The wiki says the CD is 50s which isn’t exactly a solid margin above the 45s CD of Basilisk. maybe the wiki is wrong though?

Lack of good Elite Skills

The venom probably isn’t that bad for P/P builds. If you consider a main “weakness” of that build is people dodging away most of the Unload or the sneak 1 skill, applying the Basilik venom before you use those will ensure at least 1.5s of immobility on the target without eating away one of your utility slots. Besides, as an elite on a 45s CD it’s pretty nice and available often.

The efficiency of Basilik Venom does depend a LOT on your build, trait and gear. For example, for your own build you could go full Lyssa rune set to get 10% condition duration bonus and precision. Basilik Venom becomes then for you a powerful full condition condition removal skill on a 50s CD but 1s cast time :p (yes 50s CD, the proc from the 6th rune of the set has such a CD) You also get all the boons at once.

It also gets rather powerful with venom share and this trait is probably the reason why it was nerfed with a cast time in the first place. And the fact it doesn’t stack duration too.

I don’t think Basilik Venom is a bad elite outside of backstab build really but it does take specific situations to make it work ok.

I want all people that ask that question ( Why are you males playing female chars) to imagine what would happen ingame if everyone played exclusively chars of their own gender. You couldn’t be a female without getting hit on by creeps every 5 minutes

As a side note, I guess I play a female char because I do not relate myself at all to my char. It’s just a way to have an easy access to all the skimpy clothing options. If I bought a magazine to watch models, I’d buy one with female models, not male.

Besides, it might not even be done on purpose. If you afk long enough, the passing by players will rez you one after the other, and you’ll end up naked. It only takes 14 deaths to get all naked.

Let me guess, you aren’t playing with your mouse at all XD I’m not trying to be mean or all but I do really think that if you aren’t controlling your camera facing for the whole run with your mouse, I don’t think you can finish the puzzle at all. People would complain less about camera and big races if they properly placed their cameras well above their heads and somewhat far in the first part of the puzzle. Besides you get a much better view of where you are stepping into that way and can jump better.

Blindness stomp is the most uneffective stomp around. Well of darkness pulses 1 time per second, once you missed the first downed autoattack, you can still prevent stomping.

You know most anti stomp downed skills actually have cast times right? Blind anti stomp works very well. In my experience, it works better than Stealth stomp btw.

How to finish the Clock Tower in 2 easy steps

in Halloween Event

stof.9341

Good tips. What no one seams to be aware of is that they are not only playing against the clock but also against each other. The green goo rises at a set rate. However everything that happens in the puzzle is determined by the person in the lead. If that person reaches the leap of faith a few seconds ahead of others the rest is doomed to fail.
That’s why the puzzle is not instanced.

Not really. The timer is fixed and doesn’t depend on players. I had an elementalist zipping fast past all that and the one time he managed to not overjump all over the place, I found him waiting at that cog for what seemed a long time before I reached it, and the goo, and the rest of the path.

Here’s a tip for that part, if you don’t care for the chest, stay on the metal bar and wait for the rest of the path to open, then walk down to fall on the debris that rise and form the rest of the way. You’ll only take regular fall damage and not get knocked down which is a good time saver for sure.

Doing the leap of faith is actually more of a “side trip” to get the chest than the normal way.

Also, it IS possible to get all 3 chests in a single run. I did it. The hard part is chest two cause it’s right before the timed small rock jump so you actually have to perfect the start of the run to save as much time as possible.

For the camera issues, my trick is to keep is close and not zoomed out. The camera jumping problem barely never occurs that way. If the other players make it hard for you to see, point the camera more to the ground. It’s more important to see where you walk than where you jump. Once you get used to the path you can just jump blindly for the early parts of the puzzle.

2497 armor. I can bump it over 2600 with my shield on and setting the bonus trait. As far as I can see though, makes little difference. In PvP, my engineer has about 150 point less armor, still getting hit way too hard. Even if I had all +tough +vit gear with +tough +vit runes and +tough +vit accessories, I only get up around 2700 with a shield on. Damage should still be coming in around 5k to 7k per hit and my damage would suck

You should be able to get to 3k armor. You forgot to improve your jewelry it seems. Looking at it I see only blue or green stuff, mostly karma things. Nearly half your stats come from the jewelry.

Also, in sPvP the highest DPS specs aren’t possible, no matter what you do, berzerk and valkyrie got some stats allocated to vitality or thoughness. In WvWvW on the other hand you can go really all glass canon berzerker.

Haste is exactly the same as Quickness.

No it isn’t. Quickness is a speed boost for movement only. Haste is a speed boost for your attacks. In PvE, haste makes you hilariously powerful because it activates often and lets you make short work of mobs.

It’s however less reliable in PvP because the fights are shorter and you have less margin of error.

You are right that Haste isn’t exactly the same as Quickness. But the later isn’t move speed. Swiftness is the movement speed boost.

Haste is a thief skill that gives you the “Quickness” boost along a debuff. Same as Frenzy gives warriors the Quickness boost along another debuff. The thief trait and the weapon sigil that triggers the Quickness boost is just that : improved attack speed and nothing else.

That one skill alone transformed my entire game. I had been playing without it for nearly this entire time but tried it out yesterday just for the hell of it.

Haste is not the same as quickness – haste speeds up your attacks to the point where an auto attack chain is a blur. It may be the single most devastating skill the thief has, only challenged by back stab.

Stealth doesn’t remove roots. Also the Steal skill doesn’t place the thief in your back which is required for backstab to do heavy damage. It’s impossible to you to have died instantly like that unless you specifically put your back to the rooted thief.

Maybe you shouldn’t be playing a game that was designed from the ground up, based on a system of karma and gold. A PvE system that dominates — no, completely encompasses, the vast majority of the game. The PvP that is so important to you is just peripheral content. Perhaps you should be playing something where PvP is the pie filling and not crust.

Nope. I was just using your argument against you. You feel entitled to having legendaries without doing WvW. By that same logic, why shouldn’t I be able to get them without karma, gold or both?

FYI, I have spent almost the entirety of my time in this game in PVE, and haven’t really touched PVP since august (apart from some WvW for the monthlies). But hey, you want legendaries without WvW. I’m cool with that, but I’ll opt out of karma instead. Sounds only fair to me.

The difference here is that PvP is a peripheral activity in a PvE game, while karma and gold are fundamental systems that the whole game rests upon. You’re trying to compare the seat covers in a Ferrari to the fuel it uses in it’s engine.

Legendaries are peripheral in GW2. They are given exclusively to players that enjoy every part of the game (except sPvP which lives in it’s own tiny bubble).

Exploring the WvWvW maps is FAR from doing any kind of PvP really. You might have a little issue with the skill points, vistas an few PoI out in the open yeah but they are few and once done, it’s over. And the PoI and vistas inside the capturable structures, well you don’t have to go capture them all by yourself really, it’s unreasonable to ask that. Just explore the points when your server own them.

It is annoying if your server never gets it’s greedy hands on that last keep you need but then it might be easier to access it at next rotation if your new server color is more favorably placed for that. The only point that is difficult to get is SM in the central map because there’s no starting point that makes it “easy” for your server to capture it. You have to monitor the WvWvW situation and jump in to visit it when you can.

Pistol #1 is for condition based builds. A Condition/Precision build can also make OK use of Pistol #3 with runes that bleed on crit. And in PvE I think the Power/Precision/Condition sets have a high DPS output, with bleed on crit runes of course.

But mostly, with P/P you either go condition and stick to Pistol #1 and Sneak attack Pistol #1 or Power/Crit and stick to Unload spam. Note that Unload since it attacks very often has a similar useful property as Pistol Whip : procs Signet of Malice very often.

Stomping While Invisible? Working as intended?

in PvP

Posted by: stof.9341

stof.9341

There’s two ways to stop an invulnerable stomp : stealthing the victim or rallying it before the stomp finishes with instant rez skills and the like. Stealthing the victim also has the distinct drawback that you must first make sure it stopped all attacks and didn’t place some DoT AoE somewhere first or else it’s wasted.

There’s SO many ways to stop a stealth stomp : he’s invisible, not invulnerable. Warriors can throw their hammer in the direction the thief was in. If he moves to stomp from a different direction, the stealth will end too early unless he’s traited for better stealth. Rangers can stun with their 2 stealth stompers. Guardians still push back and engineers can also try to blindly throw their 2 skill to try to interrupt. I don’t remember how the necro downed fear works though.

Stealth stomp is basically not a protection against stomp 2 skills but a way to make it harder to use some of them. It’s rather balanced if you ask me. And if a friend is getting stealth stomped, it’s nothing Pistol Whip cannot solve. Now if you ask me, Stability stomps are FAR stronger because boon stripping isn’t exactly a low CD action by itself. Honestly, much better than stealth stomps is doing blind stomps. Now that is effective

JonPeters, I’m sorry to say but your response to ALL of the FoV threads is just stupid in my hoenst opinion.
Why is it SO HARD for you and the dev team of GW2 to understand that FoV threads will continue to pop until you DO SOMETHING about this?!
A FoV of ~60 on a modern PC game is stupid, no matter what you blame it on, there is a reason there are tons of threads on the official and the unofficial forums discussing this topic every single day.

Sigh.

FOV in GW2 is 75, which is the same as the default in Half Life and WoW. While I understand people’s desires, (I play source engine and quake engine games at about 105 or 110), we are not just limiting it for technical reasons, there are also gameplay implications that we are taking into account that we believe are a core part of the game. Additionally we keep it at 75 to maintain the integrity of our art which is also important to us and many of our fans. If there was a single reason we might think about looking for a workaround, but because it relates to core issues for 3 of our major departments this is not an easy problem and will remain that way for the foreseeable future.

Vertical FoV is at 75? What about FoV change when you zoom in and out? Is it still 75 all the way through or does it change depending on how close the camera is from the player?

To make everyone happy.

- Hide the score and remove the unlockable PvE stuff through accumulation of map ownage. Keep it just to decide brackets for next game but keep it hidden.
- Switch the outmanned and the orb buffs and make the later apply in the PvE maps only (ie, cap orbs in WvWvW to get bonuses in PvE maps).
- Remove stuff degradation through PvP deaths or allow players to pay for reparations with tokens in the 3W maps. Like 1 token for 100% repair.

Could probably go further.
- The orb bonuses are too weak to matter when outmanned happens so might need to boost them.
- A 0 supply situation when a team night caps 100% of the map is very hard to overcome since you cannot make siege engines at all, so a kind of bonus to supplies in those situations could be fine. For example the more you control the map, the more it costs to build anything and when you control practically nothing, make all player carried supplies count for 10.

Revealed is applied on a player that exited from stealth through an hostile action. NOT when the Stealth runs out of time. It’s also applied when a player gets out of the Shadow Refuge area but that’s not the point here.

If you time the cast of Cloak and Dagger so that it connects with the target after the previous Stealth finishes, you’ll get back in hiding a split second after without a problem. It does tend to limit the thief damage dealing capabilities to one attack every 3s though (4s if he got the trait for it).
