See? There’s an idea. Make that kitten harp actually good for something. I personally think it’d be rather hilarious for it to make the minstrel noises from when the mesmer was first announced for this game, like when you fire your scepter or mace or whatever at somebody. Maybe turn your projectiles into musical notes?

What about ideas for a legendary in general, though? Suggestions for straight-outta-your-head legendary weapons. I’m sure there’s some people out there who can come up with some better ideas then what we currently have accessible.

No offense to the developers or anything who came up with the legendaries, though.

Alright. We’ve all seen some legendaries by now. Obviously the most common are twilight and dawn. Why?

Well, there’s two reasons.

1) There’s a sheer majority of heavy armor class players that utilize the greatsword
2) They’re two of the best looking legendaries in game. The visual trail, the footsteps, the animations, they look great.

Then you have things like the Quip. Or the minstrel, or the predator. Now, these are legendary, but in terms of looks? They’re pretty subpar. They don’t have the cool footstep effects, or the trail, and they just don’t scream legendary like the greatswords or bolt or the juggernaut do. Hell, meteorlogicus doesn’t do anything, outside of being animated. It’s probably why you hardly see any of them around.

So, post your ideas about legendary weapon improvement here. My idea? Well, the moot already exists, but I think that changing the quip from firing little bubbles into firing either bottle rockets or, more hilariously, disco balls, would be a real improvement. And you gotta add those footstep effects to all legendaries, not just some.

Hell, maybe let people who acquire an underwater one still have the foostep effects. Kamohoali’i kotaki could leave some bloody footprints along. Kraitkin could leave a trail of snakes in your wake.

I mean, there’s a lot of missed opportunities for having some really cool weapons here, and the work involved when acquiring some of these doesn’t really equate getting a weapon that’s barely noticeable.

Did Arenanet talk about Engineers at all?

There’s a large number of bugs for the engineeer that have yet to be addressed in any way, shape, or form. Meanwhile Jon Peters is over at the warrior forum telling people to “rest assured” about their bugs since he and the other lead on class balance, Issiah Cartwright, both main warriors.

Thus the problem with engineer and essentially any other class is the fact that there is a sheer favoritism from the developers about one specific class, thus leading the others to get nerfed, then ignored, while few classes are able to put together specific builds before just finally switching to a warrior since it out-damages, out-survives, and, outside of guardian, out-supports every other profession in the game.

Then we have the other issue with engineer: His total damage appears to be split. Look at his pistol or his rifle, then each of his kits. There’s a split on what can do condition damage, and what can do raw damage. As Cosine described, the engineer is a good example of a “Jack of all trades, master of none” profession, except that in this case, he’s a “jack of no trades, master of none” that result from his broken, bugged trait lines, the sheer randomness of some of his abilities, and his incredibly weak kits and weapons that have been nerfed into sheer nothingness since beta weekend two.

It’s kind of sad, really, when a profession was better off in beta then it was in the actual launch of the game. Anyways, I wouldn’t expect any sort of developer post in the profession forums. Except with the obvious exception of the warrior sub forum.

Engineers can operate with specific builds, but the fact that they are out preformed by any other profession in the game right now makes any build the engineers have not matter to begin with.

The engineer, I think, is like a sexuality confused teenager. It doesn’t know what it wants to do, so it ends up trying to do everything at once and fails horribly at it.
What I mean by this is that if one were to look at each of the engineers weapons, you would find that there is a sheer split on the variants of damage it can do; the engineer is split between condition damage and raw damage, but due to how the profession is made it can’t focus on either without sacrificing something else in return, thus making the engineer weaker as a whole. Even the kits are like this, in that you can’t focus on one form of damage without crippling the other.

I believe the only option for the engineer is a complete rework in it’s traits and abilities. The traits being a big part of it, as many are seemingly random. Some of the engineers abilities are literally random as well, the elixirs being a prime example of this. Applying random conditions or boons is something that further contributes to the engineer being as weak as it is, and the constant amount of nerfs to the class (while the pet class of arenanet, the warrior, has only recieved buffs since the launch of the game) just makes the engineer even more pathetic.

Again, a complete rework of the profession is needed to make it viable in both PvP and PvE. When a profession has a singular build that it relies on not because it’s the best build, but because it’s the ONLY build, then there is a definite problem with that profession and the way it’s been balanced.

That fact that your mentor character of your order dies to save a handful of soldiers that don’t make it the boat most of the time to begin with along with the fact that trahearne has the ability to summon five flesh golems at once makes it so your mentor character’s sacrifice was unimportant and useless. Trahearne should’ve been the one to stay behind. Trahearne could’ve summoned multiple flesh golems to hold back the undead. But he didn’t, and we are left with a worthless character with no military experience that replaces great characters like seiren and tybalt.

Trahearne then goes on to steal the glory of every single thing your character is responsible for while simultaneously being incredibly useless in combat. Let’s not forget that many NPC’s die during other personal story quests, with those deaths being blamed on you, not the poor choices that “marshal” trahearne has made. These character deaths make it impossible to have any sympathy for the characters dying, too, as after the death of your mentor character(s) at claw island, the deaths of the other npcs become expected and shallow and are just being used to attempt to pull an emotional response from the player, which it fails horribly at.

Essentially, trahearne is a mary sue of the highest caliber; he steals the credit of YOUR accomplishments, is revered as perfect and incredible by many NPC’s (even with characters of essentially unknown races, like the largos that somehow OWES TRAHEARNE for something), and despite having no military or combat experience against the denizens of orr is placed in charge of an organization and a base that he took the credit of naming and forming.

Let’s not forget the fact that with the dream, any slyvari could have access to trahearnes knowledge if trahearne were to die. Nothing of value could’ve been lost from trahearne dying at fort trinity, except of course the token mary sue character that arenanet has created to rip your own personal storyline from you.

Difference between big/personalized gifts?

I’ve gotten a orichalcum recipe from a large wintersday gift, or whatever the highest rank one is. According to devs it’s also possible to get the skin recipes that you can purchase for sweaters and whatnot as well, but the chances are most likely very low.

True..but did you notice all of the other stuff that he has? Most of the gift boxes contain a random chance for one of those things. Worst case, you open a bunch and have enough to purchase one outright.

That would be impossible, because he would already have enough for any of the items that are offered before exchanging his sweaters for a box that only gives one sweater.

I believe that the boxes offered from the exchange vendor should differ in that they give four to twelve sweaters instead of just the one. That way the person who purchases a box will at least get some of what he spent back, or possibly more, but keeping the randomness to the amount given in this case would be a good thing, as to prevent people from turning ten sweaters into twelve.

And considering how the black lion chest, the halloween chest, and the wintersday chest work I’d have to say that his chances of getting a weapon skin from a box would be rather low to the point where it’d be best to simply save up the sweaters/hats/socks instead of spending them on yet another RNG chest.

The different difficulties for puzzles is an excellent idea, provided that they don’t create an achievement for each. Just the one singular achievement to keep people from complaining.

The difficulty level thing could be applied to the current puzzle by making the degen differ on each level, so they wouldn’t have to rework each holiday puzzle, either.

But I’d have to agree, in comparison to pretty much every other jumping puzzle in the game, this one is much too easy. I would’ve added more of those wind snowmen alongside the snowflake platforms if I wanted to make it difficult.

Most avoid this dungeon due to the level of coordination and skill needed to do the paths properly. Subject alpha, the dungeon’s main boss, will cause constant wipes against unprepared teams due to his massive aoe attack that he spams regularly. There are also other things, such as the security room filled with the mini detonating golems, which can be confusing to new players or an uncoordinated team. The dungeon is also fairly long in comparison to other dungeons. It’s best to run this one with trusted guildmates.

If it is any consolation I am on scale 22 and have accrued over1600 fractal tokens and not yet gotten a ring either. It is RNG with the Jade Maw.

We are exploring alternatives to the current system.

None Whatsoever. Which is why it will never ever be implemented because good ideas are to ANet what water is to the Wicked Witch of the West.

I’d have to say that it’s not good ideas that they are lacking, rather it’s the attempt to utilize those ideas. They’ve had good intentions with this game, but it hasn’t exactly gone the way it should’ve due to a variety of reasons. Unfortunately with every patch it appears that those reasons are growing.

My game crashes automatically as soon as I hit the “launch” button. The only solution I have found is to delete the local .dat file every time I wish to play, which can be tedious and shouldn’t be necessary. Every time I forget to delete the dat and launch the game I will be treated to a black screen, with a corrupted “guildwars 2” at the top, with what appears to be the text merged. The only option for me is to hard reset my computer as the crash completely prevents me from doing anything else. I’ve attached a gameadvisor report and would greatly appreciate help as this isn’t the first time this has happened. I have already tried reinstalling my game, which was the thing that fixed this issue before, but now I can’t do anything.

2 Precursors from the chest? Really?

Arenanet stated that they will be making precursors easier to acquire. Not only was this expected, but it was also necessary. There were very few precursors on the market which was contributing to their ridiculous prices, and the chances of getting one from the mystic forge were so incredibly low that something like this had to be done. If anything, I would expect more events like this one (Which took over two hours, on average) will be created to help players obtain their precursor of choice. If anything, I wouldnt’ be complaining about others getting precursors from the chest simply because more of them on the market will mean that they will cost less to buy in general. I didn’t get very good drops from that chest, but I can say I’m satisfied considering it dropped my precursor of choice, carcharias, down low enough for me to purchase, instead of having it remain at it’s 50 gold price.

I would have to say that the only good part of that event was the chest itself because it dropped precursors. That and a lovely 20 slot bag and a nice ring.

Alright. So I’ve been browsing various forum websites, including this forum, and have come to a singular conclusion:

People hate gambling

And what was recently added in the cash shop? Yet another gamble, a consortium chest, that while having a much better drop rate for rare items then the black lion chests still use this gambling element to acquire them.

Now, I don’t think that people want to gamble for these skins, or tonics, or whatever. People just want them. So why not let them just straight up buy them from the trading post? Wouldn’t sales be larger given that people who want these items would be definitely buying them, one way or another, instead of having to decide between spending real money, or in-game gold on what could be just a few mining picks or salvage kits?

Well, I think so. But adding all these neat skins and whatnot would still be lacking, no? See, another thing I’ve learned while lurking around is that there are a metric ton of people who enjoy playing female characters and wearing…rather revealing armor. I’ve also noticed something else; there is a severe shortage of town clothing.

Oh wait, idea. Lightbulb. Why not make some revealing town clothing, and then put it up on the cash shop? Or just cool clothing in general? Armor skins, too. Because I know that people love dem g-strings and cleavage. And cool looking armor. Hell, one of the things I see a lot of is people wanting the flames on the CoF armor to be dyable. Why not have something in the gem shop that does that? Not the actual armor, mind you, but something that allows it to be further dyed. Hell, make it for all armor. Something that adds a slider to any piece of armor that lets you change the hue, color, and value.

Point is, people hate gambling, but people love kittenty clothing and cool armor and customization. Stop adding gambling chests, start adding sexy chests. Or hell, keep them both, and just make the skins an option to just buy outright. Just add more skins. Add more town clothes, but don’t make them exclusive, 1-in-a-million drops from a chest that you have to pay money for.

I know some elementalists that would pay some real monnies for that elite sunspear armor from the original, I tell you what.

Again, see Vengeance bug. Or are you implying waiting 30-40 seconds for respawn (two respawn timers) is just a ‘very minimal bug’?

Pretty much HALF of our avaliable weapons is useless in PvP.

In comparison to the other professions? Yeah, it is rather minimal, since vengeance is overpowered in it’s own right considering the massive amount of damage a warrior can do in a short amount of time.

Half your weapons aren’t useless in PvP, it’s just that the greatsword is so incredibly powerful that it’s pointless to use anything else.

Again, it’s a minimal bug and one of the few bugs that warriors actually have. All the warrior has received since launch are an endless amount of buffs and are the most versatile class in the game, and will likely remain that way for a long time considering the road that this game is going down.

Then again, it’s not like anyone playing warrior has a reason to worry; the vengeance bug will most definitely be patched and warriors will receive yet another round of buffs while other, more bugged classes get ignored as the game drives itself further into the ground.

So, warriors? Quit. Your. kittening.

Dear god.
This is the most overpowered class in the game and yet there are still plenty of you complaining.
I don’t understand it. I can’t understand it. Other classes are unusable and you all feel as if you’re worthless in PvP. You’re complaining about very minimal bugs in comparison to the fact that rangers have two weapons that don’t even work correctly, and necros had one of their trait lines completely unusable. Engineers , too, are no longer useable at all in PvP, as they took away their only viable build.

All of you who play warriors are getting the royalty treatment. Learn to play better instead of complaining about how you get hurt by classes that are far worse off then your own.

Be glad that Issiah and Jon Peters play warriors, because they’re the only class that’s ever going to receive any good treatment.

I understand people are angry/disappointed/annoyed, but why are so many of you being so melodramatic?

I don’t like the idea of gear grind or forcing us to have certain gear to experience certain content but threatening to quit or demanding a refund based on a blog post is really over the top.

Is it really? They’re going against what makes Guild Wars Guild Wars. They’re taking all of the promises, all of the amazing things that were meant to separate this game from conventional MMO’s and burning it to the ground. There are many of us who have been waiting for this game since 2007, following every update, magazine article and blog, and to say that this game hasn’t been an utter disappointment is an under exaggeration. It’s like what Peter Moleneux promised for the original fable.

Arenanet employees, read this thread. All of it. Realize that you have messed up, royally. There’s still time to change this. A gear treadmill goes against the very foundation of guild wars and goes against the numerous promises made about this game.
It will do more harm then good upon releasing this update. Focus on bug fixes. Dungeons and professions are a broken mess, warriors dominate nearly every aspect of the game, and people are leaving because of this. Adding in a gear treadmill and enemies and a dungeon that you need specific armor to combat instead of developing a proper dungeon that takes player ingenuity and skill is the wrong decision to make.
I, and numerous others were excited for this update, up until this very blog post which is absolute evidence that you have gone into the deep end. You might as well have just told us that your promises about the game were bogus straight off.

What I’m wondering is, why is Izzy STILL BALANCING.

he was a joke, an absolute, no-holds-barred kittening joke in the community at how bad his “balances” actually were. And now, he gets to play favorites. Now, he gets to completely and utterly ruin gameplay for everyone BUT those who chose warrior.

Sword/Pistol support thief here, I’m furious. Allowing Izzy to do anything with this game is utterly ridiculous, and what’s more ridiculous is that they’re focusing on nerfs before they’ve even fixed major gameplay bugs. I can’t shut down the game client then launch it later without rebooting, and I went a week without being able to play before I eventually had to reinstall the game, and there’s hundreds of other issues that need to be addressed.

I would at least think that clipping wouldn’t have been as much of an issue, if not more of an issue in this game considering how rampant it was in the original, but I guess that doesn’t matter either.

I guess now I’ll have to go dagger/dagger to do any sort of reasonable damage to anything and have the survivability of a kitten rabbit instead of being able to do ample damage while still providing support for myself and anyone in my party.

Can we get another dev post here to see if they’re any closer to fixing this? I can’t even play the game, still. I go to hit “play” and I just get a corrupted window and a useless-until-I-hard-reboot computer. This update really just kittened everything up and I’m getting a little bit kitten now since I’ve tried every pseudo-solution, submitted a ticket, even messed around with a bunch of different router settings, it’s unreal that I can’t play a game I dropped 120$ on.

At least I can stare at my Rytlock figure? The way things are being handled I’m starting to think the same as Cailais. Anet’s already got our money, who cares now?

No, seriously though Anet, this system that punishes good players is absolutely ridiculous. The DR system isn’t something that should be meant for dungeons.

I made my own thread for this, no replies as nobody has a fix for this and Anet has yet to make a response to this problem that’s plaguing many of us after the 25th’s update. This is downright unacceptable.

Updating this. So I was finally able to play today, for about thirty minutes or so lag free before a heavy lag set in and my character was essentially frozen. Anyways, i went to launch the game again just now and I get the blue screen of death, but with some information that may help solve this problem.

Can’t get an answer anywhere with the black screen crash. I hit play, game crashes, black screen, have to hard reboot my computer. I haven’t played in three or four days now.

I just wanted to play, and I can’t even do that. I’ve tried everything that I know of except the “-repair” thing since for some reason it won’t let me set that as a target.

Why exactly would ANYONE think it’s acceptable to have a diminishing returns system in a dungeon of all things? It seems to me that Anet plans to artificially lengthen the time played in this game instead of simply allowing players to run the dungeons as they please to acquire armor. it’s only cosmetic, so there’s no reason that people shouldn’t be able to run the dungeons multiple times without having to suffer some sort of consequence.
While farming other areas itself is a different issue I still think that the diminishing returns system is going to do more harm then good, and I haven’t even been able to play this last update to experience the changes.

Black Screen Crashing

This is unacceptable. I go to launch the game, that’s fine, but as soon as I hit “play” the game instantly goes to a blackscreen with a blue window bar at the top with a corrupted “guild wars 2” in the top left hand corner. I can’t play the game or do anything with it. Before this issue only occurred If I launched the game, closed it after playing, then tried to go back to it later, but now I can’t even play at all.

My graphics card is a Nvidia geforce gt 430, which should be able to run the game on lower settings. Does anyone else have this problem, or have a fix for it?

I’d take a screenshot of the issue, but the black screen error just completely crashes my computer and I have to hard reboot, every single time.

I haven’t been able to play in three days now or so. This is absolutely ridiculous. I can login, but as soon as I hit that button it goes straight to black screen, with a blue window and a corrupted “Guild Wars 2” flashing in the top left corner. I don’t even get music anymore, and I have to hard reboot my computer because it shuts everything else down. I am extremely frustrated with this and other issues the game has shipped with.
I waited six years for this?
