Other games I’m playing don’t feel so restrictive, or nanny-like, in keeping you from playing how you want. I really enjoyed this game during the first 6 months. After that, the leveling systems evolved into a dire state of lock down. I don’t understand how they can cheerfully promote features that take away freedom of choice and enjoyment.

I now only check this thread and a few others hoping for any updates regarding long overdue revamps, reverts and fixes… rather than play.

Wow, a year. Unbelievable.

Has the ‘new stability buff handler system’ been fully vindicated? People have been asking if there is an increased processing load associated with this new system.

I ask again because the ping isn’t a true ping, but a ping with processing. As someone cleverly renamed it, the ‘ping pong’.

So, when you are standing in a group and the ‘ping pong’ is varying, could it be the stability buffs expiring/refreshing and changing the processing time and hence the ‘ping pong’ time?

I think I like these ideas to be available ‘simultaneously’:
1- Up to 5 different guilds can claim a keep.
2- Claims expire for a specific guild if that same guild claims another objective (like it is now)
3- Claims expire after a certain amount of time, like 60 minutes. I think 30 minutes requires too much babysitting upkeep.
4- Claims can only be made with a buff activated.

I sit here eating a delicious salad (no, not a Sylvari minion), reminiscing about the early days of the game and how fun and rewarding it was.

This was a time before the nerfing (drops, chests, farming) and the institution of the redesigned elements of the game we didn’t ask for: NPE, Dailies and Traits revamps.

I remember how truly fun it felt to start new alts, in every profession, and explore everything! Weapons, builds, the world and just feel so rewarded with loot.

That very first headstart day, the chest from the Shadow Behemoth event dropped so many shinies into my inventory that it nearly filled completely.

Black Lion Chest keys dropped by the ton! The chests themselves dropped one or more keys. It was thrilling to open chests of any kind, anywhere in the world.

I really miss those days, when the game just felt really great to play because it was truly fun and didn’t seem like a grind.

Playing the same content over and over, and getting the same lackluster drops ad nauseum, is a grind, and not fun.

Speculating, and asking for information, over and over, ad nauseum on the forums, is a grind, and not fun.

Games are supposed to be fun. This game used to be fun. The only thing that keeps my interest hanging by a thin thread these days, is that I really like my characters and WvW.

I’ve been taking a break, only logging in to retrieve the daily jingle box. That’s it. I gotta say, the games I’ve been playing outside of this one are actually fun.

I’ve missed that thrill of an actual great loot drop, whether it be gold or items. Playing other games has brought that feeling back, and it really feels good.

So good in fact, that when I do happen to think about playing beyond just logging into this game for the daily jingle box, that overwhelming ‘not fun’ feeling strikes and I just can’t do it anymore. The other games are just more fun right now, and Anet has the ‘we can’t talk about it’ communication policy, and the NPE, Traits 2 and Dailies 3 revamps to thank for that.

I literally wince whenever something in the game (looking at you, legendary crafting) requires me to run a dungeon.

So, I always look for LFG postings that specify ‘all welcome’ and then whisper the group to make sure they understand my ‘issues’ with dungeon running.

I’ve had pretty good success finding fun groups and managed to earn the tokens needed for 2 legendary weapons.

One run in particular involved Twilight Arbor’s aetherpath. I had never attempted that path, but the dungeon owner didn’t care because they were only interested in finishing up a few achievements for the meta to earn the watchnight mini.

This person was a real trooper, because he ended up with a rag tag group of pugs. Against all odds, we managed to help him earn the meta achievement. On top of that, I unlocked 13/17 towards that meta achievement as a first timer in that dungeon path because of that fantastic leader and our pug group. We spent 4 hours together! Had to repair armor numerous times because we were often nearly naked. But, we did it and had the best time and most fun ever. One of the members was operating on 31 hours without sleep, so we had to wait for them to wake up and could tell they had nodded off when they didn’t move with the group (which usually happened right after finishing up a strategy planning ‘session’ with the leader). This same leader also brought extra aetherkey pieces (enough to create 5 keys per person), food and oil buffs and popped banners. They really wanted that meta achievement, and was the most helpful, patient and understanding dungeon leader I’ve ever encountered, before or since. During the course of the run, we found out they and a friend formed the group, and were from Japan. So, they even had to work with language differences among the group members.

It was the most wonderful, awesome fun I’ve had outside of WvW, and just wanted to share this experience with you as an example of how great it really can be to ‘pug’ it when you have to…

Just play it the way you need to, and don’t let the ‘true baddies’ that rely on AP for skill tell you how to play.

The only thing I can see that this new thread has accomplished, is that the thread age has been ‘reset’. So we can no longer see/track that it has been ~10 months since this awful traits system has been live.

So, essentially, IF the ‘improvements’ happen sometime in, or around, Q2 2015, it will have been A YEAR that we have suffered with this foul trait system. Add to that the NPE and the dailies revamp (for the fourth time), it is no wonder there is so much angst and frustration sounding off in these forums. Why were the NPE and dailies revamp so important to be resourced with developer time ahead of fixing the traits?

There are many other F2P games that have this sort of transparency about their projects. It actually keeps both their veteran interested (retention) and potential new players intrigued (attracted).

The NPE should be an option for both new and veteran players of GW2. There are games that use ‘tutorial instances’ when introducing new players, rather than forcing the experience on all players. There should be an option to bypass tutorials. Having this choice can bring back the fun of leveling alts for veterans, and the joys of discovery for new players.

Please Make NPE an Option

As the title says… please make the New Player Experience an option for both new and veteran players. Add a checkbox on the login screen or whatever that toggles the ‘mode’ ON or OFF. Even as a new player I would find the NPE insulting, and as a 2 year veteran of this game it is as frustrating as it is insulting when creating new alts.

No precursor since beta. I had to save up 850g to buy one from the TP and grind, grind, grind for the mats too. Not bothering with “crafting” another legendary until either one drops as a legendary miracle, or ANET finally adds a definitive method of acquisition that is not RNG based. RNG in this game sucks and is poorly implemented. I liked another gamer’s suggestion that RNG becomes more ‘lucky’ for people who have notoriously bad luck… the longer they play without a lucky drop the luckier the drop gets over time played.

Long Answer: Tried it and didn’t like it at all. Mobs don’t drop loot and the ‘champ bags’ drop blues and greens. Waste of time. WvW is more rewarding by a long shot. The meta reward for this LS patch is not rewarding enough for the time required.

Short Answer: No.

Loot = Why We Play (Stop the Nerf)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: seabhac.5346

seabhac.5346

The loot is so bad, it feels punishing.

My best ‘loot’ days in this game were the ‘head start’ days prior to release (when keys actually dropped from mobs).

Now, I can slay 10-15 mobs in a row without a single drop only to get a gray on the next.

I also think you shouldn’t even see a blue or green drop from mega boss kills, and you shouldn’t get a lower level item back from the mystic forge when you toss in 4 level 80 items.

This is the most unrewarding game I’ve ever played. I really hope it changes soon, and that we actually get a response that the dev team is listening and working on a solution.

Scarlet Event still bugged after 3-7-14 patch

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: seabhac.5346

seabhac.5346

Played two instances on the Tarnished Coast server after the patch went live. During the second instance in the final 25% of the holo phase, the event glitched and the holo was stuck in an invulnerable state.

What gripes me most about this buggy release is the complete waste of precious time, for absolutely nothing. Nearly half an hour of time wasted, because when these events glitch and fail there isn’t any reward. So, after nearly a half hour of dodging lasers for the achievement until I want to scratch my eyes out… it glitches… and that time and effort is completely wasted. For everyone who participated!

We are now into the 4th day of this event, and are still alpha testing patches for bug fixes on the live servers. Wow.

Personally, I am done with this event. It is not all that fun to begin with, and with all of the added frustration with the numerous bugs, it is unbearable. I don’t have extra time in my daily life to squander on something so frustrating. The little time I manage to find for gaming is for enjoyment and relaxation. Not this experience.

Homophobia & the Ignore System

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

seabhac.5346

I agree OP. In fact, I just experienced another round of it today in LA on HoD. I asked the offenders to please stop and then they go obnoxious about it and attacked me. So, I reported and blocked them. Turns out one of them ended up in WvW. That person then got into a verbal fight with some folks and began a round of griefing by destroying golems. Later on they began commanding, and since I have them blocked …. can’t see any team instructions.

I later heard that they claimed to be gay and that I shouldn’t have been offended. As far as I’m concerned they should know better. If they truly are gay, they should know that it gets old and that we are tired of being subjected to it, especially in a gaming environment where we are actively trying to escape this sort of oppressive behavior.

I play games to have fun and escape this type of verbal abuse that exists in the real world.

Blocking helps, and reporting will help thin out the offenders. But, to be honest I also feel like turning off all chat just to avoid it altogether.
