My problem with DH:
Their traps cover the entire cap point.

You need to stay in the cap point to prevent them from decapping, but at the same time you can’t stand in it because you’ll die from traps.

The way you propose it is not feasible (queue for a specific map), but the lottery should be eliminated during map selection. You get presented the options, then vote, the map with the most votes wins, period. If the vote ends in a tie: like 5v5, or 3v3v3 and one non-voter, then lottery can kick in. Preferably the selection would not be only 3 maps but all the maps currently in play in the corresponding game mode.

Yes, the fact that there is always one guy who votes for Khylo annoys me as well.

Nothing wrong with the way it is right now.

If they made it the way you are saying, all you would see would be Legacy of Foefire.

This isn’t true. I don’t like Legacy of Foefire, it’s blank and void of personality. I like my maps curvy and full of surprises.

So if one in a ten game I can get Kyhlo, you better cope with it if I won because I also deserve playing the maps I like playing.
My vote should have as much weight as other in deciding which map we will play and that’s exactly what the current system does.

Tempest also has the Harmonious Conduit Trait to support you finishing OLs. Granted: 1 Stack isn’t much but your opponents already have to use 2 controls to knock you out and if they do they don’t have them for the fight with you. And if you finish it also adds a nice damage boost.

Problem is that you also need Invigorating Torrents because of Cleansing Waters this is a meta of stacking infinite conditions to the point that even Diamond Skin isn’t enough.

Edit: I take it back sort of, ele can decap most things with tornado, but I haven’t seen that skill used aside from by engineers in a longer time than I can remember by anyone competent.

Because tornado means you can’t heal yourself. Even with the extra health, you are more susceptible to dying because of it than without.
It’s too situational when you have Rebound that give you an extra aura.

Why do people try to say ele is simple?

It’s nothing new.
That’s how it is in EVERY SINGLE GAME EVER MADE.
Everything is simple when you don’t actually play it.
That can also be related to real life where everything everyone does is simple if you don’t do it yourself.
It’s simple to develop a game. It’s simple to play piano. It’s simple to do a back handspring.

Everything is so simple to do.

Elementalist is all about adapting to the situation.

Like someone said, if you play Staff DPS, you stick to Fire as much as you can and only switch for situational abilities like CC, healing, condition cleansing, reflecting, blinds, etc.

For example on a Staff DPS, you’ll swap to air to break a bar using Gust + Static Field, if you need more and know when the break bar is coming, you go earth, use Unsteady Ground + Shockwave + Overload Earth followed by the combo from air to break even more.
Once in air, you can overload or use Glyph of Storms. If you don’t need to break anything, stick to fire for pure DPS.
If you need extra healing or to clear condition, you swap to water for Geyser and Healing Rain or you can also Water Blast spam when there is nothing to attack to provide some healing to you and your group.
You can also quick swap to earth for Magnetic Aura when a foe is using projectiles against you.
If you go to earth, you can also drop Eruption, swap back to fire and drop a Lava Font on top of the Eruption to give an Area Might combo that grant 3 mights stacks for 20 seconds to anyone around the combo.
You can also use Eruption with Static Field for a 10 seconds Area Swiftness.
If you are running with Glyph of Storms, using it with Earth will provide a pulsing blind that can be devastating to enemies (Except if those enemies are Dredge, kek).

The amount of possibilities are staggering. It’s all about knowing what to use and when.
And this is only for staff, don’t get me started on what you can do with other weapons… oh boy! It always depends on your spec too. Some spec prefer air, some prefer fire, but usually, every spec can make use of all attunements for specifics situations.

@Snaplemouton: here’s a vid about MMO economies done by Extra Credits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W39TtF14i8I

It mostly focuses on inflation and managing inflation, but there’s also a lot of other useful info about MMO economics that you seem to not yet understand. It’s good information to have regardless if the video isn’t completely on the same topic as this thread.

~EW

Less sigils/runes = less gold in game = less inflation = gold now has higher value

Removing Sigils/Runes won’t make gold have too much value and even if it does, they can always reduce the Waypoint cost by 0.1% to reduce gold value and keep a semblance of balance regarding economy.

I understand economy and I certainly understand that removing minor runes/sigils can be done. They have all the data they need. If after a month of no minor runes/sigils gold start having too much value, they can sink it back by reducing the cost on a service that sink said gold.

There is something called “Fun” that is usually the biggest problems for any MMO. Improving the quality of life of players without overdoing it is usually a great way to improve “Fun” for the majority of players.
Managing inventory in the middle of an event ISN’T FUN.

Urgent changes to make DPS ele finally viable

in Elementalist

Posted by: snaplemouton.1294

I’d argue that Ele can’t go damage because we are forced to use 2 trait lines of pure defensive just to deal with our low health pool, low armor and having no class mechanic that improve our base survivability like Death Shroud does, but meh.

If they’d change our bunker traits to be focused on offensive and improved our base survivability as a class, it would give us a reason to go full DPS without making bunker ele broken.
Also if they added an actual ranged power weapon that’d be great.
Staff is bad for DPS in PvP, I think everyone here knows why. We have no main hander for power damage.

Feels like people just don’t want this to happen because they are scared of changes. Not because they make “money” out of it or because they have a “use” for the minor sigils/runes.
Even if I suggested to make sigils and runes into collectibles so we could clear our inventory of all that crap and still have the sigils or runes, I can guarantee you people would say: “No! I enjoy having to deal with so much crap in my inventory!” Even if that would be a complete lie.
People are assuming too much things here. It won’t destroy the economy, not even one bit. The 16 copper from 99% of the minor sigils/runes won’t do kitten to the economy and the couple silvers from the other 1% of sigils/runes won’t do kitten either.
The mystic forge isn’t a secret way to make money out of sigils/runes, if you get a Superior Scholar rune out of minor runes, you better go buy a lottery ticket right away before your luck fade away.

Minor sigils/runes AREN’T VITAL to the economy, they are junk that have very little to no value with some very odd and far between exception.
Compared to the frustration they offer when clogging up your inventory and constantly having to delete them or find a vendor to get rid of them, removing them entirely (Or making them collectibles for those cry babies who still want them) would be an improvement to the game.

People disagreeing just for the sake of disagreeing. You can see people here aren’t actually doing anything with their minor sigils/runes and just throw them to the vendor.

I’m curious about this part – can you eloborate?

Do I really have to elaborate on why it’s bad design that the game reward people for leveling a character to level 10, deleting it and repeating the process non stop?

Better option.

Allow players to create a customized list of “junk.” They can add anything they want to it. Anything on that list will be sold to vendors when you hit the “Sell Junk” button.

You still have the problem of Minor runes/sigils clogging up your inventory.

I delete them because I don’t want to go find a vendor in the middle of an event.

I don’t know of anyone who ever bothered with minor runes when leveling. It’s more of an hindrance to juggle with runes before level 80 than anything.
Key runs shouldn’t even be a thing in the first place and Sigil of speed is the only minor sigil that is used for it.
Using the mystic forge for them is the only excuse to keep em in game and even that is a sad excuse. 20% chance to get a major rune/sigil out of 4 minor and 20% to get superior out of a major will take you on average 400 minor runes to get even 1 superior. And the chance to get a Superior worth a kitten (Like Scholar) is close to none.

I am spending more time in my bags than actually playing the game. Why? Because you give us so much loot you’d make the Borderlands game designers jealous.

So here’s a simple suggestion that would greatly improve QoL…
Remove Minor runes/sigils from the game entirely.
They are utterly useless, nobody use them and their vendor value makes it so that discarding them entirely is more money effective than selling them because the time you’ll save from having to go to a vendor every time you fill your bags is worth more than those runes/sigils.

Buffing Cloak and Dagger wouldn’t be a good thing. A stealth without any real CD is already strong enough. There need to be counters to it and that counter is reveal.
Last I check, the other classes can’t spam their reveal because they have a CD on it.
Dagger #4 isn’t meant to deal damage. It’s meant to cripple a foe at range.
And you didn’t mention #3, which is the most important part of D/D.

D/P is meant for power damage.
D/D is meant for condition damage.

Try this if you want to play D/D.

You miss understood me:) I wasn’t talking about giving bigger health pool to DH and thief. I just said that they kill people with similar health pools because they have better sustain by the design and can do their thing with pure dps amulets.

I see. Still, it’s not a matter of traits and abilities. We have what it take to survive. What we don’t have is a fundamental class mechanic that allow us to survive in PvP without those said traits and abilities.

Not only that but…
We’re glass cannon without any ranged capabilities…
Staff is meant for PvE, Scepter is garbage and we have no Power ranged single hander.
When it comes to melee, Dagger is unreliable as F with tiny hit box compared to other melee weapons for other classes that has huge cleave.
All of this is exacerbated by the fact we have cloth and the lowest health pool in the game.
A melee glass cannon that can’t even connect its attacks.

I would like that but it won’t happen. Bigger health pool would impact pve and wvw to much and devs don’t like that. If it would happen we would have elementalist only raids for example. We need just more active selfish sustain skills and traits. Good thief and DH do their job with just a little more health.

Thieves have medium armor and mobility, DH got heavy armor and are pretty much passively tanky.
Can’t compare apples and oranges.
They don’t need the extra health because their class feature provide them with the base they need to be sturdy or hard to hit.

Unique Aura Behaviors?

snaplemouton.1294

Isn’t it just annoying knowing that an elite specialization gets a much better version of an aura from a -now- very weak weapon. (#BuffStaff.)

Staff is already the top weapon for anything PvE related and it’s king for almost any build in Stronghold sPvP because it can crush guards and kill a trebuchet in one cast even in a full support build.

There is also one thing that Magnetic Aura on staff has that Sand Squall doesn’t. Instantaneousness. This means a lot in PvP. It can mean 2 or 3 extra bullets or arrow from those volley or it may mean you’ll manage to reflect that 15k warrior bullet before it hits you.
And there is also one other thing it does. And this is the most important part…
It allows you to cast it WHILE you are channeling. You can channel Overload earth and apply it or cast a Meteor Shower, swap to earth and cast Magnetic Aura, without interrupting the Meteor Shower.

Magnetic Aura on staff is perfectly fine, the problem with Staff is that it rely too much on ground AE to deal its damage and that is unreliable against players.

That’s a hard one to mix together. Staff is just bad for damage on any moving target (Which is 99% of sPvP). You can’t lock down someone inside your ground AE and can only rely on your overloads to do damage.
If you want damage, you should use Scepter + Focus.

For staff, I personally use: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAGn0XCNYiFOAcYilNAb4BEAKgErgUwIwdv+XPsA-TJxZABGu/AmPAAAKD02FAAA

I do not have Heart of Thorns (yet), so I don’t have access to Scrapper.

This being said, I’m having problems against Necromancers in PvP, mostly the ones with Reaper Shroud. I can’t seem to get through their Shroud and some of them, I can’t even manage to cleanse most of their conditions because of how quickly they reapply them. Sometimes, ending up dying inside my Self-Regulating Defenses trait because of all the conditions.

I’m willing to change my spec around, but I’d like to stick with a condition build.
I also do not wish to use Elixir X, I know the Toss Elixir X can completely deny a Necromancer Shroud, but I find that Elixir X is utter garbage compared to Supply Crate.

I thought about using Flamethrower Kit for the tool belt, Napalm wall and Air Blast, but currently, I find that Elixir UCS are just too good with the traits I picked. Also thought about picking Rocket Boots but for the same reason as before, Elixirs just feel much better.

Only other class I have issue with are mesmers focusing on stealth and clones but I usually break even against them. (<3 Med Pack Drop)

I have played Necromancer a bit but not enough to know their builds and such.

Talking about the Self-Regulating Defenses trait in Tier-2 Alchemy as well as the Resistance Boon that prevent conditions effects while the boon last.
Please? Right now, Tier 2 Alchemy Traits feels very underwhelming.
The first and third traits are specific to kits.
The second trait, Self-Regulating Defenses, is a two-edged sword that most likely will screw you over more than it will save you.

The Elixir S apply itself almost always at the worst possible moment, when you are casting a heal, often ending up dying inside of the Elixir S because of conditions.
It feel punishing to take the trait and I personally even considered using one of the other two trait even if I don’t use a kit in my build just so I don’t get screwed by something I can’t control.

Would it be too much to add a 3 seconds Resistance Boon to the trait? Or 2.5 seconds Resistance with a 0.5 second reduction on the Elixir S if it’s too powerful?

I’m talking about the Hero Point found on Laughing Gull Island in Bloodtide Coast. The Hero Point is inside a pirate compound that can only be accessed during the meta-event The Campaign Against Taidha Covington.
If you try to get inside the compound outside of that 15 minutes window, you get instantly teleported out.

Very frustrating to say the least to have to keep track of an event just to be able to complete a zone when every other zones didn’t require that.

Snaplemouton, you stated earlier that you have no clue what the thief did to you.

This last post you say you have played all classes in spvp to learn everything they can do.

How is it that you don’t know what this thief is doing to you but you claim to know everything about all classes and to be an experienced player?

Clearly one of your statements is a lie. I suggest you revisit the thief.

If you downed the thief in stealth and didn’t keep him down. That’s your own fault. L2p issue there. I down thieves all the time in stealth and maybe 1/1000 they can elude me, if that.

I’m not trying to be mean but you come here posting like thieves are this mystical class that brings death to anything they look at it and then on the other hand you tell us you are an experienced and great player. You are contradicting yourself.

My original assessment stands. You are either a noob or pve noob or you are trolling us.

First of all, I didn’t know what he did to me because it was always coming from stealth.
Aside from the obvious like poison AE from shortbow, blink shot, CND, blind on stealth trait, heartseeker, Heal that stealth, roll for initiative, AE stealth utility, spin to win ult. The rest all came from stealth so I don’t know what the hell he was shooting at me.
Maybe you should learn how to read because I stated all of thoses in my posts.
Secondly, I clearly said that the thief never showed in my screen from the time he went stealth and when he appeared with 95% downed health healing straight in front of me. It’s either a bug or I missed something of what was going on. And I can hardly believe I missed something when he appeared out of the blues in an open area 5 feet from a capture point where I’ve been looking at for the past 10 seconds.

I never said thieves are a mythical class that kill everything they touch. Once again, go learn to read because I clearly said I roll thieves and only good one in CND spec give me trouble on my necro.

Now stop trying to dissect everything I say to misinterpret it into what you want it to be. You are not providing anything useful to the thread and merely trying to kitten me off, or to put it in your words, you are trolling.

When should I use DS #1?

in Necromancer

Posted by: snaplemouton.1294

snaplemouton.1294

As a power necro I average between 3.6k and 4.4k crit in DS on regular Orr mobs, and anywhere from 2k to 7k in WvW depending on target. That’s without might etc.

Piercing is good, but I’m using the sustain talent currently as with the new patch 1% LF is worth a lot more than it was.

In zerker necro? Because even with 7k highest hit, the cast speed drop down the DPS by a massive amount. I’ve hit 6k’s fireballs with my zerker elem and I can fire twice faster at a high missile speed with passive splash damage. So to me, DS #1 still feels pretty underwhelming aside from cannon shooting in WvWvW. And even then…

I’ll go try out a full Soul Reaping zerker build when I get the chance to compare.

Zerker Necros are way more survivable than zerker Eles in WvW. If a thief jumps you, pop DS and go to town on him (whereas the Ele has to hope there’s an allied tower within Mist Form + Vapor Form range). And Life Blast and Fireball have roughly the same cast time, nor are their missile speeds all that different from each other. I believe LB is homing, as well.

I actually use a Knights/Zerker mix for my Necro and I love it. I’m a beast in duels, still output massive damage and CC in zerg fights, am reasonably difficult to kill considering how much damage I’m specced for (careful use of DS, Flesh Worm, and Plague really help with this), and I have a few ways in which I can specifically screw over my enemies that the Ele doesn’t have.

Don’t think of the Necro and the Ele simply in terms of who has better damage. Think about what they can do differently and which benefits each brings to the table.

I’m sorry, but elementalist are far better as terms of survival, even in zerker gear…
Necro only real defense aside from worm port is DS and it’s highly unreliable.
Elementalist, even with low vitality, got the biggest toolkit in the game with it’s 20 weapon skills and super defensive utilities. And aside from stealth, you couldn’t ask for more ways to get out of danger.

And Axe on a necro is downright terrible. I have yet to see a more useless weapon in the game then Necro’s axe.

When should I use DS #1?

HEALING SIGNET!!! Time to go all signets and kill some rabbits.

Hey! Don’t mock the signets.
I leveled my warrior from 30 to 50 using a 95% crit chance full signet build.

Cleansing fire debug?

Yes. Bundles now use your stats, and work with sigils and everything.

Lightning Hammer is still probably really bad in PvP formats, however. It’s more of a PvE thing.

Also, remember that Lightning Flash no longer removes stun either.

Ugh, I really should sit down and read every patch notes then.
Still I prefer Lightning Flash to Cleansing Fire. In such a fast paced game, switching position in the blink of an eye can mess up the enemy player pretty hard.

As for Lightning hammer, I’ll sure as hell give it a try next time get the chance if they finally fixed the bundles.

Look at the Soul Reaping tree… Vital Persistence, Unyielding Blast, Deathly Perception. Hits like a truck if you spec for it, but if you are just another condition damage based necro it won’t do much for you.

And how much is a truck?
Because even with piercing, I fail to see how the very slow attack speed and missile speed can be overcomed by huge damage.

So... how can I beat CND with a necro?

My guess is that he played a bit after the release and went back to WoW and just started playing again.(based on post history)

I’ve played for 2 months after release and played the whole open beta and pre-release. I had 3 level 80s by the time I stopped and I played all classes in PvP more then enough to know every abilities and nearly every traits.
A lot have changed since then so I’m still trying to catch up with what I missed.
And no I havn’t returned to WoW.
WoW died to me with the release of cataclysm and was only really good in burning crusade.

My guess is that the one calling me troll is having trouble against necro and consider me a troll for asking advice on how to fight a thief with one.

I am far from being a bad player. If I’m asking for advice on my necro it’s because necro isn’t my main. It’s the fifth on my list. So as much as I’d love to be super pro with everything I touch, it’s not possible. So I ask for advice because I’m looking to become better?
