And also I can’t even begin to think how will the system sort people who like to do different things, many people enjoy EVERY aspect of the game. How will the system sort let’s say hypothetical Johnny B., a guy who is a roleplayers, also does jumping puzzles, map completion, hearts, event chains, and big world bosses, but usually focuses on one aspect for some time, then moves to the other as the previous one becomes stale for him?

Will he be forced into the crowd doing whatever activity he was endulging when the update hits him in the face like a big bag of “nope”? Or just get assigned totally randomly by a system who doesn’t know what to make of him and bugs because of wide variety of the mans activities?

Is Johnny playing the game wrong suddenly because he likes to enjoy the WHOLE game, not just a select aspect?

@ Aidan Savage.2078 – Others have already replied to Your post saying same things I would have, so I won’t repeat same arguments except for adding a line or two:

So we roleplayers adapt to changes in game that are made without any thought about us. Does that make it alright to pile up more difficuilties against us, and making it harder and harder for us to play the game how we like?

So our money and voices are worth less because we’re resilient and will adapt?

Hey, what would YOU say if suddenly it would be imposed on EVERYONE in the game to roleplay their characters, and people who would refuse would be baned or there would be obstacles piled in their way? And when you would complain you would hear “adapt of gtfo!”??

Not a very comforting scenario, right? And we face it everyday and the Megaserver update has the potential to make it near impossible to play together and enjoy our community without finding some backdoors alowing us to work around the system.

So basically Megaserver impose danger that roleplayers will be forced to cheat the game in order to play it. Sounds fair to you?

As for the RP tag, it can be simply treated by the system as “guild” or a step below, and prioritize tagged people accordingly.

ps. This whole situation wouldn’t take place if our needs would be taken in consideration without us rebelling. We don’t ask for privileges that other players do not have. We ask to be taken in consideration on equal footing as other players, as a community same as pvpers, pvers and what have you.

Instead we’re being marginalized and ignored, because “we can giuld up”.

Gotta add, the fact the ANet team does not only seem to have no idea about specifics and needs of rp community but also seems very eager to dismiss us with a light hand, it irks me really.

Most of roleplayers i know, (myself included ofc) are adults with stable income they like to spend on their hobby. Most are dedicated to their hobby, which makes them dedicate clients. Most have very wide connections within the community and without.

I think we deserve to be treated like any other community within game, at least as much as Teq and Wurm killers (there is certainly many more roleplayers than tq slayers), not being dismissed out of hand.

If Anet made Tequatl easier for one reason or the other, World Boss community would raise hell and be listened to. Why are we, roleplayers, not entitled to being accommodated to, even in the least? Why are we the community not being cared about? Hell, they didn’t even think about roleplayers when making Megaserver plans until we we raised objections!

All we ask, is being taken into consideration, and given a way of staying together as a community and cultivationg the way we like to enjoy Guild Wars 2, instead of having to fight the system so that we can do it. Very good ways of making sure we can do that were mentioned already, my favourite being the RP tag…

I guess we just have to wait and see, but with one of the things I play mmo’s for (lore) hit or lacking where it matters most, and other (rp) potentially being hit I’ll hold off planned gem spending until I see how the situation looks like.

Anyway, gonna have to wait and see, and hope it’s gonna be okay.
I don’t think I’m willing to go upwind and find some ways around that system if it in fact will hinder roleplay and hit rp community.

I don’t understand what the problem is, and why RP’ing trumps the overall health/population of the the games thinned out areas.

No one is saying this. People in the roleplay community are just pointing out that they are, like PvErs, WvWers, and PvPers, a large & active part of the playerbase, and as such would like to be considered when systems that restructure how players interact are put into play.

This update, from Anet’s POV, is supposedly about bringing players who enjoy the same parts of the game together. Right now it doesn’t much look like we’re included in that. We would like to be. That’s all.

Pretty much that, +1

As that seems to be somehow relevant to the topic: I’m a roleplayer for many years, I’m married, have a child, and having trained martial arts, working out etc. most my life by no means I am living in my moms basement, thank you very much.

Also, rper haters, and as it seems others as well often choose to forget that MMORPG was created as a platform for roleplay, so my only reply to those people can be “we are playing the genre as intended”.

However, playing on Piken Square and now on Tarnished Coast I can’t actually remember when was the last time a non roleplayer tried to troll me or my friends, hell some non roleplayers joined us in rp!

I absolutely don’t mind having more out of character people running around, I don’t think I’ll even notice them personally, since anyone I don’t interact with is just a person running by and doing things, mostly I don’t give them a second look.

My worries, just like many others are simple – I do PvE, WvW, PvE, and I’m good at it, and I like it. Now I’m afraid that it will make it harder for me to find other roleplayers, OR make it more of a pain to enjoy the rest of the game.

I am afraid that Megaserver will be yet another difficulty for us, roleplayers to enjoy the game how we like (among, chairs, emotes, no rp tag and so on), and thus taking away my big chunk of motivation to play the game.

Also, even though not as numerous as other communities, we also should be heard and accommodated to even if just a little I think, after all we also bought the game, and spend money on gems (I’d risk assumption that we probably spend disproportionate amount of gems to our numbers).

And yeah I blabber – shortly put, I’m afraid that the update will bring little aid, and many troubles for roleplayers, and hope that it will not be so.

I am also a roleplayer, and have strong objections and worries concerning this new Megaserver, which has been all voiced by the OP.

Megaservers have a lot of potential for ruining any non guild RP, especially spontaneous random RP that often produces best storylines and friendships…

Frankly, if this would be the case and RP community on Guild Wars 2 would wither, so would almost all my interest in the game, from social standpoint, since I’m not really interested in OOC interactions and rarely get to know non roleplayers I randomly meet.

On the other hand, I’m also an active wvw, pve etc player and share the worries of my fellow roleplayers.

Am I supposed to quit my pve and wvw guilds now? Should I stop playing the content just so I can play with other roleplayers?

The Cataclysm Tapped into Ley Lines

in Lore

zwierz.9012

We can look into real life ley line lore (fantasy just borrowed the term, often changing it’s meaning) and see if we can find parallels to base on there, rather than other fantasy settings with ley lines?

IF (I repeat IF as in a starting point for an ASSUMPTION, that’s specially for you, you know who) we’d start from assumption that story Devs based on the real life ley line lore we could build a working start point to maybe map them ourselves and sketch a theoretical ley line map in Tyria linking monuments and places of rich history with magic together to form a diagram?

Of course the problem would be “how the interconnections between points A, B, C (et cetera) go?”

Tossing in wikipedia article about ley lines: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ley_lines .

It might be a shot in the dark of course, just a thought.

Might be fun! And noone actually said LA will be razed to the ground. It might be damaged in a siege, but since we will win (we never lost against Scarlet, she is smart enough to obscure her real agenda, but terribly incompetent in realizing in, in my opinion.) I assume, the city will be damaged, but will still be there. It might give an interesting opportunity for three step synergy here (Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars 2 pre Scarlet, Guild Wars 2 post Scarlet)

Why not Orr then? Though personally I think if Mystic Toilet would be put in every city along with Mist Portals, and Fractals, then we could have 5 hubs instead of one. I think it might be nice and give new players good image, where they enter racial capital for the first time, and see a bustling city. On the other hand it could have opposite effect of dispersing the population…

People who think LA needs to stay because it is important to have one all important HUB city that does everything in a MMORPG are dead wrong. Several games have done without it by introducing features that made other cities just as relevant as a HUB could be. A hub city is just a convenience nothing more and one that can be replicated elsewhere.

We have a chance in GW2 for a truly changing world that can lose even a major city and keep going. That is incredible and a great step forward for MMORPG’s everywhere because most MMO worlds never change because people are so vitriol about it. They want the status quo to never change so they can be on top, they know the layouts, they think their current build is the greatest ever. What reason it often holds games back because of how afraid selfish and vocal they can it. If they truly destroy LA you need to think about how many possibilities that opens up for the game in general. It means anything could happen now including other major city invasions that change their layouts. That is just awesome!

Besides the mystic forge and the order stories everything else can be done in another major city. They’ve already said one of the greatest mistakes they made was tying the personal story so much into Orr that changing it would ruin it for others new to the game. It made it hard to make changes but they said they had a possible solution. Using the fractals they can have players go in there and see that story as if they already did it in the past themselves. While the world at large continues to change at large. The consortium built that portal pretty sure they can make another for us to use somewhere else and it would no different going to it then any other dungeon.

Another change would be linking all the major cities map chats together. So you’d miss nothing of the social aspect. Other MMORPG’s like WoW have done this and it works great and the population gets to support or stay in the city they want rather then always the hub because they worry they might miss something.

WvW portals in the Vigil keep make perfect sense for the aesthetics of having portals of war. Plus you can queue up from anywhere already anyways. So that really isn’t a big loss.

Major holiday features could be made for every major city instead of just LA or the Vigil Keep could bring a new take to it. Such as the way we fight off the Bloody Prince or Mad King and they wouldn’t have to worry about justifying the damage repairs to something like the Lion statue. You wanted holidays to change and evolve well here is your chance to get that. Don’t blow it by asking for things like LA to never change.

Once again you think only LA has history with GW1 but many of the cities today are built on history from GW1. The searing, refugees, the outpost that became an Asura capital, a tree grown with great care by two different races on a mass grave, the great migration of the Norn where the spirits aided them and some of them DIED. This history is waiting to be tapped and moving the focus to these side cities can let that happen.

The books are an evolving story as well and in a series cities get destroyed and people die. The story can’t grow without these things happening. Just because something was used in a book doesn’t mean it gets a get out of jail free card on any changes.

This can be a fun ride even if it is tied to (gag) Scarlet. Let it happen.

Strong +1 to that, as a roleplayer who’s character is living in LA, I’m very much looking forward to trouble in the city. I already posted my 1 regret and nostalgia, but it won’t stop me from immersing in the game, and face the attack as rp denizen of Lions Arch

Mixed feelings here.

For one, I have a nostalgia feeling about LA, playing Guild Wars since launch of GW1…

Second, I don’t mind it being destroyed in battle, provided the battle is awesome, and that later there will be more left than ruined, ugly and sad location where nothing happens. Doesn’t have to be city in there, but as long as it’s interesting, it’s fine with me.

And lastly, the biggest minus – if I ever wanted to see LA destroyed, after White Mantle and Mursaat invasion, Risen, Krytans, tsunami etc, I’d want the city to be razed by soemone AT LEAST equal to those forces, not as nonsensical and flimsy as Scarlet.

Don’t get me wrong, LS IS very much improved since Tower of Nightmares, and keeps improving, but that does not change how badly conceived and written Scarlet is.

It could just as well be destroyed by Pinkie Pie, in my opinion, and it wouldn’t be more ridiculous. I’ll just play it and loudly yell “lalalala” with eyes closed everytime Scarlet is mentioned or on screen, as always.

First of all, nice temper you have there, friend.

Second of all, as I thought was obviously pointed in post (I do have a tendency to make convoluted sentences though, so maybe I wasn’t clear enough) I am in my idea working with a base foundation of “assuming that lane line crossings coincide with unnatural phenomena”, so if the above statement is not the case, then the idea is false. Duh, as they say.

Third of all, yep, Temple of Ages and such could also be marked as fitting location, regardless of undoubtful Hollywood factor in choosing LA. However neither of the places can match in scale with the LA events in my opinion. You are of course entitled to your own.

Fourth of all, your “being stunned” over an assumption stuns me, really. “I get this” from the “what if…” factor in the hole idea, it’s not based on any in game or out of game existing proof, or I would present it.

Fifth of all “Also, I see you later on changed your view and declared that it is tied to the cyclical nature of things… so, by your logic, the largest ley line should swirl around the harpy colonies somewhere east of the Blazeridge or Dzalana…? Badum-tish!”… Really? I never changed anything, ion my idea, the entirety of my post is “It may be that recurring and powerful unnatural phenomena in Lions Arch suggest that Lions Arch may indeed be founded on a major ley line crossing”.

And in the end, I don’t appreciate your unwarranted hostility towards me, and while I consider your counter arguments valid, the discussion looses a lot due to amount of sarcasm, so I withdraw. I felt like sharing the idea to maybe build it into some constructive theory, but since it cannot be done, I’ll keep my thoughts to myself in the future.

Yeah I meant Augury Rock! It’s been ages, I guess it’s time for a trip down the memory lane and playing GW1 again!

Alright, let’s see.

Lions Arch – every year almost each year opens a portal to Underworld, on wintersday and other occasions also a sight of large scale penomena and incursions from the Mists. Which means repeated and major cyclical magical events.

Central Transfer Chamber – Place of immense power, where asura hosted their main asura gate hub in GW:EN – caused by the presence of Primordus in hibernation, major leaking from his slumbering body. Primordus is awake, PLace is just a cave nowadays I bet, no data to say for sure.

Artesian Waters – Alright, this might be a good cometitor for LA… Place where gods first stood on Tyria. But does it mean ley lines cross there? Hard to say, plus Zhaitan was residing nearby, quite possible he drained the places magic, and even if not, there is no tales of recurring, cyclical phenomena.

Thaumanova – a lab made on intersection of ley lines, where chaos energy has been unleasehd resulting in quite a lot of destruction – I suppose it could count BUT it’s where Scarlet found the ley lines crossing in teh first place, she would have to reuse old location, and who knows what happened to ley lines during explosion? I would assume that for whatever reasons reusing of the same location is not possible, OR ley lines crossing was somehow weaker or unfitting for her schemes.

Prophet Pass – or whatever was the place called in GW1, where one could create a bridge to the Mists and enter Hall of Heroes – It certainly could be a fitting place, except the way I see it, it has Kralkie sitting on top of it. From ones you named, Thalador I would say it’s the best competitor for a major ley line crossing for LA AND it has an Elder Dragon sitting on top of it.

So yeah, this is the contest, who wins in terms of most magical phenomena? I say by sheer cyclical nature it could be Lions Arch.

Which leads me to believe that by way of locating known Dragons – Zhaitan and Kralk in places of huge power I can extrapolate that LA is on Par with Arah and Elona Reach when it comes to ley line power and there would be a big chance thee might be a sleeping Dragon under it :P

Ok, that last part is a huge stretch, but hey, why the hell not, a snack during sleep?

ps. if the Central Chamber has ley line crossings, then remember it also had a Primordus sleeping on it. SO that makes 3 Dragons, one might think a pattern emerges?

ps2, Hell, I’m gonna go on a road trip to see if there is a piece of Mordie sticking out of LA somewhere lol.

Except for LA being a site of annual Underworld (Mad Realm) opening LA is as Thaladoe say. But the barrier between Tyria and Mists is weakest in LA, not anywhere elsde. Mad King comes to LA, Wintersday thing was happening in LA, and so on.

It makes sense that it’s a central ley line intersection actually, as testified by M.K. Thorn, tons of demons, all wintersdays in GW1 etc.

So yeah, of all of Tyria maybe Deslation, Door of Komalie and maybe Raisu Palace can possibly come close seconds to Lions Arch when it comes to otherwordly incursions and phenomena, I don’t think any place can quite compete though.

Hey, what if the Pale Tree doesn’t have inherent connection to the Dream like everyone assumes she/it has? What if the Pale Tree is only able to create mind link with her fruit (sylvari) to give them simple abilities (walk, talk, fight) at birth (thus explaining Malyck – dreamless, yet has skills).

The Dream can be a phenomenon not inherently connected to Pale tree, it could be an effect of prolonged influence of filthy hippies Ronan and Ventari, who lived near the seed they have planted as it grew!

Thus, our Pale Tree would be uniquely connected to the Dream, and have strong morals of filthy hippy Ventari and his tablet, BUT at the same be subject to the Dream and other creatures inhabiting it – including malevolent beings, perhaps even an elder dragon?

That theory could place the puzzles together and form a coherent picture perhaps, with further research?

To make it short, WHAT IF:

- Pale Tree(s) only by default give their fruit basic skills, and our Pale Tree is connected to Dream because of Ventari?

- What if the Dream is independent from Pale Tree and not all Pale Trees have connection to it? After all not every stag has the connection, only the White one?

- What if our Pale Tree and by extension Nightmare Court/Scarlet are exposed to influence of a malevolent being dwelling in the dream that other trees (including Malyck’s Tree) are not subject too, thus explaining M.’s lack of Dream, basic skillset and not being a Dragon CHampion with a single stroke?

I will be stalking her day and night, untill I find out all she knows (“Being a norn Faleg steps on the progeny and squished her, so we will never know! Oh, wait, it was only Braham, phew.”)

Huh, I play a norn. Why would Logan (who my character saw three times tops) would talk with my norn about Rytlock’s (three times tops) warband?

All I gathered from hastily eyeing the text is that he doesn’t know much about them btw.

I can also be completely wrong, didn’t have time to read the text, as I said.

Lesson for the future? When talking to a non stationary instances with running NPC’s – take screenshots, read later. Wise polish man after damage is done.

I’d pay careful attention to Taimi, she is 100% on to Scarlet’s true intention, according to my gut, and the fact that others ignore her words, which (by following tv show/Hollywood movie standards) means she is right and many bad things could be avoided if Braham the Short and rest of the gang would listen to her.

While I agree it can be annoying to do admirably jsut to watch someone else blow your work to hell, it has a good side: When everyone counts on you, and you bloody kick puppy and win! Of course being able to come to aid of those who are still struggling on the platform would be nice…

The Marionette is Well Designed: Here's Why

Just pitching in – I love the big dolly and I spend all days doing it almost.

Ok, that came out wrong, but you know what I mean.

It’s a very enjoyable event, with just enough challenge to feel satisfaction when victorious, chest or no chest, yet not difficuilt enough to require long training to defeat.

I plan to continue dancing with the Big Lady untill she is removed, or when I move on to wurm and find it just as enjoyable!

Please, more encounters like that, best so far, big kudos, please don’t ban me for the joke in first sentence! Thanks!

Personally, I LOVE the Marionette, the tactics, strategy and all that!
It’s the first LW event I do even though it’s not necessary for my meta achievement (I could just do wurm once for 11 days), or daily reward.

And I can’t stand Scarlet!
