I wouldn’t consider myself a top PvP player by any stretch of the imagination, but I’ve PvP’d in a few MMO’s and I find that anything that allows you to press all your skill buttons with minimal movement of your hand is best. My weapon skills are 1-5, Q is my heal, E R & T are my utilities, Z X C V are my toolbelt skills that I press with my thumb, Shift is my Elite and Caps Lock is my call target, with F as my down/rez button. Hope this helps!
Haha, I just switched my keybinds to this exact set up….I also play an engineer. Great minds think alike apparently.
Dodge I just double click directionally.
I am a journeyman pvper, but not great, so I will be interested to see what the pros say.
I would also strongly urge you to build your own. Especially if you don’t plan on quitting gaming in the next few years.
Fifteen years ago I barely knew how to turn on a PC. I bought my first one at Best Buy, paid way too much and generally got ripped off.
I had a friend who helped me put together my next one. Since then, I have built all my machines…I get a new gaming PC about every two and a half years.
There is no comparison between buying one pre-built and building your own.
You can pick all your components to make sure you are getting quality gear and you have complete control over budget.
If there is any way you can do it yourself, I urge you to.
That being said, that doesn’t look like too bad a deal, other than the video card has to go.
At least 9 out of 10 links, I cannot open. Always says bad link whether I click on it or copy link location to address bar.
What is the deal and does anyone know how I fix it?
Using latest version of Firefox.
Thanks.
Ok, I need to pick a class already. Playing for a month and still don’t have a character above level 20.
I think I have it narrowed down to either Necro or Ranger but can’t decide. I like them both but just need to stick with one already.
Any guidance or thoughts?
Thanks.
Thanks much guys, that is what I thought.
Today I was playing my ranger and got into a one on one with another ranger at a capture point. He totally smoked me.
I’m still fairly new to the game and afterwards I saw that he was rank 40.
Does the higher rank have anything to do with your power or was it just a case of him being more experienced, better specced etc.?
Thanks much.
Wow, great job! Stickification please!
Have been fooling around with different classes and now have a 25 engineer. I am on the Tarnished Coast server and am wondering how I go about looking for groups for dungeons…I think there is a level 30 one?
Also, I have read about fractals but not sure if I am high enough level for those.
Thank you.
1. Thief. Insane burst combined with the ability to disappear. There is a reason you see more of these than any other class in spvp. People love to faceroll and always have.
2. Mesmer. burst/survivability. There is a reason this is the the class you see more frequently than anything other than thieves.
3. D/D elementalist. Great mobility, good burst, great survivability, great cc all in one build. The FOTM right now.
The above 2 1/4 classes are ezmode. In pvp you are playing from the ladies’ tees.
4. Warriors are in a good place, they are strong but I don’t believe they are OP.
5. Guardians, don’t think they are as strong as warriors but still in a good place.
6. Rangers, definitely not as strong as a Warrior, need to work harder for kills, but ok.
In my opinion the above classes are in good shape but just not as good as the top tier.
7. Necro, definitely need to work a lot harder with this class to do well.
8. Engineer, the weakest class in pvp.
The above two classes are definitely a challenge to play well.
So like every other mmo to date there are imbalances. I hope Anet works on them.
I only know what I’ve read here: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/january-2013 and heard on a couple of GW2 Podcasts.

Thanks.
Agreed that game is CPU dependent. The good news is that modern day processors are so overclockable its easy to get great performance on the cheap.
I am running really well on a 2 year old 2.8 ghz i5 760. Have it running @ 4.01 ghz and could probably go higher.
Read up on overclocking, always watch your temps and get a decent after market cooler….they are really cheap these days as well.
You said we mostly know what is going to be in the patch. I have not been able to find any info on what the patch is going to contain and when it is going live.
Could you point me in the right direction….I probably am looking right past it somewhere.
Thanks.
As far as what I would like to see….just a nerf of the obvious ez mode faceroll classes. Specifically, thieves, mesmers and d/d eles. Getting really sick of seeing so many in spvp all the time.
I am always interested in class distribution and couldn’t really find an up to date topic on this subject when I bought the game a couple of weeks ago.
Thought I would post my observations for anyone interested and please feel free to add your thoughts.
From running around in the game world and doing quite a bit of spvp here is how I would rank the classes based on how often I see them.
1. Thief…by a lot
2. Mesmer
3. Elementalist (90% of which are D/D)
4. Warrior
5. Guardian
6. Ranger
7. Necro
8. Engineer
And like all MMOs since the dawn of time the stronger a class is the more people you see playing it and the weaker a class is the less people you see playing it.
So I think the above list would also do pretty well to rank the classes in order of pvp power.
Balance seems to be generally pretty good overall but I would say there are definitely have and have not classes. The top three being particularly strong (definitely playing from the ladies’ tees with these) and the bottom three being more challenging.
I always wondered why some dev doesn’t put in place a buffing/debuffing mechanic where if there are a ton of one class on at any given time they receive a debuff and if there are very few of another, they receive a buff. Seems like it would be a good way to
even things out while they are working on class balance.
Wow great videos. I’m only level 15 but it gives me something to shoot for! The build I have been using in pvp is very similar in concept to your Napalm specialist…I enjoyed looking at your skill tree. Thanks for posting.
I now have 4 classes to 15, Engineer, Necro, Ranger and Guardian. One way or the other I want to pick one and stick with it. I think I have it narrowed down to Engi or Necro.
I usually like tanky heavy plate wearers but I just didn’t like my Guard that much and struggled with him in spvp. The Ranger is cool and I did really well with him in spvp, but I don’t really like the way the medium armor looks on a ranger.
The necro seems stronger than engineer and I found a build I really like for the mists. The engi is a lot tougher to play but seems like he will have a lot of versatility while leveling.
I can’t decide!
I just started last week and have been fooling around with different classes. So far I have played a Guardian, Necro, Engineer and a Ranger to level 15 or so. One thing I have done quite a bit of is spvp.
The Ranger just felt so much stronger in both pve and pvp than the other classes. I don’t understand what it is that makes them so bad. In spvp in particular I did extremely well.
Is it that they are bad or is it just that they aren’t the godmode class that archers typically are in other mmos, and people are disappointed by that?
Trying to pick a main and stories about being turned away at higher levels for dungeons and pvp groups are disheartening.
