Yeh… Dat warden bug.
Need a bit of zen time now.
Well… We could make everything a bit more like the fractal skins, eh?
Jk.
Although it’s obviously a joke that you end up owning a legendary before having any fractal skins.
Have a merchant spawn at the end of level 50 fractal or something in which you can exchange the pristine relics for specific skins. Or have that merchant spawn on whichever level fractal with the most obnoxious instability or whatever.

I’m a bit worked up by this because the difference it makes is minimal and tedious.
So now AC p2 boss cannot be reflected. So what? FGS rush, die, rally off boss. The time of the encounter has practically no difference ever since the boss takes damage.
As far as interestingness goes, it’s like adding reflectable attacks to bosses without one. Since there was never the need to bring guardian in AC p1 for instance, even if they have reflectable attack, there wouldn’t be any need to bring a Guardian or a Mesmer still.
Next in Anet’s amazing progression: no more reflectables in CM.
Don’t know what you mean, the spider queen is still pretty easy. You can still safely kill her with 3 people running dps meta assuming you bait the 1st venom spray but I am sure even that is not necessary. It’s the p2 part with Detha and the traps that concerns me when it comes to pugs in AC.
Pugs hardly do p2 in the first place.
I’ve already got 3300 AP proud
No more kicks in PUG fractals!
Ok, I have to comment on this, it’s been almost a month since coming here last…..is this -still- going?
Dat new bingo line
Die. Favoriting is OP.
Blurred Frenzy vs Phase Retreat — I hate how telegraphed BF is in PvP but very useful in PvE. Maybe I have to hand it down to PR given the versatility of how it can be used.
Blink vs Portal — dat blink vs one the best mobility skills in the game. Given how Portal becomes more and more the defining skill of Mesmer both in pve and pvp I’d have to give it to Portal
Temporal curtain vs null field — for now I probably have to choose TC. Reasons later
Can’t contain myself.
Yesterday there was a PUG thief who must’ve thought holy crap revealed training is such an awesome trait.
Result: in the middle of the golem fight in CoE, he used SR whilst in S/P.
That honestly made my day.

:)

That bothers me as well (but to be fair, I don’t get that many smilies in PUGs. Thankfully. Just the usual indifferent silences).

Obviously not “no choice” since I did the achievement with a different setup. Using fear me, the mini-oozes will be nowhere near the Subject 7.

Full zerk
Axe/Sword + Mace
I used:
Fear me, frenzy, endure pain, healing signet, signet ulti.
I got it while I wasn’t even trying though.
Pop signet ulti just before the start of the match. Iirc, I started it off with gs 4, 5, pop frenzy, endure pain, gs 2. When gs 5 is off CD, fear me. GS 5, gs 2, 3, swap mace 5, axe 2, mace 4, eviscerate.
Maybe I did it differently right now I can’t really recall.
Remember food buffs and I was using full zerk, rending strikes, forceful gs + last chance in the arms traits.
I was using full zerk scholar and force night weapons so obviously nothing optimal there.
I love D/F in sPvP. I tend to switch to DD for WW still though.
Ok, I admit it, I play a ranger that would qualify as “BearBow” (I just learned what that term meant from this thread). It is just one of my toons but I do have one and I do play it that way but I normally play WvW with it. I had toyed with going into some dungeons with it but from what I am reading now, that would not be the best class to bring.
I’m ok with that I guess and I understand all the valid remarks about the Ranger’s strengths or lack there of. Understanding that could someone please post a build that you would accept in your group? Granted I don’t pug as I have a good guild support system but I don’t want to short change them by bringing in a class that will not be supportive.
I run a full berserker build, glass cannon style right now. I thought I did a lot of damage but I guess not enough. What does the sword bring to the table that the greatsword doesn’t? (honestly curious)
There’s a good start.
I’m kinda not bothered about the bloodlust stack anymore, though. All the bloodlust weapons that I have now are from the pre-patch. I don’t think it’s a big deal and Night+Force is definitely cheaper than Night+Bloodlust/Force+Bloodlust.
I would have if I could. Aw.
Another time. Looking forward to be the recipient of your generosity!
P2 > P3?
I question it because P3 is the same zergstack last boss as a lot of the other quick-run paths.
P2 has the environmental gimmick (which I loathe), that slows the fight down quite a bit.Granted, we’re not going to see actual strategy combat until we get new dungeons/encounters that split up the players with simultaneous objectives.
P3 is so awfully boring because of the long timegated event on the burrows. Setting up one trap is nothing remotely close to the dreadfully boring p3.
It’s the same reason why CoF p3 is more fun than CoF p2.
If your concern is pure DPS then obviously it’s axe mace.
The 2nd weapon set for a warrior should consider utility more than DPS.
Mace 5 is gd utility.
Therefore sword warhorn for highest mobility, sometimes axe-sword for Lupi (or if the DPS loss isn’t so significant go sword-sword. Why not? So nice to use that sword 2 in 3rd phase. Of course you can just use the axe eviscerate instead).
Longbow when people lack a fire field starter. Or if they can benefit from the immob, etc.
ps: Im curious, can you tell me what kind of encounter would need strategy and teamwork? An example from WoW or other well known MMO’s is fine too.
AC path 2. It requires fairly exact coordination that’s frustrating as hell with a PUG.
…And that’s why speedrunners don’t do it. That path will never be “efficient”, so it gets ignored.
Basically, it doesn’t matter if all the dungeons suddenly had interesting mechanics and environmental triggers, the path of least resistance will get the most attention.
Even in WoW, there are some bosses that are little more than tank-and-spank. They serve as basic DPS gates to harder content.
I’d rather do p2 than p3 any day.
I see. The only thing I fear while that may be a good (or better?) way to learn is that if you die TOO much, you might as well just 4 man an instance haha (which I’ve done in the past…except it was 2 people constantly laying on the floor ._.). But I do get what you’re saying. I honestly wish there were a noobie guide around for basic things that’d help fresh 80s. Time to go forum digging. \o/
DnT streams their runs. GW2dungeons gives you lots of information of what you can do for different classes.
Many dungeon mentors in Noob are there to hold your hand and based on testimonials, they’re superbly patient.
I learned about the fight on Lupi from YT, but honestly, it’s nothing compared to practicing it yourself, especially duo-ing or trio-ing for the best learning experience. Unfortunately, this isn’t something that PUGs can help you achieve…
And I know some people go into the extreme deep end immediately, attempting to solo Arah, and then failing, and then grudgingly become even discouraged to join 5-man runs. So, you know… Know your limits as well
(edited by xallever.1874)
Why zerk/knight? Go full zerk. Would you rather spend all that money on some zerk/knight and then realise that you will eventually spend more money replacing them with zerk?
Flame legion runes set is the best replacement for the then ruby orbs alternative.
For fractals, superior strength runes are better than scholar’s (and the price shows… unfortunately).
Some problems with the rune of the ogre: the rock dog that is randomly summoned when you do dungeons can screw up the stacking.
Ah right! I thought about traits but for some reason neglected to even mention them haha. I guess I sort of tunneled on the armor part and forgot not only about the traits, but weapons as well.
In all honesty, I’ve been running into people that are just coming back to the game so their quite similar to me as in not being the cream of the crop so to speak and learning the ropes. I was heavily biased about the gear department but started trying new things and liking the numbers that came out (even with a mix of zerk rare gear and assassin exotics). Hell, I’m trying to figure out how the one dude (ok I know she’s a female from her video ._.) got that 49k fire grab…kinda wanna hit the big numbers myself.
@Digi, I’m glad to see someone else started in partial knights to learn. I’ve recommended that to 1 or 2 people as I knew from doing a fractal with them that they didn’t try to avoid red circles (even if you’re new to an instance, you usually try to avoid the “danger” signs) so that’s reassuring.
I honestly still find myself putting on cleric gear sometimes during parts I KNOW a group usually has trouble with but I switch to dps gear when I feel comfortable.
On a different note, are conditional builds in general bad for PvE? So far, I’ve noticed things die pretty fast depending on who’s experienced and such so that the DoT spells of say necros or eles wont be all that great but what about for longer fights?
Many people started off not knowing any better. I know for a fact that someone who’s now in a speedclear guild used to run a cleric’s AH Guardian cough.
Personally, I advocate learning using full zerk and die learning in the process (immediately down into the deep end of the pool so to speak). It helps you to know immediately what you can or cannot afford to do whilst in full zerk.
The problem with condi damage is the cap and how other people’s condis will be able to override your condi damage. It’s kinda viable for solo play where you don’t have those problems.
Use zerker equipment, might stack before you enter the arena, summon earth ele, change the ulti to FGS.
Use signet of fire and LH (constant blinds so don’t worry about your health).
When the Chomper is about to go for the meat, use LH 3 to deny. If you need to, you can also use LH 5.
Battle is an option if you’re doing fractals/pugging where the might isn’t easily capped.
For PvE, diversity is in the traits for the most part.
To the OP, if you’re wondering why Rangers are shunned, you will know by the fact that there are so many people here not agreeing with sw/wh + gs, spotter, frost, etc.
Amazing how some people even went as far as saying that Ranger isn’t a stacking class.
In organized settings, the Ranger is bound to pick up a conjured weapon from the Ele so the sword problem isn’t such a big deal.
If it’s a casual run and you absolutely critically need to time your dodges, then just use GS. In speedruns, it’s easy to imagine that dodges are usually unnecessary due to active damage mitigation.
We got new gm traits
If I hadn’t completely wiped the floor with every single thing you said, you wouldn’t have said anything like that, but thanks to your lack of counterargument, you now just want to slink away.
I stopped the aurgument because of A) it is off topic,
continuing this converstion would only result in more personal attacks against each other, and anyone else who wanted to join in, and C) It’s counter productive. Clearly beserker DPS is the fastest way to clear content. Period. Ripping apart my build and/or any other build because you don’t like it for whatever reason only serves to create dissention, and nothing more.
Furthermore, it’s this attitude that I was refering to ealier. It serves no purpose other than to stroke the ego of such players who get their jollies from putting down other players. I understand its not the entire beserker community, not saying it is. But the fact remains that it is there, and does more damage to the game as a whole than any broken mechanics and meta builds will ever do.
Why do people confuse the mindset so much?
It’s not that we like it therefore it’s efficient. We like efficiency, and then we figure out what builds are in favor of that. It’s PHIW’s that tend to bring up anything objective into something personal.
If people make builds which are suboptimal, and if they know it, I’m betting that they wouldn’t get flamed on as much if they just wrote a disclaimer: this is a “fun” suboptimal build for people to use if they want to.
None of us would touch that. But many suboptimal builds are being posted and are ignorantly suboptimal and then pretend that it’s the optimal choice only if you play it “properly”.
Do you really think that those pathetic number of all bosses in dungeons + open world PvE is going to prove that CC is viable? And to go even further, 1 interrupt and then I have to waste 5 skills to get off the defiant stack? Not to mention some bosses even when interrupted has so low CD on their abilities it doesn’t make it worth while….
Control in PvE is pretty lacking, trying to prove it otherwise will take some convicing.
Convincing you, that is.
+ Mai Trin.
CoE golem.
Ooze boss in thaumanova
(edited by xallever.1874)
shield 4 initial CC
shield 5 flamethrower
HB gate with 25 stacks of might
???
Profit!
I’m not saying that shield can’t mitigate the damage, but the knockback is more beneficial for your team.
I prefer not to trigger defiance on the champ before the fight even starts, plus if you CC too early (the split-second tell is extremely unforgiving) you don’t interrupt the skill, and they end up using it on you/your party anyway. Plus, free might.
I’m talking about the cof one
How the Bingo spreads far beyond :O
as a guard you can just pull the wolf with block/invuln, makes it faster because you don’t have to wait for slow npc to aggro
This is half the reason I use axe/shield on my warrior.
(Not literally half)
Block->might is nice. Better in CoF, with the trigger-happy flamethrower dudes that can get you to 25 stacks in 3 seconds. But yeah, hoping for an odd, quick CoE run is the reason I still run CoE.
You really should mace 5 them instead of blocking.
Got a fractal skin on level 38 =X
In WvW, the rune has some use for Mesmers when roaming. The mobility of centaur runes is better, but that’s only when you’re not in combat. When in combat, some Mesmers may run the mender’s purity trait, so timing the heals for cleanse can easily be more important than to keep up the swiftness. You don’t have to worry abt that if you’re using traveler’s.
Can I just say I’m looking forward to the updated videos of the new fractals
It seems that Anet listened to the Agony and scaling the difficulty not by simply ramping up the hp.
I did a lvl 50 maw and the mobs that spam confusion don’t disappear. They still do in lvl 49.
So the whole point of your thread is go for flame legion runes instead of strength because they are cheaper?
Ikr
TL;DR
Yes

Guardians have better DPS than Mesmers and there aren’t many places where you absolutely require null field in dungeons.
The fact that they have better DPS would mean that you probably don’t even need to have as many condition cleansing because the encounters could last shorter.
Mesmers can potentially have a more reliable and better reflect uptime than Guardians, yes, but also bear in mind that the iWarden is very bugged at the moment.
If you absolutely require reflects, usually a Guardian is sufficient and if it’s sufficient, it’s already the better option.
That leaves the Mesmer with the Portal. The absolute reason to still run Mesmers in speedclears.
On top of that, Guardians can easily provide the team with aegis rotations and stability if needed.
I didn’t see 4 arms…
I did receive a Scarlet slaying potion from Lilith!
#truestory
Why all the recent necros :/
Bingo!
Actually, I probably exploited my Bingo game…
I did see a warrior using killshot in TOL. That’s about it, though. It has slightly better DPS for single target, but none of the awesome utilities of a Longbow.
In PvE (dungeons), there’s no weapon out there that can be better used as a troll for a warrior
Did anybody else experience this?
At least 3 of us experienced it simultaneously when we were doing a dungeon run today.
I’ve been getting intermittent lags earlier, disappeared for a while, and then it just got really bad.
Asuraaaaaaaaaaaaaaa
Any name suggestions, I’m struggling, and I don’t want some random garbage name.
Urgh. Don’t rely on me, but if I’ve come up with one I’ll get back to you.
Why don’t you share with us some of the names you’ve thought of?
