Instead of giving points based on the number of structures controled, give points base on the ranking of the three servers.

The server that has the highest control gets 3 points. The second server gets 2 and the last gets 1. That way, a server that completes a 100% map control will get a somewhat significant lead in score but a LOT more reasonable than currently. In essence, getting more territory control will give you a buffer zone before you start dropping in rank instead of a huge lead in score.

street fighter 4, when the new chars came out (forget ther name, two kids) everyone cried OP, everyone played them, tourneys were filled with them. did they nerf them? no, few months went by, counters were found, tricks were learned, they were overcome, diversity was restored.

Yun was cleary OP, his brother Yang was more or less balanced. The tournaments for that period were getting to the point you’d get like half Yun players, and the rest was chars that were good against Yun XD And then, they got nerfed. Hard. Yun is more or less balanced now but the poor Yang got caught in the nerf storm too and is counted as very overnerfed.

im lv 80 wearing shield full exotics but this one …….

Fuul exotics doesn’t account to much when you use a power/precision/crit power set. If there’s no thoughness in it, you’re going to hurt.

Why would VS make any effort? They’ll just get everything back with the night crew and some huge score lead on top of it. Heck, at this point they could all desert 24/24 the WvWvW maps and it would probably be impossible to close the gap :o

Such no suspense games at the end of the “season” is the reason the game needs some mechanics to allow the underdogs to return a situation no matter how dire the situation is.

Well, Venom Share build works practically 100% out of our utility skills so any weapon you like works :p

I’d say, try with Sword/Pistol because those two weapons combined are the most well rounded of all. You got 4 skills all useful : teleport + teleport back and condition cure and stun break, stun + high damage and evade, ranged instant cast interrupt, AoE blind zone.

Vshare isn’t a build focused on condition damage really. Venom isn’t exactly a strong damage skill. The life drain on apply and the reduced heal effectiveness are the most important part.

Enough of this stuff. ANet has already responded to this QQ. It’s not going to change. Persistent world PvP requires that these types of things are possible. Things aren’t ever going to be fair all the time in WvW. If you want fair, sPvP is over there >>>>

I would like to know the reason behind the necessity for players to drag their crafting materials from the collection bank to the players’ active inventory bag. It feels like an unnecessary step and it limits the amount of recipes that can be discovered to whatever space the inventory is left. Why don’t look for whatever materials from the collection bank, the actual inventory bank and the inventory itself that can be used for discovery so it saves a lot of time on crafting? So this is my suggestion. I know the developers have their reasons for doing this but I’d hope that you can take this into consideration so that the game can be further improved

You post must have been going through a time distortion somewhere. The crafting AND discovery works from the player bank and collectible space since a couple days already.

How about a recipe book that takes up 1 slot in the inventory so I don’t have to go to the crafting station to know what I need when I am in the field?

You mean, like going in the Hero panel to the crafting tab and looking there?

It seems ArenaNet have a time machine somewhere to implement the user demanded features before they ask for them in the first place.

By all means,let’s ALL spread around correctly shall we ?

Shall we start with the NA community,so that some of the lower pop servers are evened out some ?

The Oceanic community looks pretty spread out to me,there is only so many of us to go around.

Perhaps the Aussies should start a Mercenary Guild and hire out to the highest bidder and grant their loyalties to no one server ? Maybe Anet could make it possible with the Guesting system. =P

Actually the real problem isn’t servers like SoS that can only night cap, its the ones that can hold their own during prime time and then night cap.

The servers that can only night cap are actually more of an issue. It kinda means that during the night, the game isn’t interesting cause of heavy imbalance. And during the prime time, the game isn’t interesting either because of the imbalance on the other direction. As a result, the game isn’t interesting at any point in time and you get the added frustration of 2/3 of the players losing all upgrades overnight.

Server ranking SHOULD take into account timezones because the ranking shouldn’t be a tool for servers to brag to each other but a tool to make the fights as competitive and balanced as possible at all times if possible, or at least for the majority of players.

Sorry, but what is “spread around correctly”? Are there some sort of rules on how many Oceanics should be on each server that I should know about? I know of a sizable Oceanic presence on at least 8 US servers. If thats not enough for you then I’m sorry but there simply isn’t enough of us to go around.

Don’t you want to have meaningful WvWvW? I know an important component to get that is to actually have an opposition on your map. Spread around correctly means spread around in a way that ensures as best as possible everyone will always get a close to equal opposition in WvWvW at all time.

Is that so unreasonable to ask?

Wait, so now its all the off peak players’ fault?

When those off peak players come into the game and declare : “we don’t care for WvWvW balance, we want all to play on the same server”, yeah it is.

Now, if you tell me you are actually spread around correctly and the declaration I was replying to is just the work of a lunatic, well there isn’t much more to say. Balance isn’t something entirely in the hands of a small groups of players. Imbalance has multiple causes though.

WvWvW requires you to have some opposition to be PvP. If you don’t want to make sure there IS some opposition, I think you shouldn’t be allowed to access that PvP yeah.

Would you see an issue if ArenaNet massively boosted the NPC guards power and number when a world is getting very low on population, and inversely if they weakened a world NPC guards when it owns most of the map?

Well, the recipe gives you some rather expensive mats when it doesn’t proc mystic clovers isn’t it? Mats you’ll need a LOOOOT off to do the two crafting oriented gifts so it’s hardly wasted I’d say.

Do you know why in every MMO for a long time the Oceanic community gets together to designate unofficial Oceanic servers? Its because we have a smaller playerbase so we consolidate into fewer servers to ensure we have people to play with.

Have you ever played on an MMO server with a low population? That is what it’d be like for Oceanics and other offpeak players if you forced us to spread out too thinly across all servers. Its a great idea for you but it completely bites for us.

Are you saying that no matter what happens, Oceanic players will NOT make any attempt at balancing and they shouldn’t be penalized for it?

There’s two things that happen if you all regroup without restriction in a single server :
- the server you chose will become uninteresting to fight against thus whine will ensue
- you will not even get real WvWvW while you play because there’s no opposition

As a result, I see your post as a population group that doesn’t want to make efforts to have a fair PvP environments and instead gets allowed to break the fun for all the other players while doing something that cannot even be called PvP in the first place.

Dynamic population limit will fix the unfairness of PvP. But will also leave some people out of PvP who would be in otherwise. (though it really isn’t PvP when you are just steamrolling everything, without any resistance.)

Just like queues keep people from ultra full servers out of WvWvW? Hmm, maybe it would be fair after all.

Queues kinda force prime time players to spread across all the servers. There’s no such mechanic for the night time players. Why?

As you can see, servers who are unable to mount an effective defence 24/7 will eventually drop in rankings.

Actually, the system has a good chance to consider a server strong in prime time with not night presence and a server weak in prime time with string night presence to be the same level. And so to match them again and again in a situation where both prime time and night time game is unbalanced in a way or another.

IE, the system Will Fail.

Uhgg more of these whiny threads asking for help and safety nets, sung by the same old casual gamers who obviously never bothred to research what wvwvw is about. Gw2 wvw is not supposed to be fair and balanced. You sink or swim, sh$$ or get off the pot.

This is a big reason games fail, when devs start listening to the ”have nots” and start cheapening the original design. You dont get breaks here, its competitve….people take these matches seriously,.stick to spvp if u want carebear pvp an st fu already

Super Street Fighter IV is competitive and it has the Ultra bar which charges when you get hit. It’s essential a super attack given to the player that loses to help him turn back the situation to his advantage.

The only real downside I can concede is gold costs for repairs and keep upgrades. Since I don’t only WvW, I get a steady income from world events and haven’t felt the costs were prohibitive.

As for balance its all about organization and participation. Should they add a buff to the loosing team they would conquer objectives relying on the buff more than strategy. Defending against a mindless buffed enemy zerg wouldn’t be appealing or fair. And then those with the buff would get pushed back quickly once the buff is removed (either by taking objectives if its point based, or by people joining if its pop based).

Again, it comes down to organisation and participation. Arena net could either work on the queue system, or people could learn to join forces with the third server (which they never do btw) or they can get organised before entering WvW.

Just a side question, but how many of you have seen a commander in WvW?

You don’t understand well the point of such loser buff. You give them hope, you give them fun even if short lived. Still, you should not really give them victory when it happens because then losing is more effective than winning. The goal of such system is to ensure the losing side doesn’t lose hope and desert because this is NOT what you want. Whatever lead in score you got during the time you had full control isn’t lost either.

About repair costs, I think it’s another venue to consider. When a side is losing somewhat, any player that was really participating in WvWvW fights for some time would get access to free repairs in those maps. You might even see PvE players join up and help their server a moment just to get that freebie, thus attracting some people to try again and giving you more PvP.

That’s why we need counter measures for such situations. One example is the full map dominance for a server. When that happens, it becomes very hard to push back. So we can try stuff like :

- Stacking Revenge of the Mists buff. 100% more damage to siege structures (door, walls and siege equipment) per stack. 10% less damage from players per stack and 10% more damage dealt to players pet stack. 10% less resource cost to build and repair items per stack. You gain one stack per hour once your map control falls under 10%. Stacks cap at 1 when under 10% control, 2 at 8%, 3 at 4%, 4 at 2% and 5 at 0%. Extra stacks decay at the rate of one per hour. Player size is visually scaled a little based on stack amount.

- For total score advantage, we can work based on the amount of points one can expect to win per day when you do Great. Which I’d define as definitively owning the map but not that much. Which can be seen as owning 80% of the map since if you go farther than that, it would fall into the previous mechanic mentioned. So, once a side gets a total score lead from the second that would be too high to counter in a day if the second suddenly controlled 80% of the map for a whole day, the winning side will get a “Weariness of the Mist” debuff. The effect should be a lot more subtle than the revenge one so something like a 20% higher resource cost for all buildings per stack could work. Same trick as before, for each “expected cap of reasonable points per day” advantage at the score, the debuff gets a new stack and those stacks take a full day to expire once the server goes under a threshold.

Once again, such mechanics aren’t here to make the winner lose. We don’t exactly want a Mario Kart blue turtle shell power up so numbers might need some tweaking. The Revenge buff is harsh but it only servers to undo the worse case of full map dominance. It won’t give back all the points lost during the time it was going on. The Weariness is a tool used to make it harder and harder to increase a lead and nothing more. Hopefully, the last days of a cycle will see the harshest fights for dominance because every server will think it still has a chance of victory instead of just giving up all hope and doing pure PvE until the reset.

this is actually called “snowball mechanics”.
“slippery slope” is where something creeps little by little untill it passes a point that would have never been accepted back when it 1st started slipping, but is now, because it’s only slightly worse then it’s last state and doesnt seem like a big problem.

There was little reason to do it when WvWvW was reset every day. But for week long and two week long games, there is no excuse not to include such kind of rules.

There’s an issue both for when a side controls most of the map making it extremely difficult capping back the forts, and for when a side gets a big lead.

Slippery slope rules are bad for games that stretch for so long. In this case, there’s two factors in place :

- the team that gets more forts to the point of total map dominance makes it hard for the other team to even get out. In particular, it means this team got all orbs and placed them in fully upgraded forts while the opposing teams need to fight and hold ground in completely unupgraded forts they retook.

- a big score lead advantage causes players to quit, which only serves to deepen the score lead to the point it’s then completely impossible to overturn. And even if we forget the scoring issue, the quitting causes a particular day to be hopeless.

This isn’t some tricky new behaviors never seen before. I’m amazed that game devs still dare release a game without counter measures to this day, especially one that planned two week long fights. The outmanned buff is a joke btw. Although a nice idea by itself, it needs more.

@Smackmybird: I’m not talking about that. I meant the 5 minutes of time until the tournament begins after both teams are already on the field.
I really don’t get why it’s set that high. 3 minutes would be enough to relog and rethink tactics (which are in my opinion also more dependent on the map than the enemies build).

If everyone presses ready, you get a 0 wait time.

For groups of two players, it is so easy to switch team to get with the other as soon as there room :/ Then the teams are shuffled between maps but while the other players load there’s always spots in one team or another to switch back.

Free tournaments are here to learn about tPvP. Forcing people to grind the sPvP zerg based 8v8 with 0 coordination possible for 20 levels to even participate is the MOST stupid idea ever posted in this forums.

Night capping in DAoC was so fine one of the French servers top guilds in all three factions made a pact not to take the orbs outside of some predetermined prime time slots

One doesn’t have to wonder much that people would complain about such mechanics if somehow, most of the players in a MMO server decided by themselves to self regulate it’s usage for what they believed was the greater good.

The 5v5 servers can be reached through the other PvP NPC on the right side of the map, near the Mystic Forge.

If you want to do tournaments, yeah.

What’s the problem? The maps are the same except it’s missing the underwater one. You don’t need to worry too much about unbalanced teams and the 5v5 format is better than 8v8 in this map size.

HOw are you supposed to plan your ‘interrupt, KD, KB, if you can’t see the person? Sorry, I think everyone and everything should be visible if they are trying to stomp you. Stealthing before a stomp is highly overpowered.

If the thief is half a breath from dying himself, I want to down him as well, and I can’t. This is BS

How do you interrupt someone that used Stability before the stomp? You cannot either. Thief got absolutely no Stability buffs except on the dagger tornado elite and you cannot stomp or rez anyone in that state.

Risen Pirates that “Steal health” seem to steal your health fine through evade, and it hurts a lot. Use the skill 3 against them instead.

I’d like to chime in if I may. I think the problem is that there is no middle ground. Right now you either go to sPvP for casual play or Tournament. The problem with tournament is that the few times I’ve tried it, it’s always my group of totally random people against a fully organized guild.

You do understand that if you allow too easily for groups to play together in sPvP mode, you’ll get the same result there you got in tournament right?

It’s in a pvp zone, the traps are there for a reason, and anything else is fair game as well. It’s really no different from people camping just behind the waterfall in the borderlands puzzles.

There are ways to do it that make it right. Making it so that you need a zerg to remove a single player isn’t exactly right. If you want to camp the place, I’m fine with it. But only if you show some real PvP skills, not hiding behind one hit kill traps or impossible to do jumps due to combat snare effect.

I really think the constant threat of other players screwing you and having to go back to the beginning, and the knowledge that you will be able to get revenge on your enemies and do the same if you get to the end is what makes the puzzle so thrilling.

I can see them removing the ability to put down ballistas, just because there is literally nothing that the other servers can do about them given the landscape. But everything else should be fair game.

The puzzle is not meant to be easy, and the rewards are nice. It’s also completely optional…so if you can’t get past the other server in there, you can just leave and do something else. You can probably get enough gold or badges to just get whatever siege weapon you wanted without too much difficulty…and there are THREE other WvW jumping puzzles you can do as well.

In addition, it’s really the only thing in the game that i think can be considered a “competitive dungeon” and I really hope it’s left the way it is for players that enjoy it. I constantly go to the Eternal puzzle just because I like the high stakes experience it offers.

And if you were wondering, yes, I have camped traps and such and prevented other players from getting through for fairly long periods of time, and I’m not ashamed of this at all..it’s part of the game. In each case though, they eventually get me by pulling me down with something, or using a skill like Ride the Lightning to get to me before I can knock them off.

Not everyone has pulls and the like. In fact only necro and thief have them. Also, the simple notion of jumping puzzle along the in combat snare don’t mix well together. All in all, it’s too easy to prevent progression through the puzzle despite very unfavorable numbers because of all that.

Ganking people on the way is part of the deal but the odds are far too much stacked in favor of the player before you. I don’t think the plan was to have people camp that place constantly instead of going for the loot at the end and having some fun with the people on the way. Yet that’s obviously what happens.

They should never have put the trap triggers after the jumping part but before. That or they should add instant kill trap triggers somewhere before the jumping part that targets the people near the current trap commands.

And remove the stupid move speed reduction in combat in those parts.

Once again, like almost everybody from Vizunah said, we are dedicated WvW players : most people from my guild just afk while being on queue to enter WvW and nothing else because they are only there for the WvW. We all come from DAOC and we have been expecting the next DAOC for about 6 years now. So we want to have nice fights as much as you do, but what should we do? Just stop playing or ask our members to stop taking over structures?

I feel for you guys, but don’t blame us for your internal problems because we can’t do a thing about it.

You should strive to balance server populations. Putting every player that loves WvWvW in the same side will not lead them to meaningful and interesting WvWvW. There’s a reason there’s population caps in 3W maps. It works as a both a technical limitation and as a balancing factor. The fact this balancing factor fails because one server or two got all the night time players available and night time play got such a disproportionate effect in the end score result is an issue the players could solve themselves.

I doubt they will though.

Question about both sPVP and WvW:

If im in a party with 1-2 friends (total 2-3 people), how do we queue as a team???

Do tournaments for PvP. Wait it up for WvW and play once you both get together. You should consider moving to a server with less WvW population though to reduce queue times.

Edit : let me clarify that. You can join free tournaments with any team size and the game will fill it up for you. Of course, don’t except easy wins either and the 5v5 format is very different than 8v8. But you do get to play together for sure that way as it is meant to be.
