With a good set of traits + amulett you are really survivable with d/d. There are some amazing defensive skills with this setup.
1. you have 10k base health and 2. you have the lowest toughness in the game which make melee for elementalist like a free kill for anyone. And NO there is NO amazing defensive skills with this setup. Because every single defensive CD for elementalist is a kitteny one. Only mist form is equal to other professions in term of defensive CD for utilities.
I don’t understand how you could say that. You’ve got good survivability from the skills(2 heals, 2 aoe kd’s, earth shield, blind, vigor…) and can improve this survivability even further with traits + amulett, depending on the playstyle.
Which means you have LESS then ANY other professions even with the best build ever made.
S/F isn’t good for a power build, I agree… but thats because focus lacks good skills in fire attunement. You can run an OK condition build with good survivability and dps, though it isn’t competetive imo, cause other classes fill that roll way better.
The Scepter break the set not the focus. The Focus bring the defense an elementalist require.
Yep, Staff got somewhat bad damage for sPvP since the staff nerf… but staff still got the option for a strong support specc. Good heal, good conditionremove, AoE damage that helps killing all the nasty phantasms and pets… overall good support.
Yes staff is a good support but elementalist will still get killed by anyone before you can do any kind of support.

In talking with some of the bigger streamers for gw2 spvp like Erho and Phantaram they feel that Ele’s are where the dps/roamer classes should be and that thiefs and mesmers just need to be brought down a bit because right now they are a little too strong. I feel the same, I dont feel that the thief and memser are broken but they do need to be brought down a little.
What about rangers, necros, warriors, guardians and engineer? Why are they blatantly stronger then elementalist?
Because yes they are. Their damage output might be the same in PvE, but in PvP the elementalist get all the slow moving missiles, delayed spells and easily avoidable AoE.
We have far less CC possibilities then other professions.
The traits push us toward staying in one attunement as if we spec for an attunement our damage will suffer greatly from leaving this attunement.

Elem summon is the only viable elite for elementalist.
Tornado damage won’t even be enough to down 20% of regular mobs health on the duration…
Earth elem will easily take agro as well as take lots of hits before going down. Making it the best choice. In PvP water elem will give a free AoE 5-6k heal to you and allies every so often.
And they provide a good amount of damage with it.
Racials and the mist wolf are all useless because they arn’t meant to be good. Like someone already said it’s to keep balance between races.
Cooking require a massive amount of butter. So send them to your guild cooks.

Having more tools at your disposal means that each of them has to be weaker. Its called balance.
I believe we are winning in this trade-off. For example I’d prefer having two 1s stuns on separate cooldowns, rather than having one 2s stun on a single, long cooldown. More flexibility, yada yada.
To come back on topic, has anyone actually ran some tests (Against dummies or something?) I mean, specced as full fire, it seems to me that switching to earth to apply a kitten-ton of bleeds, then water for vulnerability, then coming back to fire will outdps just staying in fire.
And care to explain me where in the world of CC we have more CC then other professions?
Last I checked a warrior could get 7 stuns/knockdown with most of them having lower CD then ALL of our CC.
No we are not.
D/D = Melee on the most squishy class with near to no survivability in close quarter fight. As well as less DPS then any other melee even tho we have the lowest survivability.
S/D = DPS is extremely delayed, lack luster, slow and no survivability at all.
S/F = DPS is extremely delayed and even worst then S/D but the survivability is what it should be for every ranged weapon.
D/F = DPS is lacking and the survivability abilities are made for ranged and not for melee.
Staff = DPS is absent, spells are extremely slows, extremely delayed and the CC is poor version of other professions CCs due to the near impossibility for it to work unless running away from people in strafe mode (Which will undoubtfully make people catch you as you are slower in strafe mode.)
This being said, only the focus is actually a good weapon. But only if used with the scepter… scepter which pretty much suck.
So many people defending elementalist it’s funny.
I was so serious in my post people actually bothered trying to explain to me how to play elementalist.

P.S. Remove ride the lightning and you remove the only ability that allows an elementalist to actually survive a fight for more then the duration of vapor form.
And don’t go explaining me how to play elementalist to survive. Because I don’t feel like teaching you everything other professions have to counter anything you have to say about it.
Because all the traits help only 1 attunement. So it’s worthless to switch to another attunement since you’ll get more damage staying in one.
Better just stay in fire if you have 30 points in fire since you get +20% damage from 10% trait and 2x 5% on burning. No real reason to go to earth since you will just reduce your damage by doing so.
Ironic that the class that is supposed to be all about swapping attunement is… all about not swapping.
Water without water traits doesn’t help your team. It slows the fight as you will be dealing no damage. The heal without +healing is barely noticeable.
The cooldown + initiative is actually better then anything you can propose. >.>
Just add a cooldown on their weapon abilities so they actually start swapping weapons rather then spam 2 or 3 on their dagger (Sometime 5 if they get low health)
I’d agree to reduce the 5 and 6 initiatives cost for abilities at the exception of the dagger 5 skill. But makes it less of a button mash class. When you can just chain 7 heartseeker in a row with roll for initiative, there is no way in hell someone can stop you unless they go invulnerable or stealth for at least 5 seconds.

Other classes have better and more roots with shorter cooldowns.

Elementalist is all about attunement swapping.
Yet they give us traits that affect only one attunement…
the first 5 points in every tree except arcane is for the attunement of the tree only. Half the traits help only the attunement.
The 20% CD reduction for an attunement is a crappy version of every other classes 20% CD reduction on a weapon. We get a trait that reduce our CD for 1/4 of our weapon spells while other professions get a trait that reduce their CD AND grant passive stats for 1/2 of their weapon spells. That makes NO sense to me.
10% increased damage in air attunement… fine that’s a good . But it break the purpose of attunement swapping.
20 damage increase with vulnerability while in water attunement… that attunement is like trying to kill someone with a water gun. 20% or not it won’t change anything and it won’t help our real damage attunement.
The whole class feels completly randomized with no kind of real synergy…

I laugh at someone who play as Elementalist and find this class fragile. You guys just don’t know how to play as it. I’ve faced a lot of Eles at tourneys and sPvP and I can say: Elementalists are a pain in the neck to kill. They have that invulnerable form plus healing state and a lot of CC’s. Practise more.
You can’t say that if you havn’t played elementalist.
Elem is the worst class of all by very very far.
They are the easiest class to kill because they have no stealth, only mist form as a good defensive ability (even then it suck hard), they have the lowest damage of all classes, all their abilities are either delayed, slow moving missiles or AoE (Most of the AoE are also all delayed) only fast cast and missiles are the air attunement one and they barely tickle in a full DPS build. They only have 2 roots (3 if specced deeply in the most worthless tree and it’s only 1 second root). 1 on a massive cooldown and another one on the most useless weapon. They are so easy to dodge a baby with no arms can dodge their spells.
Needless to say, after playing about 165 hours on my elementalist in both PvE, sPvP and WvWvW (And that doesn’t include past BWs). I can say I know what I’m talking about when I say it’s utter crap. PvE wise it can handle itself but PvP wise it’s a total waste to even try to play one.
Play with a staff elem support. Protect him and he will remove all theses nasty conditions off of you.
Mantras can be used while CCed, while channeling, while casting, while in global cooldown… Mantra of pain is an added DPS into a burst spec. You can remove 2 conditions at any time with another mantra. You can break stun and get stability multiple times. Healing mantra is good with the 3 mantra trait. And the trait that increase your damage while mantras are active is great. Mantra isn’t made for long fight. It’s better in short fights or in fight where you have to LoS for a couple seconds while the boss channel something (Give you the time to recharge a mantra or 2).
You want AoE? Your shatters are AoE there for it.. And you can even spec into having shatter also explode on yourself working great with the sword build.
There is 2 ways to reset your shatters skills too.
You should always have at least 2 shatters skills in CD if you are doing it right.
For thoses who say having 3 warlocks up all the time is the only good DPS, you are doing it extremely wrong then. Because staff is a support weapon with warlock being the only real DPS. You can summon a warlock or 2 for boss fight, but using your other weapons to throw in some shatters is how it work.
imo they should reduce warlock damage so people start learning how to use their weapons to deal damage themselves and not have passive NPC doing everything for them while theykittenaround complaining.
Because YES. Weapons do damage! From conditions or instant damage. Weapons hit hard.
Feels like every mesmer in here are more confused then the players they fight. jee…

I’ll say like I said in another thread…
Mesmers illusions are made to be shattered right away. Not to be kept alive in the world as long as possible.
There is a reason behind the phantasms shooting their first attack as they appear then waiting 5 seconds for the next one. Because they arn’t meant to reach the second attack. You should already have blown them up a second or 2 after spawning them.
Try using greatsword Power crit damage precision.
In WvWvW if you reach about 100% crit damage with high power you can basically wipe a group of people by pressing 2, 4 and F1.
Arn’t the T3 only rare? (Yellow names) If yes then yeah they are better.
The cultural armor is bought with gold not karma anyways. And you can’t buy weapons from Orr. While the cultural weapons cost karma.
So basically
Cultural armor = Rare armor bought with gold.
Cultural weapon = Rare weapon bought with karma.
Orr armor = Exotic armor bought with karma.
Exotic weapon??? Except from crafting I dunno where to find them.

just reduce the cost for waypoints at level 80. T_T Paying 1s80c to rez back to the waypoint 1 feet away from me is abusive. I don’t care paying for my long distance travel. But my short distance travel shouldn’t cost me more then repairing my armor… seriously…?
As far as I know, anything that is Exotic (orange name) level 80 all have the same amount of stats and there is nothing better but legendaries.
You can buy exotic level 80 from Orr. At every god temple, there is zone final events where if you win, a vendor spawn with theses items for 42k karma a piece.
Other then that, you can craft them or buy them from trading post.
Elementalist and rogues have the lowest. Guardian is the next but that’s what make them so freaking annoying. Their heal fully heals them while they tank billions of hits because they have massive thoughness with their armor as well as the possibility to be extremely tanky with just a few traits.
I prefer warrior myself because you have way more choices of weapons and possibilities then a guardian does.
The best is simply to try both in sPvP as you ain’t loosing anything from doing so and you’ll eventually see which one you prefer.
Only rangers get a permanent pet. Necro get minions. Mesmers get illusions. A couple different abilities for certains professions spawn npcs (thief spawning thieves).
You can spawn some npcs from certain runes.
Warrior get no special npc or anything outside of runes.
As for human, you get an elite skill in PvE that allows you to summons 2 hounds of ballthazar. But they ain’t good just like every other racial skills.

oh my god… the amount of people not even understanding their own classes in this thread is amazing…
Illusions are supposed to die quickly. You should not land more then 1 of their special attack when you summon them.
Taking berserker (Greatsword 4th spell) as an example… as soon as you summon him he whirlwind right away and will wait around 5 seconds for a second whirlwind. That’s why you shatter him after the whirlwind because he became useless. Combo with the 2nd spell you get 2 illusion at the same time with the berserker hitting hard and the mirror blade hitting hard then boom shatter them for massive damage. If you add to it any other illusion (IE trait that spawn an illusion on dodge rolling) you get a 3 illusion shatter in one shot. Pistol is a ranged illusion which make him less of an important target for anyone in PvP or keep them away of the monsters. Same for warlock. And both of them should be shattered about 1 or 2 seconds after spawning.
Illusions ARN’T meant to take hits.
In PvP, the best way to win with a mesmer is to litterally **** your oppenent mind with massive spawning despawning of illusion. When all your ennemy can see is your character appearing and dissapearing from every sides, it’s really hard to spot which one is the real mesmer in the end. And with decoy, it’s so easy to screw up anyone…
Mesmer ain’t harder to master then any professions btw. It’s actually quite easy to use.

So like I said at the start this spec/thread is more focused on doing damage and feeling effective at it. Something a lot of players say they are missing.
We are far from being low on damage. We get very high damage from having both direct and condition damage in our spells. There is 2 problems to our profession
1. Our survivability is so low we are either forced into having massive amount of survival stats in order to survive which gives us no damage at all or be lucky and fight a boss that doesn’t hit you all the time with unavoidable stuff.
2. All of our abilities are WAY too slow. All we have is AoE that take time to explode or deal damage over a long duration, delayed spells that take time to hit and EXTREMELY SLOW MISSILE SPEED attacks. Only the air attunement get the fast attack, and thoses attacks tickle at the most squishy high DPS spec.
In a game where moving and dodging is king, how can we even hit a target with theses kind of abilities? On top of it, we are probably the profession with the lowest amount of CC in the game. And most of them won’t hit because it’s too slow.
I couldn’t finish reading this during the extremely quick download of the game. Please make it shorter so that people do not “TLDR”.
TLDR don’t play elementalist.

Snaple you seem really angry I apologize for not stating this earlier but I am speaking more for PVE than PVP I am sorry.
It’s the same thing for PvE.
We receive way more damage from mobs and deal less damage then anyone else if we don’t use all our utilities for damage purpose.
Our only + is that even if all our AoEs are worthless, we have enough worthless AoEs to make decent AoE damage.

yes… because everyone knows elementalist is supposed to DPS only in melee and do no damage from afar…
You HAVE to use your utilities to deal damage. Mostly with arcane spells. Giving you litterally no defensive utilities on the class with the less vitality and thoughness while having to be upclose to fight. THIS MAKE NO SENSE. We are a caster class that HAS to fight in MELEE and we deal LESS damage then other CLASSES while being the most SQUISHY of all. A warrior is harder to kill in full squishy spec and gear then a full defense spec and gear elementalist!!!
Elementalist needs to be seriously looked at. They need to increase every single missile speed by at least 3x their actual speed. They need to take half the AoEs on the staff and change them to something either instant or fast missile. They need to buff up every single damage we deal by A LOT. They need to change lot of useless spells like air attunement 2nd ability for staff and dagger while changing the lightning shield on dagger main hand to something that help DPS. They need to reduce the CD on attunement swapping. They need to improve lots of our traits that are currently worthless.
Elementalist needs to be fixed.
While warrior, guardian and rogue require their deserved nerf.

So I went out then back in lion arch and my friend can now send me mails. but the dagger is still no where to be found…
So my friend made a Carrion Orihalcum imbued dagger in mail and I never received it. He tried sending me other mail with nothing in them and I can’t receive any of them while I can send him message…

because the quest is the dungeon itself. Hence why you need to do the zone final event in order to open it. Not a bug. Works like a charm.
I just wish that you could kind of avoid getting one shotted… but you can’t avoid a rifle bullet that is instant travel… You can only hope you are being lucky on your dodge. Because yes, as an elementalist, I get one shotted by a rifle with 30 in earth and full vitality gear.
It’s not fun when you die from something you cannot avoid in any ways. Add more skills to it. Like a charge that one shot you but it take 1 second to cast before charging. Or a lazer that start small to do no damage and grow into a huge lazer that deal massive damage. Not just a auto attack one shot.
Also, remove the 5-9 seconds knockdowns, fears, stuns, etc.etc.
I really enjoy a challenge. But a challenge like halo 2 legendary mode. Not like a level 10 trying to kill a level 85 mob in WoW.
In the quest Victory or death after defeating Zhaitan and returning to fort trinity, I find a special vendor saying he sell or give a weapon of some sort. But all I can do is sell on that NPC. Is that normal? Is it supposed to be like in GW1 after finishing a story line where there is a vendor giving you a weapon of your choice?
Plus, you receive 5 exotic level 80 loot bags from finishing the quest with the 1k influence and blueprints for WvWvW. The loot bags tho contained items of low levels… 29, 40, 60 and 2×79 if I remember right. Now seriously… I expect level 80 loot from level 80 exotic loot bags… No? If it’s a bug could I please get back my 5 non bugged exotic loot bags or am I screwed? Thank for answering.
