear and carrion jewelry and condition damage/duration food and it still has enough oomph to put a thief on his butt.
The problem is if they get away with shadow return but actually they rarely come back for a second try.
Anyone else playing a lockdown mesmer?
Which game sent information about 100 other players to all other players ten years ago?
Dark Age of Camelot, to name only one … make it 200-300 players in the early zerg days
To be fair a lot of those early relic runs were slideshows. A lot of fun though.
this really helps a condition shatter build. All those might stacks don’t help the shatter they boost the confusion damage.
My L66 thief is pretty balanced. Problem is she has 14 levels to go.
“So a class with high mobility (and there are several others, like thief and GS warrior) leads a zerg of complete idiots in a circle and this is game breaking?”
I can kind of see this. The distribution of idiocy doesn’t seem entirely random however. It appears that anyone not playing a thief or a DD ele is an idiot
last match we were playing FA and a DD ele was getting his friend to announce in zone chat (Yak) which camps he would be hitting. Sure enough he would show up, run a zerg around the map, down a couple of lowbies and generally cause a ruckus.
While he was no doubt a master of his class I can’t think of any other game that lets people get away with this kind of stuff.
I know what Caen is saying. I see these gank groups (DD eles, frenzy/signet GS warriors, P/D and BS thieves with 25 stacks of bloodlust) running around ganking newbs and not accomplishing much. God forbid you guys ever drop a ram or anything.
Yeah you figured out the OP meta builds… good for you?
they fixed regen on phantasms (ie. phants give regen within a small radius) in the last patch. So the mesmer inspiration / healing builds should work better now
Trick is to kill all the clones. DD bunker spec don’t seem to have an issue with that.
he is not the hero you want but the hero you deserve
