As a condi engi main, I am obviously not too happy with these changes. There’s just no reward for playing one of the most difficult classes in the entire game juggling a carpal tunnel inducing rotation once these changes take place.

I really hope there is going to be a substantial nerf to ele as well, otherwise we will see a return of the ye olde “power ele or gtfo” meta. And I really don’t want to return to that meta. I went through all the hassle of getting quip for my engi because i love the class, and I fear that I’ll never get to use it again for my raid premades or any lfgs because all the exp groups are only looking for eles. And as much as I would love to say that is an exaggeration, knowing the exp raiding community, I really can’t.

So retribution for your displeasure of a condition meta nerf is to nerf another class? Nerfs will hit everyone post PoF release so I wouldn’t worry about the future. That said, why is it you think the meta shouldn’t change? Because you say so? Because it affects your gear? Your food? You should adapt to the change just as plenty of power builds have while watching this very long running condi meta dominate the game.

As for your statement about only wanting a particular build… make your own LFG? Do raids and or fractals with your guild? Players not wanting X build is not a balance problem, it is a player problem.

It’s a refreshing change that was needed. However, don’t fool yourself because adjustments being done up until September have more to do with PoF and the meta shifts it may bring than anything else.

I wouldn’t be so sure that runes/sigils will not change for those who are already scrambling to find ways that make up the difference. I would also like to point out that as others on this thread have said there are other game modes away from PvE and this is a very welcome change to try and improve them some. You should also keep in mind that adjustments will be made prior to the PoF release to somewhat regulate what shifts in meta the expansion will bring to the table.

I am not a graphics snob, but I think given the age of the game that the definition is already pretty amazing. It’s a beautiful game even on low settings. I do worry about being able to run PoF maps as HoT can already give me a hard time on lower settings.

All i expect is more skill-less condi spam and braindead passives to carry bad players. Everyone will do ridiculous amounts of damage with little effort because “Mah Raid clear timeZ!” and they refuse to do the sensible thing and separate balance from pve. So we will just suffer the effect of whatever OP crap is needed to clear the new “challenging” pve content.

I can’t wait for the new condi spam mesmer spec to come out, because chrono isn’t broken enough when roaming, lets bring in something that will make the old clone death condi build from way back look fair. And anet seems to have a hard on for making mesmer stupidly broken in wvw with every update because they don’t know how to make it more useful in pve aside from “MOAR DPS SPAM!”, and haven’t yet gotten the hint that we need skill separation from pve. Oh and lets not forget necro that supposedly has more mobility now and will have burns. That doesn’t sound broken at all, because necro is so balanced right now in wvw.

Don’t forget about one of the new stats: power/condi precision/fury. More condi hurray!

Dude, did you notice that PoF’s minimum specs are higher than HoT’s?

I’m playing on a 2011 decent gaming laptop, but I do not have a source of income, and the chances of me getting a decent computer in the future are slim.

I feel like Anet is already going the way of Blizzard; making it impossible for older machines to run their games as expacs are released.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to run PoF at hopefully, the same settings I currently I have on GW2. Otherwise, I could be out of game for a very long time.

I second this concern. I am not in the market where I can afford a new PC and watching everyone talk about increased specifications bothers me. I guess you can get the expansion pack but hang around core Tyria until you can update your hardware. Who wants to do that though?

At the end of the day, it is what it is. It would still be nice to be able to play the new expansion content on at least lowest of settings until I am able to trade up for something better to run the game on.

I have to admit that when I read your thread topic I chuckled to myself a little. Lag has unfortunately been a problem all over the place in WvW for months now. I think it centers around big group fights and not so much one particular server.

I would also like to have the option to ‘buy’ map opening. Could we have the map opened (not necessarily completed), at least so it is easier to find things in an unexplored map?

There are numerous guides to help you find what you need for map completion. There is the wiki for starters. GW2Timer has a full map that shows you everything including map gates. Lulleh (Oopsy) has a great list of all the maps you need for map completion with an entire custom route planned and explained. The ability to buy map discovery on the gem store would break the spirit of map completion and there are those like me who still enjoy it. I was remarking to a guild mate earlier how we get so wrapped up in achievements, WvW, sPvP, rewards, bosses, and so we tend to forget how beautiful this game is put together both visually and musically. Map completion is a way you can recapture some of that beauty.

You could be right. However, there was a pile only a few days ago and they completely moved around the game card display. There is no longer a sales tag for them either. I guess it could be that it’s just the stores in my area (I checked 4 within 25 miles.)

I found out today that Target (US) no longer carries gem cards. I doubt anyone from ArenaNet can comment on this, but if they could I would be curious as to why. As far as I know, Best Buy still carries $15 and $25 cards. Thanks!

I wasn’t trying to be mean. I just simply meant that everyone has a different opinion of how they think skins tend to look so it’s doubtful that ArenaNet will do anything to alter them. ArenaNet doesn’t do much to alter skins when there are issues with clipping that can make it absolutely horrible and not worth transmuting. Charr and Asura, for example, have so many issues with clipping, stretching, and deformities that it can really limit what’s available for you to use.

I guess what you can take away from this is where it would be nice to have multiple versions of a back skin available to use when desired, ArenaNet can barely keep up with one version.

“It looks better as…” is subjective. ArenaNet isn’t going to take the time and effort to change around an entire back based on the opinion of what a player feels will work better with their character design. The only thing that you can do is what we all do when it comes to weapons and backs… design around them.

Raids are hardcore. ArenaNet is limited with what they can do without completely rewriting the entire game engine. Raids were introduced as challenging team content for those who over the years were asking for such a thing. ArenaNet can’t just wave a wand and make everything super hard. There is a lot that goes into creating raid environments, mechanics, and making them work in a setting that’s both challenging and fun.

The fact that hardcore players have learned, mastered, and outplayed most raids now does not negate the fact that raids are intended to be hardcore content. I don’t believe ArenaNet should change an entire game format just to keep about 7-8% of the most vocal content consumers happy. Like it or not, given the engine this game runs hardcore players will never find a challenge that takes them many months to years to master.

I agree with Stinkehund. This was never marketed as a hardcore game and it never will be. There are other less forgiving MMOs out there if that’s what you are into. The actual percentage of highly skilled hardcore players is minor compared to the casual market this game is geared towards.

This not your game. This is not my game. This is ArenaNet’s game and thus it is not geared to cater to what you, I, or any other individual wants just because we want it.

I have to disagree somewhat with the point about high cost. I like to feel like a game that we pay for at some point in time will make items reachable to everyone. That doesn’t mean that it’s always reachable. It’s a good thing for players to be on the look out for old items that make an appearance in some way and if you want it now you have to bite the bullet and do what it takes to get it now.

I am not a fan of skins disappearing and becoming so rare that they are only reachable by the wealthiest of barons in the game no matter the time. This is not life so a comparison to the real life wealthy of society does not apply. This is a game. That being said, everything has a value and I generally like how this game economy works.

These threads have come up a lot over the years. I agree that the old Lion’s Arch was beautiful in its own way. This game is beautiful. There are aspects about this Lion’s Arch that can also bestow beauty if you look for them. Everyone has a different perspective about what they find aesthetically pleasing right down to how you customize your character and this game in many ways really allows players to run wild doing it.

I wouldn’t mind getting enough gold to buy a commander’s tag. At 300g it’s a tad pricey for me, but I have always wanted to get one seeing as how I have been playing WvW for almost 3 years now. It would be a nice tool to have in many situations.

We dont need new blood in WvW, we need old blood back. New players take over half a year to get semi-decent even if they play every night like 4 hours. The meta is way more complex with introduction of extra boonrip, boonshare and condibombs compared to 3 years ago.

The issue is that these people need to start from basics like What is a dodge, what is boonrip, what is stability, why is ranger/thief bad, what is blast/whirl finisher and they take several weeks to learn just one of them. They are simply just too bad to play with for people who have played this game mode for multiple years and gone thro multiple meta shifts.

You wanna be PvE noob and play in WvW? Then adapt, get the build, ask around, I cant name a single person that wouldn’t help with their best judgement, some tips might be bad and some good. There isn’t a single person that didn’t go thro the rage of others when getting better. I remember clearly my favorite commander calling me names when i could carry only 10 supply, but who cares, I played because I liked the game, not because I wanted some virtual gold or skins.

Funny… there are raiders out there that would knock that chip right off your shoulders with what they can accomplish with their class. Where PvE, sPvP, and WvW are different game modes, it does not mean that being a veteran at one makes you elite over those who have spent a majority of time in the other. This is the attitude that is helping to kill WvW so please keep that in mind when you complain about how awful the mode has become.

WvW vets complain for years about how the game mode needs new blood. When changes are made to get that new blood the WvW vets complain about how the new blood is just full of “PvE leechers.” What does one take away from this? WvW vets have a huge chip on their shoulder and they’re part of the problem.

As I said in another thread… WvWers stand in their own way of making this game mode fun and healthy just as much as ArenaNet does with mistakes that have been made. Fast forward prior to the release of the second expansion and I will bet you that WvW will be right back to where it was before the recent competitive patch.

Yea, that’s something I’ve been pointing out that has been constantly happening throughout this game’s history. Just because there are some abusers doesn’t mean everyone should get punished. And then everyone gets nothing.

We need to ditch the malignant sentiment of eternal envy that dominates PvE general topics. Nobody should care that some pvers come and get a few extra chests when they could be afk farming somewhere else for more.

Honestly, WvWers are just as guilty of standing in the way of making WvW a fun and healthy game mode. They will push it all on ArenaNet’s shoulders, but that’s not really an accurate portrayal.

I came back to the game because of the WvW patch. However, I am yet again starting to lose my motivation for logging in as I see the same old problems that continue to plague WvW and make it boring like:

The map blob majority
The condi tank meta
A PvP competitive mode balanced around PvE stat gear
Population imbalances among servers
Passive, autopilot-like combat

There’s always hope with the expansion, but I won’t hold my breath.

ArenaNet is designing PvP combat to be on autopilot. It has been going this way even before Heart of Thorns was released. With the amount of passively defensive and offensive traits along with sigils, condi tanks, stealth, mobility, risk versus reward flew out the window a long time ago.

As for thieves, they have pretty much destroyed the solo/duo roam playstyle. An averagely skilled thief can destroy a lot of builds running around out there and a highly skilled thief can basically destroy 95% of what’s out there. They are far beyond being the king of roaming. Thieves dictate and limit building for roaming because of how powerful they are and I do not believe this is healthy for the game mode.

There is a reason why most of the solo players you see roaming the battlefield these days are thieves over other classes just as there is a reason why most players tend to opt for small group or zerg play over roaming. I’m not sure why you think that you should be able to take on three thieves and survive so that aspect of your OP is confusing to me.

Thief mobility blows away every single class no matter the build of the opposing class by far. You can not match them. High mobility, quick hits, and hard smacks that come out of nowhere are part of the class. That being said the amount of mobility they have depending on the build has far exceeded the class theme. Disengage is also a problem, but not any more than a few other classes I can think of like mesmer. Condi thief (usually in TB) is another problem but falls into the bigger category of how the condi tank meta is sucking the fun out of PvP gameplay in GW2.

Or what if power users should go PvE maps and do that dodge training before they can come WvW? I play vanilla scepter/dagger ele and i don’t have any kind of condi problems. I mainly lose because i am bad player.

I don’t see why people keep saying that it’s too strong. I am currently at platinum and it has taken me all week starting last Friday to get there. The outnumbered bonus comes along every now and again helping to give me that extra push at times. I don’t jump BLs for an outnumbered buff and I don’t AFK. I play normally.

The average WvW player (excluding brand new players) can reach diamond by the end of the week depending on how much they play. That was the whole point of the system, wasn’t it? Some players can reach diamond quicker because there are a few different factors that determine how you get pips.

Reducing the amount that the outnumbered buff gives you will do nothing but punish the players who play the game mode normally. Do you really want to do this?

False, but I understand that sense of perspective can be skewed by personal involvement.

I can barely make Gold chest each week. I don’t think I’ll finish Silver this week, might or might not. While it’s true that a core group of WvW might have the time to invest in playing the game enough to acquire the current 175 pips in a weekend, I’m very certain that it is not true for a very large percentage of the playing population.

In my case, adult gamer with job, house, family, etc. People like me also help fund the game by buying things (re: job, etc).

My biggest complaint about the system is that it’s based on Time Spent Sitting On Your <Kitten>. I admit that I am going to be working towards that backpiece. I have nearly everything except for the Tickets. But do you know how long it will take me if I can only finish Gold chest some but not all weeks? 18 MONTHS.

Aye, I understand that you want to get people involved in the game mode and I think that’s great. I have played a lot of WvW and I really do prefer it to other game modes. But for pete’s sake, if you’re going to put rewards out there for people to reach for, then make them depend on performance and achievement and not sitting on your ass for a forced amount of time.

Why can’t I just progress through to Diamond in my own time and after Diamond go back to wood, cycling though so I can get the bigger rewards slower but eventually? Because I’ll never get to Diamond, because I don’t play this as a full time job.

p.s. an aside, don’t underestimate the need for soldiers, troops, grunts, whatever you want to call us. without the soldiers following, a commander can do little on her or his own. I agree commanders should have perks.

That is nice how you assume that because I can get to diamond within a week that I have no life, no job, and apparently don’t spend anything on the game. I have about $500+ in gem cards over 2 1/2 years that says otherwise.

I also think you missed my point. My point was that there is no need to decrease the amount of pips gained for the outnumbered buff. It just hurts folks like me who could always use the extra pips. I am only a bronze rank. Maybe I should have clarified that.

Reducing the amount that the outnumbered buff gives you will do nothing but punish the players who play the game mode normally. Do you really want to do this?

Yes… that makes perfect sense. Why don’t we just merge everything into three big servers who fight each other all of the time and be done with it. Oh right, something like that already exists.

They should find a way to prevent people from abusing the buff. This does not mean that they should reduce the current outnumbered buff amount. Why should I be punished as somebody who plays WvW normally everyday for what abusers are doing? You guys are going to get it reduced to garbage and end up turning the pip system into yet another worthless attempt by ArenaNet to breath life into a dying game mode.

I wonder how many people who are asking for the buff amount to be reduced are already at top rank in WvW… Why should you all care? You all get a decent amount of pips regardless. Be careful what you wish for…

Food can reduce condi duration on you by 20%. Rune of hoelbrak, melandru, resistance, antitoxin, and nature’s bounty can reduce condition duration by 20, 25, 15, 24 and 15% respectively. That’s 35-45% condition damage reduction if you never use a cleanse. There are traits that reduce cripple/chill/immob by 25, 33 or 66% or just remove them outright. While not DoTs, these help ensure that your cleanses actually clear the damaging ones.

So the answer to the condi tank meta is to throw build diversity out of the window and build entirely defensive to mitigate condition damage? Who wants to play that game? Can you build entirely for mitigating condition damage? Yes… and you will also hit like a wet noodle, in most cases give no support to your group, and overall be a worthless tank roaming around WvW with no real role in small skirmish, roaming, or zerg play.

I understand what you’re saying. I frown on match manipulation of any kind. It’s not something that allows any PvP mode to shine as competitive and fun. Forcing yourself down the ladder far enough where you can guarantee a win is a sad way to go about healthy competition.

As for one up, one down bringing more of that type of behavior… who knows. If it does, it will just be yet another nail in the coffin of what could otherwise be a fun game mode.

I give ArenaNet credit for trying it out. It seems to be desired by a portion of the WvW community. However, I don’t see it lasting as a solution. We shall see I suppose.
