Future instrument ideas!

Hello Anet!

It’s been a while since the Bass Guitar was released, and I was wondering when the next musical instrument will come!

Ever since the implementation of that very custom Charr-inspired Bass, I’ve always thought how cool would be if we got more racial inspired instruments. Clearly humans got everything covered now with the previous ones, here some brainstorm on the others:

Asura would fit perfectly with some high-tech instrument. Keyboard synth with that peculiar asuran golem style would be awesome. Plus, would have a unique sound that no other instrument got.

For Norn, I think maybe a bagpipe can fit their flavor pretty nice!

For Sylvari, I could think of panflute, but we have a flute already. Maybe a violin styled in salad way.

How about some more ideas?

Anet, medium armor!

My favorite professions happen to be medium armor wearers, and surely I’m not alone in this: our armor class is the most limited in style!

While heavy is pretty homogenic in the sense that almost everything looks plate, it DOES have a lot of different silhouettes to pick from. Light armor is at the best. There you can choose from very distinct styles and some even look like heavy or medium armors.

Now, we come to what Engineers, Thieves and Rangers got to wear, we are basically tunneled into trenchcoats salvo for a couple (even less if you are male).

What I’m asking is for you guys to think about the future medium sets with some more variety. We have too many trenchcoats; how about something that resembles a chest protector now or even a leather jacket? We have many pants options, how about something that appear to be like a kilt? I’m sure some female characters would welcome a bit more heel height in their shoes instead of only relying on Magitech Boots for that.

Also, helmets that are not eyepatches or masks; I think half of the medium wardrobe is composed by those.

I could go even bolder and ask (since heavy and light got choices to look like other armor classes), for an option that resembles light armor.

My 2 cents:
- Dragon’s Tooth gotta be targeted, period. Right now it seems like the hardest version of a targeted spell.
- Drake’s Breath: while that may just be me, I highly dislike that skill being part of Dagger weapon because to be used effectively, it seriously hinders your movements, more specifically dodges. Make it not break on dodge and it will be mostly fine.

If you don’t like it, don’t do it.
Start your own LFG saying no stack, and kick anyone who does.

I don’t like stacking, but unfortunately that’s the best way to deal with bosses, regardless of your preferences. The only thing to do is really fix this stacking mechanics somehow.

I was wondering about swapping the sword main hand for scepter, as the build constantly favor clone production to apply conditions and testing all over, I barely stood still in place to benefit from Sword 2 (wich roots me). Scepter 2 seemed more useful to me because I can use it on the move, plus 3 applies a nice stack of conditions and 1, although slow, adds to the clone factory. Yes, I do less dps than with sword, but since it’s solo, I don’t mind killing stuff in a longer timing, but safer.

For offhand I switch between focus or pistol, depending on the enemies.

For utility signet to increase condi dmg+ mirror images + either feedback or signet to increase boon dur., depending on what I’m against

The problem is, dungeoning in GW2 is the only group content that I really have to work my kitten out to get through. The rest of the world content, I can just sit there and spam 1 avoiding whatever red circles coming at me and get loot. Yes, I – can – work my kitten out and help the zerg fight better but if I don’t, it will barely me missed.

Theoretically dungeoning would suffice the hunger of having to work to get results, BUT I don’t really feel compelled to do them unless I’m starving for gold for these reasons:
- Hacky runs everywhere, using mob resets, glitches, etc. I really feel like cheating the game, and honestly every pug demands you to know/do these things to be sucessful.*
- Zerg meta being required.
- Boss stacking to eat through it. Seriously, having to stack to get the best results of a fight is really boring.

  • Before flames: I have a guild that enjoys doing normal runs on exp modes, but they aren’t avaliable all the time, so most of the dungeon runs I do are pugs. I’ve tried to lead my own “normal” dungeon pugs, but I often sit on queue forever because the dungeon-hungry players don’t want.

TLDR? Anet doesn’t need to release raids, but they do need to improve the dungeon experience of explorable modes.

So, I’ve been back to the game and while I don’t want to change from Mesmer, I’d like to feel like a new character, so I’ve bought a total makeover kit.

I’ve been messing around during like 3 hours and came up with 3 options, below as attachments.

Wich one you like most?!

I’d really like to be a male with cool long hair, but humans don’t have such options (anet seem to give all cool male hairstyles to norn) – I think this option is the coolest medium mane. For a girl, I really like the three last released faces, as they look the same, but with different makeup, I really like the lipstick one, apparently not too many people go for it. (maybe it’s the lips making the manga-girl stereotype look older :P); at the same time, the more clean face without moving any of the sliders and using tomboy hair reminds me a lot of model Twiggy, wich is my girl crush. In the end, can’t really decide yet and wanna hear your opinion!

I firmly believe that outfits should be highly iconic, representing a specific character, wich some are, but a lot aren’t. Stuff like Balthazar (even though it’s very thematic), Mad King, Daydreamer, Crystal Nomad, clearly belong to armor skins in my opinion. Said that, there are a few iconic figures I think could fit:

- School uniform that is different depending on your race
- Clown/Harlequin
- Gangster
- Dancer (something like a RL tango dancer outfit)
- Bard

I kind of agree with you, but I don’t think is THAT limited as options offered.

Yes, I think anet should evaluate the amor style offered. For women, light armor always come either as a bikini or as a ball gown. I like those, but I also like more different stuff. For example, light armor has no simple pants for women like medium does.

Second, outfits. While I like that they exist, Anet barely releases any actual armor set now, wich is REALLY disappointing. Amor sets are far more desirable than outfits because you can mix-match stuff.

I was thinking that outfits were meant to be really outfits, like Cook, Pirate, Mad King, Witch, etc… yet we kind of see plenty that visually does not really fall into the category of somehow impersonating an iconic figure, such as Daydreamer, Crystal Nomad, Shadow Assassin (kind of), Balthazar, Anise’s clothing etc. When I see those, I only think how great they would be as actual skins. Just those 5 examples would provide a huge amount of options by mix-n-matching. Also, just make them “global” skins, so medium and heavy users would benefit too, as most of them clearly would belong to light category.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: yhvh.8703

yhvh.8703

Ultimately, I think the truth is that this is essentially a “Bring the class/weapon(s)/build.” game (and then play in a very formulaic way); rather than a “Bring the player.” (and then play in a more freeform/flexible way) game.

Actually in this game having a “good/solid” build will never make a player better. Player skill is more important than gear or build, so it’s actually a “Bring the player” game and not a “bring the class/weapon(s)/build” game.

A good player in blue/green gear will outperform a bad player in full ascended. Proof? Good players run dungeons naked, good players finish the hardest dungeons naked using only Rangers will longbows and bear pets.

I’m not disputing any of that, but that doesn’t stop people requiring people to use certain classes/weapons/builds etc. in group situations.

Or people viewing one class/weapon/build as superior to another.

Maybe you should just not group with those people.. There will ALWAYS be people who want to do things the quickest and mos efficient way, complaining they exist and asking the game be changed so they can’t is pretty stupid.

Stop complaining and form your own groups with your own parameters.

What if you’re not the type of leading a group?

I don’t complain about speedruns, though, because it’s usually advertised. I do think it’s bad for these groups to rely on exploits to do their job. These exploits are not supposed to happen regardless.

Meta's and exploits are killing this game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: yhvh.8703

yhvh.8703

I’ve made a thread last month about how bad exploits are… got flamed by 99% of the posters there. I strongly agree that Anet should fix the dungeon mechanics to avoid this.

IT’S COUNTER INTUITIVE.

I felt bad when I was a new player and didn’t knew about any of these “hack runs”, knows as: resetting mobs, doing wall things, exploiting stuff. I still feel bad for the new people that don’t know this stuff and end being the only ones that can’t cross a mob-infested gauntlet that is only happening because the “exp” players want to reset them on a specific location.

No, I can’t avoid “exp only” groups to not worry about this. Even in regular groups, players get mad when someone don’t know about certain exploit and got trouble through it.

I don’t NEED to google exploits just to have a successful run. I do NEED to know about how my class works, and how the enemy behaves, and follow the dungeon’s events, THAT’S ALL.

Ah, and yes, the meta being zerk is very annoying, because pigeonholes everyone to a certain build and even excludes one whole class (necro). I don’t have a clue on how to address that though.

Hey there! I’ve been considering rolling an elementalist and I’d like to see if any of you seasoned Eles can help me with a couple of questions regarding the profession. I’ve seen my questions answered across the internet but they are 1+ year old information and I’m sure things changed pretty much… So:

- How viable is an Ele that don’t use as many atunements? Like just 2 or even staying in just 1? I think I may get tired of atunement dancing once in a while.
- I know it’s the squishiest profession but I’m pretty sure I’ve heard something about a very tanky build. Such thing still exist? It’s good for solo?
- A build that revolves solely on conjured weapons is viable in PVE?

Last question:
- What is the one reason that keeps your love on top for Elementalist?

Why I'm >not< hyped for HoT

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: yhvh.8703

yhvh.8703

Although I’m hyped for HoT, I agree with you on almost every point of yours…

But two of them are worst:
1) Dungeon “hack” runs. I’ve posted another thread complaining about that and how anti-intuitive and anti-newplayer that system is, the one that consists of either aggroing the whole corridor and resetting mobs somewhere specific, or stacking for boss, or doing any funny business that is clearly an exploit. Basically I’ve got flamed by 99% of the people there. Dude, if you are a new player, how the hell you can run AC P1 without knowing that you need to skip a whole gauntlet of lizards and RESET them!? I know that people tag “experienced” but even on groups that are supposedly “good” for those people, the players expect everyone to know this kind of stuff, wich is ABSURD. I’ve seen new players being kicked for repeatedly failing on those hacky strategies… Before some funny person come here and say “do your own group”; god forbid a new player leading a run doing everything NORMALLY? Who in his own mind would join such party that does not do a fast run? /sarcasm

2) Zerk meta. Anet better have a workaround for this, because it’s still an issue. It’s simply boring! Some of the coolest builds of the professions are not suited for a zerker (and even a whole profession in the case of necros). This is not really player’s fault though, because IT IS the most efficient way to beat the dungeon enemies. They just need to improve dramatically how a condition or support player affects the whole group in PVE content.

I’d love the idea of making custom outfit-esque templates with the armor skins to activate them without the charge cost. I’d pay like 1000 gems for one slot of this.

Quality of life:
- Locking items on inventory, so it will prevent you from moving, selling, salvaging, etc. This come in handy to separate your actual gear from junk items. I’ve lost the count of the times I’ve salvaged something by accident.
- Trait templates, so you can save the build you just made. This QoL improvement will avoid the hassle of double-checking the internets to see if your trait points are 100% in place.
- Please, let us make custom chat channels. This is a glaring thing that every other MMO has and this doesn’t.

Misc:
- Let us disable the “I can outrun a centaur!” boon/condition voice effects. Sometimes this becomes VERY annoying… cough Signet of Inspiration cough

So, I have been away from the game since forever, and came back to play now. It happens that now I see an issue that I never realized it was here because I never did many dungeon runs before.

I mean, the speed runs and how toxic they are.

You may tell me to google or youtube how to proper do a speedrun for X, Y or Z dungeons, but honestly? I was thinking, a new player using the LFG tool is really supposed to know this stuff just in order to not be kicked instantly from a group just because it failed to skip the whole dungeon?

I think the possibility of these paths being skippable by running through mobs only leads to bad gameplay and puts a very bad impression on new players. I wonder if the community thinks this is actually an issue that needs to be looked upon in the expansion.

Of course, this is just the personal opinion of a player that is somewhat frustrated that need to previously know these “hack runs” in order to join any dungeon activity outside of a guild environment.

A question about GW2

As a new GW2 player, I thank Anet for disrupting the Queensdale train. I don’t mind about the existence of a train like that, but it being on a starter zone, especially of the most played race, causes a very bad impression for the people that are just joining GW2.

As a new GW2 player, I thank Anet for doing their best at disrupting speedrun gimmicks in dungeons. I mean, when I enter a explorable mode, I’m expected to know my profession and how to work in group in dungeons. Sorry, but I’m NOT expected to know that I need to stack on corner X, or run pass a corridor full of enemies and jump on a specific place to reset them, because they are not intended to do mechanics! Sure, I’ll do if they kindly tell me how to, but being honest, this scenario of kindness almost never happens.
