People seem to like saying that Mesmer is too weak (compared to other classes).
I am going to go on a limb here and say that you just have to be building wrong. There are videos of WvW, PvP and PvE Mesmers who are AoE-ing consistently for upwarks 8k+.
I myself am sitting at level 30 and am a powerhouse in PvE with Sword/Sword, using Mirror Images for utility and focusing on Mind Wrack casting.
Are people NOT using Shatter skills? Because they are the Mesmer bread and butter. As well as the DPS illusions (such as Phantasmal Swordsman).
The patch notes say that Phantasmal Swordsman (off-sword) had its cooldown increased to 18 seconds. In game, however, the cooldown is 20 seconds.
Not a huge deal if its just a typo in patch notes. However, if it is suppose to be 18 seconds, would be nice to have it fixed.
Ah-ha! That is much better than the seemingly “not engaged in combat” that I thought it meant.
Thank you for your response!
I love my mesmer too, but like you, I’ve given up on pve. Some dragon fights I can spend the entire fight nuking the dragon in level 80 endgame gear with green gems, and I’ll get bronze and no chest. That’s extremely disheartening.
I’m glad we’re good in pvp — that’s what I enjoy anyway — but it’s too bad that our DPS is so bad against large “boss” mobs in both DEs and in dungeons. I feel kind of bad letting my team carry me in dungeons when I could be a second elementalist or something more useful.
Were you in those fights from the start?
There are time frame perimeters that determine whether or not you can get a chest from a world boss.
Also, I have a really crappy processor so when I get around large groups of people, I go from a nice 50-60 FPS to a grand 3-8 FPS. This makes it impossible for me to be on front lines.
So in world events I tend to sit back and fight the lesser mobs/objectives while others bum rush the dragon.
Doing this I get gold without ever even attacking the dragon.
Wastrel’s Punishment trait say you deal 5% more damage to “Inactive foes”.
What exactly does an “inactive foe” refer to?
This is the exact reason why I suggestions Map Completion markers on the world map for each zone
Make a new suggestion post! Mine did not get much attention. :\
The game is little over a month old.
There will be plenty of new skills in the future. Either sit tight, play and wait; or go play something else until the game is older and has what you want.
Cannot wait for Dervish and Paragons!
Your Mount idea is lovely! I would love that system so much more than a typical Call/Dismiss system seen in former MMORPGs.
Also, I really enjoy your Waypoint idea.
Yes, yes and yes!
I refuse to play my Ranger again until I can tame a Dolyak!
this has no place in GW
What they said.
The LAST thing GW2 needs is for the League of Legends community to swarm us in masses.
Team Hylek!!
I want to be a frog SOOO bad!
You think Thief is boring? And Ranger is fun?
You have hit your head.
On top of that, clones die from only a few hits.
Hahahaha!
Yes, a “few” hits. Meaning 12,000+ damage. Meaning a lot of my skills, meaning I have nothing left to hit the real one with meaning he is going to now summon more clones.
But it would be far easier to just list each professions level.
Good suggestion, Stahn.
+1
Exactly. Right now I have at least 4 areas sitting at 99%, waiting for Skill Challenges to either work or not be invisible/inside the terrain. At 95% world completion, I will never remember what all I am missing.
Maybe your Charr has carpal tunnel or something. My Charr wields his greatsword just fine.
Pro tip: Run.
Wolves hunt in packs anyway.
STRUCTURED PvP is not part of the regular gameplay. It is an optional mode for people seeking more straight forward, competitive gameplay.
No, you should not get any PvE benefits for this mode.
I think it would be very convenient if there was a marker next to each area’s name that indicated you have completed the zone 100% (similar to vanquishing in GW1).
If you going to keep it, I have a nice suggestion.
Every other week, change the position of the “Start” and “Delete” button in character select menu. And with no “Are you sure”… :-)
…Wut? This guy has hit his head.
I agree with OP. I would prefer these items be placed in mail. Renown rewards are placed in mail, so why not place these — items acquired partially by completing Renown Hearts — there as well?
I don’t like having to hold down my right mouse button all the time. And many people (my wife for example) that could be more skilled than they are are less skilled because they don’t even try to play that way — they just move around with and only turn the camera when necessary.
If they dont even try to move the camera, then they definitely would not be “more skilled” with this mod. Camera control is a basic concept that is easy to learn and master. Also it requires players to be quicker to react, thus making you a more skilled player.
This mod is just an easy mode for lazy people.
Arena Net has already said this mod is illegal and they will not be implementing it. You should just delete this post.
Your statement and suggestion are both very ignorant, actually.

Allow out of combat weapon swap. If nothing else, it would balance out the number of inventory slots Ele’s/Engi’s get.
Ok. Then what about the other classes? Now, Ele’s get 20 skills per weapon and Engineers get afk turrets and/or 15 weapon skills if they are using tool kits — AND they both have the “convenience” of “more inventory space”. What do the rest of us get in return?
That doesn’t change the fact that every other class has more inventory space and doesn’t get disorganized while weapon-swapping.
Wut?
This is such an ignorant statement. Elementalists are fine without weapon swap, even outside of battle. If you have so many weapons that its penalizing your inventory space, that’s your own fault. Buy bags, buy slots — just stop complaining.
If you take the money, ANet might see that as you bought gold from a gold seller and ban your account. Even though it is only 1c. Its probably why the gold sellers started adding 1c to them.
Well, this is the most ignorant thing I have read all day.
Why would a goldseller TRY to get you banned? You are what they want — a customer. They started placing copper so the mail lingers longer. You are not going to get banned for taking 1 copper from a mail to delete it. Anet isn’t kitten
The prices for both of these things are fine. The people who usually complain about waypoint prices are level 80 — who do not farm, which is what you should be doing at 80 anyway.
And like Fildydarie said, wait for a rez. If you die, chances are someone sees you and is headed to your direction. Most people instantly waypoint and do not let kind strangers aid them.
Also, you can always ask for a rez in map chat. There are plenty of ways to revive without paying for a waypoint.
No.
A marriage feature would be the end of the game.
Besides, its not like its hard to get the WvW achievement. Just go to the battlegrounds, follow a zerg, use 1 aoe and leave. Done. Monthly acquired.
So much typing and you’ve already shot your argument to pieces in the first sentence.
Yes, Sharpe, YOU sure did.
Its not just elementalist, nearly no one can deal with a thief.
Low level cap?
The thing about leveling in Guild Wars 2 is that it is balanced from 1-80.
The leveling curve is nearly nonexistent.
By lowering the level cap it becomes increasing more difficult to balance skill, gear, items, etc acquisition.
The 80 cap is a sweet spot. It works just fine.
You say “arias” (I believe you mean ‘areas’) are not interesting pre-80. One, that is completely false. Two, when you hit 80, there is still a ton of places to go, explorer and have fun in.
Finally, you say the game feels repetitive.
…This is an MMORPG. As with every other MMORPG that has ever been made..there is a limited number of things to do.
Thankfully, Arena Net has made those things far more interesting, fun and stress free than any other game, ever.
Elementalist 10k base
Necro 18k baseErr, you what?!
Because Necro’s utility skills usually give them debuffs. Like making them bleed, or poisoning them, or weakening them or absorbing conditions off allies.
They NEED a high HP pool to be effective.
Elementalist however, are pure damage output with the lowest Heal Skill cooldowns in the game. Most classes heals are 25-40 seconds. Elementalists heal skills are 15/15/20 seconds.
Roll a necro.
heh.. yeah that would work
Have you seen how broken that profession is?Actually I haven’t played one yet, but I keep hearing everyone cheer for their high base health and lifesteal.
High base health, check.
Lifesteal, non-existant.
Necros do have a trait set that gives them lifesteal. However, it does not work. Almost at all. At level 80 you steal 25 hp per hit. When you have 25,000HP and take around 4,000-8,000 damage a hit…well, I think you can guess how helpful that is.
Necros are probably the most bugged class at the moment with over 100 identified bugs that reduce the Necros performance to a drastic low.
I cant tell if you are trolling or not….
If you arent;
You are technically always in a party with everyone around you. The location you are in has a level set to it. If you are above that level then your stats are scaled down to suite the level of the area. As far as the actual Party feature, you only need it to form a dungeon group or to keep track of each others HP and location more effectively.
I’m sure the wiki has more details that you would find helpful.
The answer is no. You cannot become a dedicated healer.
At least not in the way you are asking.
If you want to build a character and focus on support/heals then you may. However, you will never be able to single handedly keep your party healed. Most of that burden lies on the other players themselves, by knowing what heals they have available and when to use them.
Healing that affects allies is meant to merely mitigate damage.
If you spec full magic find, you wouldn’t be too powerful correct? So if I do this, will mobs be too difficult in open pve? I’m sure using a full magic find would be horrible in dungeons, but I would use it to farm more open pve events and such.
Also, is putting the money into this gear worth it? I’m just not sure if I want to spend all of my money on the runes along with the explorer’s rare lvl 80 set.
If you use magic find gear vs other sets, you are only missing out on one individual stat. So, no, magic find gear is not awful for dungeons. But dungeons are awful for farming, so dont go there if you want to make money/get items.
Also you may purchase Magic Find Boosters from the Gem Store for another 50%
What is your goal with this game/class decision? Do you just want to hit hard? Or do you want to enjoy the character you are playing?
My advice; Play the class that is more FUN to you.
In most instances, you can make all classes hit for about the same damage (except for thieves. No one else can pull off a 2 hit kill in PvP), but, some times, in different ways.
I have played a Guardian since the very first minute the game launched on headstart weekend. I was level 80 within 3 days. I have played nearly 400 hours of GW2 and about 250 hours on my Guardian alone. I am STILL discovering builds with it for numerous effects.
Like Eleint said, a good way to test is in Heart of the Mists. But dont cut a class short for a damage output. You wont know whats right for you until you get out there and try it out.
1. I dont have time to kill every single thing I walk back when I am trying to get to a specific location.
2. If that person cant handle one mob, or run away, they probably are not adequetely prepared for the zone they are in and should go to an area they can handle.
Meh, people complaining about racial elites strenght.. its an RACIAL skill… or as arenanet has always said it.. its mostly cosmetic and cool looking… its not supposed to be better then the professions elite skill
even though engineers elite skills suck so much that snow leopard actually is an improvement :S
Even if any of this was true, the phrase “Supposed to be” stands out like a sore thumb.
Thats the whole point. Every other race actually has USEFUL racials. Norns do not.
Also, Engineers elite skills are great.
