Regardless of how the guests or the hosts felt about the initial linking, it’s over and done with, we lost/we won whatever side you’re on its done. But, its still seperate, and shuffling large groups of people according to whatever schedule Anet decides now is their right, but, it’s not right! People are going to eventually get tired of it, if they aren’t already.
I’d submitted to the reality that my server is now only represented with a + sign and a salt forum signature. I’ve also accepted the fact that most of the 12 guest servers will likely never be a host. But, how much more submitting is there for us guests? A little over a month in and still no stability! Those of us that are scheduled to be shuffled whenever and eventually those that have a named home will crack.
When you look at the cold, hard, facts, Anet did the right thing by cutting the amount of servers, we did not need 24 NA servers. What they failed to do was give us definitive answers about our future, they also cut too many servers. They’ve lumped former enemies together and let or forced (in some cases) for us to become friends – a team! Soon, they’ll split us apart again. How is that better for anyone? Hosts not knowing who they’re getting, guests not knowing where they’re going, a good portion of the population being moved around like bacon on a frying pan and really no incentive for the bacon to fight to build something they won’t be apart of in a few weeks.
Like I said, I’ve submitted to the fact that my server isn’t represented while I’m in wvw, and I’ll continue to fight as long as I can, without an apparent purpose. But, for those on the named servers that disagree with the “give us a name crowd”…think long and hard about putting them/us in our place now, we may be paired with you one day, and whether or not we fight with you all depends on you treat us throughout this process.
the argument has been if you’re gonna kill server identity then just blow everything up and create new servers or just merge servers
Your mileage may vary…still seeing the same guilds from GoM playing alongside SoS.
gom rarely plays anymore outside of reset not sure what you’re talking about
i didn’t want server linking, but majority won that poll so i compromised. There was no option for weekly reevaluating matchups so I compromised with 1 month which was still borderline bearable. 2 months is too long, I guess i’ll just have to take a break from WvW. Feel like im compromising too much at this point.
i’m pretty close to dropping WvW / the game completely depending on what they decide to do after the server linking beta ends and what direction they take WvW. So far they have been basically undoing all the damage they did with HoT bit by bit.
UGH where the devil is the no DBL ever again option? Nobody wants that crap back!
Poll should have actually asked if we wanted it to come back, not how much of it we wanted. This is a really, really bad idea.
Whether you agree with it or not there are enough people out there that do like Desert Borderland, not to mention I can’t see Anet scrapping something they’ve worked on over a year. This poll is about appealing to both camps and letting the community decide how they want Desert back in. If you dislike it your best option is Simultaneous: 2 Alpine + 1 DB. This way you never have to set foot in Desert if you didn’t want to.
Yep, enough ppl liked it so much that it’s basically empty all the time and you don’t run into anyone else in it for hours at a time. And on higher tier servers it’s basically treated as an overflow map like EotM on reset nights.
If they’re gonna appeal to the minority on this then I’d like to see them undo world linking too on a rotational basis.

where’s the option to scrap the desert borderlands?
Mixed Borderlands – get rid of desert borderlands they are unfixable, too large and too complicated to navigate vertically.
World Linking Schedule – Get rid of world linking and merge if possible otherwise link every week.
Deployable Mortars – No
Deployable Cannons – No
Repair Hammer – No
meanwhile get rid of all the banners and perks that make siege only take 25% damage.
i’d watch it if i could spectate in game instead of having to watch it on twitch. Not a fan of having to listen to casters and have no control over who i spectate.
just wanted to add that I disagree with world linking and really hate it but really appreciate what you’re doing Tyler, it’s better than nothing and it’s great that you’re constantly seeking feedback and suggestions from the WvW community especially after how long we’ve been ignored for.
On Why World Linking?
due to it better preserving the identity of all original worlds, and being more flexible than a more traditional World Merging solution.
What? you destroyed one servers identity and kept the other. If you’re gonna do that at least swap off the name every week or go down the server merging route and rename the resulting server so everyone has a new similar name.
I play on SoS, and this week we are against maguuma and FA while losing pretty hard. For the first two day (Friday and Saturday) we hung in there, but by Sunday the server had apparently given up and the past two days have been totally dead. Nobody ever thought we would be competitive in the matchup and this has caused most of the server to take the week off.
Two days of action and now apparently 5 days of retaking towers when the other servers are done with them. And that’s boring.
Alpine is less roamer friendly than Desert, so even that’s boring.
Wasn’t the idea of server linking to put most servers on at least an even footing? The numbers game here isn’t working.
I’m on SoS/GoM, too, and have noticed as of Sunday the drop in our paired server’s participation. I’ve actually seen more familiar faces from GoM lately than the larger SoS guilds.
Perhaps when the smaller incremental scoring is implemented and servers don’t end up as far apart and have a chance at catching up, and the night-capping points not being so lopsided, then it might keep players interested in continuing the fight rather than giving up once a 20-40k point spread exists after 3 days.
pretty sure many SoS players don’t like being paired to GoM and simply don’t play or afk in spawn until more SoS commanders show up.
Synergy, I’m a SoS player and although I can only speak 100% for myself, I believe the gist of what you say for many is incorrect. I personally GREATLY appreciate all that GoM has brought to the table since the pairing – with commanders and players.
And as a matter of fact, I’ve been following GoM commanders almost as much as SoS commanders, especially lately. And, I agree – for the last 10 days or so, there seems to be more GoM commanders tagging up. Some of these fine folks I know are GoM commanders; others are unknown names to me, so they’re either new to commanding and/or could be from GoM. (Note: I’ve been on SoS for over 1.5 years, so I know most of the regular SoS commanders.) Regardless, I think we’re missing people on SoM (SoS/GoM) as of late due to other games being in beta/general release. (Some folks have told me that’s what they’ve been doing.)
GoM – Hat’s off to you! I’m glad we’re paired! And I’ll follow your commanders into Mag’s garri… any day of the week!
(And I promise to “try” and stay on tag!
)
I’m not saying the whole SoS server hates GoM. We actually played with many SoS players and they were great people. I tend to log on a bit late on reset and at random times when there’s queue and after everyone has set off from spawn I’d notice people just sitting around doing nothing and in say chat would talk about how they are waiting until their guild gets in from the queue and/or a SoS commander. Meanwhile we’re getting outnumbered with one tag and 30ish people following, with no havoc group at all capping anything on the map. So people are either afk and/or dueling.
Also had an instance on a quiet night with few people in EB where a SoS commander logged into EB late, over tagged, spammed join SoS TS and join his squad. Everyone who wasn’t on GoM pretty much quit the TS and squad and switched over which was fine. But 2 minutes later he told everyone to go to another map.

you need to revert it back to the way it was before the initial nerf. It was too strong before HoT, but with the insane amount of CC’s that came with HoT you definitely have to revert it.
They changed back reset to the time most players wanted.
most players wanted the time it was before on Friday. They changed it to really late at night on Friday instead.
Just curious, what world do you play for? I’m looking at the current breakdown of votes by world right now, and nearly every world has voted in favor of World Linking. There are a few that are 50/50, and one that is against it.
People who quit due to the changes don’t vote. At least for my server/guild that’s the case.
On my server, there would be queues on reset, but we’d still get vastly outnumbered and only have 0-1 tag running since every one else is roaming / dueling / afking in spawn waiting for their friends or their servers commander to log on since they refuse to follow others.
I came back to the game a month before HoT and found a great guild that taught me how to play the game and WvW properly. I’ve owned the game since release and that month was the most fun I’ve had with the game. After the expansion, with every week less and less people show up for reset night and playing WvW in general. I caught up on the story content and made some alts, and now I’m finding myself playing less of it too.
I had the piece sitting in my bank waiting for the bug to get fixed. It’s still soulbound to my other character as of now.
PU perma stealth mesmer exploting the new bug roaming around tagging the walls of SM and keeps once so it gets contested and zergs can’t waypoint to anywhere but the farthest waypoint.
LOL, looks like torches and pitchforks time.
And Gaile, people are reacting in an understandable manner.
It’s because they are angry.
The big question in my mind, is why?
Yeah, I was thinking the same about the pitchforks and torches.
I don’t discount players when they are upset, though, and I truly understand that sometimes things hit close to home and cause some angst, anger, upset, any sort of reaction. (I’d think it was possible to have the discussion without it devolving into unpleasantness, but then, I always was an optimist!
)
I asked a quick question of a team leader about the changes. I thought the answers were pretty clear so I posted them. But if you want more info, maybe there’s more to be learned and I’ll ask about that tomorrow.
The answer is simple, its about the money. If you’d simply admit that most people would be less angry about it. They are mostly angry about you blaming it on new players when new players don’t even have enough gold to convert to gems, among many other bs excuses.
