The 5% magic find is the main stat. It’s a MF/Vit/Tough ring with a Power/Vit/Tough jewel.
You are not very rational here. PW is less mobile than autoattacks, but the range one those is still an issue. If the mob doesn’t flee at full speed, the mobility is of very little use in PvE. The 5k attack from that champion? If you got hit during PW, no amount of moving while doing autoattacks would have put you out of range anyway. Either you interrupt your autoattack chain to dodge or you get hit. Same for PW : interrupt and dodge or get hit.
The PW interrupt itself. It’s not much yes. In PvE it’s something that is completely random and hard to control out of very specific and rare situations. Still, when it connects at the right time, it’s beneficial so the net effect is reduced damage received in the long run anyway.
All in all, I stand my ground : any PvE situation where you could have just done the autoattack chain uninterrupted, you could have done one PW for the same results. Safer even because you’d get more heath in the process, evade some attacks and interrupt some others.
In short. Any situation where PW isn’t safe to use is also a situation where melee isn’t safe in the first place so autoattack wouldn’t be better.
Pistol Whip still has invulnerability frames, interrupts mobs and does 9 hits in quick succession making it far superior to autoattacks for Signet of Malice and procing stuff that procs on crits.
As it is currently, it’s an attack that is safer than autoattacks and more multihit but less mobile for the same DPS. I cannot say it’s a bad skill as it stands but it remains underwhelming.
This trait in it’s current form is a relic from the time Revealed didn’t exist and needs to be purged for the new world order.
GW1 has far less of a barrier to playing around with builds a gear really.
The Spear 3 skill is awesome underwater. And if all else fails, skill 5 with heavy initiative regen build will save the day.
Dont get hit? Or if jade maw, I assume 1 person can probably just not be on the final platform, I dont think the maws agony hits the entire level.
It’ll hit him when he gets to the platform to rez his friends though. Although I guess with some careful placement he should be able to rez them from just outside the agony area.
You dont need exploits for it, just the reviving orb from the gem shop.
That will probably get fixed too.
But, it gets them money. It probably will remain as is :p
There’s so much fail here OP. I’m pretty sure 5 guards can’t go afk during a boss. My thief does well and shadow refugee is great for certain parts, especially rezs on random deaths during boss fights.
Well, 1 guardian with 2h hammer autoattack places on the ground a symbol that gives protection. Around 100% uptime if I’m not wrong if you stand in it. Then 4 1h hammer guardians. Autoattack chain is an AoE heal on 3rd strike.
Those two together, you are kind of hard to kill yes. If you don’t go completely AFK, the 1h hammer users can place the healing symbol when out of CD for even more group healing.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed this but in the underwaterlevel, where the Krait is usually stuck in the ceiling, there is a hole in the ceiling that lets you step out of the fractal entirely. I don’t really think it can be used as an exploit, since there’s no other way to get back into the fractal, but it gives you and interesting look at the fractals from the outside. There is for instance a small scaled version of the giant from the cliffside fractal standing beneath the main hub.
Be warned though, don’t go there when you’re actively doing the fractals as you may fall into water holes there’s no escaping from (which is particularly emberassing if the whole group wipes and you can’t reset and everyone has to restart the fractals all over.)
Someone already reported that and said you can go from there to the ascalon fractals. Once you get close enough, the Charr NPC will start following you even into the next fractal where they’ll give you a hand (they cannot attack underwater)
This boss is too punishing for mistakes, so no wonder weaker groups take the “safe” way of only sending a few players DPS it.
Reducing lava damage to make it far less dangerous to fall down should be a good enough start.
Honestly, the Initiative thing is already stretching things too much. We have a single resource to power 4 skills. Making it a single resource for 8 skills would either stretch it so thin we’d spend even more time autoattacking, or inevitably make one of our utilities too strong when spammed.
The skulls are also invisible when you put your camera up and when you are too close to the tentacles.
Probably to give some meaning to the builds with precision but little power and/or crit damage.
There’s no point saying “armor wise it is only 30 ecto per person” because gearing up in full exotic isn’t limited to the armor parts.
60-75 ectos for full set depending on weapon choice and profession. That’s the cost for a full exotic set.
Where do you get your crafting recipes? My sets cost 70 ectos. 6 armor parts, three weapons and 5 trinkets.
I was responsible for crafting armor only. Therefore 30 ectos. My boyfriend crafts the weapons and jewelry. We share the work load this way. Also my armor includes squishy armors only. I don’t know if you need more for a non squishy armor.
That answer doesn’t make sense XD You need 70 ectos for a full set of exotic gear, no matter what crafting profession you take. If you share the workload, you got two people to pay half the price to gear up one people only. At this point I’d say that getting a legendary is very easy. All you have to do is share the 1000g price among 1000 players. Surely getting 1g for a Legendary isn’t much effort is it?
Also I found a fun way to make money on my alts. Jumping puzzles. If a jumping puzzle spawns a silver doubloon (happened 2 times today, out of 6 jumping puzzles), that is instant 80 silver. If you raise your magic find up, it spawns exotics sometimes. There’s over 100 jumping puzzles and repeating it daily is so worth it.
Magic Find doesn’t improve chest items, only death drops.

I’d just call the fractals what they are : level 1, 2, 3 up to 8. Always put a boss at the end and just let the agony check prevent people from going up. It’s basically what it is currently with a tiny grind in the middle used to disguise the real grind in the agony concept
I got a ring on my first try, most of my guildies on 2nd, some still haven’t gotten it.
RNG is RNG, no need for threads like this.RNG is not RNG because many players get zero period. Zero period for so many players seems a little off. So I’m just asking them to make sure it’s working properly.
Assuming 20% drop chance for rings, there’s 90% chance you getting at least one ring
after 10 daily.
Reverse that and there’s 10% chance you get no ring at all after 10 dailys.
Tweak that a little and you get the final conclusion :
10% of all the Fractal players will get no ring at all in their 10 first daily. Players that will complain (justly so) in the forums.
10% is one player per two full groups. It is a lot you know.
I’d be happy enough if GW2 allowed me to respec my gear stats and runes and sigils for close to free. I’m sick of playing always the same build and have little desire to buy yet another full exotic set to complement another stat distribution.
by now I’ve bought 90 ectos. You know that exotics that I said I have? I crafted them for 3 chars. And like I said, gearing one char is 10 to 15 gold. I still managed to gear up 3 without grinding. 30 ectos per exotic set if you’re making it.
Where do you get your crafting recipes? My sets cost 70 ectos. 6 armor parts, three weapons and 5 trinkets.
D/D elementalists are hardly what I’d call a melee class. Your dagger 1 attack range goes from 300 range (earth and air) to 400 (fire) to 600 (water). Try playing with 130 range attacks like the thief and necro dagger 1 skills and we’ll talk melee.
An official answer about why the chose this kind of agony implementation is here. I can understand why there is agony, but why percentage base and why have undodgeable agony encounters.
If it wasn’t percentage based, it would destroy 10k HP players while barely registering for 30k HP players. Thus making it the opposite that happens right now : making it far easier for high HP high vitality builds to resist.
The undodgeable agony encounters are here because without them, infusion items wouldn’t be a barrier at all since they’d all be optional.
Global achievements in GW1 were a nice touch. But only the really big deal achievements would be broadcasted, not the “congrats, you’ve picked one flower. Wow you’ve picked 10 flowers now!”
Pretty sure the Destroyer fight without the canons but with more spells thrown at the players along with the need to avoid the periodic spikes from above would be enough for an interesting fight. Just keep the lasers and instead of making them work on a timer, make them work on HP threshold.
For example, at 75%, 50% and 25% HP, the destroyer creates the bubble that starts healing him quicker and quicker?
Let me try to explain it more clearly. It started with your reply to :
Omg, it’s begun, it was backstab, now unicorn, next " omg did you see that thief run around in circles, everyone was confused and just watched him so he took no damage!!"
OMG Thieves have confusion now? :O
Yes with the Prayer to Lyssa spell :o
The answer is a 4 letter word that starts with JOK and ends with OKE.
Omg go to take a ice shower and wake up. Prayer to Lyssa is human race spell not thief spell, every human can use it. And btw Prayer to Lyssa (Pray to Lyssa, granting a random boon to yourself and a random condition to target enemy) has effect only on TARGET enemy so only ONE target no all. In addition it grant RANDOM boon so it can be bleeding, poison, chill OR confusion or other random boon. So NO thief has no confusion skill!!!
True. A more thievy and reliable way has you steal gunk from an engineer and do projectile combos through it. You can probably apply two stacks per combo if the target stands in it, has one and only one friend near and you use the dagger 4 ricochet skill.
Are you really so much jealous that you must find every advantage on thief class and try cry for nerf, omg?
Maybe you should step back and take a deep breath in. And go reread what was written.
Sure why not! but the same has to apply to Gw2 as well! you dont even need exotic gear to be effective and you dont need the runes either to be effective!
That’s not the same. I just said that the +3 runes were NOT always the most effective because they caused you to lose stats. Are you saying that you don’t need exotics because in some situations rares with their plain lower stats would be better? No they aren’t.
Also, in GW1 runes weren’t soulbound so any investment I made into them to temporarily get a bonus weaker than the one I wanted wasn’t wasted at all, except some small transfer fee. In GW2, buying an exotic set and scrapping it for ectos once you get the ascended set is a huge money loss. It’s not that bad for rare => exo though since rares are more or less as valuable as the ectos you can make out of them.
Omg, it’s begun, it was backstab, now unicorn, next " omg did you see that thief run around in circles, everyone was confused and just watched him so he took no damage!!"
OMG Thieves have confusion now? :O
Yes with the Prayer to Lyssa spell :o
The +3 runes in GW1 were of 2 kind :
- ultra cheap because they had no use for this class ( +3 runes also carry a HEAVY HP loss penalty)
- expensive because the caster class could really make use of it despite the penalty, or even WITH the help of the penalty for low HP builds
More often than not, the +1 runes were used. Very few builds required using two +3 runes, more like one +3 and one or two +1. Or no +3 at all.
+1 runes were more common in the world so cheaper to get even if a lot more popular.

Can’t afk shoot anymore? How horrible!
The problem is his ridiculously high HP, genius.
The truth is the people on the cannons are supposed to jump down on the floating platforms avoiding the periodic “into the lava” knockbacks to get close to the boss, DPS a little jumping back and forth as needed, then going back up to the laser to activate it again (laser takes 15s to break the shield then 15s later it’s back up) and repeat that until victory.
Now, what can go wrong here?
- Falling into the lava and getting killed with very little hope of getting rezed cause the place hurts.
- Walking from faaaar away to come back to the fight.
- Walking through the lair of the ultimate life form : the Champion Destroyer Crab. Run for your lives! Thank god this monster doesn’t try to take over the world or else we’ll all be doomed.
Although you are correct in all your considerations, the materials that you farmed should always be looked as an item that has also value.
Yes it IS very important, people forget that. Let me explain it in a way they’ll understand.
How to make ectos for ~64 copper.
- Visit a merchant and buy a Master’s Salvage Kit for ~16s. Each usage of this kit will cost you ~64 copper.
- Walk to Cursed Shores to avoid warp costs
- kill a mob
- loot an exotic (some RNG required, but hey, it’s free!)
- salvage it and get with some bad luck only 3 ectos.
Congrats, you just salvaged Dawn and got 3 ectos for only 64 copper!
It also happens to be easier but people seem to forget this thing called risk vs reward. Its funny though how on one hand you complain that as you say you’re forced to FoTM, one type of content but are quick to ignore all other content because its suboptimal! I hope you dont expect a game to have equal rewards everywhere because that’s essentially impossible! if Gw2 issued rewards based on your level alone guess what would happen? everyone farming the starter areas! why? because the events there are a lot quicker and a lot easier then say Orr. You cannot have it both ways I am afraid! if you cant enjoy playing anything thats suboptimal no matter what arenanet or any other game company will do you will always funnel yourself in playing the same content because thats the nature of the beast there will always be an optimal content to play and everything else will always be suboptimal!
It’s not funny. I don’t want to “waste my time”. For me, doing stuff in Orr or any other place is the same. Well, not exactly the same, the new map and the Dredge heavy map in the Shiverpeaks are a LOT harder than Orr for no better reward actually. The level 1-15 maps might be ultra easy sure. But do you know the definition of “middle ground”? There’s a lot of room from “every single map in the game world drops useful stuff for a level 80 and events with worthy XP, Karma and Gold” to “only two maps in Orr, half of one map in the north and Lost Shores of Overtuned Mobs drops stuff useful for a level 80”
You find it funny I’m complaining of only doing FotM and dismiss the rest of the content as suboptimal? Well, why wouldn’t I? The rest of the content IS suboptimal and not that much fun to begin with. Whereas FotM is the only source of the best rings in the game, drops relics that can be used to buy the best back piece in the game whereas MFing the same would cost 70g. And second, you actually get OK money and drops in it which is enough by itself to get the rest of the best items. T6 fine mats? They drop there too. Lodestones and Cores? They drop there too whereas in open world you need to farm very specific mob types to get them.
Farming in low level maps? One T1 blood costs 25c. T6 blood costs 25s. By the time I’d get 100 T1 bloods I’d have hit the DR so much I’d have 10000 dry bones to sell. Might as well do it on level 77+ mobs and drop one blood in one hour or less or a dozen extra T5 (1.5s piece) for extras. Result : I got a lot more money for far less effort. Risk vs no reward currently?
GW1 managed it, I was playing all over the world doing every single map and they’d drop me level capped items and crafting mats and money worthy of a level 20 player.
Found a new cleverly placed pillar in the char fractal. When you turn left and go up the ramp(after the door of course) you can’t skip over one pack of ascalonians anymore.
That’s rather ugly.
From all my experiences, the only thing that mattered for elemental spawns in Orr was having the nearby statue not corrupted. Now, maybe there is another trigger for that but for sure, you need to own the temple corresponding to the statue to see them spawn.
Bad players usually get berserker gear and not stuff like ptv armor. Changing agony to flat damage would cause more complains than now. Smart players that go for Vitality and Toughness knowing that they get hit/want to play tank or smart berserker geared people will continue to be smart and deal with the percentual damage caused by agony.
Good players avoid damage, bad players destroy their DPS to absorb the damage.
Sparks, the air elementals spawn near the Dwayna statues, the goddess of air. I’ll let you discover what needs to be done to make them appear.
I was talking about pvp
Well excuse me if we didn’t pick up that part when posting in the PvE dungeon subforum on a thread talking about dungeon fights (dum dum dum!)
New record today, got hit by 4 of the Ring of Warding bolts for 2×2400 damage and 2×4800 damage (two crits I presume) for 14800 damage in total.
Technically, he just needs to do F12 then click char select.
.5 second casts exists in PvP in WoW, but those are harder to predict, and most of those interrupts are cherry picked as highlight movie footages.
Well, I was playing pvp in gw1 and you had to interrupt 0.75s skills but your own interrupts were activating in 0.25s plus flight time of arrow (even 0.3s). And you had to do it really reliable, it wasn’t something to be proud of, you had to do it on a regular basis.
But GW1 had cast bars, spells that increased cast time to make interrupts easier and even preventive interrupts that would proc on next skill. Also, there was no fights that I remember were such interrupts were that important and if so, taking a couple interrupt heros with their computer brains would do the trick.
Yea but at least the normal IceBrood Wolves jump in the air, the Champion doesnt.
I do seem to remember normal IceBroods as not doing the jump either when they use that skill in melee range. But at least they don’t hurt that much, only 4k per hit for two hits XD
The Icebrood Wolves are guilty of that too but slightly less strong. What is weird is that in the combat log, their pounce attack does two hits instead of one with no visible correlation why it would be so. And it’s a PBAoE too. Maybe they do double damage by mistake?
The way that skill is anti melee is definitively one of the standard patterns for all anti melee fights :
- pattern A : mob got a delayed attack that hurts, travel time is the delay, melee = no travel time
- patter B : mob does a cone attack, melee gets hit by multiple projectiles while ranged can easily fit between two
- pattern B2, subject alpha variant : melee is highly more likely to get hit by two circles of his cone AoE for double damage. Ranged aren’t immune to that though
- pattern B3, AoE variant : attack is a small AoE so you not only have to avoid it when aimed at you but also when aimed as other melee fighting with you which can be harder to spot
And we often get pattern A + pattern B. For example the cliffside boss Ring of Warding attack which throws confusion bolts. At least the hammer windup animation he does isn’t THAT fast (but still very fast)
(edited by stof.9341)
Try looting only crap stats offensive infusion slot rings and we’ll talk about moving forward :p 225 fractal token the infusion to put in a ring you don’t want to go forward?
I’d rather get a way to choose the stats I want on the ring instead of getting the crappy mixed stats one again and again :/
The Tiprwire, Needle Trap and Smoke Screen thief skills, although they proc correctly when an hostile enters the rectangular shape, will only apply their debuff or knockdown if the hostile is near the middle of the trap.
Proof in video : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/thief/Thief-AOE-Utility-Skills-failing-VID/first
signet of malice, go to the trading post. search for “reyna’s” buy that armor set, dagger storm for elite (if there is only one boss that doesnt summon adds you could use thiefs guild to kill the boss abit quicker). and be sure to have a shortbow. also buy some peach cookies
ive had several times where my whole party whiped and than they start crying that i should kill myself since thats faster than reviving them all -.-
Bah. Vitality set and healing power doesn’t work well against agony attacks and doesn’t synergise well. I’d rather use Cleric or Zho set.
melee attacks do more damage in general. not sure why some people stick to ranged ones… lack of experience i guess.
Dead people have 0 DPS.
Heck, dead people have negative DPS. Their absence is hampering the rest of their group DPS even if they aren’t trying to res them.
Yeah, it is a stupid decision especially since Explorables were all cross server. Not sure why ANet decided “Lets fix this part of our dungeons that people like and it works. I mean we will have guesting by 2015 or whatever!”. GW2LFG site works fine as usually someone is in some sort of overflow.
Lazyness. When you are on a primary map or an overflow, you are actually connected to a specific server. The way fractal entry works is done on that server. So to check info like the maximum level possible or the list of players to enter fractal and receive the popup message, the server can only do it with the players that are connected to it. It has no info about the players that aren’t connected to it so it cannot take them to the fractal level.
The worse is that it would have been far easier to make fractal work by asking you the level you want inside the instance, for example by talking to one asura to change it or when you start the instance itself by walking in the middle teleporter. Then entering the lobby would be of no consequences.
16 tries with no ring. I should feel special this must be some kind of a record…
Sorry to broke it to you pal, but one of my guildies ran 220+ fractal and still doesn’t have a ring.
Since there is one chance per day per fractal tier to get the ring, I seriously doubt your friend did 220 tries for it yet.
none of us could get into a overflow btw
Then you cannot make it work.
It’s 1 :
The fact you need 50 for an ascended back piece and 250 to infuse it on top of it isn’t a stranger to that.
It’s only 50 if you are too lazy to farm the 1850 fractal tokens to make one.
You either grind or you spend your hard earned grinding money from Cursed Shore.
That’s not an argument. My argument is that you need 50 ectos to craft an ascended back piece. Sure you can buy another one for 1850 fractal tokens but a LOT of players went the crafting way because it allowed them to get the back piece much faster for one, and seconds, because it was the only known way for a long time.
