You guys are hilarious, coming onto an MMO forum talking about ppl whining. But seriously, let’s stay on topic. Stop turning this into a third party website good/bad discussion. This thread is about the gate lock dungeon event mechanic being silly and pointless.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Aside from the last event of the chain you can solo it and getting two people is not that hard. In addition that site has NEVER been down for me I have to use it daily. If it’s not open on any servers go to the the one that says attacking and do the event. It doesn’t ruin accessibility anyone can do the event. So what if you have to do the event? It doesn’t take a lot of time and if you don’t have that amount of time why are you playing in the first place? It’s like saying Fotm lvl 10+ isn’t accessible to you because you invested the time to get to that level.
Aw. Someone with tighter restrictions than ANet!
If you decide to cripple yourself based on unnecessary principles, go live by it and be bitter about it quietly.
If ANet is so against 3rd party websites, they wouldn’t have released the API codes for the world bosses and events, etc.
Principle? I have to use a third party website in order to navigate an MMO? What year is this? If you support mediocrity and live by it, be satisfied by it quietly.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
It takes less than a minute to guest to a server where it is open.
How do you know what server is open? Using a third party website? Just so happens that third party website is kittened this fine afternoon. So now what?
http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html
It can be off sometimes but it’s almost always accurate and if it isn’t man up and open those gates.Man up, huh? Literate it up and try reading the thread before posting. These issues were already addressed by me in my FIRST post.

In addition that website has never gone down for me and if it did I’d use another one, Google is a thing after all. Don’t forget other games you have to use third party sites to know when certain things are happening or when they should happen. I don’t see this as an issue and I have no idea why you do, what would you suggest? A system that ques you up for a dungeon(which the community will hate on forever)? Another intrusive UI element just to see when events pop cross server(which I’m sure there’s an app for)? This issue is a minor inconvenience at best and because of that it will never be addressed as we don’t have a dedicated dungeon lead anymore. That’s why I say man up because there’s no point in complaining about it since nothing will happen.
I’m against using third party websites to retrieve in game information. Is this not clear for you? If Anet is not going to nerf the gates then a player should be able to scroll over the locked gate in which case a list will appear displaying servers that have the gate open.
Furthermore, as someone posted above, if they are going to make these events necessary the gates should be opened for a decent amount of time afterwards.
Bottom line, the way these events to unlock dungeons’ gates are at present time, are no good. They were made with the idea of the game being heavily populated and a player-base that is just thrilled to tackle the events and willing to put in the work. This is obviously not the case. Hence, a decent amount of servers’ dungeons on perma lock. Anet needs to rework this situation in order to keep up with the availability of dungeon access.
Lastly, what are we talking about here, exactly? A locked dungeon? For what? Are you really going to miss the event that unlocks these dungeon gates? Or are you here for arguments sake?

CoF/CoE gates:

Okay, once we get ANet to confirm that this third party site or any other third party site used for these events, are safe to use then I have no problem using them.

I can make a full party of 80’s right now and get inside with 5 people. Your just being lazy and do not want to open the doors.
People are playing the game they just may not want to do those dungeons.
Then go do it. Go open the gate. Post on here, when you’re done, the server its on.

Anet, you are either trying to make this game more accessible to everyone or you are not. Please choose which one. The gates closing and opening on CoF are worthless and annoying. Don’t see the point. And if you bothered to look at the NA servers on 3rd party websites you will take note that most servers have their gates closed permanently. Please do away with these ridiculous gates. Yours truly.
1. Gates on dungeons force a player to use a third party site in order to find out which server that specific dungeon is open on. This is a problem. For instance, one such third party site used for this was either down or had issues. Secondly, I don’t feel a player should have to use a third party site in order to access in game information.
2. These gate events require the player to find other players to team up with to pve the gates open. Not many ppl are willing or are up for this type of event. In other words, it’s easier to find a group of ppl to run the dungeon than it is to open the dungeon. If the events were soloable it would be a different story. However, they are not.

Out of 3-4 rares I’d get 2-3 ectos, depending (worst case scenario, 1 ecto). Now, I’ve been noticing that out of 3-4 rares, the average is 0 ectos. What’s the dealio? Am I missing something?

The last time Anet did an improvement to GW2 that wasn’t blatantly geared to you using the gemstore was when they put the game on store shelves. Everything since then has been nothing more than half hearted attempts at getting ppl to use real life money. These LS’s are sorry excuses for content.
really?
So new PvP maps
new WvW map
a new zone
achievement rewards
daily rewards
LFG
new fractals
fractals
new bosses
old bosses redone
boss rewards
champion rewards
etc
do not count? There were like a million quality of life updates and you did not see a single one?
Nope.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Gw2 is to the world of MMO’s what a magazine is to the world of reading.
For instance, I went to the bookstore the other day, picked up a magazine and flipped through the pages. 50% of that magazine is advertisements trying to get the “reader” to buy stuff. The rest? More advertisements to get you to buy stuff, only they are in the form of articles; giving the reader the illusion they are actually reading things of substance.
Overall, there is really nothing to that magazine but shallow, 1 dimensional illusions of literature crafted for the process of revenue creation.

I’m sorry but if this is how b2p/f2p games work, then I’d just rather play a p2p game. At least then, I will be playing a game that makes updates, patches and add ons that try to enrich the game that I’m paying for.
I’m really starting to think that b2p/f2p MMO’s just do not work. Perhaps for the devs they work out just fine. However, as far as the player is in mind? I don’t think these f2p/b2p methods are worth the money and time investment for a gamer. It’s a constant struggle to get your money from weak content. Overall, I believe the player loses with these types of games.
This is my opinion, of course. You are free to disagree.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
No serious gamer cares one iota about LS…
after 1.5 years
-Still unrewarding and meaningful content that takes skill and challenge
The latest is champ zerg trains lol. Name a better way to make money than farming 40-45 champ bags an hour-One update in terms of dungs/fracs (fractured lol)
-One map for WvW (honestly only happened cause of the unbelievable queue times)
-sPvP is laughably ignored
-Zerg content is meta (latest LS events, champ trains, WvW zergs, etc etc)
-hardly any meaningful skills/profession changes
- gem store update every freaking time (keep adding the cool skins only to gem store…lets not add it as rewards for skilled gameplay and time invested…)Yet all anet cares about is….gemstore + LS… that is their number 1 priority….
I’m baffled at how people are saying this is the most amazing MMO and what not when this game doesn’t even have rewarding skilled gameplay or a true viable endgame (please don’t freaking saying jumping in a zerg to spam your entire skill bar in WvW has endgame)gooo LS + gemstore updates goo!! thats all that matters
I really do think GW2 has potential. It CAN be a great game; depending on how you play and what you do while playing. However, this comment has plenty of great points.
Anet needs to start shakin’ their tail-feathers around that office of theirs.

I like the items as they are. In inventory. There’s this feel of preparing for a journey when I choose what items I want to bring with me today.
Really? I don’t think going to your bank to pick up a mining pick and axe adds to the adventure whatsoever. I wonder though, where are posters like you and “easy-button” penguin when ppl are on this forum talking about how they don’t want levels in an MMO? Or when ppl post about how they think Dailies are too demanding?
Now, we are talking about “convenience” gemstore items and all of a sudden we have posters like you and penguin that think innovations to gemstore items take away from the “adventure” and promote casual game play. It’s funny, really.

Not really a great business strategy when I think the ab items are not worth getting anymore. To buy duplicates of an ab item makes zero sense and defeats the purpose of that item being ab.
You’re entitled to your opinions on what’s worth getting, and what’s not. I’m explaining things to you from a business perspective. If you want something that adds convenience, but it’s not required, you have the option of buying it. If you want more conveniences, there are options too. Anet knows this, and provides you what you want. The cost is in Gems, so you can spend real money, or in-game Gold to get them. And the more convenient way to get Gems quickly is to buy them with your creditcard. I know this, because I’ve bought many many many Gems.
I think the point is some people actually bought multiple copies of account bound item.
So in the end, for Anet point of view is weather they’ll make more money from people buying multiple items for different character or more people willing to buy items once because they can use it on multiple character.
This argument is ridiculous. I was one of those ppl who bought soulbound gathering tools. Should I be refunded now? Was there a refund for those?
There was a refund for those who bought multiple mining items once the change was made from Soul Bound to Account Bound. If they made it so there’s an easy access for a mining tool to be use on all characters without swapping, there’d be more refunds for those who purchased multiple Account Bound tools. But I highly doubt that account wide access to the tools will ever occur.
Well then, I wasn’t made aware of this because I have 4 soul bound gathering tools on two different characters that I was never refunded for.

From ArenaNet’s PoV, they would see this as a minor inconvenience to you vs as profit loss for them. People buy multiple copies to get around this. If they were to make it an unlock without any downsides, ArenaNet would have to offer refunds to these people as well as lose future profits.
The closest compromise would be an account wide bag slot to store these items in.
Personally, I think these items, including skins, should be unlocks, and stuff like boosters and minis should also be accessible through the UI, but I doubt it’ll ever happen.
Indeed. Microtransactions are the bread and butter for Anet. With no subscription fees, we get a great game with optional cash shop purchases. If a player wants something that provides more conveniences, options are available. That person then makes the choice of how convenient they want to make the game. More conveniences = spending more money. It’s a great business strategy.
You call what I have suggested, “easy buttons”? Is this a joke? These are ACCOUNT BOUND “CONVENIENCE” ITEMS we’re talking about…
They are indeed Account Bound, so you can put them into your Bank, and transfer them between characters. If that’s too inconvenient for you, you have the option of purchasing more. Many players have done this.

If you want to use the same item on multiple characters, simply buy duplicates for each one. Or, if you don’t want to spend the money, just transfer the item via your Bank.
I really wish, Penguin, that you would read my posts instead of just responding to them. This is the second time today you’ve just thrown out a “creative solution” w/o, obviously, reading what I wrote.
You want the following:
Buy Gem Store item once = usable on all characters via easy button.
I’m telling you the following:
1) Buy multiple of the same item to avoid transferring between characters
or
2) Buy one item, and transfer them between characters (if it’s account bound) to save money
You call what I have suggested, “easy buttons”? Is this a joke? These are ACCOUNT BOUND “CONVENIENCE” ITEMS we’re talking about…
The implementation Anet has for these items defeats the purpose of them, as well as your “solutions”.
Do you honestly think I have overlooked what you call a “solution”? My post is a way to make these items better. Stop trolling.

Your “creative solutions” are the inherent problems w/the AB ‘convenience’ items. Why on earth, would I buy duplicates of an ACCOUNT BOUND item? Please think before you post. Thank you.

(edited by siralius.9517)
Earlier today I created a post discussing how the permanent Captain’s Airship Pass should be made into a consumable which creates a UI option somewhere in the Hero tab. I would like to extend that idea to most account bound “convenience” items.
For instance, all account bound gathering tools should be bought as a consumable and then once consumed, the slots on ALL of your toons, before and after purchase, where these gathering tools are placed should have some sort of thumbnail-esque picture indicating you have purchased the ab gathering tool. Nothing would need to change other then the inconvenience of having to continually switch back and forth from character to character, placing ab gemstore “convenience” items into your bank for another character to retrieve that item.
I would also like to see this kind of innovation with ab items such as the “salv 0 matic”. Why not put a salv 0 matic icon somewhere on the inventory/bag window? It doesn’t have to be a large button click icon, just large enough for the person to click it when they need to salvage an item.
These are ideas I believe anet could be looking into to improve their gemstore ab items. If you sell them as convenience items then lets make them convenient. “Just purchase another of the same ab ‘convenience’ item”, won’t do as a solution. Sorry.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Would it hurt the economy so bad? I don’t think so. It would definitly encourage buying more stuff for gems if would actually taste how it feels to have something from the gem store that actually isn’t a useless booster everyone saves up and never uses.
I think it would actually hurt the gemstore once you find out what you get from opening a bl chest.
Mystery tonic, anyone?
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
There’s a lot of things that should be given UI options instead of being useable items. In this case however, I think they would like you to be a little inconvenienced in order to bait you into buying more for other characters. Some people will do this.
Yes, well for the ab gathering tools and slav 0 matic, I could possibly see why you wouldn’t make a consumable to UI option. However, with the pass I can’t really see why it wouldn’t or shouldn’t be…
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
I wonder if making it an account wide buff would also let them code things so you aren’t ejected from the space upon logging in…
Certainly an opportunity to improve the product and increase its value as a convenience.
I thought about this as well but I wasn’t sure if the reason you get ejected from the air ship was to make sure those with temp don’t stick an alt in for perma convenience… Not sure how the temps work exactly, though.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
The both of you have demonstrated that you either did not read my post or did not understand what I wrote. I BOUGHT THE PASS FROM THE GEM STORE. However, I really don’t feel like I should have to swap the ticket from character to character in order to use an ACCOUNT BOUND item. It should be made into a consumable and accessed from my “Hero” window, for all characters, anytime I’m logged into that character.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
And what I mean by this is, it should turn into a button clicky thing that you access through some tab in the hero window.
Since it is account bound, why is it that I should have to log out of one character to get the ticket to put in the bank to switch it back to another character? This pass is supposed to be about convenience. The fact that I have to do this is NOT convenient. Please fix this anet.
Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.

Sorry to say but it is one big zergfest. And unfortunately, of the worst kind I’ve played yet (or at least in a while) in gw2.
The only thing good that came out of this patch was the armor sets.
Ppl say it’s rewarding to leave the zerg to solo but what is the reward? Exp?
The zerg offers protection, rezzes and mass amounts of bag drops. Who the heck would leave the zerg?

Let’s make it “Casual Friday” errday.
Not going to happen. Dyes wont be worth anything on TB so what good would those who who bought more than get the extra ones back. Everyone would want the gold they spent on them to be returned, that is the only way this will be acceptable.
Eh, plenty of things we just have to take in stride in an MMO. So you spent some extra gold on extra dyes. Eh.

I don’t know about the rest of you but I would absolutely be supportive of giving hackers a 15 year minimum sentence, no questions asked. Although, their talent and ambitions are frivolous, this issue is much more serious than slowing down a couple of online game servers. The answer would be that the GW2 Servers, are yet again, under DDOS attack.
This keeps coming up, but I’m starting to wonder if that is truly the issue. You’d think that for the 3rd night in a row they’d be a little more prepared with how to stop it when it happened.
Yup. Either way, Anet needs to take responsibility for this. And if it is true, we have a hacker (or w/e the heck you call those bored man-boy trolls), I’m not sure what these trolls think they’re accomplishing by DDOSing. This kind of stuff only entices the governments to enact more laws to put more of a strangle hold on the internet. GG Anet and bored man-boy “hacker” troll.

Although I do miss being able to play a healing class for pure support, I don’t mind so much that everything revolves around DPS. What I get tired of is having to use the same weapon skills ALL THE TIME. I would love for them to do a complete overhaul of the skill system one day, and make it more like it was with GW1. Adding several more weapon skills for each weapon and allowing us to interchange the first 5 skill slots the way we want to. I think that would make a world of difference to this game.
I think this is a great idea. Opening up new weapon skills for more customization is something that would make this game much more interesting.

So you claim that people who played GW1 have no clue what an MMO is, but you can’t say why GW1 isn’t an MMO at the same time. It seems like you simply have a very narrow view on what an MMO is or can be.
I’m not the only one who thinks GW1 was not an MMO. In fact, Anet, itself, said GW1 was not a true MMO. For starters, you played by yourself.
