anet: please move the reset back to friday evening (pacific standard time).
no capital letters were used in the creation of this post to avoid any perceived notions of demanding this change (even though the shouting in my brain is making hard to type this out)
I miss pre-HoT WvW so much.
This is definitely a step in the right direction. Who ever thought of this idea should get a promotion. It makes more sense and makes each kill actually count towards something now.
The WvW community thought of this, and has asked for it on several occasions for the past couple of years. We should all get promoted!
Well, I had pve fun when HoT launched… but NO fun in WvW my favorite game mode. I don’t like the new maps at all. I tried to like them. I also tried to advocate for others to give it time to like them. Just can’t, and don’t, like the new maps.
I puttered around in the new HoT content to grind masteries, but that got old really fast.
So, once F4 came out, I stopped playing GW2 because it was just ‘more fun’. I haven’t logged into GW2 except to download patches, and to post this rant today.
I miss the old WvW maps and guild mechanics… I have a small guild and can’t muster up enough resources to have the banners and buffs we used to have before HoT. It was fun and rewarding to toss down a banner or add +5 supply to a camp whenever we had the means to do so by easily earning the resources by playing the way we wanted.
The rewards and fun have been nerfed way too much for us to enjoy what used to be our favorite game mode.
I’m waiting out the not so fun game that GW2 has become until solid improvements are made to WvW, guild mechanics that support small guilds (like they used to) and the rewards throughout all game modes. Right now, GW2 just isn’t ‘fun’ enough to play. There are other games out, right now, that are are more deserving of my time. Time that deserves to be spent having fun, not wasted on grinding for blues, greens and a few silver.
Precursor drops are not account bound like the precursor you craft. You are free to use a precursor drop to craft a legendary, give it away or sell it on the TP.
I support Joji’s idea of ‘unboxed’ rewards, and elimination of salvaging altogether… and I even own both salvage-o-matics. I would gladly relinquish the need for salvage tools just to save the time it takes to unbox and salvage stuff, because I would rather spend that time actually playing the game.
Tossing in my support for shorter name tags, all of them… enemy, friendly, monster, etc.
No. Need more time to get familiar with the new desert BL map. I also think EoTM should use the new WvW BL map as a training exercise!
I wvw fairly frequently. Rank 2265, mostly roaming in groups of 2-5 or going around with groups of 15-20. I only ktrain when I’m incredibly bored.
I actually like the new map. It’s a welcome change, the only trouble is nobody wants to be there. There are plenty of opportunities to play with the environment to beat people while outnumbered. Worst part is that nobody is there to fight. My roaming buddy and I spent about 2 hours on the borderland last Saturday and Sunday, then again this Friday, each time during NA prime. The fights were actually fun. Terrifying fights on the ledges in the southeast. Only thing I could ask for is more people to play on the map, whether it be a zerg or roamers. It’s a great map for a smart zerg and even better for roaming.
Tl;dr: don’t write off the new map so quickly. Learn the map. Play the map. When there are more people on the map, it’s going to be more fun. As it is, it’s fun when people are playing.
This ^^
The new BL maps need time to become familiar with again, just like the old maps. Give it more time.
RNG has no place in the collections. We asked for a non-RNG alternative to acquiring the precursor because after 3 years of no drops for the majority of us players, we were a bit fed up with it.
Ah, great news about the masteries being account bound, thanks!
As for the RNG legendary defenders… RNG has absolutely nothing to do with skill and we asked for a non-RNG process to acquire precursors.
I really love this expansion. Gliding is my favorite activity as I’ve always enjoyed flying of any sort in any game just for the thrill of the view, and the challenge of landing in obscure places.
The new WvW desert borderlands maps are just spectacular! Thanks! WvW needed this refresher.
Most of the events are really fun, and some of the rewards are pretty decent too.
Thanks so much for all of the fun, and for tuning out some of the most annoying things players have noted since the expansion launch… like reducing the cost of HPs for masteries.
There are only a few things that need adjusting, for me personally:
1- Remove all RNG items from the precursor crafting collections.
2- Make it easier to level masteries on alt characters after grinding them out for the first character.
3- Remove the blue items and reduce the amount of green items awarded in the HoT maps. Really disappointed to see these items on new 80 level maps in the same types and quantities found on the old Tyria maps. Doesn’t feel fresh or rewarding at all to see these subpar items as rewards from the new maps.
All-in-all, a huge thank you to all of the artists and developers for making this beautiful and thrilling expansion. It has been worth every cent!
Agreed. My request would be to take out any, and all, RNG from the precursor collections. Remove all RNG, all of it. This would make the collections fun and epic. RNG never does. Never.
I will always, and very happy to, help with any HP shout out in map chat. Add me to your friends list and ping me when I’m in-game.
It doesn't make any sense. It just doesn't.

It came out as someone, like everybody else doing those type of post, talking through their hat.
It happen at each freaking time. It’s not only now. The same thing about the ascended in raids. But it’s not only for the expansion. It was the same thing with every freaking news anet did in the last 3 years. And it’s not about GW2, it’s the same freaking thing in every single game.
Step 1) People getting some news
Step 2) People speculation about it even if they have no information whatsoever
Step 3) People pushing the speculation to absurd level
Step 4) People getting angry about those over the top speculation
Step 5) Making thousands of thread about the same things
Step 6) People debating about something nobody know. One side defending something that may never happen, other pushing it to even more extreme.
Step 7) The update finally arrive
Step99% of the QQ disappear because after all it wasn’t so bad
Step 9) Another news appear, get back to step 1.
^^ This. Many times over. Speculation never ends well.
Usually the daily takes about seven minutes, about as long as the OP’s Commodore 64 takes to load.
Sir/Madam, you win the internetz! Thank you for the LOLZ
I’ve never understood what the attraction is for exclusivity in either content or rewards.
This is the best ranger gift evar! Please, please, please keep this mega-super-dooper-sized bristleback the way it is! Don’t change it! PLEASE!! I love it! Made my day, and week, and month and year! I’ve been grieving the loss of one of our cats to liver cancer and this just brought many happy tears. Please let us rangers have this one odd thing, Please!
Thanks Donari
I’ll check out the mini snow leopard.
There currently isn’t a silver tabby mini available in-game, and it would be really great to have one.
I recently lost a very dear little fuzzy family member to liver cancer. His name is Peanut and he was a stunningly beautiful soul, inside and out. He had boundless unconditional love for everyone he met, especially his soul buddy… me. It has been an unimaginable loss for his friends and family, and having a little silver tabby mini represented in-game would be a great honor for all of us who have been blessed to have one of these beautiful cats as a fuzzy family member.
Please consider adding this mini, and thanks so much for this wonderful game.
I too vote to have all of these tonics and recipes returned to the game! I miss them all.
I wholeheartedly agree we need more non-flappy chest and pants options for ALL races and genders. So tired of coats, skirts and flaps of any sort.
…
I heard you like buttflaps with your pants so we put buttflaps on top of your buttflaps so you can buttflap while you buttflap.
…
HAHA! Thanks so much for this. Couldn’t stop laughing! I’ve been dealing with some pretty heavy IRL stuff, and this just made my day… laughing into tears. Thank you.
“I need an audio slider to drown out the voices outside my head…”
There are usually more event maps than chest farming ones. Use the LFG.
^^ So much this! It really is that simple to find the perfect map for what you need/want to do in SW.
I buy keys now and then, and have been relatively ‘lucky’ with getting scraps and whole tickets from them. In fact, the scraps/ticket luck I’ve had has offset the ‘no precursor drop since headstart’ luck!
That said, it will be interesting to see how much the BL skin prices change after this latest ‘key’ nerf.
I too saw this change coming and also wondered why it didn’t happen sooner.
Although, I would have to question the effectiveness of this restriction on keys generated through F2P accounts. A F2P account can be deleted each time a key is farmed, thereby circumventing the weekly restriction. What this restriction will cause is an increase in F2P account generation and deletion. I can’t imagine what that database churn will look like!
The weapon skin/gold would be stuck on the free account, as they have no way to transfer them to another account. So doing that would be pointless.
Unless/until you acquire enough items of value to offset the cost of buying the game at which point you pay to unlock the full game and liquidate.
True on both points. I edited my earlier post after thinking about it a bit more.
Since F2P accounts can buy/sell items on the TP, can they sell their ‘lucky’ skins? Again, I think it would be pointless because of the gold restrictions.
So all in all, a good change for anet’s bottom line without a huge impact to the game world.
Free to play accounts cannot buy/sell any of the black lion skins nor precursor. They can only buy and sell from a very small list that contains a couple of gear from each tier. I might be wrong but think the Primordus set are the most expensive one they have access to.
Ah, OK – thanks for clearing that up!
I just hope the increased key drop rate is ‘noticeable’

Edit: But, since everything derived from a BL chest is account-bound, it serves no purpose to delete accounts to circumvent the restriction, unless you get lucky and earn a full BL ticket to purchase a skin costing only one full ticket.

Since anet has said they can’t fix and won’t fix this event because there is not enough time… and have apologized for it… I suggest they send every player who has participated in this event a ‘gift — of — acknowledgement’ that contains all of the skins and potions they were not able to earn because of the failed design of this event. They should also include gold, a few karma jugs and tomes of knowledge to make up for not rewarding these items during the event – to help the players, new and veteran, but especially the new ones, regain some progression for all of the time that was wasted during the event.
Anet needs to do more than just acknowledge this fiasco.

Here’s Pippin:
Ha Ha! Thanks for posting Pippin. Cute!
I have one final question, and please don’t take this as a passive-aggressive jab at the development team, but, was this an intern developer project? The reason I ask, is that it seems to be constructed without any experience as a GW2 player, or without incorporating any of the event design experience from the past 3 years, or any of the player feedback from any of the past event failures.
Just curious. Really.
Awwww…. our orange tabby Mel looked a lot like Pumpkin. So glad you had a furry friend nearby too! Sorry to hear about losing out on the halo. Hugs
I’m just fortunate that I had my cat Peanut nearby to hug afterwards. It helped alleviate some of the disappointment with this event. Thanks Peanut for being there!

Ideas for improvement:
- XP, Loot, Karma, Event Reward Tokens, and Gold dropping from individual enemies that are tied to the event.
- The Event vendor should not charge gold for rewards. When they do, it can’t be considered a reward. On top of that, with no gold dropping from the enemies in said event, the vendor is relegated to being a gold sink.
- The zones being used during an event should have dynamic events endemic to the zones cancelled during the special event so that they aren’t overlapping. It’s haphazard and makes the special events feel tacked on.
- Rewards should be plentiful. This is the first content you have given us in 8+ months. To have it be less rewarding than the content that has been in the game for 3 years doesn’t inspire desire to participate in the new events.
- The new AI for Heart of Thorns should be employed in the enemy design of the Mordrem spawning in the new event. You say we can’t have old events like SAB back because it doesn’t work with the new server tech and yet you fail to deploy the new tech in a new event? That’s a head scratcher at the very least.
- There should be new loot to go along with returning loot. There are vets that have all those rewards. To go without any new playable content in this game for 8+ months and then get what is supposed to be new content and have the rewards be old rewards doesn’t inspire desire to return.
- A boss encounter should have been included. New creature designs from HoT should have been included.
- Champion Bags from slaying Champions should have been included.
- A title could have been included.
- Achievement points could have been rewarded.
This post covers all of my issues with this event, from both a veteran’s and new player’s perspective.
My only message to anet for future events, please reward players appropriately for their time. This has been stated over and over and over in player feedback for all of the events that have happened these past 3 years.
I will no longer tolerate anything less. There are many games available that handle rewarding player’s time much better than was demonstrated with this event.
So happy these changes are coming… after so long waiting. I guess it is ‘baby steps’ on the path to perfection.
“a slap in the face” count number 3591…. and rising!
- When a ranger dies in sPvP and respawns, his pet will appear for ~1 second at the death location, and be fully able to be affected by skills and damage.
I have also witnessed this happening in WvW and PvE.
Totally. Been playing since headstart on HoD and love every minute of it, even when it gets a bit quirky for a week (looking at you golem madness).
seems like game manufacturers are in cahoots with mouse manufacturers…
I have an account that was never affected by the GWAMM bug, because I never created a new character while that was all happening, and I never earned enough points in GW1 beyond ‘traveler’ level.
After the 7/28 patch, for every new character I create, I get the email regarding the ‘GWAMM bug’ and 50 achievement points are subtracted because the ‘traveler’ achievement is disabled. None of my existing characters are affected. When I logout and login on any newly created character the ‘traveler’ achievement and its corresponding achievement points are restored.
While rangers might be the most problematic, don’t forget mesmer’s GS #5!
When playing my ranger, I keep my finger off the LB #4 key when in a group. It is not necessary to use it when zerging.
Thanks for posting these fun, commemorative vids of this event! Much LOLZ!
“All Is Vain Golem Train!”
But, seriously, I enjoyed the golem fun and extra fast rank progression from the ktrain. It was a nice break from the ‘seriousness’ of WvW.
Can’t wait to get back to that seriousness though… so yay for reset!!
Doesn’t this ‘bad precursor drop’ luck go away when HoT brings with it the ‘guaranteed’ method of obtaining a precursor for your account?
While I’m at it… 4014 hours, 1051 days… 0 precursors. I had to buy mine off the TP.
This is no different than babysitting bids for things you really want on eBay.
Broken skills are waiting for a bug fix. I agree that people shouldn’t be using them, but if it is part of their main combat mechanic… and the bug fix isn’t happening fast enough, what are they to do?
Dragonhunter bites the big one as far as relevancy.
Why not ‘Vanquisher’? Heck, at this point ‘Sheriff’ sounds better than Dragonhunter.
They should add a ‘beach, blanket, bingo’ box that functions like the aviator memory box, where anyone that clicks the box gets adorned in beach attire, and only the folks who click the box can see others who clicked the box in their beach attire. That way, the folks who don’t want to see swimsuits everywhere won’t get their panties in a twist.
I wish the aviators box could be changed to work this way too.
