I can out live almost anyone I play with and deal more damage.

That’s because your DPS sucks so bad you’re not pulling aggro. Your ranged DPS can’t even out damage a ranged Rogue let alone a ranged Warrior.

You might be able to out DPS n Engi. Especially a pistol/pistol engi. I’m guessing that’s who you’re grouping with so much to be out DPS’ing and surviving your party all the time.

It’s the only explanation. Because mathematically, your class is ****-ed.

PvE Rifle Warrior Build Final Tweaks

I use double axes and longbow for trash.

I use rifle+longbow for bosses.

What DPS I might be lacking in comparison to melee I more than make up for by not…. you know… dropping like a rock every 10 seconds like every other melee DPS I see running around. And when I pull aggro—not if, when—I have the luxury of keeping distance while maintaining DPS. In a perfect world melee DPS can rock it out without ever worrying about getting splashed into down state.

But this ain’t a perfect world. So while you’re sitting on your * waiting for someone to stop what THEY’RE doing to pick YOU up I’m trucking along non-stop. So, you can keep your magical 7k DPS for the 10 seconds you’re up before you take resources away from the group to keep you up.

I’ll stick with my piddly 3k+ DPS that never stops and doesn’t need to be maintained by pulling others off their duties thus dropping group DPS/HPS as a whole.

But, that’s just me.

You don’t cite accuracy you cite sensationalism which in turn feeds all the sheep and then we get a stampede of stupidity rampaging through. People pulling Screenshots from months ago being used as evidence of how thieves can backstab for 24k+. Others citing equally stupid damage but, “Oh sorry I don’t have screenshots.”

This stuff right here needs to be called out EVERY time we see it or it will NEVER end.

The other thing I think needs to be looked into are the 1115 pistol/dagger thieves that save all of their initiative for cloak and dagger and just autoattack people to death over time. It’s cheese. It’s not skillful. It is far too effective. And, trust me, it will remain that way even after rendering is fixed.

First, look at the weaponset before opening your mouth. Find me something… anything…. to use as an init dump that doesn’t put me out of the fight and I’ll gladly start using it. You say “cheese” I say put your money where your mouth is. All P/D has for staple damage is CnD, Sneak Attack & auto.

Mug is fine. On an 80 in exotics or PvP gear it maxes out at around 4k crit. These 5-6k numbers are from WvW, and gone are the days of getting a 9k Mug crit with 150% dmg from ASig.[cut]

5860 dmg done yesterday in sPvP on a ranger… can’t provide screenshot, sorry.

I bet you had 4k+ armor too, amirite?

Ima thief with 2.1k armor and have never seen a mug break 5k since the nerf.

I was unaware ANet based their design decisions on forum concensus.

The current problem is the ability to spam high damage abilities with hardly any risk involved…

I say the same thing every time I get shatter nuked, condition bombed, CC trolled to death or bent over by any number of ways from a warrior.

Online games like this actually have code to prevent people like you from cutting the net connection to avoid dieing…. My experience of GW2 suggests is around 30 seconds…

Your “experience” is fictional.

If you spent even 30 seconds testing this in game you could have saved yourself the time it took you to post this. GW2 has no such measure implemented. You can drop aggro instantly in PvE and PvP? You’re kidding yourself if you actually believe this.

You drop instantly back to the mists. No “standing around like a robot” for 30 seconds. I n s t a n t l y.

Next time you’re gonna post passive aggressively… at least make sure you’re right.

You will never see a rifle warrior be successful in tpvp or spvp…

My rifle/bow, signet stacking, crit/power spec’d warrior disagrees with you.

What you MEAN to say is “bads can’t play ranged warriors hence you don’t see them as often as ROFLbunkers who afk on points”.

My warrior drops flurry every six seconds, has ridiculous crit %, HP, armor and hits like a fargin howitzer. I’ve been advocating ranged warriors for awhile now. In fact I just got done having this discussion only a few days ago in my last thread with Plague and a couple other warriors out there.

Warrior is an amazing class with some of the most amazing synergy to be found in all the class trait lines. 9 times out of 10 when you see a warrior whining it’s a lrn2play issue.

Yes, bunkers suck. That’s a global issue. When bunkers are addressed you’ll see a whole nother meta come into play. It’s not an issue of “warriors suck” as it is an issue of bunkers are way the **** over the top.

Also nerf the CD on portal.

You can have a guardian pet out 100% of the time. I won’t go into detail on how you do it but yes, you can have a perma pet as a guardian without specing a single point into the spirit weapon line. This has been an issue for I dunno how long.

Using DD 4 times in a row is not burst. Backstab is burst.
Neither of you thought to dodge/heal/Mist Form/ whatever?
What did you do, stand there for the entire fight and let the Thief cast DD 4 times?

To be fair, letting “the Thief cast DD 4 times” isn’t the issue. It can be done instantly.

Yeah there are ways around taking the damage and minimizing it, but if it catches you off guard as a low HP pool build—you’re most likely going to go down.

So let me get this straight…

The issue is if you’re low health and not paying attention you shouldn’t die to Dancing Dagger?

The only time you’re getting backstabbed for 12k+ is if you’re a glass cannon under geared noob running around in WvW.

In sPvP with double force, full crit, full power and a set of scholar you’re not coming even remotely close to 12k backstabs on even the mini golems. This backstab whining is getting old. The lesson to learn here is level up, get exotics, don’t run glass or STAY OUT OF WvW.

My highest record so far has been on a Mesmer’s phantasm named Milty.

Crit him for 13.2k with backstab.

Fixed that for you.

I’ve run a 30/30 BS full berserk with scholar, double force, full signets and I have never come even remotely close to that number post power nerf on anything other than a necro or mesmer pet in sPvP; not to mention any of the golems.

I refuse to believe there are players out there running around naked in sPvP. And unlike “some people” who claim to be thieves I’ve been posting as a thief since day 1.

Thieves bad @ PvE? I almost wet myself I laughed so hard. Acro + Shadow + Skill = me practically soloing every boss in the game.

And apparently bwillb has never equipped a shortbow during the entire span of his toon short life. 5 mobs? That’s your skill limit? I pull mobs by the dozens. That’s plural BTW.

Step 1.) Get a shortbow and learn how to use it.

Step 2.) Equip signet of malice.

Step 3.) Go slaughter stuff by the dozens.

Quickness wouldn’t be a problem if all three downsides were combined and applied on every form of it.

That is to say, no healing, no endurance, AND +50% received damage. DONE. It is now balanced. Nobody will ever use it because it’s pure suicide – as it should be considering how ridiculously borked +100% DPS is.

I agree with this sentiment.

The problem is the inconsistency in which quickness debuffage slathered amongst the classes. If you made it so that every form of quickness fell in line with all of the debuffs associated with it in it’s various forms across the platform then I would have zero issue with it.

Sword has solid CC as well as leap. In conjunction with hammer it’s phenomenal. Horn? Group wide CC removal as well as group wide vigor? Someone clearly doesn’t skirmish much.

I gave up bothering with hotjoin defense. There’s, quite literally, no reason to bother with it. I used to defend. I used to sneak past enemy lines to steal their home point. I used to waste time breaking down the gate going for the Lord.

Now, all I do is wait for someone else to down the gate, then I nuke the lord, spam AoE to tag everything in my path so I get kill count when they eventually drop while focus firing only one guy after everyone’s tagged. KS bear or chief if I’m nearby when they pop. I’ll take a point but will promptly leave even if I know that in the long run defending that point will win us the game. Also I never bother destroying the treb unless someone else is already attacking it. Takes too long and takes you away from the farming grounds for too long. It’s simply not efficient to address it.

I also volunteer to team swap every time it asks.

It’s all about the honor points and you get none playing strategically. Best to just kill count, boss farm and point cap as much as you can as fast as you can.

If you’re sitting on a point… you’re doing it wrong. ANet has spoken.

Bunker Guardians, Mesmers and Ele’s are just over the top. Warriors want that, they’re not gonna get it. Why aren’t they gonna get it? Because mark my words that bunker crap is going to get addressed. In fact, the devs have stated that they’re looking into it. Once that’s taken care of bunker warriors will be more “viable”.

They’re perfectly viable as is. In fact there are videos posted in the Warrior forum which get drowned out by all the whining. Videos showing skilled warriors doing exemplary at both DPS and bunkering buuuuut acknowledging those threads, players and videos would mean that some warriors would, you know… have to learn to play. And we don’t want that now do we?

No, no. Much better to just whine and complain about traits that are identical to traits every other class has or moan that “our bunkers” aren’t as good as those bunkers over there that are actively being watched by the devs.

Yes, it’s much easier to do that.

By the way, next time you want to complain about Warrior traits, which are freaking AWESOME, please feel free to roll a Necro. Get that bad boy up to 80, play some sPvP, then feel free to come on back and lemme know how that worked out for ya.

Actually it takes quite a bit of skill to pug stomp as a premade.

That’s why they’re stomping you.

Because they’re skilled, practiced and communicative. I do concur though. Premades need their own que. I, personally, prefer to go premie vs. premie. Challenge is the name of the game for me. That’s just how I roll. There’s very little difference between roflstomping a pug and grinding mobs for an hour.

It’s not just 100b, Plague. My ranged warrior build is I-N-S-A-N-E. Completely over the top. Spec for crit, Adrenaline Regen, Weapon swap, slot strength on both Rifle & Bow, util signets across the board.

You’re looking at a RANGED wrecking ball with 28k health, nearly 3k armor, upwards of 70% crit and dumping adrenaline bursts every 6 seconds. And on top of all of that you have the single most synergistic ranged weapon sets (rifle/bow) in the entire game. EVERY slot is used and works well with one another and the damage is just phenomenal. My ranged warrior is probably my strongest performing PvP toon. If left to his own devices he just wrecks, completely wrecks entire groups.

Add to that, the fact that warriors have been almost unilaterally buffed every patch since launch whilst other mediocre professions (i.e. necros & rangers) are left to languish with an unforgiving sum of bugs; the vast majority of which have not been addressed let alone acknowledged. Warriors are in an extremely favorable position ATM.

To say that 100b is the only gripe players have with warriors is simply naive. People gripe about not being able to react to thieves. I can drop a player just as fast from 900+ away. Players, literally, don’t know what hit them.

While I don’t subscribe to the philosophy that Devs, in any game, play favorites; it’s hard to argue against that position given warrior’s current state and the previous 2 months of patch notes.

From what I understand from reading various threads and posts on here it is a number of things. I think it all comes down to whether or not people feel like they have a chance:

-Stealth drives many folks up the wall. High burst builds coupled with stealth is a lot of damage with a lot of defense. This is primarily a case with thieves and mesmers for obvious reasons. If a person manages to survive the burst and retaliate effectively, the thief or mesmer can often times just vanish and leave the battle altogether. People do not like that these two professions do not necessarily have to commit to a fight once they engage in one and fail to see driving the thief or mesmer off as a victory.

-Using cc in sequence for long duration control while you kill the opponent is undoubtedly something that is also frustrating to many players, but it isn’t burst in the same regard. People do not care about how many key strokes, per say, but by how long it takes. If they get jumped and do not have their cooldowns up, die in 2-3 seconds, then they feel powerless. If a cc queen does the same thing the player has more time to consider what is going on and a greater window of opportunity for their cooldowns to come up or other players to intervene. This window may not be effectively very large depending on the builds being used, but in many cases it is long enough to give people a greater feeling of control … even if it is only illusionary.

-Raw probability. Jump into hot join and there is a good chance you will see a surplus of thieves in regards to other professions. As far as I can tell, hot join is played over free/payed tournies from a strict number of users point of view. If more people play hot join, and hot join is made up significantly by thieves, then you should expect more complaints regarding thief abilities. I’ve played hot join games where there were no thieves to be found, but that is a rare case. It is true that you can come across games where any profession is dominating in population, but I am not talking about what is possible in hot join composition, only what is more common.

I’m not defending, advocating, or crying. This is just how I understand the sentiment you are referring to.

I play a P/D Acro 30, Shadow 10, Trickery 30 anti bunker build. I enjoy it. It’s fast paced, very annoying and high survivability based solely on how well I can predict my opponent. Although I will occasionally play other builds including D/D to keep a more well rounded experience.

I’ve seen countless… COUNTLESS… threads whining about thieves. Ranging from their burst (the most common complaint) to their downed state. No matter what the build, dollars to dimes, there’s a group of people out there ready to do a sit in at ANet’s HQ until it gets nerfed.

This is the part I don’t understand: Thieves aren’t the only ones who can do this stuff; so why all the hate?

Whether it’s a warrior stunning > 100b, a guardian CC’ing you to death, a mesmer shatter nuking, a D/D ele putting the kaibash on you ever having control of your character or an Engi KD>root trolling you into oblivion… it’s the same difference.

Last I checked thieves have the same number of ability slots as everyone else. And last time I played my warrior and guardian it took the same amount of key strokes to down my opponents. The only difference being my Guardian takes 7 seconds to kill someone as they’re forced to watch helplessly as I smash them to bits and my Axe/Axe warrior obliterates opponents so fast that sometimes I confuse even myself as to what’s going on.

I simply don’t understand the mindset.

My CC engi is just nuts. Completely nuts. Compared to my Anti Bunker thief I mentioned at the open of this thread, my CC engi is a beast. And I’m not even good with him. And don’t even get me started on my D/D ele. I called out how powerful D/D could be long before D/D ele started getting popular. You can check my posting history on that. It’s amazing more people haven’t caught onto this.

The point is I play a pretty eclectic list of classes and I simply don’t understand why only one class is being singled out here. The skill to kill ratio isn’t vast between these builds. If you TRULY believe it takes less skill as a thief in comparison to the aforementioned combos…

You misunderstand, o Thief lovers.

I’m not talking about locking out every other Thief skill except for the Auto-attack.

There’s a large difference between the Thief class and all the others: No CD’s. This gives you the freedom to spam your most powerful skills.

The revamp would only help to make you make smarter decisions.

You mean decisions like spamming Heartseeker, the single worst DPS option available to us which is incidentally the easiest to counter and dodge despite every bad player coming to the forums and whining about it and thus outing themselves as a bad… Vs. …
Dancing Dagger > Heartseeker > CnD > Backstab > CnD > Backstab?

Thieves are front loaded.

Deal with it and get better or keep crying on the forums.

One of these two choices will net a result. The other will not. The choice is up to you.

What if a Thief had to use some skills or auto attacks in order to build up initiative, instead of having a full bar from the start and it being regenerated over time?

So, lemme get this straight, every class in the game get’s multiple “kits” or weapon sets to swap around and plow through all of their CD’s at will… except thieves?

Am I reading this right?

A warrior still get’s the ability to pop his dash, root, 100 blades then swap to hammer and obliterate with CC all in less than 5 seconds but thieves have to back load before they can use any abilities? Ok. Gotcha.

Now I know why you’re not a game designer.

There was mention that guilds will be afforded the ability to create “private” PvP matches. This will allow players to basically create static environments to do exactly what you propose.

I dunno if you’ve heard or not but hammer warrior is useless. Every whiner on the forum will be more than willing to regail you with their 20 years of MMO experience and pro eSport experience in GW2. You were clearly hacking in your video since this would contradict the circle of sages which live on these forums.

This was extremely clear when you killed that Ambushing thief. No one can survive a thief Ambush. GM’s die to them. You must be hacking.

I would like to know where this “spammable” invisibility can be found.

I’ve been playing a thief since launch and have yet to find it on my hotbar or in my traits. Is there a magic orb somewhere I need to loot in order to get this mythic ability? I keep seeing posters whine about it, several of them in this very thread, but none of them have been able to direct me to this ability.

Whole bunch of preperation for PVE and new content, and all we need get is a paid tournament promise which was a flop along with a new feature, crash-a-lot.

Game (tPvP) is unplayable right now… Every game our team or the opponent gets 2+ crashes… You did not fix anything but made it worse… I am losing faith. Anet approaches sPvP as if it is a mini-game…

Never had this problem. Been PvP’ing since day 1. No one on my team has had this problem and, as far as I’m aware, no one has complained to anyone ON my team that this has happened. In fact, this is the first time I’ve read this complaint on the forums. So….

Stating that tPvP is “unplayable”… maybe for you and yours; Me and mine, we’re doing just fine.

As far as the PvE content update. It’s great. I’m sorry you feel that ANet is not catering to your individual needs or wants. However, I’m sure they will shut down the company in commemoration of your leaving GW2 out of anger. It will be a remorseful day filled with silent prayer and well wishes for you and your family.

Meanwhile elsewhere in Tyria…

If you’re implying that this was a “buff”… that’s debatable.

If you’re implying that this was a “fix”… it wasn’t. Since the tooltip was accurate and the ability functioned exactly as stated.

If you’re implying that it was a “nerf”… that’s debatable.

Bottom line: It wasn’t a “fix” since it was functioning as intended/designed. A “fix” is what Protector’s Strike went through. An ability not functioning as intended/designed.

I slot Caltrops, Shadow Trap & Reguge. I use primarily an anti bunker build. Shadow trap is invaluable for the exact reason the OP notes. I know, I know… a non back stabber thief that prioritizes winning the match and not kill count.

Warrior (Rifle), Ranger(LB) and Engineer(Rifle) all get piercing. Ranger gets bouncing(Axe). Not sure if any other class does besides thief. Maybe that’s the trade off?

We also get bleed application on ranged auto attack(Pistol). Don’t think any of the other class gets that except necro.

Well to be fair you didn’t state that this was sPvP only. I would edit that in your OP.

He shouldn’t have to.

Basic process of human intelligence would be association.

OBVIOUSLY stats are higher in WvW. I would hope by putting 1 and 1 together a human of at least lower than average intelligence would figure…“dah mumbers get biggah.” Specing for might stacks on Signets as well as might on poison application in conjunction with Signet of power will also yield… will also yield… almost there…
