I’ll agree if they cut the damage amounts that present siege can do to those same gates/walls to about 1/10-1/20th. Siege is already way overpowered.

Siege over powered? That is the point its suppose to be a defining factor. Furthermore, how does it make any sense that wall should be almost instantaneously back up x 10 times in a row. I know its a game but trapping players inside a keep/tower because a wall section was ninja repaired to 1-5% hp goes too far.

Dare I say it but DAOC did not allow insta rebuild.

Yes they would. Anet apparently is shocked at how popular WvW is and I think they are trying to play catch up in stuff like this. It should be coming but how long? I would be surprised at anything under 6 six months from now.

I expect to see a good bit of churn in the rankings because of the blowouts we have in the current matchups.

I think the 24 hour matchups did a decent job of separating servers so they matched up decently for that style of play, but it took a couple of matches to get there. I am fairly sure it will take a couple 7 day matches before the rankings are more representative of long term performance as well.

Some worlds are great at 24 hour matches, but a 7 day match plays out much differently than a 24 hour match. I expect that the servers that are dominating during non peak hours will start to float to the top of the rankings after winning matches against worlds that don’t have great 24 hour coverage, and eventually those worlds will be in put in matches that reflect their abilities during all hours of the day.

I do not expect things to somehow magically be much better in the next match, but I do expect that matchups should start getting better as worlds will now start being sorted based on their 7 day performances.

Its upsetting how calm and unconcerned your tone is about the prior match ups. Look at the data Mike, 95% of those match ups were mathematically impossible for the other two teams to win days prior to the end up the match up.

30% of the player base is in WvW do you really want to not provide them with a competitive match?

Please consider changing the match ups to 3-4 days for now while populations level off and you get more ranking data. 7 days to clear each noncompetitive match up is just way too long.

My calc using +50 points for a win. -10 for a clear second place (only for Stormbluff and Blackgate) and -45 for a loss (if both servers were getting beat badly both got -45 points).

God, I hope they don’t use that formula because IoJ will be stuck with SoS. I don’t dislike them but two servers with the exact same time zone gaps ( Ioj’s is less, thus why we came in 2nd place) causes too much of an imbalance because there is not a 3rd large oceanic server.

I think the unknown in the top 3 tiers is Black Gate and IoJ. Does IoJ get moved into a 2 place group or be matched up with the 3rd place server in Tier 1, JQ, and the winner from Tier 3, CD.

Either way, as a member of IoJ, I want a good fight and I think either matchup would work. I just don’t want to be matched up with SoS again. Its clear by the scoring and what we have seen this week that IoJ is has a stronger NA presence abit still smaller than most in its rank. When we get matched up with SoS it creates a situation where WvW at NA prime time is effectively a 1 v 1. and the side with the most structures has too large an advantage.

Keep in mind that Arena Net is looking at the total population of servers. WvW does not make up the majority of a servers population. The only thing that matters for wvw is the section of the population that is actually in the borders or queued up. Theoretically you could create a low population server made up of only the top players in wvw 24/7 and it should top the server rankings, yet the server would be a ghost town outside of wvw.

The mistake is the same that has been made in almost every open pvp game. The assumption that most pvp players want or enjoy a fair fight. They don’t. As we are seeing now a very large section of the player base would prefer to sit in a queue and never set foot in the borderlands so long as they can claim to be on a ‘winning’ server. I am afraid that in the end population imbalance can only truly be addressed by the players. All Arena Net can do is put in artificial boosts and incentives that never work that well. Unless players as a group decide to even out the servers (i.e. large alliances breaking up, major guilds moving to lower tier servers, off peak players spreading out) then this is about as good as it gets.

Most players want a fair fight. They also want to be with like minded players. Rank number 4 server is medium population. People are getting demoralized to as well. When 1 side owns all of the map that is an unfair fight and people dislike it. So I think you need to stop assuming the worse of people. There are some who like a sure victory but lets not over generalize or assume that is the minority. The vast amount of players in GW2 are playing on a losing WvW server. (only 1 server wins of 3). \

No Strenght of structures makes mismatches worse. Mismatch servers outnumbered servers have to always siege fully upgraded towers and keeps with full supples.

Daoc didint have server rankings and WvW had more indivial achievements.

Mismatches happen because even match servers do not divide by 3.

The system will balance itself out after a few weeks due to worlds moving up and down the rankings to face worlds with similar results.

This. You Gankhead-Zergfester types will just have to cool your jets while the servers get matched up. Let me also be the one to assure you that the people who are stuck in their spawn spots are no happier than you are.

If you really want a challenge, move back to the smaller servers for free, while you still can.

We are less happy then they are. Erredon Terrace guilds don’t care about unfair fights. They may kitten like this thread but SoS and IoJ people are just going to transfer now.

Please please fix this 7 day thing. You devs ruined Isle of Janthir and Sea of Sorrows. Good job. Job well done. If the devs dont put a stop to this matchup my guild is transfering to another server. Isle of Janthir and Sea of Sorrows will be pure PvE servers because the WvW guilds are going to leave. Ok ,we only have like 3 lol.

People will be transferring from bad matchups now more than anything. 1 week of being locked into a really bad matchup is going tokitten people off. Sea of Sorrows is going to lose players for sure if they keep ET, IoJ and SoS in this matchup for 1 week. I think Jade Quarry has that problem as well.

When we tried IoJ, when anyone tried to lead last night, everyone trolled them and did whatever. Thats not a great community from what we saw, at NA peak hours.

Their logic is “ATTACK F DEFENSE… O CRAP WE LOSING REGROUP AT WAYPOINT AND FIGHT AT T HE SWAMP TO TRY TO TAKE OUR FORT BACK”

Isle of Janthir North American players in WvW need organization not going to try to sugar coat that. Janthir is the exact opposite of most top servers. It has a strong Aussie/Korean community but NA prime time coordination needs work. A lot of unguilded WvW players or players in token guilds but not WvWing together. Isle does not have enough WvW focused guilds looking to help the puggers out.

I am working on it with some ideas. I just launched Isle of Janthir Players Association [JWvW| which is going to be a shell guild players who like WvW can join as a 2ndary guild and use it as a sorta /map /team.

So people are trying to get NA players coordinated. Its going to be a struggle but we already have a great Aussie/Korean community which allows us to be ranked six.

If you run a good WvW in Isle of Janthir during prime time you can pick up a lot of new members. I am running nightly 10-15 man’s and I am getting about 3 people each night asking to join my guild (not JWvW). I don’t even ask them to join. So plenty of recruitment potential for a NA WvW guild.

In Summary, Isle of Janthir has its issues just like every other server not ranked in first place. Our strong point is our Aussie and Korean community or weak point is NA Coordination and lack of WvW guilds and disorganized puggers.

I have not heard of any players mad at any particular server other than one incident in Eternal Battlegrounds with Blackagate and Jade Quarry or maybe Stormbluff.

Using the ranking system provided by ANet, there is a 200 point gap between 4th and 5th position, which is the largest WvW skill disparity, meaning that after the top 3 grouping is established, whoever is tossed into the meat grinder with the remaining team, has an extremely high probability to lose.

I currently play on Blackgate with about 30 other friends and guildmates, and we’re already looking to xfer off since we stand no chance against the night crews from any of the top 4 servers. We have faced all of the servers in the top 4 on a regular bases the past 2 weeks, it’s extremely evident there is no hope.

The situation for the 3 servers listed in the title is extremely simple: Try and win and you will lose forever. The only way to have a chance to win is to hope people will xfer to us that are good at WvW (which won’t happen, they will go to one of the top 4) or just roll over until we fall to a lower bracket so someone else gets screwed.

Blackgate and Northern Shiv had the same problem. Both were very dominant early on; only to have 4-8 big guilds transfer off and they slowly declined in ranking/wins in WvWvW.

Yeah but que times drastically improved.

Is anyone else concerned?

I agree with this, and made posts saying such in other threads.

Basically, I want to log in and see my server down. That way when I log off with my server up, I know I made a contribution.

I don’t understand the hair-pulling and jumping around that people do if their server falls behind while they are not logged on. It seems immature; it’s WvW for Pete’s sake, it’s determined by players from all over the world. It needs to be epic, and sometimes that means the challenges are epic.

Go run a dungeon or something if you always need to win, or you want the result to be based solely on your personal contribution.

These people are caught up in Server pride. Anet gave them the carrot (WvW rankings) and now people are upset when off peak players are the deciding factor.

Give them something more than server pride.

These people are not noobs or cry babbies. They are simply people who are frustrated with the limited factor of their server success or failure is determined by whether there is a strong off hours community or not.

The only thing noob about them is their mistake to believe Anet is going to actually do change WvW in regards to this issue.

For Anet WvW is biased towards access to casuals and limiting point score in WvW on off peak times or setting server windows of opportunity etc is too drastic for them.

Anet sold them Server pride and people bought it apparently, and they dont like not having something to be proud of due to a lack of off peak players.

Siege Golems are overpriced.

Siege Golems cost 100 supply each, move slow, and cant be healed or swiftnessed. They are not being used now because of all those reason and they cost 1 gold. I recall a dev saying that supply was the key limiting factor on siege not the cost of the blueprint. Currently, Siege Golems cost too much to use for their purpose however limited their purpose/role is. I understand some of you marketeers are rolling with big pockets but 1 gold per is a lot for the majority of us. This is not something you keep, so we are taking 1 gold for a disposable item with limited usefulness. Golems got over nerfed and they need a price adjustment at the very least. I totally understand they are not suppose to be the best siege item hands down and I want to be able to use them for their specific purpose but it’s too cost prohibitive.

I am blaming all the golem zerg vids in beta!

I dont see an issue with siege spam. Arrow carts can be countered from a distance with a treb. Increasing their cost is not the problem. The problem is the cost of trebs {too high?} or under use of them to counter siege. The Treb is the best anti siege weapon.

2 sided WvW is bad. WvW with 3 sides is better becasue losers can team up on the winner.

Orb of power is a problem when it can just hide in the Garrison. Orb fights in open field would be a blast. Garrison is too easily defended by respawn rushing. small groups should be able to grab the orb but it should not be able to put into a super safe spot such as the Garrison of a boarderlands.

Far less likely to get alliances shutting a single faction completely out.

Arena net isn’t going to address this issue. In fact, I guarantee we won’t get a reply. They’ll moderate you for your comments, but not reply to this issue that’s going to ruin the gaming of multiple servers. Remember, they already took your money, they don’t care if it ruins WvW for you. This is your punishment for having a job and not living on welfare; you can’t play video games all day/night long.

Probably the stupidest post of the century. Considering the amount of transparency Arena Net has displayed to its player base destroys any other gaming community in comparison.

I’m not asking for a reply, nor do I expect one. But I have a feeling after enough complaints, (which is rampant in this forum already) Anet will address it in some fashion.

Yeah I agree this guys comment is full of respentment about something else. I am not sure what a solution to the problem would be in regards to OP. I think if the server matchings were not all based on W/L but based on WvW server participation metrics and servers were put into classes and your class may change every two weeks depending on how much WvW particpation your server has and at what times. Class A could be servers that are like 100% WvW qued all the time and than go down from there.

If this really upsets you and your group you guys should just transfer. I dont think there is an easy short term fix here.

WvW is good xp with 10-15 players. WvW is more enjoyable than killing mobs. Plenty of challenge in WvW even when losing. I am not sure why if you cant win the matching WvW is worthless and a waste of time. In fact when losing there is even more fun to be had because the challenge is greater.

What server are you on?

Isle of Janthir. You need 8 people min in WvW with a small crew to do towers. (two rams = 80 supply). That way you can roll up on certain towers and 2 ram the door and take them quickly otherwise you dont have enough speed to avoid the zerg.

There needs to be something more to help WvW groupings of 6 -15 players. 100 gold for commander is too much and inappropriate. We don’t want to command the masses just some assistance in knowing where the other 5 person group is. Right now it’s Zerg guild/group of over 60 players to afford and appropriately use the commander or 5 people. Just give us something . Right now it’s mandatory voice comm usage with constantly having to give location updates at best.

Ideas for a solution:

20 person max commander lite system. 10 gold for book. Can keep private. Only map icon for squad members.

Guild waypoints/markets shows to all guild members in WvW map.

How about not an overflow server but additional maps? I don´t see why Arenanet should be limited to four WvW-Maps per matchup.

That is a solid approach, although I am not aware of what Anet hardware is capable of. Additional maps might not work considering the point system and how it works per tick – it would throw that off completely. Increasing map size would probably have the same issue – depending on the objectives added of course.

Increasing the capacity of those maps is an option, however, people already complain about zergs, and imo, I see large objectives such as keeps and garrisons being taken fairly quickly as it is.

I am not one to sit here and presume to know what is best. I just know that I am one of those people who love WvW, love to PvP and hate the queues as much as the next person.

My guild faithfully stands behind me and deals with the queues in hopes of getting in. I think if they saw that they were 120 in line, they would wait. If they saw they were 450 in line, they might go off and sPvP, which I would prefer than hearing the lament of fight starved guildies
