So, I’ve looked everywhere for it, I’m interested in a support-oriented engineer build. Such thing exists? Everything else is either damage or condi.
Thanks in advance!
1/2
Loved it, especially all the animations! C’mon, we are surfing on rocks!
I know the Elite IS pretty useful, but not as useful to put it as an elite skill. It feels more like utility slot imo.
I think it really should add more, such as some effect on enemies as well.
I think it should be made of 2 short words max. “Wash the pain away!” is just too long!
Probably because they made Bolt just because of speculation :P
If they are borrowing a type from other profession, we’d give them a magic type of skill and something that isn’t very profession-strict such as clones or consecration, so what is left in this threshold:
- Symbols
- Wards
- Meditation
- Spirits
- Glamours
- Marks
Some of them are really similar with each other, or with wells, so I’d give a shot on either Mantras or Spirits.
I think that they just need to enhance Air autoattack to do something else, given the crappy damage, and make Dragon’s Tooth a targeted skill, because is utterly annoying to use right now.
I’m not going to trust anything until we get the mechanics of how the Tempest will work.
I am disappointed because endgame is about skins and how you look, warhorns are small and most of them just look blah! I’d be happier if we were getting swords because there are so many great skins for them. Some people maybe happy with WH or disappointed, but it will really come down to the skills. But still I like to constantly make my character look as awesome as possible and WH just isn’t going to cut it!!
I’m not going to comment saying warhorn is good, but i’ve look though warhorn skins and I like a few. My only problem is the l-skills we are going to get, and that is what I don’t like about warhorn.
But we don’t even know the skills yet. And please don’t say WH has to have X or Y types of skill… : /
Where is written that the elementalist warhorn MUST behave like an already existing warhorn being a support offhand, etc?
I mean, I simply don’t understand why people are reacting like this without even knowing the proper facts, only based on a preview watercolor painting that says nothing else, lol?
Because, we know the profession. We know where its strengths and weaknesses lie.
So, let’s take the two popular 2 weapon builds: Scepter/Focus and Dagger/Focus. Scepter, while it is a big pile of crap, does provide 2 blast finishers. Because we are ele’s and in PvE we will always take the fury coming from our fire fields…we need access to a fire field on Warhorn in order for it to be considered an alternative using the Scepter.
For the dagger, Focus brings two blast finishers…which means warhorn in order to be considered an alternative must have a minimum of two blast finishers.
Alternatively, it could provide the equivalent amount of might and fury…which would mean that warhorn functions like it does for other professions.
BUT WAIT, there’s more! Focus also provides: Unblockable chill (Water 4), a huge projectile destruction sphere (air 4), projectile reflection (earth 4), condition cleanse (earth 4), and an invulnerability skill (earth 5).
So because we have to choose between Warhorn and Focus, warhorn MUST bring something that is more useful than all the above in PvE. (I don’t do PvP, but i presume the list is just as long).
Now, you might ask: “Why does it have to compete?” Simple answer…because otherwise it won’t be used. If Focus can provide more to a fight than a Warhorn, why bring the Warhorn? It becomes a non-choice. And the answer isn’t to nerf focus. Focus is great. It’s our second best weapon. We just want something to pair with it so Staff in PvE has some competition. And even then, there’s a good chance that Staff might not be the best DPS in the upcoming xpac. Staff is ONLY good when the boss stands still…so new AI could make staff just a viable choice. And now…Ele’s are rightfully kittened.
No, I’d never ask that because I really think it HAS to compete. But not with the same flavor. I think anet can really put some abilities there that bring stuff that ele has no access yet, or even odd ways of doing things. Yes, the focus is in a really good place right now, but judging by the recent trait design, you can guess that anet really wants to put stuff out there that will give people a hard time to decide wich one to pick.
But anyways, you can be totally right in your predictions, wich is bad, sadly. But I think the riot can wait a few days until the details comes out.
It’s actually funny seeing people reacting to this weapon with “I quit the game!” without even knowing what the hell the elite spec does and how it does. I’m actually very hyped because anet can pull out an amazing spec based on the most bland weapon. Of course I might be wrong, yeah, but why don’t we wait until the end of the week so we can ACTUALLY SEE what is coming for Elementalists?
If I remember correctly mesmer players were just like this with the incoming shield “Wth, sheild no mh pistol!?”, yet after the reveal apparently the Chronomancer is one of the most hyped elite specs.
Look at A-Nets track record with ele. Tempest trait line has to be OP to beat water/arcane and if not it’ll just be competing with fire, or be kinda fun but not as good like air. The utilites have to be better than cantrips which, lets be honest, wont happen. It has to bring defensive offense that would allow us to leave celestial a which it just cant do without auto attack chains and an offensive utility type weapon like sword.
Unless tempest reworks auto attacks for other weps and brings borderline OP utility traits its just going to be a competitor to fire in our one optional trait line selection.
Most players, let alone eles, have no faith in A-net they prove time and time again they just don’t get it. If you still have hope then good for you, but I’m sorry the glass is just empty, not half full.
I’m sorry for your lack of faith, don’t take my words badly, but I don’t think anyone has the right to judge what they are yet to know. Yeah, a-net might have faulted players on a lot of occasions, but that ultimately does not mean that they can’t get something right, even with a lot of evidence pointing the opposite.
After all it’s just a couple of days before all the information comes out. Overall chaos can wait a few, no?
Ele was built having no swap, so giving them a weapon swap would mean that the profession would have to be rebuilt and rebalanced completely..
I doubt that’s the case.
Like above poster said, they could really buff conjure trait so it’s actually worthy and that would behave like a second weapon. One ideas to make that viable is to give the elementalist (not someone else who picks it) infinite charges and make it only time-based. Heck, they even can introduce a new elite called Arcana Swords for the warhorn whiners.
Just wait a few days… we got all those datamined “sword” skills for nothing. This picture might be a scrapped concept..
Where is written that the elementalist warhorn MUST behave like an already existing warhorn being a support offhand, etc?

I like to use staff staying mostly on fire for the huge AoE damage – it will make easier to complete hearts with huge amount of clustered mobs;
Traiting for Fire, Earth (more survivability) and the third one is Air, for the speed passive increase. You stay in Air and go Fire/Earth only when you need to fight for hearts/hero points.
I run with signets of fire and earth and Arcane Wave for added aoe-ness. Elite goes with summoning Earth Elemental just in case of a tougher hero point enemy.
This has been working for me a lot, I hope it helps you. Sometimes I switch for d/d just for a change of flavor, but Staff appears to be an overall better exploring weapon.
I was just playing a new character Story and chose Malyck’s way, and doing that just made me remember of this NPC.
I wonder what’s gonna happen to his lore comes HoT… I have a couple of theories of where Malyck came from:
1) We will find another Grove that is corruption-immune like the Pale Tree and is fighting against the Mordrem, we’ll see Malyck leading forces there.
2) We will find another Grove of sylvari that is (maybe just recently) under Mordrem control and we’ll find Malyck as an antagonist.
Any way or another, this is a nice chance for the writers to expand a forgotten thread of lore that started with the game’s launch and apparently nobody spoke more of.
People are complaining of Rev dps when they doesn’t even have the dps legend yet? XD

- The sylvari hair ideas on this page: http://failarielarfeiniel.deviantart.com/art/Sylvari-Cotton-Bloom-Afro-hair-385141927
- More leaf armor. Maybe release a new skin that has a leafy variant for Sylvaris (like cook outfit does).
- Sylvari-themed instrument
- New dance item
- Swimsuits.
Please, please anet, convert, re-release on store, anything… the Endless Clothing Tonics as outfits!
I love some of them, but the default palette (usually browns..) are a huge letdown to use them. It would be fantastic if we could customize the colors as we ONCE could when they were town clothes.
Honestly, who had the idea of converting them on useable items instead of straight turning ’em into outfits? :/
Oh man, why people are overreacting about the warhorn?
1) Not confirmed. Even with 763 clues, anet can change minds at some point and come in an article just saying “Oh, this was meant to be warhorn, but we changed minds..”, just like they mentioned the scrapped idea of Mesmer getting rifles.
2) Even IF it’s warhorn. Depends on the way it’s executed. Most mesmers were outraged by getting shield, yet we saw that the whole concept and skill execution was pretty neat. Heck, anet could even give Warriors focus and make it work somehow. Tempest is probably a magician capable of manipulating storm manifestations of the elements… So much creative material to work, I can’t believe that even with warhorn, eles are getting bland and tasteless spells.
Dude, you made me realize how neat is this trait!
I’ve been toying with your setup, but dumped Ether Feast for the signet and can actively generate even more iZerkers… I simply don’t have time to swap out of GS because everything comes off cooldown so fast! I’m thiking of the second set as a survival failsafe with sword and torch, probably will change inspiration for chaos since that line doesn’t seem vital to your build.
this inspired visuals for Mesmer.
Thanks, gonna test some of it
Yeah, something to survive well against the hard-hitting Mordrem in SW. I know the main trick is to avoid being hit with all the defensive tools, but sometimes there are too many Mordrem, especially the Teragriffs.
With that old Clone Factory build, I just kept spamming clones and the aggro was everywhere, so most of the time I had nothing on me.
I have a slightly offtopic question:
With so much steath now, what Mesmers can do soloing dungeons? I mean, is possible to do something neat with this new trick package?
Before patch, I was using mainly a “Clone Factory” build with that trait that made clones apply conditions when they got destroyed. Sadly, this trait is nowhere else to be seen.
It was basically a solo pve focused build on clone production and overwriting (not shattering them) + phantasm burst damage.
Where/how I can find something similar to this? Maybe the tanky pve mesmer build is something totally different now?
More ideas:
- Kimono outfit:
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/6c/3d/e9/6c3de9de8c06d8fd58b6f088a8b4be8e.jpg
- Parasol toy or focus skin to match with above outfit. (Toy more likely, so we can have a “holding” animation)
- Cantha-style hair for human males and females
Questions:
1) 900 range is okay. I barely remember any situation where I was constantly at max. distance anyway
2) Mortar, because it supplements FT melee-esque build when you need range. Provides a lot of fields. Orbital lazor, that’s all.
Mortar = Supply Drop > Elixir X
3) Yeah, but I’ve always used them anyways. (plz fix bomb animation and graphic!!)
4) FT tanky build and a Mortar tanky build I came up with
5) Clunky yes. Plus, #1 is VERY underwhelming
6) No
It is indeed pretty fun, and it works pretty well with either dps or tanky gear.
It’s because it has a 10s cooldown, no?
While you are at it, a nice suggestion is about some female faces (more specifically in Norn and Human races),
Create faces with a color picker for makeup, or modify the current ones that use makeup to have this feature!
It would greatly diverse faces of the most popular race/gender (we see them everywhere). And I’m sure people would spend tons on gems to buy new makeover kits to change their makeups to a more desirable color;
I’m using both red lipstick faces on my human females, and I’d LOVE to have one’s lips to be of a bluish purple and the other one to be on a pitch black.
Here my input about the new trait system presentation:
1) This is especially useful for new players and for players that are new to a certain profession: add a brief description to each trait line when you hover over it at the interface panel. I’m kind of new to engi and always have to double-check to see if the trait line I’m choosing is the right for the kind of build I’m planning, for example… I always forget wich is the healing-oriented trait line: alchemy or inventions? Gotta double-check it.
2) Template interface: a couple of slots that allow you to save build presets. Now is easier to swap between builds, but that is just a convenience thing, since there are still so many ways to setup traits.
The only thing I really miss is choosing lower tier traits into higher tier trait slots…
Anything for a new bomb animation
I can live with the mortar as it is, but bomb… gokitten
he old bomb wasn’t THAT big and it was fine! Right now it seems like one of those japanese wooden rice pans O.o
Grenade kit just need for it’s color to look more metallic, so it won’t look like an Onion stack.
You’d have to go in Tools… IMO, is rough to trade the Firearms + Inventions + Alchemy for it, because as Mork pointed those 3 are very good for a tanky build.
Tools JUST for speedy kits (now Streamlined Kits) perma swiftness is not worthy. You can have Mecha Legs with the current setup wich isn’t 33%, but is nice.
update on build and testing:
I’ve realized that Juggernaut no longer gives toughness, so the only real “tanky” thing about that trait is the stability (wich is very useful against some Mordrem..), but overall, I’ve managed to dump the firearms line for explosives and use the mortar as my main weapon with a lot of success; here’s the build:
http://dulfy.net/gw2traits#build=AgEB7AS0A7g~
Important tanky traits observations:
- The whole alchemy trait line is essential
- Mecha legs can be swapped for Soothing Detonation in a group setup or if you have another source of swiftness (the cripple cleansing is pretty much covered by now)
- Thermobaric Detonation + Evasive keg grants blast finishers on the always present fields of the Mortar kit, but you can also align it with your 3 options of water fields to blast it for heals. If you are not finding much use for them, you can always swap TD for another dps oriented trait in the grandmaster line.
- Bunker down is a great tanky trait, even without the brutal crit boost from the firearms line, you’ll still produce a lot of healing. Just make sure to collect the spawned kits. It feels a lot like WoW Brewmaster monks…
Weapons: P/S – mostly because of Shield skills are very good for avoiding/reflecting. I don’t use pistol skills very much…
Utility: Elixir B (for overall boons) / Elixir U (Offensive purposes) / Elixir C (condi removal is a must in a tanky build). Elixir U is more for a dps increase (wich will make stuff die faster = more survivability), but you can really change it for anything else.
Healing: Healing Turret – is STILL the best engi healing skill, plus one more condi cleanse.
Elite: Mortar – you’ll be staying most of the time on this, unless for shield in defensive maneuvers
Equipment: I’m still figuring out the best stats for this setup, but aim for stats that make your critical chance higher, because of Bunker Down trait.

Thanks, will do!
Since it was nerfed, Mortar is still good to use with this build? Or is just for the orbital strike? I feel that Supply Drop might be more useful in terms of survivability, esp. now with the medkits separated from the turrets…
Also, what kind of armor should I go for? Condi. damage seems adequate, no? In this case, I can stick with P/P for the added conditions?
01) Kasmeer / Faren swimsuits as outfits
02) This and this styles for human females!
03) Hair colors: turquoise, dark green, pastel blue
04) Musical instrument: Asura-themed keyboard, with synth sounds, example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YEz2rcHQiIE
05) [Cheap Wig] helmet skin for all armor weights, example of such: http://robotceleb.com/fashion/img-large/lady-gaga-bob-platinum-blonde-white-costume-wig_r301667332004.jpg
06) A new dance item, with more diverse dance moves
I was trying to adapt my old tanky build to this new model, but I can’t figure out just the perfect setup… Can somebody help me with that?
Before I was going on juggernaut FT build.
That is meant mainly for PVE solo.
Thief wasn’t already capable of near perma-stealth if traited correctly?
Anet, sorry if this is not high priority, but I’ve gotta ask for better graphics on Bomb Kit, please! Looks absolutely hideous! The bomb you hold and place in the ground is so big… Well, I was expecting at least a better looking bomb. Right now we have the hobobomb.
for the rest…
Grenades are okay, I wish they were more metallic-esque though, because from distance, they look like a stack of hanging onions lol.
Mortar is okay too, but I thought it would come more flashier than that. I could swear that was an already existent rifle skin.
MedKit is awesome!
Flamethrower… I love the gun, and I don’t miss the hobosack, but I miss the fuel reservatory in the back. Maybe put a backpiece skinned after the old FT bag? That counts for the Elixir gun too.
Support this.
As a female medium armor wearer I’ve got a few non-trenchcoat options, but still, they are too much!
Hahah, Engineers took years to have hobosacks removed, I suggest you guys to make a 2000+ post thread with this complain and wait a few years bumping that.
On a serious note, yeah the Aegis visual is pretty terrible and is one of the biggest things that keep me away from rolling a Guardian.
PLEASE do this.
I know the coding issues, but can’t they JUST create a new item ID of outfits with the same appearance as the tonic clothing?
The only reason I’m not having any clothing tonic right now is the lack of color variation and the fact that most of them comes in dull colors.
My guess is, yes, while they’re scattered everywhere, some details about them are to be considered non-canon:
- WP inside of dungeons, etc are just game mechanics. They appear as you progress anyway.
- The fee being so cheap should be also considered game mechanics, else NPCs would use them to go to point X to Y instead of walking. My guess is that they may be feasible to use once in a while, but going repeatedly would drain one’s gold pretty fast. Also, that explains why there’s no tax on capital cities.
I’ve always wondered how canon is waypoints being an easy way of transportation…
We still see donkey carts everywhere carrying stuff from one waypoint to another; I do really think that while they exist in lore, they aren’t as acessible as much.
Wait to see the numbers, the dmg buffs might have been baked in now.
Anyway, perma-stability… That’s pretty big.
I’d love that! Especially “Reflect”. Sometimes is hard to tell if my Mesmer’s feedback is actually reflecting something, with so many particle effects on top of the boss.
Together with that, they could add as well a castbar underneath the enemy portrait. Again, a attack being only visual is hard to calculate evasive maneuvers just in time. But then, this one is a QoL thing that maybe many will disagree with.
Hahah, like many said. Nothing new, china gw2 just need less clicks.
So many legendaries on TP, you’ll never run out of a chance to buy them… if you open your RL wallet and convert gems > gold.
Player housing?
It would be awesome, and I have a strong feeling that the GH mechanics are some sort of pilot project for a future implementation of housing.
We already have the home instance! Perhaps a chance of fully customize it, it would be amazing. For example, in Salma district, you being able to actually buy more than one house (not the story-linked ones though) and do a makeover there, even changing the blueprints!
I can only dream. Wildstar got this feature and is pretty robust there, basically one of the best parts of that game, in wich you can lose months just doing that (obviously, taking into account that you have gold for it).
Keeping the thread alive! So many good references!
Not exactly similar, but here is my The Mask inspired set.
(Sadly I don’t have charges to actually change into this, hence only the preview)
Perhaps a male character may have better options with the coat. And being a sylvari, you probably can go with a full green face.
