There are a couple different thoughts in this thread that I want to comment on.
1) SF will destroy or be destroyed by T7.
Can we PLEASE stop speculating about this in EVERY thread? There are plenty of threads for this already. Soon we will all know for real and lots of people will learn how wrong they are. There are a lot of overconfident people on both sides who are in for a reality check really soon.
2) GoM was or was not thrown under the bus.
It is completely clear that GoM was not intentionally thrown under the bus. Was GoM unintentionally thrown under the bus?
Probably yes. Why?
All of these things happened in the same week, not giving GoM time to recover. GoM does not “deserve” to go down. None of these issues has to do with our performance (except the SAB thing I guess, but Anet wants us to do SAB).
3) GoM is or is not angry about this.
Some people in GoM are angry about this, but surprisingly many (I’d even say most) of us are not. There are actually more NSP players in this thread jumping to our defense then GoM players. (This is really weirding me out, they must really like those party treats we left them in GoM Hills.)
The only thing we on GoM are really worried about is a washout. We hate washouts, even if we are winning. We love a good fight. That said, I’m hopeful that ET and FC will bring a good fight and we will have a interesting matchup.
Conclusion
I’m encouraged that Devon is trying to fix this, both in the short and long term. I’m interested in seeing how this plays out.

Honestly, no. GoM has not been keeping good control of our BL. We can’t hold NSP back and that is with HoD leaving us alone most of the time. I could speculate as to why, but there are too many new factors. But it is clear that things are not balanced anymore.
What time slot do you play in? I generally WvW sometime during 17:00-0:00 EST and it is hard to penetrate into BLs. At most, someone will manage to push up to a keep, but that doesn’t get held too long either.
I play in that same timeslot. Just take a look at earlier in the thread. During that very timeslot, NSP managed to build a WP in our hills. Meanwhile, GoM has rarely had WP’s all week. GoM has rarely owned hills this week. NSP and HoD have taken bay repeatedly, and we have also lost Garrison often enough to not have the WP.
I’m not writing this to complain. GoM hit a bad streak and we need to work on tactics and coordination again. We will bounce back in time, I’m not worried. But I think it is clear that our tier is not balanced like it was a week or two ago.
Yeah. These matches were far more enjoyable when populations were more evenly matched. Another big fail for Anet for allowing all of the transfers. Getting flashbacks to a few months back of being outmanned by servers with larger WvWvW populations and long days of spawn camping by the population bloated enemies. And to think…I was just feeling good about coming back to WvWvW the last few weeks.

NSP and HoD have double teamed GoM. GoM and NSP have double teamed HoD. GoM and HoD have double teamed NSP. If you cannot remember all of this happening, then you either don’t pay attention or your memory sucks.
The difference between a wining team and a losing team is this: How do you handle being double teamed?
I understand that it sucks when you cannot win because you are being double teamed. You can come to the forums and yell at people for their “shameful” actions. Or you can fight to the last man to slow them down. The double team will shift again soon enough.
Completely disagree. My lovely and noble server NSP is not upset because we were accidentally double teamed. That happens from time to time naturally. We’re rightly outraged because this was a PLANNED double-team where GoM and HoD commanders were specifically telling their troops NOT to attack each other, where GoM and HoD where HANGING OUT next to each other and camping our spawn point. Not only is this completely unethical and dishonorable, it also breaks the game’s intentions for WvW. I used to think GoM and HoD were decent servers with good people. It was a relief not to fight AR. But now? I’ve lost all respect for GoM and HoD. Here at NSP we value a good clean fight. Our commanders would never do anything so low. I call on those decent, honorable players in HoD and GoM, of which I know there are many, to speak out against this kind of behavior in your player base. You can still save your reputations by getting it together and playing the game as it was intended. It’s up to the good, honest commanders on GoM and HoD to make sure this doesn’t happen again or the stain of this knavish dishonor will follow you around through whatever tiers you’re in.

I’m aware we received a few transfers, which we’re happy to have them, but lets give a little credit to the hard work everyone has put in. We were winning the matchup last week before we fell asleep the last few days, and we were winning again this week before the transfers.
That being said, this is a pretty sick matchup. Love this tier.
HoD really deserves credit for their hard work. But when I get steamrolled by a 40 man zerg filled exclusively with guild tags I have never seen before, it’s the transfers.
If anything, all these transfers undid some of your hard work. HoD has become very uncoordinated, which is to be expected when so many new people show up. However, I’m sure you guys will organize soon enough, and be on your way to T6. Just do us a favor and destroy DH for us, ok?
Well dang, HoD definitely got them transfers. Once they learn how to coordinate, they will be leaving this tier. Wouldn’t it be funny if they move up a tier and beat DH.
Sadly, this is me. Only difference, I made the switch a long time ago. I keep coming back, hoping that my heal power engineer will become useful again, but no dice.
Sad… I was about to dust off my full cleric gear engineer. Oh, well.

If I remeber right mine is doing about 325 hp/pr second atm in my healing support build, which is quite neat in combo with all the other stuff I got going!

So I know that Anet put Gate of Madness on their list of “medium” servers, but in-game I’ve never seen us get down to medium. Is there a time of day when GoM is actually at medium?
If not, then the free transfers don’t apply to us, despite Anet saying otherwise on the blog.

You shouldn’t have too much trouble finding people like that. There are a lot of guilds on every T7 server who focus on the PvP.

Pug from AR, here. I will vouch for GOM. They are a proud server that fell on hard times with the server transfers. Just like AR, they are there for the fight, slogging and slugging through the week to have fun, and if it so happens that their scores represent this at the end of their match, then that’s just icing on the cake. We played them back when we were T7 and had lots of fun. Sadly they lost numbers and we outgrew them.
T7 is a good tier for small numbers of transfers, and they are enjoying close matchups right now. Small groups will also find NSP to be fun to play against, because they absolutely love telling you about how they don’t zerg and love 5-manning. (Playful jab NSP. Dont get mad.)
I do miss the old GoM/AR/BP days. Those were some awesome fights.

Honestly, I’m a little hesitant to make a Gate of Madness recruitment thread. You will notice that I’m not the only one; no one has made a thread for it yet.
Why is that? Because we like things the way they are.
Gate of Madness has spent the last two months building a WvW server community, and it is finally paying off. We have a lot of guilds involved, almost no drama, great coordination, and we all have a blast playing together. We are all quite proud of what our server has become. We are certainly not opposed to the idea of transfers, but having more people just to have more people does not appeal. We want people to join our community, not just numbers on the battlefield.
With this is mind, this is the current state of Gate of Madness WvW. We will not be a good fit for everyone. That said, if this sounds like something you want to be a part of, we would love to have you on board.
1) We are a small tight-knit server and we like it that way.
Our server community is not unlike a small town, everyone knows everyone. We have a village idiot and everything. We use the server teamspeak not only to coordinate, but also to build relationships between guilds. We don’t have any large guilds, instead we have many small guilds, which work together. Some guilds only have a few members, and yet still make a big impact.
2) We don’t mind losing.
Don’t get me wrong, we do like to win. Ok, we LOVE winning. But that doesn’t mean that the fun stops when we lose. Our server community was built while we were being steamrolled by DH week after week. We are not fair weather players. Our goal is always to do the most that we can, with the resources we have. You can ask any of our opponents, GoM does not quit, and we have a TON of fun, even when we are losing.
3) We don’t take ourselves too seriously.
We play WvW to have fun, and we have a blast. Here are just some of the things which happened recently.
4) We are constantly working to improve.
Every week, an hour before reset, we hold a server wide meeting to discuss tactics: what worked, what didn’t, and what should be try to do next. We also discuss this sort of thing on the server forum. This has really improved us as a server, as we share what we learn with each other, and look for additional ways to improve.
Conclusion

Just a thought, but you could try out a T7/T8 server this week, and then transfer next week if you don’t like it. It won’t cost you anything more.
I wish I could be like, “Come to Gates of Madness, we are exactly what you are looking for.” But I honestly don’t know much about our SEA/AUS crew. I know we have one, that the most visible guild is HH, and that they have been doing quite well lately.

I tested it before WvW went down. You can throw grenades off of a wall without having to stand on the very edge. But unless you’re right up against the lip, the grenades just hit the lip or the ledge. Throwing it up a wall from the ground works just as it did before.
What changed? You get a green circle as long as the landing zone is in range. Whether the grenades make it to that landing zone is a matter of lobbing arc.
So engineers can do AoE damage to attacking zergs/siege without having to stick their head out? I might need to dust off my Engi.

HoD did not get transfers yet, but they will. It is free to transfer to medium pop servers until April 1st.

Free transfers to small sized servers (which I believe includes Henge of Denravi). Wonder what it’ll do to this matchup (or tier 8, for that matter!)!
We need a few more people. Just hope not too much that we get queues on all maps. That would suck and I would prefer no transfers at all.
Hopefully, if we get a few transfers, the population becomes High and no more free transfers will come.
I also think the free transfers will not impact WvW right away. It might come from some disconnected players as a guild transfering would lose it’s influence in Guild Missions.
I’m quite happy for HoD. You guys deserve the boost, you have worked really hard to get where you are.
Selfishly, I don’t want to get steamrolled, but that is nothing new for us at GoM. It will be fun to breakout the guerrilla warfare tactics again, if it comes to that.
Grenade Kit skill: Grenades no longer require the player to have line of sight of the target area to throw them.
This may change sieging/defending towers forever, depending how it works.

I think he means shooting ac through gates to damage both player and the ram. around 4-5 ACs can destroy a ram easy.
Hmmm, how would you defend if AC’s could not hit rams? Is there an exploit I am not aware of? I can think of a few spots that are probably not intended.
You can simply shoot the AC at the gate, and it will hit the rams on the other side, not unlike the cata.
I’m aware you are all posting about public chat but I just wanted to post a reminder that commanders are never suppressed in squad chat.
If the squad system was robust enough, that would solve the problem. As it is, it doesn’t even really have a UI.
It also has serious limitations:
1) 30 player maximum
2) No commander control over who is in the squad
3) It is opt in, WvW communication really needs to be opt out
4) None of the squad functions are intuitive
5) You cannot see other commander tags when in a squad
6) You must have a commander tag visible to the entire map to use a squad
These problems actually make communication harder.
Perhaps tomorrow this will all change, but as it stands now, squads only make things worse.

The truth comes out, now we know why Rob stopped playing.
Darkhaven is in great need of an oceanic presence. For the last two and a half months we haven’t faced an opponent that we can’t handle or be even with during NA primetime and through the weekend. However, we seem to lose our NA daytime/Oceanic primetime during the weekdays. If you are looking for a server where you would make an immediate impact then we are a good choice.
In the last three months Darkhaven has begun to rebuild and rise back up from our fall. We lost a lot of our bigger guilds back at the end of 2012 and were forced to rebuild and educate our new players. As for cooperation our server has had solid communication for the better part of two and a half months. I can’t offer you T1 server numbers or success but I can offer you a place where 50 to 100 quality people will propel this server to the next level.

We on GoM fought Darkhaven for a long time, they would definitely be a good choice for you guys. Not only does Darkhaven have solid numbers (for the tier they are in), they have also developed really good tactics, coordination, and response time, probably because we hit them with aggressive guerrilla tactics for so long.
I’m starting to wonder what will happen to this thread if they decide to enforce the “English only” and “no leetspeak” rules.

I’ve been debating about posting this, but I think it is time.
You are playing a different game than we are. Your goal is kills. Our goal is points. It is as simple as that. We generally call people who play for points, WvW players. We generally call people who play for kills, PvP players.
In WvW, everything is about resource efficiency and time management. A good WvW player intentionally avoids fights, if they are a time-suck away from something more important. A good WvW player spends a lot of time not fighting and instead scouting, building siege, repairing, and coordinating. A good WvW player will even build his character differently, so as to be useful to the big picture, which might mean sacrificing killing power for swiftness or escape abilities.
When WvW players encounter PvP players, they see them as a roadblock, just like walls on a castle or defensive siege. A good WvW player will find the most time and resource efficient way around that roadblock. In this case, overwhelm the PvP players with numbers. It only take a minute or two to do, and the road block is cleared without tying up a lot of resourses or making people run back from spawn from losing to a “fair fight.”
The truth of it is, we don’t care how good you are at killing people. We care about points, and you are no threat there. You are an inconvenience, which is easily countered with superior numbers or running away.
If we WvW players looked at you PvP players and said “We are better than you because we contribute to the server point total,” we would be wrong. You are not playing the same game as us, and that is comparing apples to oranges. You are good at what you intend to do, it is just not the same goal that we have.
Likewise, the opposite is also true. PvP players should not say to WvW players “We are better than you because we win even fights.” That is missing the point. WvW players are not trying to be the best at player killing, we have a different goal. It is entirely possible to be a GREAT WvW player, and lose every 1v1 battle you face. Because WvW is not team deathmatch. Sometimes the best WvW tactic is to intentionally die over and over again just to keep the enemy busy. (In fact, we have done that to you before, sent one or two “sacrifices” to draw you away while we do our work.)
So PAXA, keep that in mind. You do not earn bragging rights when you kill a group of WvW players. We do not earn bragging rights when we steamroll you with numbers. The only way to earn bragging rights is to play the same game, which we are not.
You do realize that WvW needs both your “WvWers” as you explained and the PvPers to be successful, right? Otherwise all 3 servers would be unable to attack one another and it would just be taking objective points. Now that wouldn’t be very fun, now would it?
I carefully defined what I meant by WvW player and PvP player (You can see it above). Playing for points or playing for kills. You can still specialize in player killing and play for points. The difference is in the goal.
And honestly, my experience in WvW leads me to believe that something like 75% of the people there are really terrible at PvP.
That is because we are not playing PvP.
WvW is not as hardcore as PvP. You don’t need leet skills to be helpful and useful to your server. Naturally, PAXA is an elite team. Usually, they are fighting casuals who have no interest in team deathmatch.
That said, PAXA has been great training for us on GoM. People have learned the importance of rezing downed players quickly, and spiking quickly. Overall, GoM is stronger due to our encounters with PAXA, just like GoM is stronger from all our outnumbered battles against DH.
PvP did not originate from warfront time/point/kill limit scenarios. So telling me that WvW is not PvP, you are wrong. 3 factions to kill…It may not be officially called by the Anet team “player vs player world” but it is open world pvp. The only difference between whatever open world pvp game you have played is that the majority of pve is not done in this zone. Just because pve isnt done in this zone doesn’t make it NOT open world pvp…..That being said, it is an open no time limit, no kill limit, no cap limit zone for killing and capturing of “your super tough objectives”….regardless, the fact that you wrote what you wrote just means you’ll never have our perspective of what real player vs player is like. All you will know and continue to know is this :
1. Gather supply
2. Put down blueprints
3. spam build with supply
4. put down more blueprints
5. run for more supply
6. /Map chat “If you are not on my blue dorito, GET HERE NOW!”
7. spam build next siege with supply
8. /Map chat “Guys door is going down in 10 seconds, GET HERE NOW!”
9. Spam 1 and 2 on keep lord
10. /map chat “We should thank commander blue dorito for all this valiant leadership”
11. Gather all 25 of yourselves and run to the next objective on the map
12. Continue this nightly, weekly, monthly, and onto your next MMO as THE way to pvp in open zonesWhat a joke
