They see me trollin…
They hatin’….
Power double dipping isn’t a flaw… it’s a design choice.
The point of GW is FAST PACED PvP. By inhibiting healing and making toughness a remedial stat you put a timer on any given encounter. It gives value to choices made in combat.

Prepare to be schooled
Where is this damage immunity in stealth trait. I’m clearly missing it because I still take damage in stealth. The authors Thief apparently does not. I would like to know this trick.
Apparently my last post didn’t “contribute” but all the posts in this thread have…
I find that hilarious beyond reason.
Apparently blade storm is bugged so add that to the list of stuff that needs fixing. Doing 30k+ damage to 10 people bunched in a tight space is too OP.
If you get instagibbed once… fine. Lesson learned. If you get gibbed twice? That’s your fault.
I’ve been backstabbed to death before. But you know what I do? I REMEMBER WHO DID IT. So when I see him coming at me again I pop a dodge. Easy. Done. He stealths, you dodge TOWARDS him.
If you die, you die. I’ve yet to have a match where I said to myself,
“You know what… if that thief didn’t Instagibb me that one time we could have won that match instead of losing 500 to 200. I could have totally brought us all together.”
That… has never happened.
Not once.
I hope they nerf Thieves. I truly do. 1.) I don’t backstab so it will effect me exactly zero… and 2.) I will continue to play a Thief so when the next round of FOTM nerfs come a knockin’ (cough cough Mesmers Warriors and Guardians cough cough) I’m going to revel in your tears as you try to “defend” your class on the forums.
Same song and dance. Same whiners. Different game.
If you add anything, it will only get worse.
Period.
Allow me to highlight the chain of events that take place E V E R Y T I M E this line of reasoning is followed in PvP.
Step 1: A lock out timer or reward penalty debuff takes place.
Step 2: Players just hangout @ the spawn.
Step 3: An AFK timer is instituted @ the spawn.
Step 4: Players ignore objectives and instead help the opposing team win often bragging about it in chat.
Step 5: A report function is instituted to detour this type of play.
Step 6: Players continue to do step 4 but stop vocalizing it so it can’t be proven. They could just be “bad”.
Step 7: Devs can’t do anything further, whiners think they won but in fact just wasted about 6 months of PvP updates to accomplish nothing and actually made the situation worse.
This is how it is. No matter how hard you wish or how loud you whine this is an inevitability which has been proven time and time again for over a decade.
(edited by rickshaw.5279)
If you’re landing 7 HS’s… you’re playing against bads.
That’s a serious lern2play issue. I’ve never been hit more than twice since I learned to, you know, dodge… In fact it’s quite amusing to watch an HS spammer scream around a point like a ritalin deprived toddler and land a whopping two, maybe three, hits.
And yes, HS can be slammed extensively if you spec Acro Trickery but you’re paying for it with less dmg.
In the history of MMO’s, no exceptions, not one game that has implemented a “punishment” for quitting has yielded positive results.
Not…
One.
Why? Because then instead of leaving, you got players going out of their way to LOSE the match to get to the next match. Autobalancing is awesome. If you volunteer you get a bonus and ON TOP OF THAT you are guaranteed the winner bonus.
If you want group play, that’s what tourneys are for.
I don’t see the problem here. GW2 has, far and away, the best initial PvP setup any MMO has launched with to date. I seriously don’t understand whiners when it comes to this topic. Seriously… what more do you ****ing want?
Advocating putting CD’s on Thief weaponsets is about as intelligent as saying,
“I don’t understand why I can’t put this cheaper 3 speed transmission from the 50’s in my 2012 Hybrid. They should make it so I can do that. Never mind that you would, quite literally, have to RE-ENGINEER THE ENTIRE VEHICLE… they should do it because I’m a community college drop out that knows better than an entire team of engineers who have been doing this their entire lives.”
THAT’S how ridiculous you sound.
If you add CD’s to thieves you have to redesign the entire class and its relation to everyone else. You can’t arbitrarily say, “do this and it fixes everything” without looking like a doofus to anyone with an IQ greater than that of a tree stump.
With the abundance of condition removal I agree w/ the author. Conditions do need some boost. Maybe not the ability to crit but even when fully specd for conditions the damage is lackluster. The only time it’s worthwhile is if you’re pitted against a team of noobs that don’t carry condition removal.
The fact that power doesn’t affect con dmg is what puts it behind. Maybe some form of innate con dmg would help? You net a base power but no base con. That immediately puts it behind. Or perhaps upping the sasr unmodded dmg?
Right now Burns are the only real worthwhile conditions because they hit hard for short spans making them less likely to get washed. As opposed to bleeds which are much more readily neutered.
Peechez must be bad.
Taugrim plays a hammer warrior and owns. And unlike you he posts videos and streams his gameplay. I’ll take my own eye over your simplistic and narrow view any day.
Tata.
I love how people “claim” they want strategic gameplay yet keep bashing the only element in Guild Wars which promotes strategic gameplay:
Downed state.
When a team comes back from a wipe due to clever Down State management… you got outclassed. Then you come to the forums and whine. Especially since the only thing keeping GW from being a DPS race is downed state. It’s fine.
I don’t say this often but when I do I mean it:
Learn2Play
I actually tried the thief at first and really didn’t care for it much. Granted the burst is nice but after they blow their initial rotation, they feel really squishy.
You better edit that before you’re tarred, feathered and labeled a fanboi.
Admitting to anything less than Thieves have infinite health, armor, damage and can solo GM’s by the dozens will net you no friends here.
They nerfed Heartseeker. People still complain.
If they nerf Backstab, people will still complain but then they’ll continue to complain louder about Death Blossom. Once Death Blossom is nerfed people will continue to complain about Thieves downed state. Once that is nerfed people will complain that Stealth is far too long. Once that is nerfed…
People will whine that Thieves are under powered and criticize ANet for their design choices.
Warrior will receive several buffs over this time period.
Nerf hammers.
No one should be able to kill you without being able to respond in kind.
Sincerely,
- Thieves
I beat the OP in 12 matches and bested his score by over 400 points in one match.
This is fact because I say so. You should listen to me from now on because my experience makes me better than the person reading this post. Send me a PM for my infinite wisdom and please sign up for my newsletter.
No class, whatever spec, should be able to hit just about anyone with 10k+ in 1 hit. It’s just absurd.
I agree.
Please nerf Warriors, Guardians, Elementalists, Engineers, Rangers, Mesmers and Necromancers.
As a Thief with 19k HP and 2100+ Toughness, these classes burst me down WAY too fast. I’m talking about less than 3 seconds time. What they trade off for the ability to kill me in such a quick fashion is irrelevant.
The only viable builds that should be allowed in PvP are Bunker builds.
Please make this happen. Thank you.
@Machina
You bring up a valid point.
ANet, I would like you to fix this problem as well. Everyone keeps complaining about stealth and how overpowered it is. I do believe my thief is bugged. My thief can only stealth for 3 seconds, 4 if traited, and has a 3 second debuff preventing me from restealthing immediately. I also continue to take damage whilst stealthed. I believe this is also an oversite.
I’m clearly missing the “OP stealth” ability. I would like a CSR to address this and add it to my hotbar at their earliest convenience.
So? the ability says: block attacks and it does. Oh ma gawd, instead of not attacking the guardian and waiting it it out, lets drop our killer damage on it and waste it, then run to the forums and ask for Guardian nerfs just because we are bad.
No thanks, not my style brah.
I do believe this post is the literal definition of “ignorance”.
@rickshaw.5279
Not when the numbers feel right to many people, and are actually pretty representative of the kind of complaints that keep showing up.
Feelings are irrelevant.
I “feel” that Guardians and Warriors are OP beyond reason. That doesn’t make it so. Facts are relevant.
Basing your opinion on an anonymous poster who cited anecdotal data (which he is the only one privy to) is, again, an exercise in gullibility.
I’ve been seeing this more and more.
Warriors just running up to you rooting/knocking you down then proceeding to obliterate you before you have a chance to respond. I’ve seen it with 2h’ers and axe warriors. This is unacceptable.
Also there’s some special ability in the game. I’m not sure what it is. The players leap forward and roll in the ground. All my attacks say “evaded” preventing me from damaging them. I’ll spam heartseeker over and over until I run out of initiative and nothing. Or I’ll try to steal backstab and they do this preventing me from damaging them.
I think it’s a hack. I’m not sure. I see eles, thieves and engineers doing it the most. So I don’t think this hack works on guardians or warriors. It’s game breaking and ruining PvP. Please fix it.
Sincerely,
- Thieves
I can make up numbers too.
Unless it comes from an official source, population is pure supposition. Citing a posters private census is a demonstration of gullibility.
you had me till you threw in Elementalist. no one cries about them needing a nerf
edit and try again please
That’s because people are too busy crying about thieves. When thieves get nerfed and people start to see what double dagger eles are capable of… oh boy.
Get chain CCd for 17 seconds by ONE DUDE and see how fast they whine.
NERF Backstab & Steal
NERF Heartseeker
NERF Death Blossom
NERF Endurance Return
NERF Swiftness
NERF Thief Signets across the board
NERF Basilisk… again
NERF Shortbow
NERF Thieves Guild
NERF Pistol Whip… more
NERF Thief downed state
In fact the only thing I haven’t seen people cry about is S/D #3.
Forums are just as hilarious as they are tragic.
Get a DB acro trickery specd thief on your team.
I single whip double guard bunkers often enough. There simply isn’t enough condition removal to keep a thief like this @ bay. I’ve yet to meet a bunker build I can’t put down.
1v1… done deal. 2v1… hit or miss.
Maybe I’m just that good? Possible. Unlikely… but possible. Me thinks people just aren’t breaking away from their comfort zones enough to find what works for them.
Asum’s post should be on the front page of the GW2 website.
This has never happened to me but that’s because I know how to… you know… dodge. Same goes for HS spam.
FunFact: HS spammers don’t know how to control themselves.
That’s why they’ll hit you 2 times with HS spam after you’re down. They’re auto queing. One dodge negates 2 HS’s. That’s a lot of wasted Init. Learn to dodge and cut those spammers already pathetic DPS in half. I was up against 3 spammers yesterday and swapped to D/D. As a trickery/acro build I made it my job to turn them into wasted space. Which was pretty easy since they must have been buddies or something because they kept together.
500-114
I man handled the **** out of them.
This is why MMO’s should just stop having stealth classes. They are always absurdly overpowered for pvp (invisibility + huge spike damage) while generally not having much in the way of pve utility.
Yes, that 3-4 second window of being invisible yet still taking damage is SOOOOO overpowered. I can see how so many people have trouble with dodging or AoE’ing when they see a thief stealth.
Oh wait…
I forgot the good players that I’m pitted against do exactly that.
I simply don’t have enough time in the day to list every ability I’d love to see nerfed on every class outside of Thief.
Nerf Warrior Adrenaline gain
Nerf Warrior Bunker Builds
Nerf Mesmer Bunker Builds
Nerf Guardian Bunker Builds
Nerf Engineer Bunker Builds
Nerf Rangers some more because they’re not completely useless yet
Nerf Necro’s so they can’t have so many pets in PvP
Nerf Necro conditions
Nerf Mesmer heals
Nerf Guardian heals
Nerf Elemental Bunker Builds
Buff Thief healing
Once that’s done… feel free to nerf Backstab, Mug and Heartseeker.
Sincerely,
- Thieves
I was curious how exactly I get this NPC’s ini regen rate.

I’ve had skin since I was born.
Longbow AutoAttack speed is not even close to what is listed in game. It’s more like 1.25 seconds not .75.
More details can be found here:
To put this into perspective, that’s a 66% DPS nerf. I don’t care what game you play… if you told someone they were taking a 66% nerf to their DPS they would lost their f’ing mind.
After reading DesertRose’s post I decided to record a quick video.
The attack speed of the LB is indeed way the **** off. I posted about it in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/ranger/Longbow-Auto-Attack-speed-is-WAAAY-off
I recorded this quick clip to demonstrate. No time dilation was used. Forgive the quality, I just wanted to throw up a quick and dirty clip. The video is exactly 20.07 seconds long but for whatever reason YouTube rounds up in their time count. Feel free to record a video of your own to double check it’s accuracy.
16 attacks in a 20 second time frame is 1.25 attacks. As noted in the video’s description, even if you add in a 17th attack just to account for “error” that’s still only 1.18 attacks/second. At the listed attack speed in game you should be getting exactly 26.7 attacks in a 20 second time frame.
That’s WAAAAAAY beyond the realm of “a small error.”
Me thinks that ANet was addressing the wrong “graphical error” with their last patch.
(edited by rickshaw.5279)
Auto attack fires every 3/4 of a second or .75 seconds. Rapid fire channels for 5 seconds. In a 5 second span of time Auto attack will fire off 6 1/2 times. In a 5 second span of time Rapid fire hits 10 times. With that information mind:
Rapid Fire dmg @ lvl 80 base stats: 1,320 or 132/hit
Auto Attack dmg @ lvl 80 base stats 0-500 range: 176
Auto Attack dmg @ lvl 80 base stats 500-1000 range: 229
Auto Attack dmg @ lvl 80 base stats 100+ range: 317
Auto Attack DPS @ max range for 5s: 317* 6.5 = 2,060
Auto Attack DPS @ mid range for 5s: 229*6.5 = 1,488
Auto Attack DPS @ close range for 5s: 176*6.5 = 1,144
These numbers are going off of base stats @ level 80 (completely naked) using a PvP Longbow.
Let’s add in a 50% crit rate (and base crit dmg) Rapid Fire will eek in 1,650 DPS while Auto Attack will bring in 1,430, 1,860, 2,575 from mid to long range respectively. It’s fair to note that Rapid fire will have a greater chance to proc though given nearly 2x the number of attacks.
Long story short:
Use Rapid Fire when close range only or if you’re trying for a clutch proc.
(edited by rickshaw.5279)
I will play around with heal procs and see how that works out. Not sure about Ungent though. Me keeping with Spring and my buddy with Breeze is working very well. Not sure I’d want to mess with that.
1.) Evade on auto
2.) Block/Kick
3.) Interrupt
4.) GARGANTUAN gap closer (or retreat).
5.) AoE so I don’t have to worry about LoS’ing myself
6.) It’s manly.
The point is to be ON the point. Not around it. Not looking at it. ON it. I’m currently playing with a guardian and we work well together. I’m exploring options as currently I use LB as a secondary strictly for the KB but I’m trying to get a handle on sword. Using traps primarily and Hyena F2 has been clutch on so many occasions. If nothing else it creates more noise especially for tabbers.
I’m very much enjoying this role; just exploring other possibilities that players have experience with.
Things to note:
- I don’t care if Ranger sucks.* Take your butthurt somewhere else. There are, literally, pages upon pages in this forum filled with threads that are more than happy to lap up your tears. Go cry there.
In HERE I would like intelligent discourse regarding ideas on how to build this type of character.
- I don’t care if GS and Sword sucks.* GS and Sword+OH is preferred. I’m well aware of GS and Swords short comings. They are well documented.
The objective is to work out a build(s) that has staying power on point or the ability to keep multiple foes tied up in transit to points. I was looking at trap builds which initially piqued my interest on the topic. Spirits just seemed too squishy for this type of role given the copious amounts of aoe in PvP.
Any advice or subject related resources you can point me to would be most appreciated.
Pet attack speed reduced by 40 ms due to a graphical error that can occur 0.0078% of the time.
Wow… what the **** was that? Serves me right for posting from a phone.
Since launch, the only bug fix I have seen so far that actually helps rangers was making entangle affected by the 20% cooldown reduction, so thank you for that. Despite the bugs, the ranger was still a fun, playable class.
My question is that out of all the 68+ bugs on the Ranger Bug List, why mess with one of only decent DPS options to change a completely unknown “graphical glitch” that doesn’t affect playability?
Why not just change the animation if that was truly the only problem? Instead of fixing one of the numerous serious bugs on that list, you guys “fixed” something that wasnt even broken.
If time is going into fixing bugs, why not the ones that the community actually recognizes as a serious problem? Has anyone ever posted about this “animation glitch” and about how we needed a major game mechanic altered in order for the game to be better?
You claim that it was to prevent “1” spamming, but what about us who didnt spam “1” and just let the auto attack run? Why does auto attack and QZ suffer so much?
It just seems like a huge change for Rangers, with absolutely no input from the community on this issue. It seems like it came out of nowhere, and I have never once noticed this being a problem, or “broken,” during the last month of getting my ranger to 80.
Why reduce damage by a claimed “7%” just to fix an animation glitch? It seems like such a poor explanation for such a huge change.
Also, the devs claim that bugs take alot of time and testing to fix. Was this bug fix ever tested extensively? Were the numbers ever checked?
Was this changed because Rangers were actually considered OP?
I am just confused as to why we as a community get such a small say and limited explanation for big changes like this?
This post sums everything up nicely.

You know what he means. I’ve been a ranger for less than a week and -I- know what he means.
Don’t be a ****.
I 100% agree with the mentality that SB was the best of the worst.
With that said however, the pet issue is going to be a problem for quite some time. The same delayed AI that pets suffer from is the same thing you see in PvE. It’s every melee mob in the game. I can circle strafe champions with my GS for hours and never take a hit.
So it’s a double edged sword.
The question is, is this an artificially injected delay or is this a problem they can’t correct? If it’s artificial, they can correct it. If it’s not… we might be waiting awhile.
People who say their pets are working fine… I’d love to know your trick. I can’t get my pet to hit anything in PvP unless the target is rooted, afk or a complete noobcake.
Please give me your wisdom.
Resolute Healer works for me, so dunno what the OP is talking about. Playing a female norn if that makes a difference.
Summoned Shield Weapon however does not work… at all. The graphic pops but it doesn’t push anyone nor block anything. Completely non-functional.
Sigil of Earth most certainly does not stack at all. I’ve tested by itself as well as with 2 piece bonus of Earth and Monk. Duration does not change either in tooltip or buff icon. This should be EASILY noticible with the ability “Save yourself!” where with Water and Monk the duration clearly increases to 14 seconds and with Earth equipped it should increase to no less than 15 1/2 seconds… which it is not. Either in tooltip or buff icon.
OP needs to be updated. A lot of bugs I’m seeing listed there aren’t appearing in game at all.
Is it known that the Sigil of Earth’s protection duration bonus doesn’t work? If not… it doesn’t work. So now you know.
There are a few things rangers need to understand. I mean… REALLY understand.
1.) Warriors have nigh zero utility. My Rifle/Bow Warrior can absolutely roll face if he’s left alone. Keyword… IF. Crit build, full signets, adrenaline junky… I drop AoEs and Sniper shots as soon as they’re off cooldown. It’s a sight to behold. However if anyone takes interest in me I’m boned.
I can’t escape, I have no utilities, one KB and Root is what stands between me and getting face planted. If I’m ignored I can do some damage. If I’m not I’m basically a free kill.
2.) Traps can completely change the outcome of a fight. Especially large scale ones. That gargantuan point blank KB rangers have is pivotal. Your pets are a godsend vs. Mesmers. You have the longest range in the game. Your DPS is no where near as bad—as some of you claim. Full crit specd Sniper shot lands for 6k on a golem. Same gear with comparable spec on a ranger with #2 is 5k and you get s post ton of utility options in tow.
Rangers can completely change the tide of a battle but the problem is you’re too busy trying to be a warrior instead of a Ranger. FYI, I deleted my Warrior last night and immediately made a Ranger and am loving the switch. So much so that I stayed up until 3 am 2 nights in a row PvPing.
If you think Ranged warrior is so great, go roll one and see for yourself.
