I finally leveled one of my toons from lvl1 to lvl80 with the NPE, so here’s my feedback:
The features that I hated.
- Some features are blocked on low levels, examples is diving goggles and skill points facepalms. I don’t mind if you can’t see them on the mini map when you’re low lvl, but if you find it… at least be accessible to everyone no matter what level.
- I CAN NO LONGER BUY APPLES FROM THE APPLE FARM! :< I can’t buy bread from the baker! RAWR.
-Underwater downed skills are level locked. I avoided going underwater until I had all 4 skills unlocked.
- The personal story is missing a big chunk of information that doesn’t tie much together after you completed it. I personally haven’t finished the personal story but after completing it, it didn’t feel “complete”. Then I realised “My greatest fear plotline was removed”
Some features that I loved.
- The objective compass was quite helpful to me, although it took me to places that I could die in 1 hit. Overall it was helpful although sometimes it didn’t.
- The beautiful pop up window for every level up is oh, so sparkly (and it has information too!). The rewards are quite good especially in when it started giving me exotics.
- Dodging tutorial.
- Lvling was generally very quick for the first 15 levels.
- Heart quests are easy to do now (I did miss the old ways though).
One feedback that some people may find positive or negative would be in regards that skill points are rewarded in “chunks” and primary stats are gained in “batches”. As a veteran player this really irritated me for probably the same reason that many are saying on the forums. However I also see this in another perspective: I get limited skill points and I have to spend it wisely. This convinces me to explore the world more in search for more skill points. Also with the primary stats gain in “batches”, this also somewhat helps me to be more skillful in combat because, well… too squishy.
Overall I find the NPE experience positive and it is definitely a good start to help with new players. However there were a few things that would like to see some changes.
Can I join the welcoming committee please?
I’m based on the Isle of Janthir server around AEDT times. On reddit as well, user is EdenFlorence (I have a toon with the same name).
A whisper/mail in-game or message on reddit will do.
Down with Mordremoth.

Superior Rune of the Bunny(6/6)
(1): +50% endurance regeneration
(2): +100% duration to swiftness when applied
(3): +99% chance to loot [Carrot] or [Lettuce] on kill
(4): 40% chance of turning into a cute white fluffy bunny for 20s when running (Cooldown: 60s) , chance for people to make “awww!” sound when passing by. 100% chance on inflicting nearby players the Cuteness Overload status, affected players have 1% chance of instant death upon Cuteness Overload

Fixed that for you
Firstly, there is zero obligation to help other players in-game. You’re going to find players who are very friendly, and those who do not want to help for some reason, and those who are jerks. While it is unfortunate that you have bad experiences do not let these experiences ruin your enjoyment for the game. While I can understand your idea on incentive to help others, I do not think it is a good idea. The whole point of this game is to have fun, and should there be a rewards system for helping others, I feel that many players are “forced”/obligated to do so in order to get rewards. You do not want to meet players who are helping you just because they want their shinies, and the real motive for being helpful to other players would be lost.
Indigo and Vayne has provided good ideas if you are keen on dungeon runs. If there are no parties in LFG, I would start one party which is something like “Path 3, new player need help” and the chances of getting friendlier players is higher. I would avoid joining parties like “exp run, lvl80” because the motive is to complete the dungeon as quick as possible. If you joined one of those parties with no knowledge of the dungeon do not be surprised that you will get kicked out immediately. Join a party which does not have any specific requirements, or better if you started one yourself.
Good luck

8/10 Sounds nice..
I’ve been having so much trouble creating Sylvari cause its so difficult to get only first names which are lore-ish.
So I ended up having to create Sylvaris which have a first and last name.
Sylvari male Thief – Eden Florence
Alright, here we go.
-I confess that I was laughing at some of the confessions here until I saw a serious post (who didn’t get the idea of the topic) and I thought: Mate, have a break, have a Kit Kat.
- I love to help newbies, but I go to newbie areas just to stalk newbies, by adding all the peeps I see and check their AP, until I find one. Then I will put in 101% effort in making this newbie talk and I would follow him/her around. I will send a “survival package” which consist of food, gold, a weapon, a coat, water, and herbs. Most of the newbies whom I’ve helped and in contact tell others about their first experience in GW2 where a shady looking human stalked and helped them since their arrival.
- I am a hoarder of everything. Weapons, crafting ingredients, food…
- Male Sylvaris are hot. I do like Trahearne (everyone gonna hate me for it xD)
- 2 years playing GW2 and no Legendary and no Ascended and no shiny weapons that is almost like a mini Legendary. I’ve gambled so much and I still haven’t got a precursor!
- I love to go to Rata Sum just to jump down/out, hoping that I get a glimpse on how the city looks like outside/bottom.
- I made a few enemy servers angry in WvW by draining supplies at all of the camps just when they are about to cap it.
- I have never finished the PS, and now regretting not finishing it because of the changes to the personal story.
- I only use an Ele in dungeons. Ask me to use my Guard and I’ll be first to die.
- Everytime I see a short, cute looking Asura I just want to scoop them up and put them in my bag and take them home
- I do JP ports with the tallest, female norn without using any tonics. I must be good.
- I hate mesmers and thiefs in WvW. I run away when I see one, even in a zerg. o.O
- As much as EoTM gives better xp/loot/karma, I refuse and have never ever been EoTM. Why EoTM when you can WvW (which is the REAL war) and fight for your server!
(edited by thepinkthingy.5921)
Yes, there’s a scepter version for this skin called Combustion. I have it on my Guardian. IT’S HUGE.
I’ve recently been crafting and when I access my crafting materials via bank I noticed a tiny little problem…
Not all of the materials are showing the individual information.
I’m not talking about Firefox clusters or halloween items which have NO information on them.
I’m talking about all common materials you can gain in-game, from T6 mats, carrots, bronze ignot, vial of powerful blood etc.
When you hover your cursor over a material, you should be able to see the following:
- Value
- If it’s refined from another material (ex: copper ore and tin)
- which crafting discipline you can use the material with, and relevant crafting level when applicable
Now not all of them have this information.
Just go your bank and access your materials. Hover your cursor over every single one of them and there are quite a few which are missing information.
Thank you
Just want to give a shout out to CORE. I’m not a member but a few CORE members helped me while in WvW. Also followed some CORE commanders and it was great thumbs up
Royalpredator, I have previously posted a request hope you’ll look into it (check previous posts)
I eagerly await on your response
Thanks

I will be upgrading one of my toon’s gear so I would like inspiration on how he would look like
- Male sylvari elementalist
- I would like dark coloured dyes (My favourites are Midnight Ice, Abyss, Black Cherry)
- I really LOVE the masquerade gear so if you can think of any armour pieces which have similiar style to the masquerade gear it would be great!
- No legendary and ascended weapon/armour please, I can’t afford them ;O
- No special dyes (The super cool ones that you could get from the gem store)
- I use staff and scepter/dagger so if you could think of weapons that could go well
- Desert Rose or Fervid Censer as the backpiece.
Here’s my current look for my ele.
I can’t wait to get some inspiration, thank you very much!
1. You can always take camps/towers, cutting off supply from enemies, keeping eyes on the enemy, defending your keep via siege etc. These are very essential tasks in WvW which does not involve PvP what-so-ever (until the enemy finds out).
2. I’m not in a T1/T2 server, and my server does not have the numbers as big as they do. In many cases, my server is usually outnumbered by other servers that we face but many times we have taken zergs out that are bigger. It’s not just a numbers game but coordination and knowing your profession well too (Plus an excellent commander and followers)
3. Flipping camps does IMPACTS your server (Cuts off supplies from enemies, and moar supplies for you!) . Killing off yaks IMPACTS your server (Preventing enemies from uprgading their keep) . Building SIEGE at your keep IMPACTS your server (taking out 5 enemies with one AC hohoho). Keeping eyes on the enemy zerg and watching where they go IMPACTS your server (Watching enemy movements).
4. We were all once newbies.
That being said, I personally like WvW for the following reasons:
1. You get to know other players well. It’s all about knowing others and working together. Some of the people I met in WvW are also my dungeon regulars/guildies/friends.
2. More challenging in that we are VSing people instead of AIs. The NPCS in WvW are also more challenging than in PvE. You’ll learn the importance of dodging, CDs and knowing your profession well.
3. WvW isn’t all about attack, attack and attack. Play defence and you can still get loot. A lot.
4. Sense of achievement and victory when your server has taken out a zerg/capture a keep.
Most importantly, it’s all about the community that keeps me going into WvW.
I recently got kicked out from GW2 (and back into the character selection screen). The message was that apparently “someone” else tried to login into the client so that why I got kicked out. Then I login to the forums and checked for security, then saw the IP TX, US (64.25.32.69). I did not receive any email authentication for this IP, getting a heart attack!
Only a WvW player would squeal in excitement when he/she picked up a yellow drop.
Only a WvW player may have used to get excited over being [Outnumbered], as armor repairs weren’t free then.
What a great thread! Lots of good advice here
1. Join a guild. There’s nothing better than joining a guild where you meet with players from around the world. Enjoy your guild bonuses and get challenged in guild missions. Most of all, HAVE FUN
2. I’ve noticed many new players (and experienced ones) ressing a downed during a battle. While this is good, but ressing another player is not a good idea in poor timing, including:
- You are outnumbered by the enemy.
- You have low health at the time but your heal skills are still on cooldown
- Do you have any conditions on you? Bleeding, confusion, torment causes you to lose health. How many stacks are they? How long is the duration?
I’m not saying that you should ignore the downed, but timing make a huge difference between a successful event or a big fail (such as a dungeon wipe).
3. Utility skills such as the warrior’s Battle Standard and the guardian’s Signet Of Mercy resses DOWNED allies, not DEFEATED. These skills also are able to ress NPCs that you are able to ress normally via F. This is super helpful in group events, dungeons, and WvW (where it is difficult to ress the downed, ressing the Lord in your keep after it dies!).
4. Always gather from nodes, even if it’s a t1 materials. Yes, it might not sell much, and it is annoying to steer out of the way to collect 3 copper ores. However, they do sell on the Trading Post. I had sold 3 stacks of copper ore for 90c EACH (Total 6Gold 75 silver) on the trading post (when it was trading well). Money
5. If you want to purchase items in-game (not the gem store), always check the trading post to see if buying from an NPC or via trading post is cheaper.
6. You can still call target (Ctrl+T) even if you’re not in a party.
7. The crafting stations/personal bank/trader can be found in your Borderlands. Sometimes its just easier to go into WvW (which costs nothing!) instead of waypointing (costs more money) to the cities…
8. If you’re in need of killing the poor bunnies/chickens/flys for the daily “Ambient Killer”, press left+CTRL to see any ambient creatures in your area.
9. You can set nicknames in your friends/followers list.
10. If you want a screenshot without yourself in the picture, type /sleep, press CTRL+Shift+H, adjust the angles, and screenshot away!
Only a WvW player would know of every combo field and finishers and know when to use them.
Only a WvW player is the true master of cliff jumping.
Only a WvW player know how OP supply traps are.
Only a WvW player understands the language of WvW.
“N Garri outer down, (servername) inner N side, GATE 30! 1.26 timer, on ACs! GET ON ME, BLAST it, push them! STAY ON TAG! Gj, sweep repair. Food check, heading SE tower. OIL, CANNON… build build, PvD!….. WAAAATER!!!” ;

My wishlist:
- CAPES CAPES CAPES. A pink cape.
- Minis that actually DO something instead of just following around. Even talking or a bit more animations (Ex: Plush Griffon, Princess Doll) is good in my standard. I don’t think anyone is going to like it, but I really want a mini Trahearne who would be quoting his famous quotes when I enter/leave combat. I would seriously pay GEMS for this. I like Trahearne. And a mini Logan that would run away from you when you enter combat _
- More dances in the How To Dance volume 2??
- Oversized weapon skins. I wonder how my asura would look like with a giant weapon bigger than him? The chaarzooka isnt big enough me thinks.
- Some customization we can do at our home terrace aka HQ. It’s our home place, so why can’t we put furniture in?? Or even let our minis run around… or use my master chef skills and host a picnic with your friends?
- Option to have past gemstore items to be back on sale. Thank you for the month of March, I shall shop till I am broke!
- Option to enter combat using our town clothes.
- Some town clothes can be converted into pve, like earmuffs.
- [Endless Champagne Bottle] or [Endless Coffee Mug] please. I need to keep awake.
- [Endless Shrinking Tonic] just for jumping puzzles.
- More back item skins?
As some have already said, flipping TP is one of the best ways to get gold and it can be quite unpredictable and frustrating . Selling mats and bags are the safest and will generally earn you quite a bit of money. Also salvaging items does give decent money on the TP. In a low level area, I would not neglect gathering T1 mats because they will still sell, even if it’s not much. A stack of 250 green wood logs that I have gathered from using a low lvl alt had given me around 82s (good timing).
I also sell my rares, exotics, and items from LA which can cost a lot depending on timing. You could buy a Wind Catcher Skin around 15G during the Bazzar of the Winds patch. I decided not to sell mine during this time. Look at how much it costs on the TP now!
I used to wonder what I should spend karma on, until I went to WvW. You can never have too much karma in upgrading your keeps
I’ve been getting a few game issues and it is very annoying.
- Guild window, Friends/LFG window doesn’t load properly. Usually if they don’t load after a while, this message appears. (The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time. This is most commonly caused by a firewall or router settings, security applications, or connecting through a campus network. For additional support, please visit http://support.guildwars2.com.) I think it might be a server issue as at times these windows load properly, and sometimes they don’t! :O
- Party/Guild/Whisper chats don’t work at times either! I can play and in combat without ANY lag but can’t chat? Typed messages and pressed “enter” while I’m in a dungeon and nothing comes up. I can’t even see what other party members are saying either, until when party decides to work a whole lot of messages appear asking if I was okay or not. Strangely enough party/guild/whisper chat WORKS in LA, but when I’m not in LA, it fumbles up… a lot.
- LFG Window: Two times I have joined in a full party (With person A, B C, and D) for Caudecus Manor, then just before we are about to go in, my party members suddenly changes into person E, F, G and H for Honour of the Waves?? Plus I’m in Queensdale and I get a window saying if I want to join E,F,G and H in hotw?? I know it only happened twice but it’s just bizzare.
- Trading Post: I think a few people having similar issues. I can’t sell. When I want to sell item A (right click + sell on trading post), the TP window loads but it hangs for a second or two, then it goes into the window for “sell on trading post”. List of my items pops up. I click on the item that I want to sell, screen loads for item A, can’t click on anything. So I turn off the TP window and try again. Doesn’t work.
I’ve checked my internet, disabled firewall, etc etc and it seems its working. I have been using the same internet since I started GW2 and never had these issues, until Scarlet decides to unleash the full assault (aka Escape from Lion’s Arach). Now that the nightmare is somewhat over, would appreciate if these issues can be addressed and fixed ASAP.
Thank you very much
I’m getting the same issue, plus selling stuff is getting bugged at time. Sometimes I can’t sell, sometimes I can. >.>
Since the new update, my guild window along with the LFG tool and my Friends window won’t load at all. I can sign in and play as normal, but the message keeps on popping up on the window saying
“The game client is unable to gain access to the log-in server at this time. This is most commonly caused by a firewall or router settings, security applications, or connecting through a campus network. For additional support, please visit http://support.guildwars2.com.”
I’ve restarted the client, disabled my firewall and it still didn’t fix it. I am using the same internet connection since day one and this is happening for the first time. Could it be on the server’s issue? I’ve noticed as the guild window does load parts of it (like list of guild members etc.) but then it eventually goes poof and back to blank screen. The above message keeps popping up again.
I’m hoping the cause of the issue is on my side, cause if it is then I don’t know how to fix it. Never had this problem before until now!
Appreciate any help thank you!
Thank you for the tips! I’m helping someone establish a guild (I’m not a leader) and we are struggling to recruit people (and getting them to communicate in guild chat. Many of them are quiet unless you try to talk to them, or take them out for an event). It will definitely take a while for a guild to get established. All guilds (even the big ones) went through this too.
Good luck to all the guilds out there!
I agree to the OP to a certain degree. The bad apples are more obvious to spot now, especially on the LFG tool, champ trains, and … even in WvW. I also find that the living story is also susceptible to more bad apples too (Especially many are aiming for achievements!)
Now it’s much more difficult for me to run dungeons and that I’m not familiar with as many are speed runs/zerker only. Not that it’s bad, but how are the new people able to learn? I admit that I run certain dungeons for the rewards, but I usually stay until the end to help a first timer out.
In saying this, the GW2 community is still nice but hoping that things might change so that we have a friendly, nice community.
Gamemaster, too true.
I’m a frequent “guest” to TC just for the RP (and friends). It is wow.
Hi Blaze, welcome to Tyria Go to the starting areas such as Queensdale, Lion’s Arch and the towns and you might find that guilds would advertise that they are recruiting. Queensdale is also home to the (Queensdale boss train) so join them and you’ll level pretty quick. You can join up to 5 guilds! As a starting player, joining a guild is one of the best ways to meet people, get help, and makes your gaming experience MUCH more fun!
The links below is very useful for all new and experienced players!

Leveling is relatively quite easy. Basically doing almost anything will give you exp. Crafting, map exploration (such as point of interest, waypoints, vistas) reviving downed allies, gathering, doing heart quests, dynamic events, achievements (such as dailys), world vs world, jumping puzzles….
Hope you will find a good guild and meet nice people. Blackgate is a very populated server so you’ll find lots of people there.
1. You should definitely let the party know that you are new to the dungeon. Most players are willing to guide you through. It isn’t fun when 1/5 of the party goes down, especially at the crucial time. The last thing any party wants is that everyone dies multiple times, people started getting frustrated, and then they realise that one of their members has no idea what he/she is doing.
2. Zerker is usually the best PvE build, but a support/tank build can be useful. My guardian is a support/tank build but so far I haven’t been kicked out because of this build. You will still have to do damage, but the enemy won’t go down as fast.
3. Depends on the dungeon that you’re doing. With experience, you’ll find that you know how each dungeon path runs and it will take quicker to finish. As Little Lepton mentioned, it also depends on the group you’re with, the individual builds, and the experience. So far, I take around 15 minutes on AC paths with a group of experienced zerkers (high DPS), and around 40-60 minutes with a group of first timers (but we do have lots of fun!).
4. With the LFG tool, it is much easier to find a party to go for dungeon runs. Do keep in mind on the party description. If you have no experience in a dungeon, it’s not a good idea to join a party with the description “p3 experienced only” or “p2 need zerkers”. These parties want a specific build, and they want to run the dungeon quick so they need experienced players.
If you decide to create a party, write something like “p1 all welcome” or “p2 first time need help”. I’ve done this with dungeons that I am not familiar with. You’ll generally find that both non-experienced and experienced players will join and most are happy to guide you, as you have indicated very early being a first timer. I also find that joining these kinds of parties with similar descriptions like these are generally more chatty. I just did a story mode with a group of first timers and they couldn’t stop chatting with me, even after it ended! xD
Enjoy dunegon-ing!
Trahearne. LOL. Really. I do like him. Of course, that’s my opinion.
And I really love Tybalt (sob) and ShashoooooOoooo, Dinky and now the Ho-Ho-Tron?
When my female asura does a combo, she says “Combine and KA-POW!” It would made more sense if she was a elementalist instead of a warrior though…
And… “the sports of battle?” and “sweet, sweet moot!”
- When I walk past the supermarket and see a new type of ingredient and say: “Hey! I know this! The fresh ones should look undamaged and bright colors. Of course I know this… I made 2 stacks of them last night!”
- When I find that rock climbing is easy for once, when I compared to spending 2 hours on THAT jumping puzzle.
- When you start using phrases in real life, such as “I can outrun a centaur” or “That’s valuable.”
- When you are angry and profanity changes to “I’M GONNA FOO UP YOUR DAY!”
- When you get super excited when you find that yummy slice of [Slice of Garlic Bread] in Ascolanian Catacombs as if it is the best thing that has even happened to you. To be honest, I don’t even like garlic bread but always so excited for this one?
(edited by thepinkthingy.5921)
“More violence I say, less violets”
“A splendid computation!”
“I am six feet tall”
“EMERGAD!” (Armored up)
“Fight makes me right”
“On demand” (On the mend)
“Feel the fires of Bulbasaur!”
In no particular order….
1. Revamp the personal story. Make it more “personal”. Introduction to the LORE of GW2 (which is awesome). Cut scenes… meh. Its OK. The human storyline is especially too “good” to be true. Whatever happened to the real struggles and challenges that the main character faces on the road to becoming the Pact commander? Make Zhaitan battle the best of all(Cause its nothing compared to Taco Bell). What about the option to replay the SO EPIC battle with the Eye? Where are the other Elder Dragons at? Isn’t there more to the personal story rather than (fighting fighting fighting)? What about undertaking a research task as a member of the Durmand Priory? WHO IN THE WORLD IS TRAHEARNE?? (Unless you are Sylvari you should know this :P)
2. More variety of armor/weapon skins. I’m quite happy with the variety we have now, but………. we need more. I’m glad there are new skins coming out from the gem store (Love the Kasmeer’s staff!), now we need more obtainable via non-gem-store.
3. Crafting. It feels like button mashing to be honest. Doesnt look interesting visually. If its possible to see your toon baking saffron bread that makes a huge difference for me, lol.
4. Living story. One month per living story update. More time to gain achievements, more time to work on the next one. Well, if there isn’t a living story every month I’m still happy one update every two months! Recycling past living story? No worries!
5. Commander tags. One tag for Guild purposes (ie: guild missions, guild runs in wvw), one tag for PVE purposes, and one tag for wvw. Could be different colours! (Three types of Taco? Yes please!)
6. The home instance. Can we please have our own “home” where we can decorate our home, add furniture, craft… and invite our friends for a party? PLEAAASEE
7. Better opportunities to contact Devs in game, instead of just sending support ticket. This is especially so when there are in game disputes and issues that go on…………
So sad, I can’t purchase the wintersday outfits from last year.. SOB!
Welcome to Tyria! From my experience, GW2 generally has a friendly community so no matter which server you choose, you’ll find friendly people who are willing to help.
I’m from another server, but TC is a good choice. I have friends who call their server home and they love the community there. They are very active in WvW being a higher tier server, so if you are looking into WvW, be prepared for a long, long queue time wait.
TC is also the unofficial RP server and I love guesting to TC just to watch the action.. and RP too! You’ll either love it or hate it, but I actually like it :P
If you want something that you really like (Ie: Legendaries), you got to work for it. Personally, I don’t think any game forces you to “grind”, but if you want to be the best and acquire the best, well… you have to work. I took my time to level, avoided crafting until I managed to get most of the mats (cough cough still not lvl400 yet), and relied on getting my gear from drops. It is much easier to earn gold now and easier to get yellow (rare) gear just by killing a few champs/world boss. Most of my characters’ gear are greens or yellows. To be honest, rares or exotics are good enough to survive, unless you like the skin for ascended/legendary or doing high level factals. The difference of stats between ascended and exotics are not much. I’m taking my time to get my exotics for my toons (via loot). Only 3 so far in the whole game! Eeeeek! Who said it was easy to get? :P
I like the personal story. I doubt that there will be a continuation, but I would like to see the whole storyline revamped instead of a sequel.
THE princess doll. *Screams frantically *
I agree that mesmers have a steeper learning curve. I have a mesmer and still getting the hang of it even after it’s lvl 50… haha.
Good luck in Tyria!
I feel your pain. My account was recently hacked too and I did lose a portion of my gold and items. Did you enable email/mobile authentication? That does help a bit in preventing other people from logging in. Like Inculpatus said, scan your computer and change your passwords and email. Check your IP list regularly and report once you find any suspicious ones.
