Honestly in a system as moronic and unbalanced as the one we were handed, we’re pretty lucky to get relatively balanced matchups. I get IOJ’s morale issues, when we first started playing you in the words of the fine gentleman Hijaxx, you “lifted your skirts for AR” and were nowhere to be found. That’s certainly not the case anymore. Hell, NSP probably remembers waving at us as we passed them by on our way down to T7 in January. Morale is a slippery slope, one that every server in the bottom half has ridden down. In time people replace the ones that left, enough youtube videos of ~superior!T1 tactics~ get shared, and one day we look in the mirror and realize we’re a completely different server than the one from 3… 6… 8 months ago. So have some fun and keep stabbing and arrow carting each other to death. <3

But regarding 3rd page bottom: Some of you guys need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture. 1 team holding stonemist away from the dominant team in a good D position, great. That frees up you guys to run around in either their paper towers up north for massive ppt, or half their paper borderlands you just ransacked for massive PPT, etc etc.

Or you can get sucked into Stonemist Syndrome for laughs using ‘cause it’s neutral as a justification, and not expect the other team to retaliate, sucking up more of your manpower, hurting your ppt, etc etc, blah blah.

You can use all the justifications you want, but all you do is hurt yourself when you hit anything but the bigger team. So don’t come cryin’ to us if our oceanics decide to play with blue instead of red tonight while we try to hold the fort down until they arrive

I was not there for the Stone Mist “Bait and Trap” but I guess from what Nom was trying to convey was it was set up to bait DH and draw them to the “Shiny Paper Mist” in hopes they would leave the rest of there fortifications so that they can be flipped. Nom got angry when NSP broke into Stone Mist rather then hit DH undefended structures. To be fair NSP did not know what IoJ was planing and I doubt if the plan for SM was given to NSP about “Baiting” DH, NSP would of still attacked Stone Mist.

Nom is a GREAT commander and highly respected to the point he does not need to tag up to draw a zerg to him. Sadly what I saw here was a break down of communication and understanding of tactics. IoJ can’t hold SM for any length of time unless it’s our Oceanic’s time, in which case it can be held with little opposition.

I personal hate SM because it’s a big target. Though I do find it funny how one guild or server thinks it should be theirs alone and would sacrifice EVERYTHING to recapture it.

Yea, we had no idea what was going on. If we did, I’m sure our commanders who were online would have tried their hardest to convert all the red into blue.

Yet somehow we’re supposed to know your plan, according to “Nom.”

Sigh… I hate forum wars and people calling each other out on stuff in game. IoJ is a very philosophical server, we believe in a fair and equal fights with a VERY close point spread. Typically we pick a side (normally the largest side) and try to pound it down so that the points stay even and don’t turn into a blow out. IoJ commanders will get flustered when the side they choose to ignore starts undermining the efforts of IoJ in keeping the points close to even.

The understanding in keeping the points even is to prevent moral issues in blowout matches (100k point leads are a sign of no recovery) and keep people from think the match is hopeless. Keeping the moral high on our server IS a must or we start to slide as numbers start to dwindle and some of the hardcore WvWers leave out of frustration in a numbers game.

In honesty if IoJ and NSP ganged up on DH and managed to shove DH to second place, I don’t know what we can do to not make us look like jerks. I know when we fought DR we beat them down as much as we can and assisted SF to second place because it would just add insult to injury to DR. I personally don’t want humiliate any one server this match and I don’t care who comes in first as long as the points are close.

I am ok if NSP takes some of IoJ’s camps or even towers but if you see Orange Swords in our corner and it’s not you, please don’t come over and yank the carpet out from under us. That’s a good way to tick off our commanders and start a meaningless blood feud over and demoralize both sides troops and resources.

I hope this does not get me shot on the battle field and makes some sense…

You’re fine. At least you’re being realistic about it. If DH is attacking you guys in your corner, then why would we go for it? Stonemist, however, is not your territory. There’s nothing wrong with taking it from you.

I’ve only been on NSP for about a month. I came from Maguuma, was there since release. Transfered to NSP for smaller, less zergy play. Even though we don’t win, I’m really loving it. It feels more like a tight-knit server, especially in EB. XP

Spent 15+ minutes fending off DH with the walls down, only to have IoJ take it 10 minutes later. Like I said, I spent about 2 hours and 1g+ on that tower. I was reeeeeaalllly kitten ed for the half hour afterwards, but I got over it. Why? It’s WvWvW.

So don’t tell us that you don’t attack us, because you do. Taking STONEMIST, of all things, is not something that you should be complaining about. Whose territory is it in? Nobody’s. It’s neutral territory.

Of course, but you gotta understand there’s consequences to hitting the “wrong” server. There’s two reasons I don’t hit other small server:

1. it’s hard enough fighting off the big server, dealing with retaliation, hell DH can’t handle both of us 24/7.

2. I normally don’t hold grudges, but everyone has their breaking point. A lot of other people on IoJ reached theirs, I reached mine today. DH give us enough fights, double teaming brings stress. You stress us out, we’ll go stress you out

Of course, but you gotta’ understand that there’s not such thing as “hitting the wrong server.” There is one reason for this:

1. It’s WvWvW.

There is a time for double-teaming, yes. That time is not 24/7.

Man up. I really hope you go up against Maguuma some time, then you’ll be raging all day and crying like a little baby all night. Oh, and how are you going to play when the scores are even, huh? You gonna’ form an alliance with another server? I’m telling you right now, that’s not how it works. DH is going to beat IoJ and NSP, we all know that. Go for 1st or get camped at your spawn. You wanna go for IoJ when DH is the bigger threat and it takes BOTH of our servers to hold ’em back, then deal with the consequences.

So…NSP just shot themselves in the foot for the rest of the week.

IOJ is all about fighting the stronger opponent, and hopefully getting some help from the other smaller opponent (in this case, NSP)

About 30 minutes ago we had stonemist, and were patiently waiting for DH to come for it. We happily watched while NSP sacked towers we took like OW, vel, etc, and cheered for ‘em while they sacked DH’s map to oblivion.

NSP tried a sucker punch on SM, but it got deflected. No harm, no foul, really.

Bout…an hour? Later. NSP successfully sucker punch/bumrush paper gates on SM and take it out from under us, probably about 30 mins before DH had the #’s and towers ready to take SM (they were still trebbing from keep, etc)

We attempted a rage golem rush on your keep, which failed, kudos. And kudos on the SM ninja. But you just screwed yourself for the rest of the week, and more or less made it go from "challenging and fun to “wtf double team wtf bullkitten ioj” ’cause you wanted to go for “lol cherry pick.”

Think before you ninja. A lot of people were angry and asking me to storm blue when I tagged up, and by the time I tagged down, I’m ready to go full-out blood feud with a bunch of cherry-picking idiots who just ruined the next few days for their server.

There ARE some wise commanders on NSP…yesterday there was a beautiful double team on DH at ogrewatch, really glorious stuff. You might wanna talk to your other commanders about the consequences about the “easy target” though…‘cause it’s about to cost you.

Heya! I plan on scouting and roaming in WvW with my Thief, and I was wondering what the pros and cons of the D/D and D/P weaponset are? I know I wanna’ use a SB as my second weaponset, but I need help with my main melee set. :<

I hear that D/P is almost uncatachable, but D/D does more damage? I don’t know.

I play a trap ranger, with two dogs, the thief was a p/d tanky condi build and used lots of stealth. Even though I managed to stack poison, burning and 9 stacks of bleed on him, he stealthed and managed to lose all the conditions and emerged with full hp. We weren’t an organized group, and probably didn’t have lots of cc/stun/daze. Having said that, I don’t know of many other classes/builds that you need an organized small group to kill, apart from some good mesmers perhaps. Having said that, the statement that there are only average thieves and trolls is just not right IMHO.

I do remember that happening when I was a lowbie Ranger. I was with two other people, and the Thief managed to take us all down. Truthfully, I had no clue what I was doing. I went down first, then the upleveled Guardian. The other Ranger who was max level took a lot longer to kill, and just barely lost the 1v1. You don’t need to be organized, really. You just need to be prepared. I understand what you’re saying, though.

And when I said “average,” I didn’t mean “of average skill level.” I just meant that they’re actual fighters. They’re there to kill you, not to fool around and troll you. To be clearer, there are serious Thieves and there are troll Thieves. The Thieves who pick people off 1 by 1 fall into the serious category.

There are two types of Thieves.

The Troll:

The Average Thief:

I’ve met thieves that are not in those categories. Thieves that could take on 4 players (not uplevelled noobs), they could be uncatchable and took their opponents down 1by1. If you didin’t come across one, good for you.

They must have been glass cannons, or they don’t know their class. Really, it’s not difficult to counter a Thief when you’re with other people.

Block, Stun, Immobilize, Daze, Interrupt, Fear, Knockdown, Push, or burst the Thief. CC’n the Thief rends him useless. Bursting the Thief may not kill him, but it at least forces him to stealth. If someone goes down, all other players res the downed player. The Thief won’t be able to finish the guy in time. It’s simple. If nobody in a group of 4 people can do that, I’m sorry, but they deserve to die.

I main a Ranger and I’ve never had a problem. One time I had a Thief attack me and a couple of upleveled teammates, who he killed 1 by 1. But I killed him before he even got close to killing me 1v1. It’s not rocket science.

Also, picking off players 1 by 1 isn’t just a Thief thing. I’ve done it on my Ranger and my D/D Ele in 1v2s and 1v3s.

There are two types of Thieves.

The Troll: This Thief will mess with you and/or your group all freaking day. He is the “permastealth” Thief. You can’t kill him, but he can’t kill you, either. He can, however, kill your dolyaks and get away without a scratch on ‘im. He’s annoying as heck, but he’s not “OP.”

The Average Thief: This Thief is just your average Thief. He’s a fighter. He doesn’t permastealth, because he knows that he won’t be able to take you down if he doesn’t keep pressure on you. You’ll win some and you’ll lose some. If he catches you off guard, he’ll probably win it. But whose fault is that? Yours! Who wins all depends on how skilled you are and how skilled he is. If you’re both equally skilled, he’s not going to win every single time.

The frustration over the trolling Thieves is totally understandable. They’re just annoying, and most of the time, you can’t do kitten about it! Other than that, a lot of it is a learn2play issue. If you’re always losing to a Thief 1v1, it’s not that the Thief is OP! You just need to work out your own issues!

That said, people who are claiming that the Thief is “weak” are ridiculous. The Thief may not be overpowered, but it’s certainly not underpowered, either.

I can understand if it was something like 200,000 supply. That makes more sense. It’d take a year or so.

Ultimate Besieger: Use 1,000,000 total supply to build siege weapons in WvW.

So, say I build 20 arrow carts per day. 20 arrow carts take 600 supply to build. That means it would take me 1667 days of WvW’n every day and using at least 600 supply every day to get this title. That’s over 4 years.

Oh no, NSP isnt mostly thieves. They are mostly rangers! I swear they had a zerg of rangers fighting us on the middle island from both the SE and SW towers. And they wouldn’t even rush us since they all used SB/LB so we were fighting a zerg of ranger pets like half of the night. It was like we got dropped into a zoo with loose animals trying to kill us everywhere. Oh yeah, and lots of arrows.

Yea, I’m on NSP and I noticed that we do have a lot of Rangers. (I’m a Ranger too! lol)

I also love building siege. USE ALL THE ARROW CARTS!

I’m just starting to get into WvW regularly, and I think I’ll be making it my job to siege stuff up. It’s actually pretty fun running supply, building siege, taking camps, defending camps, and making sure that things get upgraded. Fortifying ftw!

I’d really like to use it for autoattack. Can I bind it? It’s not letting me, is there a way around it? :/

As I said I also don’t have the luxury of Empathic Bond and I run Healing Spring and just avoid condition heavy skirmishes the best I can. Signet of Renewal is just so bad. One condition every 10 seconds means a certain death if they apply a big stack of burning or confusion and it doesn’t even get removed by the RNG. The active is on a horribly high cooldown and when your pet isn’t in range all it does is even turn off the crappy every 10 second removal. If it actually is in range you kitten your pet damage and might even kill it. This skill is so bad compared to condi removal of other classes but yet we have to use it because we lack alternative options.

I would take a breaks stun and removes 3 conditions on 35 second cd over that at any time.

Well, I have Healing Spring, and the Melandru runes give me -25% condition duration. That’s it, though. xD

I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet. In a 1v2, I can perform well. 1v3 is difficult, but doable. 1v4+ I don’t even try to do.

I once held off 3 guys (a Warrior, a Guardian, and something else) in front of a treb for about 3 minutes before a Mesmer came in. They downed me pretty quickly after that. Sucks, too, ’cause before the Mesmer came along, I almost had the Warrior down. lol.

Well just changing the amulet (and some minor stuff) still means it is BM so those are only two builds imo. I am saying this way too often but imo we don’t have any decent condition removal beside Empathic Bond which forces every ranger into 30 Wilderness survival and already directs your stats towards armor and condition damage. So the logical step is letting your pet deal damage (30 into BM) or going for traps (30 skirmishing).

That is really all the “depth” we have currently when talking about build variety. I actually run a direct dmg longbow/GS ranger but I kind of feel like a warrior currently. Almost but just not their (and one reason is lack of decent condition removal).

Well, my “Hybrid BM” is a 0/20/20/0/30 build, and most bunker regens are 0/0/30/10/30. I use Soldier’s stuff and Melandru runes. I’d say it’s different enough. :P

But yea, there’s really not much variety at all.

The ranger wasn’t commented on because SOTG is a PVP related venue, and right now outside of a Longbow power build or traps being really viable there are rangers on just about every team, and the BM ranger is incredibly powerful. It’s a bit crazy that you can send the drake to the center point and still be able to back cap, because the drake is kind of like a player all by himself.

Because of the issues that Necromancers and Warriors currently face in the tournaments, and it was very evident in the last tournament that when those two classes are focused they go down regardless of spec. This isn’t true of the ranger, and so they spent an extended time on the two classes that are poorly represented and really weak in the current state of tournament play.

While you have two viable builds, the Warrior and Necro have zero, Guardians have 2, Mesmers have 1 maybe 2, Elementalist have 2, and in fact I think everyone has 2 except the two classes they spent the most time talking about.

So you are currently in the same state as every other profession in terms of pvp and tournament play.

Which 2 do you mean? BM and Traps?

I can think of 3 that work well in PvP. BM Hybrid (Soldier’s), Healing BM (Cleric’s), and traps (w/e with condition damage).

yeah that was me.. you were the upleveled ranger i killed once in front of lake.. then we waved.. you danced.. i bowed and we killed sentry and went south camp.. sorry you got mauled.. i saw it coming but thats to be expected in wvw of course..

and according to a BRL sylvari thief, i use speed hacks.. did you see me use any speed hacks? just curious. If i did i must have used them without my knowledge.

Pacific time around noon, GoM knocked out Garrison’s lower west gate with golems. (Anet’s new build saved us once, maybe an hour before this) Hardly recovered from that, Hills south gate was also breached by golems. Lucky for us, we pushed them out, but they left some thief and mesmer behind, and those, at least two, in Hills stayed quiet for a very long time – sneaky!

Done some sweep, our main force had to leave for south or Bay. I called out in the map chat that I would stay at Hills patching and sieging things up. Then I found a suspicious red circle popping up. We played hide and seek all around the upped and lower platform at Hills near south gate.

After several failed attempts, some (now) acquaintances came and formed a party with me, and I remembered those new toys, Stealth Disruptor trap, in my inventory. Anyway, we got the mesmer first, and had an ele stayed with her or him, probably her, awaiting her family or friends to sign the DNR form and claim the corpse. Later utilizing the trap, we caught the thief under the bridge near Hills south gate. Story ended with the mesmer gazing the peaceful blue sky finally called by God and ascended.

About farming NSP… I was on my guardian til you guys decided that since it took more than 3 of you to fight me and win youd just zerg me every time I was anywhere with 10+ people, so I switched to my thief so you couldnt. Its your own fault. But really, it just sounds like you’re mad Oozo.

I’ll let you know when I hit 80. You definitely need an attitude adjustment, that’s for sure.

You can be a ranged Warrior, or a mix of melee and ranged.

I played a Sword/Axe + Longbow Warrior and it was great. Greatsword + Rifle was awesome, too.

Every class can do melee and ranged effectively. Except maybe Engineers, if I remember correctly.
