Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
It’s boring to level because;
1) There are 80 flipping levels. 80. This has the following result -> 2.
2) The effect of increasing a level feels meaningless at best. Wow, another skillpoint and a trait... × 70.
The game needed 10 levels max. The first 10 levels introduce a wide array of different mechanics, making them actually feel meaningful. For some classes.
The effect of increasing a level feels meaningless because Anet did not elaborate on anything in this game. Don’t base or confuse character progression on what Anet has implemented in GW2. Most GW1 players have ZERO knowledge on what an MMO was, is or should be.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Why is it that people feel they have to sit around. Go do a few events, gather some stuff, kill a few things….you know that is playing the game
^^ Exactly.
Personally, I try to make as few assumptions as possible as to how others should be managing their lives.
The thing is, the poster came on here complaining about how Anet doesn’t make events that fits their time management on an MMO.
The event takes too much of your time? Oh well, guess you can’t get the achievements then.
I also don’t want to wait around for the event. Which is why I won’t be making the achievements for this LS either. Other players will have the achievement and I won’t. That’s how it works. Move on.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Imo, leveling is far too easy. You shouldn’t be able to craft to 80, you shouldn’t get exp from gathering, you shouldn’t get exp from wvw (outside of ranking) and you shouldn’t be able to switch out your toon out last minute in dungeons. They should also get rid of instant 80 pvp toon. Make ppl work for that.
They need to make character progression harder and more rewarding. After all, MMO’s are about character progression not instant rewards. This is the downfall of GW2 and its what made WoW a terrible game. Anyone can hop into the game and do w/e they want just because they logged on. Garbage. If ppl want instant brain dead rewards they should stick with Xbox fps games.
One opinion – mine is that GW2 woulda just been like every other MMO had this model been agreed upon. What would have been the value proposition for the market had it done all of the above and been no different from the others?
I’ll tell you what. I had no idea GW2 was going for the, “We’re going to be different” marketing angle. Furthermore, I had no idea that their idea of different meant, making a face-roll action rpg w/a bit of MMO elements here and there. To top it off the game is plagued with players who want to make this already faceroll game into a Rockstarr/EA sports first person shooter.
The most common complaint I hear or read about this game is that its BORING. Why? Because its a FACEROLL w/zero, none, zipp in the way of immersion. Why? Because there is zero, none, zipp investment into your character. Why? Because you can FACEROLL to 80 w/zero, none, zipp effort.
I have made 10+ 80s and have deleted half of them. Why? Because I can flip an 80 eating a ham sammich and I got BORED w/the ones I had. Why? Because the game is FACEROLLING to 80.
That’s a fine pair of rose-colored glasses you have there.
Did you use this in the right context? Telling someone they view life/world through rose colored glasses means, the individual, naively, perceives everything as great or is doing okay when it is not. Where in my post did you get this feeling that I wear rose colored glasses? lol.

They should get rid of scaling, if anything.

MMO’s “WERE” about character progression; leveling the character as well as any of its abilities was the most important part of the game. However, posters are correct when they state that GW2 is just numbers ticking. Indeed, it is. But that is the shortcoming of the game. There is a zero reward system for a zero effort game-play. That does not change the aspect of character progression of the MMO genre. Why? Because that’s what made MMO’s, MMO’s.
Now a days, we have a bunch of weekend warriors/Xbox Call of Duty players who think that MMO’s are for players to just hop on and do anything they want for the half an hour they’re on, to get their fix and hop off. Unfortunately, Dev’s like Anet have been catering to this crowd for some time now because its all about the money. Who can blame them? My gripe with this is it has ruined the MMO experience. I look forward to the first true to the genre MMO that comes out and says, “You want anything in this game, you actually have to play the game. Because the adventure of the game is part of the fun”. Until then, its fail MMO’s with players who think the game should play itself.

Idk. I’m not gonna sit here and qq over where an MMO should go. If GW2 fails, well, then it fails. Not my problem. I just move on to the next MMO.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Lets not talk for everyone shall we?
I for one prefer the current way of releasing stuff, but I suppose that might have to do with the fact that I can play quite often and thus like to get new stuff more often than once a year. You also have to keep in mind that an expansion would most likely deliver more or less exactly the same content as the living story, but as a package instead of smaller parts released over time. So the whole argument that it is “boring and predictable” is rather silly, since the expansion would be even more so, seeing as you wouldn’t have the suspense between releases.
Further proof most GW2 players have NEVER played an MMO before. Expansions open up new content such as maps/worlds, skills/traits/abilities, races/classes/professions, dungeons/raids, gear/weps, etc etc. Unless you’re asking a question, please know what you’re talking about before posting on forums… Thanks.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Watch this video and tell me how much that upcoming change to critical damage will help. If you ask me, class/trait and AI changes must be done instead.
These types of players will always find a way to squeeze every last bit of whatever they can from a piece of gear, stat and ability. If Anet’s nerf is due to these types of players, then Anet has clearly lost the plot.
Nerfs are usually player skill redistribution/welfare and the only ppl it hurts is the common man/player (:P)
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
The problem here is that in GW2 there are three very different games with three very different playstyles, requiring three very different fixes; PvP, PvE, WvW and they’re all instanced. Normally, this shouldn’t be a problem but for Anet? Idk. As far as I’m concerned PvE should be of #1 concern for an MMO.
Which is why MMO’s should just have open world PvP/GvG and put the PvP instances on the back burner, especially when you’re having this much trouble.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Any kind of structure in a party would have casuals wondering what to do. It would probably put the spotlight on how they usually just get carried through pve.
That being said, I wish they fixed or tried to implement what they said they were going to implement (dmg, support, control). Right now it’s just dmg; something casuals are having a field-day with.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.

Honestly… where is everybody? There seems to be no need for interaction with anyone pre-10. The chats seem completely dead. While I enjoy the gameplay, I feel very… bored. I am going to power through it and whatnot, but am I missing something in the social department? Did I miss a tutorial on it? I’m not on an empty server; what’s going on?
Don’t listen to these other posters. Most maps/zones in this game are dead, so map chat will essentially be dead. There are several reasons for this. Here are the two main reasons, shortened for your convenience.
1: There is NOTHING to be gained from frequenting zones unless you are going for map completion for legendary. In this case, players will be doing a zone once over and that’s it.
2: There are too many other ways to cheese it to 80 (which most players will do anything to get there as soon as possible. Why? Because there is no pleasure in lvling. As a poster proudly stated on another thread; lvling is “filler”) ex: crafting, switching to your low lvl toon at end of dungeon run, riding a lowbie through a wvw karma train.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
“Right, so flip that on the other side. If I go to a map I wouldn’t go to and expect to be alone . . . and wind up ganked by the three people who are in the other guild? Why wouldn’t I be kittened off about it?”
Why would you buy an MMOrpg if you want to play alone?
Why would I play an MMOrpg where I would expect to be attacked anywhere at any time?
Probably because its part of the game. Having pvp an almost seperate game within the game, which is what Anet has done (or at least has tried to do), has given Anet way more work than they can handle. Hence the fail of pvp and wvw.
No, they proved with Guild Wars that the PvP and PvE split works just fine. Awesome even. What they need to to do is get back to their roots, throw up a big middle finger to people asking for more mainstream MMO features, and turn this in to the great game it could be.
Clearly its on the road to being the greatest MMO ever. Tell me, when’s the last time you’ve cruised the pve maps? How many ppl have you stumbled into on your journey? One word; CASUAL.
Not even close! It’s on the way to becoming just another clone in a long line of clones if they don’t stop listening to the players who keep saying “this other game has this feature, why can’t it be in this game”.
OPen worl GvG is absolutely one of the WORST ideas anyone has suggested for this game. It would cause far more problems then it would be worth, and that IF it could even be added without screwing up so many other elements. If/when they add guild halls, that is when they can add GvG. With the wildly different guild sizes, what you can expect is 2x 5 man teams fighting it out in a guild hall. There is no workable way to have entire guild fighting it out in massive battles in the open world so don’t even bother thinking about it. Open world PvP has no place in this game and the players who keep asking for it are a very small minority who keep trying to turn this game in to some weird clone of some other game that they should just go play instead.
Clearly not. Anet will do what most doomed MMO’s do these days and listen to their casual player base. And when those casual players come and go and the game bombs there will be no hardcore player base left to keep them afloat.
I’m waiting for the day GW2 unveils there new xpac, complete with a new furry cuddly race for those cutesie casuals

My problem with all the GW2 hoopla will be solved on 4/4/14.
What’s coming out on that date?
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
As a Guild of One, i fully support this idea! Not.
Uh. I’m not in a guild either. Why? Because most of the time, the uselessness outweighs the usefulness (not too mention the fail guild after fail guild gets old). I fully support GvG open world. As I stated before, it may even actually make being in a guilds appealing.
Seems you have not found a good guild that would take you then. What by the way is a fail guild? It isn’t the fault of the game you can’t find other people that want to play with you. :P
A fail guild is one that does nothing or barely does anything; dungeons, wvw, missions but most of all…chat. I’ve lvl’d enough 80s, all of which had a combination of exotics/ascended gear. I can honestly say 90-95% of that gear, on all toons, was from pugging it. Outside of getting that quick exotic backpack, id rather rep my own one man guild for extra bank space.
Well there are plenty of guilds that don’t fit into your ‘fail guild’ criteria. I suppose you should look around. It isn’t the fault of the the game that you joined ‘x’ guild that spammed /map and then let you down. Joining a good guild is part of the game, shopping around to see what fits your needs. Meeting players along the way in a guild to see if they would make a good fit. Heads up, if they are spamming /map then they just want numbers and don’t care about you.
But hey, since you want GvG PvP in PvE you better find one soon. Wait, never mind GvG in PvE won’t ever happen. Thank goodness.
Trogdor? Isn’t that a name of a troll in the Shiverpeaks? :P
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
This does the exact opposite of what they wanted…
Now since zerk does less dmg groups will almost have to run full zerk to keep dmg up. If you run anything but zerk you’re going to slow down the group… GG
You can also count on people who want fast runs to start requiring Ascended Weapons with force/night sigils and Offensive Consumables only aside from Berserker everything and Scholar runes in their listing
These two posts are so hilarious, sad and so on point all at the same time. Next time you get booted from a party because you have not meet these requirements remember to thank Anet.

I can get a legendary drop in an hour or two in Diablo 3. I want this feature in GW2.
Are you seriously going to go ahead and use an A-rpg to prove a point about an MMO? Did you just do that?
What’s the problem with this ? Why are you making limitation that is suit you ?
You can compare brand, you can compare genre, you can compare anything.
If you’d tell give me the feature existed in GW2, Ok … I understand.
You proposed something extending limits to whole MMO genre. Btw Diablo 3 is close to it already.
I extended to online genre with multiplayer elements.Do you seriously think your opinion is prevalent ? Did you just do that ?
If you can’t see how this might be a problem, there’s no need to continue this conversation. Good day, sir.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Meaning, my issue isn’t solely having to do with open world pvp. Its populating the maps/making leveling more interesting/making the point of playing an MMO more prevalent in GW2.
Again, what benefit to PvE maps would come from populating the maps with people PvPing? It would just add noise and be of no benefit to people that are there for PvE. “Hey glad the map is filled there is this temple event up let’s do it.” “Sorry bro too busy fighting other players for that.”
Populating a PvE map is one thing but if it is populated with PvP then it is nothing but a WvW hybrid and brings no actual quality to those engaged in PvE.
If all that is important to you is a populated map then there is always LA.
I rather have that instead of…
“Hey guys, lets go kill this boss!”
“Guys?”
“Anyone?”Why? What would be the point? There is no benefit to populating PvE maps with players that are not into PvE aside from more people chatting in /map. If you want that LA is the place for you. As for your example:
“Hey guys, let’s go kill this boss!”
“Guys?”
“Sorry dude we are busy killing each other.”The end result is the same but with a bunch of people in PvE not interested in PvE.
The point is to bring activity to a map, regardless of what that “life” is doing on the map. Ppl that aren’t going to do a temple because they’d rather be pvping wouldn’t be doing the temple regardless.
Attracting players to a map, regardless of what they are doing or their intentions, will indirectly draw more/other players to a map; enhancing the experiencing of being in a world such as Tyria.
The dead maps in GW2 are a major issue for me. Players ganking other players usually draws the attention of said ganked players guild mates, also possibly making being in a guild actually have a use. They may want to stick around for a while to possibly do an event that sprung up/a temple event that started while they were there defending the honor of their guildmate. You never know how a chain of events can unfold. Its little things like open world pvp, better rewards/drops/skins that draw players to maps…
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
I’m confused. You aren’t for “putting pvp gankers in maps” yet you are for open world PvP. The first is always the product of the second. You can’t have one without the other.
Higher level zones are often empty as a side effect of auto-leveling down. Why roam a level 60 zone while the level 10 zone is “easier” to do while you still get similar rewards? They’ve tried to steer the population through living story content into zones not normally roamed. They’ve tried steering the population into areas though land specific achievements in the daily ( ______ veteran/kills/events). What they need to offer a level criteria based achievement. Level 60 vets or events in level 60 zones. Problem is it discriminates against newer characters. Well I guess they could make it true level appropriate vet/kill/event as a criteria.
And don’t we have enough kitten lore as it is? I can’t swing a sword without seeing the history of this world and why such and such is the way it is or why this area is dangerous now.
How are you confused? Getting open world pvp is only a part of the bigger picture. Meaning, my issue isn’t solely having to do with open world pvp. Its populating the maps/making leveling more interesting/making the point of playing an MMO more prevalent in GW2.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Could have fooled me. You and a few others have posted as if you were the owners of this game. Making statements along the lines of you “don’t want pvp in pve maps, period” and “not in your game” (paraphrasing the sentiment, of course). Open world pvp used to be a fact of life for an MMO. Now, instead, we have absolutely dead maps/zones because there’s no interest for players to be there and because pveer’s want their pve left alone. Yes, they like their maps VERY much alone.
You do realize open world PvP vanished from mainstream MMOs back with Everquest (which had all of two/one server devoted to it)?
You also realize paraphrasing me into something I didn’t say outright, making my opinion of “I don’t want it” into “it shouldn’t be there”, is really low right?
My only comment coming close is “the devs made the choice it wouldn’t happen during design”.
Keep in mind, I’m not really interesting in putting pvp gankers in maps. I’m more interested in putting LIFE into these dead zones. Those horrible world events/living story events that Anet seems to keep shoveling out a dime a dozen does NOTHING for the ever returning problem of dead maps/zones.
This is almost the only thing we agree on in this whole diatribe.
W/e. Anet needs to do three things to start putting this game off in the right direction. If it values longevity;
1. Open world PvP (whether they create new servers for this or not, idk)
2. Better, more rewarding rewards/skins from heart vendors/drops from killing mobs in maps. A reason to map to 80 as opposed to cheesing it (aka crafting, switching to your lowbie at the end of a dungeon run and wvwing).
3. Expound on the lore, both the bigger picture as well as zone specific lore. Make it more interesting and engaging. Draw the player in.
Those are just a few ideas outside of fixing their end game.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.

Not really much of a PVPer myself (yet) but the obvious solution would be that changing guild etc is disabled/not allowed during combat. Stick on a cooldown of a few minutes when leaving combat too and viola – solution!
Clearly the poster who said this can also way point during combat. Yes and fly to Jumping Puzzle completion.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
This really bothers me. I’ve played enough MMO’s where they have a decent amount of weapon and armor skins. However, in GW2 there seems to be a severe lack of weapon and armor skins outside of the TP/Gemstore.
In particular, when you complete a heart (or even random drops, for that matter), you go to the heart vendor and you see all of these elaborate names for the weapons and armors they have. Only, when you purchase those elaborately named weapons and or armor you find that its the same generic skin you’ve already seen a MILLION times since starter zone. This is really bad, imho. Not too mention, a let down. Is this something they’re going to look into at some point?
There could always be more. Then again there’s a ton more than FFXIV which I’ve not long come from.
If this is true then FFXIV isn’t even worth the space it would take up in my comp.

It’s not part of the game, you’re trying to sell me on it needing to be part of the game. I can go to WvW and play rather close to what you’re suggesting, and with much more satisfaction since people not on my guild can come help me if I am in over my head.
For the last time: I am not interested in a game where I would have to constantly look over a shoulder for someone coming after me. I am likewise not interested in trying to make other players who might not want that adhere to it because that’s my personal vision of a perfect game.

The 10% reduction in dmg for zerker gear will make boss fights longer by about…10%… GG anet
O.k…some math. If all 5 party members have 100% critical chance and if none of the party apply any damaging conditions then yes, mathematically the fight should last 10% longer. But that’s a pretty big if.

In most mmorpg you got to live with the skin that is on the item in GW2 you can switch the skin. Also GW2 has a lot of skins in the game a lot of them if you realty cant find something you like i do not think there any skin type you will like i think its more on the lines that for once in your life your not forced to have one skill and one skill only and you cant make decisions on what you like and do not like so your falling into a default “i hate every thing” mind set.
Not at all. There a plenty of skins I like in GW2. I’m not saying there aren’t enough skins I like in gw2. I’m saying there aren’t enough skins, period. Particularly, especially, ones you can get from open world pveing, mapping, questing etc etc.

But is 10% really that long of a time. Even if the fight takes half an hour that’s an extra 3 minutes and a 6 minute fight would increase by 36 seconds.
- Are the boss fights that boring that this extra time is unacceptable?
- Could the changes I talk about above make up for this time loss and make the boss fights more interesting? Also making combat more interseting and giving combat more depth.
No, the 10% time increase during boss fights isn’t that much. And yes, the boss fights are long, drawn out and boring (soz). The point being, Anets nerfs and buffs do nothing and never seem to help nor hurt the fails of this game. Its almost as if their changes are symbolic rituals, 2nd natured, thoughtless motions dev’s of MMO’s usually do to emanate the air of investment in the game. Picture the worker watching surfing the web at work and OH NOES here comes the boss, pretend you’re working, (proceeds to clack away at the keyboard). Probably because its part of the game. Having pvp an almost seperate game within the game, which is what Anet has done (or at least has tried to do), has given Anet way more work than they can handle. Hence the fail of pvp and wvw.

“Right, so flip that on the other side. If I go to a map I wouldn’t go to and expect to be alone . . . and wind up ganked by the three people who are in the other guild? Why wouldn’t I be kittened off about it?”

The 10% reduction in dmg for zerker gear will make boss fights longer by about…10%… GG anet

Seriously, dude. Use the LFG tool. If you’re lvl 38 and looking to do storymode (which you must indicate in your LFG post), you should be able to find a group in no time (depending on time of day).
It’s really when you’re low lvl and you attempt to do exploration mode, you’ll have trouble getting a group, for the most part. Groups, generally, don’t want lowbies for exploration mode.

Yeah, guys! Allowing pvp in DEAD/ABONDONED/DESERTED pve maps is absolutely ridiculous.
Lol at all the ppl on here shooting down ideas to populate/make interesting, maps they NEVER go to anyways. If you bump into 3 or more ppl at any given time on a pve map that doesn’t have a champ train or 5-10 minute world boss, its a miracle.

“Not enough skins that I like”? I’m near certain, I’m not the only one that believes the dungeon token armor/weapon sets are half heart-ed attempts. You should re read my posts, though. I have stated several times what i mean, exactly.
At the end of the day, Anet is about the gem store. I understand that’s where they make their money and that’s fine, to a certain degree. However, you can still make money while elaborating on the fundamentals of the game (not to mention they already involve a charge, of some sort or other, to customize your skins anyways transmutation stones).
Plenty of f2p games out there that offer a plethora of skins while maintaining a decent income from their gemstore-esque skins(minus the transmutation stones). I’m not sure why Anet thinks its okay to offer the bare minimum. This was a game hyped on new innovative ideas. They should be at least capable of drumming up a good amount of armor skins obtainable from the pve world.

“As Danikat said, I wouldn’t worry too much about appearance while leveling; it’s all temporary. Before I even make my characters I tend to plan them out around what end-game armor I’m going to get them. Everything leading up to that is just filler.”
This is part of my point from my last post. For you, leveling being “filler” may be fine but I have an issue with this. I have made somewhere in the neighborhood of 10+ lvl 80’s (all of which have/had a combination of exotic/ascended gear). So, with all due respect, I don’t need tutorials on where or how to get skins.
I’m not really looking for ideas of what to do with what we are given in game. This was not the intent of my original post. I am pointing out that there is a poor choice of amor/weapon skins from pve (which mean’s actually playing the game). Someone even pointed out the dungeon quartermasters. More than half of those skins are TERRIBLE. Where is the creativity from anet?! Are they working on another “flame set” modeled after “fresh out of the character creator” skins?

Kalarchis, I have seen all of the skins from the forge. I appreciate the list, however. Either way. Leveling a character in an mmo used to be one of the most interesting things about an MMO. Nevertheless, it seems that most of these forge skins are for end game.
Part of the failure of most MMO’s these days is that its a mad rush to get to “end game”. Why? Because the leveling part is boring, uninspiring and unrewarding (outside of reaching “endgame”). Having a decent amount of interesting armor and weapon skins (or lack thereof) is, to me, an often overlooked aspect as to why.

Ehh, I don’t mind them having some skins that are for sale through the gem store. However, to have only a handful of skins that one may be able to get from actually playing the game (pve world). I think it just sucks. Especially when they give these skins cool sounding names.
