I hope that the silence is because of the Dev’s working on patching up inevitable problems with implementation to begin with, and we will hear from them. After all, even a small change to a complex system like that is not a task for 20 minutes, right?
I guess we will see in the next couple of weeks, but it’s imperative that we keep raising our hands in objection until we receive an answer.
And of course, we must not under any circumstances fall into flaming and derogative posts, those most certainly will not help.
We must be like Gandhi – peacefully fight for what we need
.
PS. And I don’t speak suahili all that well :P
Hapa kwenda, mimi kwa kweli kama lugha. Uzuri sauti, na anataka kuimba
.
Ok, let’s not derail the thread
.
I have a better solution to this whole mess : How about adding a universal translator to the game, translating every language (including English, French, German, Spanish or maybe Greek) into Swahili?
That way everyone will see the same thing, so no more complaints!
Wazo nzuri! Hebu kufanya hivyo!
I couldn’t stop myself
I agree the accusation and paranoia are not the good way to go, and I don’t think taking down the megaserver will be a good thing to do! If anything, taking it down would make ANet look really silly.
However, that does not mean that they cannot or should not try to give us a bit of a helping hand and allow us to play as we like, the RP tag for us that we could select to be grouped with other roleplayers, instead of some random people is enough, I think.
I’m afraid this thread will soon degrade into pointless flaming though.
Yeah, I stopped buying gems completely (even though I am lazy when it comes to gold farming so I have to stop myself every now and again), and even though I have a second account I was about to “pimp up” for an rp plot I had in mind involving gearing up and outfitting three characters at least, I won’t even bother logging in on it for the first time.
Until I can see how the situation develops, I’ll keep the 0 spent money policy, and continue playing and roleplaying, though for the first time since GW1 beta, I lost faith in the game, and am looking at competition for my future gaming time.
Too bad, that all we want is a way to enjoy the game with like minded people, and are being ignored in simple request to make megaserver factor us in as a part of the playerbase…
Too bad they screwed the roleplayers in every way imagineable. I don’t RP, but wow, they really dropped the ball on this in that department…
I want to praise this update, I do. But I just can’t knowing how much some people had their whole game world turned upside down, especially knowing that some of those people were the biggest buyers of gems in the game.
And on top of that, some of the nicest people in the game.
Thanks for kind words, mate! It’s good to see people understanding our situation right now, cheers to you!
True, still the only thing we can do is bump this thread with positive criticism and “cease and desist” all purchases with real money until we are listened to and recognized as part of the playerbase.
It’s the only way we can even hope to be noticed, if we stop purchasing gems with real money, and voice WHY we are doing it.
Only other options are comply and forgo any hope of ever being listened to, or give up and go do something else.
Again, I for one am going to first do just that, stop buying gems with real currency. I would stop playing completely, as many other people I talked with would, if not for friends I made in the game. Should they leave, so will I of course.
Such a shame, really.
I’m very, very disgruntled right now… While I will continue to play the game, I’m not buying a single gem with real money anymore. Oh well, I’ll wait a month or three and get myself a new PC with that money instead (Yes, I spend around 100 euro/month on gems. Well, not anymore I don’t!)
I actually lack of things to say at this moment, if the cities were in fact merged then.. well, I am very disappointed…
So they have went back on their word?
Gotta go check myself… If it’s true, it’s bad news indeed.
-snip “magic ocean and ley lines being currents” theory-
In Edge of the Mists, Taimi and Braham compare ley lines to wind currents. And I think in a live stream, Angel McCoy compared to ocean currents.
Really? I missed them saying that and sadly haven’t seen the live stream.
Oh well, thanks for clarification! And since I know I’m at least thinking on right track, then my post assumption (currents being the assumption) logic should also be correct then?
By post assumption logic I mean “knowing the factors causing magic to move we could mathematically pinpoint their location over time” not the “if it’s correct then Scarlet had logic behind placing all those probes”.
Assuming that my logic is correct, then probes were needed, and with the knowledge we have on factors infuencing ley lines (we know that they move, as Konig said we know that they are like currents, ergo they are the result of internal tension influenced by external factors, we know that Dragons are a factor pulling magic when awake, pushing when asleep. If there is anything else, I don’t know it, hence can’t count in the equation) it seems mathematically inevitable that that magic released from a ley line pressure point (intersection) being disturbed will drift towards the nearest Elder Dragon.
Yes, Thaumanova is closer, but it couldn’t be used probably because of the catastrophe, and it’s existence would not change the final destination of released magic, maybe cause it to detour, but not change it’s ultimate heading.
It’s quite simple. Released magic floats towards nearest/strongest nearby gravity field.
If you take a sheet of plastic, stretch it, and then put a lead ball somewhere on it, and then pour water on the plastic, it’s going to go towards the lead ball.
If there would be multiple lead balls, most water would go towards nearest and/or heaviest one.
Of course, we don’t know if there are other factors pushing/pulling magic in the equation, so I didn’t count them in, my math was made with couting in Dragons pulling the released magic, magic’s own impetus after release and it’s direction, and pulling forces – other intersections, (like Thaumanova for example, and sources of strong magic). In all variables except for three the math indicates that magic would hit Mordremoth when released from LA.
The variables that COULD provide a different result: A – initial direction of ley line burst would be east (any other direction causes dragon feeding time).
B – Burst’s impetus would be by far greater than Dragons pulling force, AND it would head in a direction other than west/south west/north west.
C – Another Elder Dragon would be closer OR would be pulling magic with far greater force than Mordremoth.
I think it’s a great filter! It instantly notifies me that people who advertise party with AP requirements are NOT worth grouping with (same as “No profession X, Y and Z” or “Zerker only”).
If they didn’t inform the world in their LFG advert that they are kittenbags I might unknowingly join their party and then be frustrated and loose faith in humanity – but because they do post such adverts, I’m a happier person overall eliminating toxic players from my environment.
EDIT- lol kittenbags. Meow. This is gonna be my new catchphrase
!

Here we go again …
You won’t lose the stack on weapon swap, you’ll lose when you un-equip the weapon. What people do nowadays is have a weapon in the inventory with a kill stack sigil, use it until he has full stack, then equip another weapon with different sigil.
Oh, I understood that weapon swap will cause me to loose stacks. Got confused a little I guess. No problem then!
I’ll choose copypaste last paragraph for you mate!
“The only factor that could be counted in that could possibly prevent the waking of Mordremoth after disrupting LA crossing would be Thaumanova, but it blew up. Perhaps it was Scarlet’s intention all along to destroy the reactor?”
I did think of that rather obvious hole in the theory, and did take in consideration. And BTW chaos magic that was researched in Thaumanoca is not the same as Dragon magic, and nowhere it is stated that ley lines are channel for draconic energy. It’s just magic afaik.
Actually, the game changed a lot before it was released, go watch GW1 early trailer, should shed some more light on the name of the franchise
. I’ve no idea where to look for it nowadays though…
Heh, I guess I’ll have to stop using build up sigils then, kind of sucks, but then again, I’ll have a free sigil slot!
It’s what I did, but in reverse! I rarely have time to play in evenings, so I transferred to NA server, and I play with Americans.
They have prime time when I wake up and drink my coffee, which is when I have time to play
No, build up will not be lost, also if you have different build up sigils on different weapons, it will continue to count kills towards already active build up.
For example, I have a 1h sword with precision build up, and an axe with power build up. Killed something with axe (+10 power), then swapped, killed a thing with sword and get another +10 to power.
Unless it was a bug
Let’s see:
- No trait for boosting these… maybe autoboosting on range boost?
- In the Promo Videos: 1-2 shot mobs. Can we do it? Nah…
- In the Promo Videos: Pets can kill easy. Can they do it? Not likely.
- In the Promo Videos: Horn skill #4 birds can STOP & Kill an ogre. Reality? LMAO.
- In the Promo Videos: You can make your own combos (fire arrows). Ingame? Never saw it!
- In the Promo Videos: Serpent Strike is 1hitKill. LOLOLOLOLOL.
- In the Promo Videos: Whirling Defense makes grawls to kill themselves. Ooooh
Your question is a good one, but know; “Promo videos are always boosted”
1 – Agreed.
2 – Sure we can, on lvl 80 full exotics/ascended I can one shot level 2-5 mobs, like in the promo video!
3 – My pet can’t, unless I’d retrait, then it could.
4 – Our birds can stop and kill an ogre with last 2-3k health left! Like in promo video!
5 – Try throwing a fire trap, and shoot arrows through it when it’s active. Fire arrows! You know, combos come from actually comboing things.
6 – same as 2 basically.
7 – I once tossed a harpy with her own knockdown (in fractals) using Whirling Strike, killing grawl is nothing
And remember, promo video is promo video, but you can simulate the results if you wanna. But why?
Also, I remember SB #4 used to have a skyrim refference on it. Good times!
You can’t salvage karma items BUT you can toss 4 of them into Mystic Toilet and get a piece you CAN salvage, or sell.
It might not be worth the effort, but it is a way to at least get something back if you have useless karma gear stuffing up your inventory.
I’d think that the answer to " why ley lines and not a single giant magic blob " is quite simple, and can be deduced from our own real life.
To be precise – currents in our oceans. It’s not the case that on Tyria magic only exists on ley lines, magic exists everywhere on Tyria.
So I think the reason for existance of ley lines in Tyria is the same as reason for existance of currents in oceans – internal tension of the magic “ocean”, causing some magic to concentrate in lines of least ressistance and flow accordingly to “mass” pressure.
While on Earth the ocean currents are responding to gravity cycles, of the moon, sun, and movement of earth itself (among other factors), I’m not going to go as far as to suplicate the metaphor that far.
Anyway, I think it’s the logical assumption to make, that ley lines can be easily explained as “currents in the ocean of magic”. I could probably come up with a mathematical way of presenting my case using known factors to show my case, but I think the metaphor gets my point across.
AFTERTHOUGHT EDIT: Actually, if my theory is correct, then Scarlet’s work with probes is given validation.
As you all know, Scarlet MUST have known about LA intersection before hand, as proven by her previous attack on LA, intending to weaken the defenses. Yes she still placed probes all over Tyria.
If the “magic ocean and ley lines being currents” theory is correct, Scarlet would have to make sure that there are no major intersection nearer to Mordremoth, and when it was proven that LA is in fact nearest, then disturbing the flow of magic in any way in that spot would inevitably cause magic to flow straight to the Dragon, without any additional calculations needed.
Pure mathematics of known factors influencing the flow of magic through Tyria would be enough to be 100% certain, that disrupting a major ley line intersection would cause the released stream of magic to flow directly to the point where the Dragon sleeps.
The only factor that could be counted in that could possibly prevent the waking of Mordremoth after disrupting LA crossing would be Thaumanova, but it blew up. Perhaps it was Scarlet’s intention all along to destroy the reactor?

We’re not saying their classes are weak. D.E 2.0 characters are weak. Taimi is a bit of a saving grace (though I don’t think so because of her leg problem, she is just a good character), though I don’t get why she has more makeup than adult asura, or even human females!
yeah I know they’ll be redeemable at the end, I just wanna know in advance so I don’t miss it!
I’m personally waiting till wvw tournament ends so I can grab a 1h sword from it. I like it’s scimitar-ish/chineese sword crossover mix. It’s gonna fit my main nicely, too bad it’s so white!
What I don’t understand is why the GW2 “team” seems so lame. Marjory is the only personality that seems “heroic”. I didn’t play GW1, but Destiny’s Edge seems very heroic – what happened?
Well it’s only their first real adventure. Give them some time to grow. Braham and Rox were great during F&F if you ask me.
And contrary…the best of them is the youngest…in age and in live story age
.
Imho, they just made them to stupid and to good at the same time. DE 1.0 is smarter Snaff/Zoija+Eir. DE 1.0 is stronger Caithe+Logan+Rytlock. DE1.0 is just more mature. DE2.0 feels like a bunch of teenagers. Only thing I see from them is kissing and flirting with each other. Emotions and stuff…not very helping in being heroic.
So. What do we have? True mature heroes on one side (DE1.0) and silly kids on another (DE2.0). Obviously, you wouldnt feel good, if your party consisted of 10 year old schoolgirls and an ape.
Also they lack sylvari. Sylvari is a master race and u can’t feel safe if u have no sylvari in party!!!!!
A lot of this. But minus the sylvari part, the only thing they are masters of is salad bowl. :P
Yep, it would. But it’s really more about mass and balance than weight alone.
Oh, a 1.2 meter long sword would be slow to use anyway, compared to polearms and one handed swords
.
I really can’t say about the length, I only know metric system
. 1.2 meter sword can be both a longsword or a two handed sword, depending on the weight. And of course the collectible website is by no means an expert source of information
.
As for fighting techniques it really depends, as was mentioned above by Snakes, longswords were mostly used with two hands as well, but I think stances etc. vary slightly?
I can’t really help you there, I’m more of a sword and shield/ sword and sword/ axe person myself, plus I work with early medieval, it’s a different set of pants altogether
.
Almost every day, to do some wvw, or RP.
There’s a lot of placeholders in the game, I think they are placed there to give Devs a possibility to expand the game in the future, but wouldn’t bet that every one of them will be used.
So far Dev team seems content creating new lore and “lore” rather than expanding or returning to old one. Shame really.
I thought the same, but there is no official statement about it anywhere I can find.
Check out this link, mate!
http://www.medievalcollectibles.com/p-21635-two-handed-templar-sword-with-scabbard.aspx
The sword you post looks almost exactly like a two handed sword used by the Templars (the guy even wears Knight Templar tabbard), so I say it’s this one.

I hope the ranger one gets fixed…infinite pet healing is broken in spvp
It’s not OP, just kill the pet. The skill has a very long CD. Of if you just tunnel vision the downed ranger, then I understand your concern, but it’s the skill’s fault.
Crazy answer: I miss GW1 Hard Mode
.
Hehe, took me almost a week and many attempts to do it alone with all teh fighting and ganking going on now with the meta achievement!
In the end I got lucky and stumbled on a massive 3 way battle by the waypoints that concentrated all 3 servers in combat near entrance (effectively preventing anyone from continuing the puzzle) and then slipped by to finish jp with only a few gankers hidden in the dark to worry about. After they died by my sword they also got tangled in the battle and I finished JP
.
Plus I got a big chunk for my 300 kills achievement!
If you choose the right skin, then sure, i does fit!
My main since early launch, Faleg, son of Oglaf
. On the pic with greatsword and in PvE armour, though I run all the wepons and different armour ses for different activities
.
An alternate way of putting HM in would be to downgrade the individual players more while leaving the mobs untouched except that their loot tables would be changed for HM players.
This would allow HM and NM players to play on the same maps and would not have the additional lowering of map populations.
But then normal mode players could boop in and interfere with HM players doing their thing effectively erasing the Hard in Hard Mode.
As for other comments, yeah, I realize the difficulties in implementing it, re-balancing loot tables, event scaling and so on., it certainly would be a lot of work even in most simplistic implementation.
And yes I am doing fractals on high levels, depending on how time allows.
I was just wandering, now that the Megaservers are being introduced, thus freeing a lot of server space and creating bigger population on existing maps… would Hard Mode be possible?
I see one way it may possibly work, allow me to elaborate with an example:
A level 80 character who fully explores all maps of the game (or PS, all Dungeons, passes a mega hard solo test, w/e) could receive a possibility to enter game in Hard Mode on character screen.
Upon entering Hard Mode Tyria all monsters would be effectively upgraded – mobs to elite, vets to champions, champions to legendary, legendary to Barbara Streissand :P.
On Hard Mode all events would happen as normal, the map would be reset for HM exploration.
Of course, HMT would be held on separate Megaserver than normal maps, so Hard Mode maps would be populated only by people who have HM enabled on their accounts.
And for increased rewards (I don’t really care for rewards myself, but most people need an incentive) we could have +X Magic Find (where X is an arbitrary number chosen by Developers) and/or unique skins having random chance of dropping or maybe for exploring the whole map/finishing event there would drop tokens that could be used to purchase unique Hard Mode skins?
Anyway, that’s my idea, do you think this, or a different setting of Hard Mode could be implemented with Megaserver sometime in the future?
I tried to form my idea so that it would be doable with the game engine and not an overwhelming amount of work, but I’m not a programmer, so what do I know
.
And I don’t insist on implementing my idea exactly, just Hard mode in some form?
As for the good sides of HMT (that I see):
- it would provide challenge for experienced players
- it would breathe new life into players who already completed everything, or near everything
- It would be a bucket full of challenge and fun!
- it would create need for other specs than just zerk, with mobs upgraded we would need to operate in parties with different roles to beat the content.
Bad sides (that I see):
- It can create a false disparity between HM players, and regular players (which didn’t happen in GW1, but I see it as a possibility)
- Veteran players could accumulate gold much faster than new players (which could be fought by let’s say Y gold fee for entering Hard Mode)
- It can tin out the population (either normal, or HM maps would take on influx of players leaving other desolate)
Glad you made up your mind and hope we helped
BTW, any information on where would the merchant to redeem the tickets will be placed?
Yeah, it was a fun and educating discussion! Take care!
Yeah, you guys brake less equipment and bones from I hear?
EDIT: I mean over there in the west :P
It’s a really interesting subject, same as archery. I’m quite an accomplished archer myself
.
And trust me, nothing beats the feeling of charging at enemy lines sword in hand!
There are no HEMA clubs in Poland as far as I know (but I as I said, I’m more into early medieval times, armour is not my style
), but we have quite a developed reenactment scene.
(edited by zwierz.9012)
Yep, especially between different cultures
.
Aight, so I did some research, and if I’m correct the name longsword applies to both one handed longswords used by for example scandinavians and slavic peoples in 10th century, and bast’’ard swords apparently, especially in British and German documentation.
So if I unintentionally mislead anyone, I’m sorry, nomenclature can be a real kitten sometimes.
And yeah, Snakes, I do mostly 8th to 10th century stuff, hence was apparently not aware of double naming. Well, what’s 400 years one way or the others, right?
That explains much! Ok, so in my native language longsword doesn’t mean the same as in english apparently o.O. I was sure that what you link is called a "bas"""ta’’’rd" sword though?
