By your post history, you’re a WvW player and apart from the WvW forum, you appear to be most interested in thief and revenant…

So, from a WvW perspective… was there anything about staff in WvW that actually warranted this change? Because it’s been virtually unseen in PvE or sPvP for a while now. I’d genuinely like to know if there was an actual call that this was OP by anyone, anywhere, that justifies this, or whether it was purely a dartboard nerf.

Because this change has pretty much guaranteed it will never be used in any other mode, and even for WvW, mightstacking can be done by other means.

Now, if the damage had been raised to something like Lightning Whip levels, I could kind of understand it. But at the moment, it feels like ‘demise’ is an appropriate term. They’ve basically boonsmited it, but in all game modes, and as far as I could see, with no indication that it was causing a problem beforehand.

Lets all be honest here (and yes I’m primarily a WvW player), the basis of the complaints about this nerf has everything to do with the fact that pressing “one” no longer will automatically fill your inventory up with loots bags… basically gaining free stuff just by being tanky enough to run through an opposing zerg while tagging downs.

You’re right that no one really “complained” that staff one was over powered before. But it just comes across as hilarious that people on this forum are finding just about every excuse for why this nerf should be reversed while refusing to admit the real reason… that it affects their wealth gain in WvW.

You summed it up quite nicely. It’s called lazy players used to being lazy being forced to actually not be lazy anymore. (A shorter version of your explination)

I would like to keep the territory dividers, but I would not mind seeing an opacity slider in the graphical options for them as some have suggested. Either that or have the overall thickness of the lines reduced and the color toned down some.

ha, even cooler to see Maguuma capture Pangloss camp then go on the hill next to the camp and glide into Ogrewatch (which they don’t own), and capture it without having to set up a single piece of siege. Just glide into the tower from the hill beside it and before the ‘out of bounds’ can bring them out of the sky they are inside the tower. Gotta love it!

They may not have a way of splitting the penalty and if the choice is to not have one or have one that unfortunately penalizes who you are talking about then I vote for the latter. There must be things in place to at least try and prevent bandwagon server hopping as unfortunate as some of the unintended side effects may be.

That would be up to the creator of the editor. You may want to post on (gag) reddit. I believe most of the third party designers regularly update and post there. He usually tends to update his site, but sometimes it takes a little while for it to happen. He also has a guest book which you can post in directly and possibly even get a response.

If it happens I would say it’s probably more than a year post expansion. That’s basically how long gliding took. If it becomes highly requested ArenaNet’s WvW team will probably look into the work required to make it possible and weigh that against cost and resources. Apparently, gliding seemed worth the time, effort, and resources for a much-requested feature.

Not to have the exact same skin. A different skin? Maybe. (I actually said that in my post.) But not the exact same skin. I don’t think that’s a good idea at all. I don’t think that’s going to happen anyway and I think ArenaNet already learned from the first design that it’s a lot harder than they figured it would be while in the end the final result only got a mediocre response from the community. I see this going forward (if there are going to be more) as the way legendary armor is done.

I don’t believe WvW should have the same skin as raid armor. They’re for raids. What would be the point of that? Should WvW have a skin that is equally as flashy? Maybe. You will find that most WvW players don’t really care that much about the skin aspect as they do about swapping stats.

As for time, I don’t know. It seems long to me. The ticket part seems about right as compared to LI caps (if I have researched correctly.) However, if you include all of the other gating, the grandmaster marks, etc. I feel like WvW legendary armor will far surpass the time and cost average of raid armor. Of course, there are a lot of factors that would determine what that is and I don’t raid. That having been said, I would welcome ArenaNet to revisit the time and cost requirements to see if they are indeed following along a fair path with raids.

For those that want to discuss skill… you’re being silly. There isn’t a fair comparison unless you do both and I doubt there are many who can find the time to be both serious raiders and serious WvW players. Even if you did do both there are still so many variables that fall into what you would consider skill for both modes that it’s impossible to come up with flat facts. Each side can offer points and counter points and it likely ends up in a stalemate. I offer these points:

  • WvW’ers… we have stat swapping armor now. Be happy. Rejoice.
  • Raiders… enjoy your raids. Be proud of what you accomplish there and worry not about what somebody else has.

It is amazing how lazy players get when they are comfortable with an easy style of play and that style of play is finally tuned up to require a little (and yes I do mean little) bit of work. Guard is dead? Really? Because why? Because they cut the range on your AA so that you actually have to put some work into tagging enemies? This right here is the lazy, lowest common denominator gameplay that ArenaNet keeps catering too which turns what could be fun, competitive, and engaging fluid action combat into skill spam, mindless AoE bomb madness.

I updated my post. The T3 armor is just for the skin. You don’t need it for legendary upgrading. You were showing both. I apologize. I missed that somehow. On a personal note, I think the T2 method is the best way to go.

I think you use the T2 regular triumphant armor not the T3. I am pretty sure that’s what Grant said.

Exotic > T2 > Lengendary Upgrade

The following PvP and WvW ascended armor can be upgraded to allow stat swapping:
• Triumphant Hero’s Ascended Armor
• Mistforged Triumphant Hero’s Ascended Armor

So it’s actually both.

  • The Triumphant Armor Box and Legacy Armor Box exotics now give Heart of Thorns stats if you own Heart of Thorns.
    • If you already chose stats on the exotic gear, you will need to earn the exotic gear again to choose different stats.

This is a very nice change and it means that players who can’t afford all ascended at the moment can gear up with their preferred HoT stat in exotic armor by doing reward tracks. Nice job!

I like them as well for the very reason that Balthazzarr stated. Even if we did not have gliding I would still find them useful. All they really need to do is lessen the thickness of the lines and tone down the color brightness.

I agree that the use of the term bully was probably a bad idea. Also, you have to concede that where the role has been muddied somewhat by gank squads there are still roamers (solo and groups) who do a lot for the server. They scout, try and trim down zergs, try and pull zergs away from particular areas, cut off supply by taking camps and so on.

I really think some people would be happy to have one flat map. No trees. No wildlife. No objectives or siege. Just a solid ground without any hills or rocks where massive groups of 50 can run into each other without anything in their way. How about the GvG crowd realizing that it was never a thing in ArenaNet’s eyes and moving on? A map like that wouldn’t be WvW. It would be dull and boring.

If it’s done right and doesn’t give a particular advantage to one side then I welcome the change because change is good. That’s how MMOs stay alive… change. What about the ones that die? They are the MMOs that never bothered to change and adapt.

Roaming: Who, what, why, how? #Discussion

I don’t think it should be called bullying. It is just a game. That being said I think the point that Jumpin Lumpix is trying to make is that the “good fights” claim that a lot of roamers want to make these days is pretty hilarious if you watch how they “roam.” The roaming role is full of gank squads now that actively hunt down players they can destroy for an easy bag. They’ll go so far as to bait players and seek them out countless times on a map because they know so long as those players are on the map it’s an easy bag for them. Of course, it’s up to you to find ways around them.

We all know that during the slow times on any map (or at least EB) there is always that group players that hang around your keep, hiding different places looking for a quick pick off of players in transit or solo roamers heading out trying to get a camp or turn a sentry. It is in most cases shooting fish in a barrel.

In the end, it’s the complete annihilation of balance that has given roaming such a bad reputation because a very big portion of your roamers these days use broken class mechanics with broken builds.

[Suggestion] Tag icon changes

One way to give more desire towards obtaining a tag would be allowing tags to represent different functions. For example:

Siege Commander (Players leading defending groups)
Operations Commander (Havoc, roaming group, or guild raid)
Battle Commander (This would be what commander is now)

Each icon could be given a simple design that best represents the function of the tag. Nothing would be more impressive than seeing a server working together as each commander fills a role in order to help the server compete. For example, you see a battle commander leading a blob while an operations commander leads his or her guild raid. While this is going on you see a siege commander getting ready for an attack at a keep or tower. This would give more direction for players instead of just “follow the tag.”

I am sure this will probably never see the light of day, but I tried to think of something small that could be used as a tool to help bring servers together and work more efficiently to create a fun and competitive game mode.

Zerging is not the problem with WvW

I somewhat agree that big blobs are favored. Walls are a very good example. Walls favor blobs attacking the structure instead of giving defenders the advantage by having the high ground. If you have enough range pressure in your group you can keep enough pressure on the walls that it’s virtually impossible to man siege, build siege, or in general defend without getting completely melted. AoEs should never have been allowed to cover the entire top of the wall front to back. Wall height of at least keep inner walls should be raised high enough that you can not thwart defending simply by skill AoEs alone.

A lot “roaming” now is groups of 6-8 players building an absurdly broken group composition while hunting down PUGs to bait into a gank for an easy bag and +2 points. They are out there in different variations and they are not really looking for “good fights.” Of course, they will swear up and down that’s what they’re doing. Sure, that group of two condi mesmers, a condi thief, and condi warrior where the mesmer pops stealth while the thief baits out that player thinking it’s just a thief were just looking for good fights. Sure they were!

There are some havoc groups that do in fact take camps, towers, and try and contribute to the overall effort of the server. Depending on what tier your server falls in they can be very hard to find. Broken balance among many class mechanics and skills regarding small scale fighting has eroded the meaning of what being a roamer is over time. Will that change? I seriously doubt it.

There are mumblings that ArenaNet may be changing the way that we get armor and weapon drops. The change would be getting unidentified drops instead of actual armor and weapons which can either be salvaged for mats or identified at a heart vendor. These unidentified drops are rumored to stack. This would be a very welcome change for inventory management and leaves me curious (if it is true) with a few questions:

1.) Will this just be for PoF maps or all of core Tyria and HoT zones?
2.) How high will these white/blue/green/(yellow?)/(orange?) stack?
3.) How will this be compromised so as not to make equipment bags obsolete?

It is just a rumor so it may not even be true. However, if it is I can’t see anyone not getting behind this change.

The main objective of publishers and developers is to make money. It’s not to make players happy by only needing to spend the initial cash for the game or the expansion pack. MMOs don’t survive off initial game purchases. They survive off of additional money sunk into the game for convenience items or cosmetics. That’s what keeps the game rolling and development moving forward. Would it be nice to see a glider skin or two as an achievement? Sure. That’s never going to happen nor will it for mounts if mounts are indeed able to be skinned.

Same here. I logged in this morning on both of my characters in the guild and everything was fine. I log back in after the reset and I’m kicked out. I couldn’t remember the guild leader’s account name, so I couldn’t send him a letter asking him what’s going on. Heck, I even asked on the guild’s Facebook page what’s going on.

It’s strange indeed. It happened to me while I was in WvW. I had just claimed a camp for EviL about a minute before it happened. I am sure it’s nothing good. That was a huge guild alliance!

If deathly chill isnt nerfed and dire/trailblazer stats isnt changed it’s not a balance patch. It’s the single most OP condi trait and people are abusing the most bunker/max condi damage armor stats in the game with condi builds.

Yet nothing of this is mentioned.

WvW is truly kittened for balance.

Will we ever have anything resembling balance? Will Anet ever admit that WvW is not PvE?

There are rumors in the necro world that ArenaNet is going to change the reaper tree to a more power oriented line. The DC GM trait would be a part of this change. They are just rumors of course.

This was already kinda confirmed in the livestream yesterday. During Wooden Potatoes segment where he was going over some of the elite specs, he mentioned condi Reaper and Deathly Chill are getting nerfed. He said, “Reaper should not be in that condi space, at all. And that’s what they have done…” “…Bitter Chill* has been nerfed from Reaper, but there has been substantive changes elsewhere in the traits…” (Note* he says “Bitter Chill”, but he was mousing over Deathly Chill)

Here's the point in the stream where he mentions this and he talks a little more about other things they’re doing with Necro/Reaper.

So here is my question.

Obviously the stat changes are a direct result of Arena Net’s mistake in the last balance and now that I have spent a few hundred gold to convert several toons from power to condi (thank god I didn’t do all of them). Since arena net is making a change that impacts so many people and it was their miscalculations I don’t feel I should be financially responsible for this.

What will Arena Net do to compensate people for their time and effort wasted. Put simply my time is worth money, I spent that money because of balance changed that you made in error and ALL people and business in life are held accountable

My suggestion is a free stat change item for sets of gear changed to be able to change them back. Yes its a lot of data, yes it will probably require work on Anets part but I swapped over 4 sets and between freshwater pearls, and black diamonds I want compensation.

oh and I would really like a response its too often that I have gotten no response from Arena Net when I have a question that they don’t care for.

ArenaNet will do nothing. They owe you nothing. Meta shifts happen in every game and it is up to the player to adapt to them. We have all lost some investment over the years due to shifts in the game. You’re not special over anyone else just because now it happens to be your gold, effort, and time.
